Xenoblade Chronicles game developer Monolith Soft is currently hiring staff for a new RPG led by Tetsuya Takahashi. At the time of writing there are no details about the new title the developers are creating.

Monolith Soft is interested in hiring all kinds of staff, but are looking in eight specific categories. To be specific, it noted it needs 2D designers and artwork staff, 3DCG designers for character models, 3DCG designers for map environments, development environment engineer, field level designer, assistant director, in-game animator, and effect designers. Additionally, the developer is looking for people of all skill levels, from asset development to lead positions.

Director Tetsuya Takahashi described the new game as "a new challenge compared to previous Monolith Soft games." Takahashi also said that, up to this point, the company has been operating with a relatively small number of people when comparing to the large scale of the games produced by the developers. While the developers are proud of this, Takahashi also said that they can’t say this is the case anymore, considering the current situation within the games industry.

Monolith Soft is a development studio currently owned by Nintendo, and it is the creator of the recent Xenoblade Chronicles series, as well as the Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos series. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the company’s latest title and it is available for the Nintendo Switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Attackers, Defenders, and Healers Videos Appear

In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, every one of the six main party fills a certain role. Nintendo’s earlier announcements went over that. Now, people can better visualize what that means. That’s because Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Attacker, Defender, and Healer videos are available. Each one shows how one specific character would behave in a fight.

The first Xenoblade Chronicles 3 video focuses on Noah acting as an Attacker. He’s constantly focused on dealing damage to the opponent in the teaser. It also shows the backstabbing sorts of attacks someone could do when a foe is distracted by allies.

Next is a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Defender video starring Lanz. After he attacks the enemy and deals damage, it shows how the foe will stop targeting someone like Noah and go after him instead.

Finally, there’s a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Healer video that actually doesn’t show Eunie healing. Instead, it focuses on something else the er can do. While she’s attacking an opponent with other allies, it appears she uses her Myopic Screen attack, which then leaves a toppled enemy dazed.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will come to the Nintendo Switch on July 29, 2022.

xenoblade chronicles future connected

There’s some good news for people who have been considering picking up the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, but were worried about how long it might take to get to some of the new content. Nintendo made an announcement on Twitter that might take a weight off of people’s shoulders. The Xenoblade Chronicles Future Connected epilogue, which is an entirely new post-game adventure with a strong focus on Shulk and Melia going on a new journey, can be played right away.

Nintendo clarified how the Xenoblade Chronicles Future Connected episode will work in the reveal. It noted that someone could begin the game and go directly to this new epilogue in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. No cleared save data is required. There will be an option open right away.

As a reminder, the official trailer for the Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition offered a hint at what’s to come. Shulk and Melia are together. He mentions a capital may be on one of the titan’s shoulders and wondered if that’s a place she’d want to visit. However, there are hints that a trip to such a place might not be entirely safe. Melia even remarks that they're "very much in the dark." Shulk then remarks that it's fortunate he's prepared while the camera looks at the Monado on his back.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will come to the Nintendo Switch on May 29, 2020. North America’s special edition includes a massive art book, while the European one includes the art book, a soundtrack, and other goodies.

xenoblade chronicles definitive edition collectors set europe

While Nintendo Direct presentations tend to have many of the same beats, each region’s can have some of its own, exclusive announcements. For example, the Japanese March 2020 Nintendo Direct Mini included a Shiren the Wanderer Switch port reveal. Likewise, the one for Europe revealed a different Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition collector’s edition. In that region, there’s a larger Collector’s Set than the one being offered in North America.

The Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Collector’s Set announcement ended up making that portion of the Nintendo Direct Mini longer in Europe. It began by looking at the Steelbook case that has the Bionis and Mechonis on it. A Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Sound Selection vinyl record gives people a means of listening to the game’s soundtrack, though there’s also a card with music code for people as well. A poster and the 256-page Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Works art book are also in the box.

You can see the special edition starting at the four minute mark in the European Nintendo Direct Mini.

As a reminder, the North American version only comes with a copy of the game and the art book.

The four Xenoblade Chronicles X DLC characters, which will be free in the North American and European releases of the game, offer extra options in battle.

<![CDATA[

Earlier this week, Nintendo confirmed that the western releases of Xenoblade Chronicles X would be receiving the four DLC characters of Axana, Boze, HB, and Yelve for free. In Japan, the packs for each one were ¥500, and beating their missions made them a potential party member for Cross, bringing the total number of playable characters up to 19.

To help people prepare for their inclusion in Xenoblade Chronicles X and why it’s a good thing that they’ll be here for free, let’s go over what exactly they offer. (Without spoilers, of course.)

Axana, Boze, HB, and Yelve aren’t just one-shot characters. All four of them actually appear in Xenoblade Chronicles X even if their DLC isn’t applied. The add-on allows a player access to their more unique storylines, also allowing them to be added to the crew. Think of them as NPCs who you suddenly get the opportunity to know a little better and recruit.

Beyond that, the four are additional options for people who might need a character of a specific class, but prefer ones with different skill sets than the people already in the party. For this next part, the classes and skills referred to may differ in the final release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, especially since Axana and Yelve were originally known as Aksena and Ierv in the Japanese release.

xenoblade chronicles x axana

Axana, for example, is a Partizan Eagle class character. This means she uses weapons that tend to offer the ability to attack from a distance, like lances and sniper rifles. Over Specs and Voltage Max are her Arts abilities. If someone doesn’t feel like using Lao, another Partizan Eagle with Afterburner and Round Break, she’s an option. Actually, Boze is another alternate option for her even, since he’s an Astral Crusader with Bayonet and Vortex skills, an advanced version of the Partizan Eagle class.

xenoblade chronicles x hb

HB, like Boze, is another Xenoblade Chronicles X character that arrives with an advanced final class. He’s a Heavy Striker, something characters like Lin Lee and L can eventually be. His Arts are Atomic Bash and Frame Hand. You could think of him as a tank that works well up close, since he uses shields and gatling guns.

xenoblade chronicles x yelve

Finally, there’s Yelve. Yelve is one of two possible Blast Fencers in the game. (Three, if a player decides to go that route with Cross.) If you don’t like Doug’s Exceed Slash and Starlight Beat Arts, then maybe Yelve’s Powered Gunner and Spirit Change will work differently. He uses the Delta Pleasure multigun, but as a Blast Fencer can also use Photon Sabers and any Psycho Launchers. You could probably consider him as close to a standard swordsman as a Xenoblade Chronicles X character can get.

Players will also be getting the Policemen, Yumbo, and Excavator Skells with the included Xenoblade Chronicles X DLC, for HB, Boze, and Axana, with Yelve getting the aforementioned Delta Pleasure weapon as his extra bonus.

Namely, that KOS-MOS, star of the Xenosaga series, will be appearing in the game. And not just KOS-MOS, but Reiji and Xiaomu, the protagonists of Namco X Capcom, as well. It'll be interesting to see if this game fits into the canon of either Xenosaga or Namco X Capcom. Also, one has to wonder if any characters from other series will show up in the game. KOS-MOS, Reiji, and Xiaomu make great additions to the cast, but what other crossover characters would you readers out there like to see in the game?

chaos1.jpgNintendo now has an RPG powerhouse under their wing. Well, that would depend on whether or not you consider Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos to be two very diverse RPGs that Monolith Soft ever developed and conceived. All things considered of course, I personally found Baten Kaitos to be a breath of fresh air in of originality in turn-based gameplay. After all, what was the last RPG you could that used cards as your primary method of attacking, defending, and using an item? What? Chain of Memories? That works, too.

Platformers reports that Nikkei has issued a press release confirming Nintendo's purchase of developer Monolith Soft with Nintendo keeping 80% of stocks in Monolith Soft while Namco-Bandai maintains 16% of stocks. The reason behind the purchase isn't really known; but considering the success Monolith Soft has had among its fans, this could mean that both the Wii and DS will finally get the RPG that's really needed...at least for the Wii since the DS is a handheld RPG powerhouse as it is. Could this mean that finally Baten Kaitos DS, assuming Nintendo owns the rights to the BK franchise, can finally come to be? If Namco-Bandai has also given Nintendo the rights to Xenosaga, does this mean there could be a new Xenosaga on the Wii or DS? Even further, could there just be a new Xeno series in general?

Errr let's not jump to conclusions about this! What do you make of this news? Think it'll be good for Nintendo? Think it'll be bad?

Think we should wait until see some progress to determine whether Monolith Soft was a wise purchase?

When Nintendo showcased a reel of Wii games, Disaster: Day of Crisis stood out. The thirty second clip has a giant tidal wave crashing down on a city, an erupting volcano and concept art of the unnamed hero. It was different from the cheery Nintendo characters in Mario Party and the concept was solid even if Irem has been using it in their Zettaizetsumei Toshi series. Jeux posted up a screenshot of the game in play and it is far from impressive. Monolith Soft, known for the cinematic Xenogears and deep Baten Kaitos series, is developing the game and their other titles are pure eye candy. Disaster: Day of Crisis… not so much. On the plus side Disaster: Day of Crisis is still in development and this early screenshot might not be a representation of the final game. The real question is how is Nintendo going to recreate “surviving nature”? Some of the gameplay scenarios in Disaster: Day of Crisis include driving down a mountain, dodging buildings while in the middle of an Earthquake and swimming to save their lives from a flood.

Forever Blue is another interesting Wii game developed by Arika who made the underwater Everblue games and Street Fighter EX. Forever Blue is related to the Everblue series, but the screenshot is missing the HUD in Everblue 2 which had information on how much air the player had and a gauge to show how deep in the ocean you traveled.

Are these graphics considered “acceptable”? And if they aren’t are you willing to forsake eye candy for gameplay?

The team behind Baten Kaitos and the Xenosaga series is opening the gates to hire a bunch of new team . New positions opened for production assistant, programmer, planner, 3D CG designer, 2D designer, effect designer, motion designer, motion capturing engineer, and production manager. They also have new corporate jobs up such as business staff and systems staff to take care of the new workers. Right now the only game Monolith is working on is Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Wii. It’s possible that these additional staff could be working on the Wii’s action title or maybe Monolith Soft has another surprise project in the works for 2007.

Monolith’s card battling RPG Baten Kaitos wasn’t a smash success like Tales of Symphonia in North America. That didn’t stop Monolith from producing a sequel to the game, which was released in Japan in February ’06. With no concrete details about the sequel’s US release it looked like the franchise was going to fade away. Maybe not because Nintendo announced that they will publish a prequel to the Baten Kaitos series called Baten Kaitos Origins for the Gamecube. The game is currently in development by Monolith and is set for a release on September 25th in North America. Baten Kaitos Origins is set 20 years before the first game. The story begins with Sagi, the blue haired hero sent to assassinate Emperor Geldoblame. When he arrives at the scene, Geldoblame is already dead and Sagi goes on the lam with Milly and a robot named Guillo. The story of Origins will explain the back history of the Baten Kaitos universe and explain where the heroes in Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean come from. Baten Kaitos Origins is still a card RPG and has over 600 magnus cards that players can use in combat. We’ve got more screenshots of Baten Kaitos Origins below.

It has been quiet on the Gamecube front after Namco announced a sequel to Baten Kaitos. We now have a date for it, February 23, 2006 and a new subtitle Hajimari no Tsubasa to Kamigami no Shishi. At this time a US release is unconfirmed, but we wouldn't rule out a translation yet.

If you haven’t played the first game there is a quick summary of some of the main events in the first game from Shion’s perspective, but it is highly recommended that you play through the first game before playing the second.
