The official Hallmark Dream Book 2025 page debuted online ahead of the product pages going live on April 25, 2025, and the video game section includes an Xbox 360, Halo 3, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Mario items like a Super Star Tree Topper. There are also some Halloween items, such as a $19.99 Pikachu in a pumpkin that will debut in July 2025. The Ornament Premiere will be held July 12-20, 2025, with Keepsake Ornament Club getting to shop on July 11, 2025. The Ornament Debut will be held on October 10-19, 2025, with club getting to buy on October 10, 2025.

Some of the first video game ornaments in the 2025 Hallmark Dream Book involve Pokemon and Minecraft ones on pages 36 and 37. These are the smaller size decorations. One is a set that includes a holiday-themed Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle for $27.99. That debuts in October 2025. The Poke Ball set of six designs launches in July 2025 for $16.99 and is of a similar size. (That also appeared in 2024.) A small holiday Rowlet with gift is $9.99 and out in July 2025 too. The $9.99 mini Goomba is a July 2025 release. Finally, the Minecraft Alex, Arctic Fox, and Steve set launches in July 2025 for $19.99.

The bulk of the video game ornaments in the Hallmark Dream Book 2025 catalog come up on pages 66 and 67. One of the biggest ones is a new console in the ongoing collection with lights and sounds from Halo 3. That launches in July 2025 for $22.99. The matching Halo 3 ornament with the box art and Master Chief debuts in October 2025 for $19.99. The Super Star Tree Topper is also one of the larger items, with lights and Super Mario Bros music. It costs $74.99 and debuts in July 2025.

A Minecraft map has been featured in the 2025 edition of a Japanese mathematics textbook. The map in question is called Traditional Japanese House (or Machiya Kunpudo in Japanese). It was created by Team-KYO and is available in the Minecraft Marketplace. As such, it can be found in practically every version of the game for players to explore.

As the name indicates, the map is a reproduction of a Japanese-style machiya wooden townhouse like the ones found in Kyoto, Japan. The map has been praised for its capacity to clearly depict lines and planes in space through its use of tatami mats, pillars, and paper sliding doors within the Japanese-style rooms that appear in it.

The Minecraft map was used in the opening page for Chapter 6 Spacial Figures of the Japanese junior high school textbook “Mirai e Hirogaru Math 1,” published by Keirinkan. The publishing house believes that incorporating Minecraft into the educational setting of a classroom textbook will help students become more familiar with the material they are studying. Even more so when considering how popular the video game is amongst elementary and junior high school students.

The popular sandbox video game has been used in Japan to engage with a younger audience in the past, with a Minecraft book teaching children how to clean up being released by Kadokawa back in March 12, 2025.

Minecraft is readily available for Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

Warner Bros Japan revealed the list of voice actors for the Japanese dub of A Minecraft Movie, which will appear in the country's theaters on April 25, 2025. The cast list features not only veteran voice actors and renowned live actors but also famous YouTubers and Vtubers who are active in the Japanese Minecraft community.

The cast for the main characters will mostly feature professional voice actors, such as Hiroki Yasumoto as Garrett, Koichi Yamadera as Steve, Ayumu Murase as Henry, and Kimiko Saito as Dawn. As for Natalie's dub voiceover, however, Warner Bros opts to employ the live actress and model Meru "Meruru" Nukumi.

The Japanese dub cast notably features celebrities, YouTubers, and Vtubers who are also known as Minecraft fans. The multi-talent celebrity Eiko Kano will provide the dub for Chungus, and the YouTubers HIKAKIN and SEIKIN will voice Nitwit and the Waiter, respectively.

In the announcement post, Warner Bros added that it specifically picked Vtubers from Dozle Corp, Nichijogumi, and Colorful Peach. These groups frequently publish Minecraft streams on their channels, which have each sured 2 million subscribers.

Viz Media picking up Kazuyoshi Seto’s Minecraft: The Manga is interesting! In many situations, manga adaptations of games can offer different vibes or approaches to stories. They may even offer a chance to spend more time with certain subjects. However, the design direction and narrative decisions mean that this feels like a shonen series with a bit of Minecraft flavor, rather than a tale that could only be told in the game’s universe.

Rather than following Steve or Alex, Minecraft: The Manga goes with an original character and standard sort of shonen storyline. Nico White is a crafter who wants to become an adventurer like his father. Everyone in the White family has a mark on their hands signifying their Mod power. This allows them to make things nobody else can, all without a crafting table. When heading to the mines to work for the first time when ten, zombies appear and overwhelm his group. The power to mod shines through, he crafts a much needed sword. He saves the day! However, that awakened ability means he can’t stay home any longer, so he sets out on an adventure to reach the end of the world.

Here’s the thing. While there are references to certain uniqueenemies and gameplay elements, such as Creepers, crafting, and mining, Minecraft: The Manga generally feels like any typical shonen manga geared toward kids. The age range is right, with Nico heading out at about the same age as kids would in the Pokemon series. There are gag elements, like with the Animal Crossing adaptation. A lot of it is more about reaching the end of the world, which isn’t uncommon in these types of adventure stories. The allies, such as Gray the human with a mod curse mark that makes him look like a zombie and Yamabuki the failed ninja journeying to redeem himself. If it wasn’t for the aesthetic, it wouldn’t necessarily feel very “Minecraft.”

This isn’t to say an effort isn’t made by Seto to bring in those elements from the game. Nico uses equipment like pickaxes and swords. Blocks come up quite a bit. We see references to the hearts used to track HP in a dire situation, and a sense of starvation kicks off the second chapter. All of the enemies are also pulled from the game, as are animals and terrain types.

However, the idea of maintaining the themes also isn’t tried and true. The character designs are a good example. Everyone’s head is shaped like a cube in Minecraft: The Manga, just as in the game. However, their bodies look… pretty normal and not angular. Also, facial features end up veering into more traditional manga expressions and designs, rather than blocky ones from the game. Gray is an exception, but the extremely expressive Nico is a good example of just going with designs that you’d expect in any shonen manga geared toward kids.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that Minecraft: The Manga feels like any young shonen series that just so happens to take place in the world of the game. The adventure ends up sometimes feeling a bit generic as a result. Every once in a while, they’ll be a reference to gameplay or an element pulled from the title. But it doesn’t really shape the story. Instead, it’s just another coming of age tale about a young kid trying to become a hero. For its target audience, this could be all someone needs, but I don’t think it would hold the attention of anyone older or more experienced with similar stories.

Volume 1 of the Minecraft: The Manga is available now, and Viz Media will release volume 2 on June 10, 2025. The original game is available on the New 3DS, Switch, PS3, PS4, PS5, Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.

Kadokawa released a book that aims to use Minecraft to teach children how to clean up after themselves and improve their organization skills. The book, which loosely translates to Level Up With Fun Learning: Minecraft - Cleaning on Your Own, costs 1210 JPY ($8.15), and you can find it in bookstores around Japan. There’s no word regarding a worldwide release yet. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]

The book combines charts and manga, along with familiar Minecraft characters, to make it easier for children to learn how to read about cleaning and organization. There are also some activities to “game-ify” chores and turn it into a game. For example, one of the pages shows a chart that’ll let you know what type of cleaner you are based off your habits and personality. All the “type” names draw from Minecraft, such as the Slime type and the Enderman type. Another one shows a picture of a messy table, with the game asking for kids to find three “bad spots” about the table that they absolutely have to fix.

Edutainment, or educational entertainment, has been around for generations. Aside from video games like Reader Rabbit or The Cluefinders to foster an interest in learning via games, schools and educators have been using games to make school interesting for kids. Back in October 2021, Aeon Fantasy used Pokemon Unite to improve children’s strategic and critical thinking, as well as communication on a team.

Minecraft is available on multiple platforms, including Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

Usada Pekora opened up a Minecraft server for her fans on September 2, 2024 and then revealed that it costs her over a million JPY to maintain. That would equate to around $7026 (likely per month). [Thanks, Inside Games!]

Pekora’s Minecraft server is part of an event she’s organizing where she plays on a server of up to a hundred people. You need a hip in her channel, as well as a Discord , to . People can do whatever they want in the game, such as adventuring or crafting buildings. Pekora held a stream on the night of September 2, 2024 to check it out and saw that in half a day, fans have already built quite a bit.

At the end of that stream, someone asked how much it costs Pekora to maintain it. She didn’t give an exact number, but she hints that it costs her over a million JPY. Then, she said that the price doesn’t matter because she wanted to play games with everyone. She also stated that as long as everyone has fun, she’s not upset about paying that amount of money.

Usada Pekora is a popular VTuber with hololive who debuted as part of its third generation. Fellow VTubers from that generation include Houshou Marine and Shirogane Noel. As of the time of writing, she has over 2.6 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.

Minecraft: The Manga, known in Japan as Minecraft: Sekai no Hate e no Tabi, is going to be released in English via Viz Media. The company announced it on social media and said it will appear in Spring 2025.

Here’s the official reveal. It features a traditional Minecraft protagonist named Nico as he deals with the threats in the world, like zombies, and attempts to flourish and survive. 

This manga actually kicked off quite a while ago. It debuted in CoroCoro Comic back in April 2020. 

The manga is by Kazuyoshi Seto. The mangaka is only responsible for it and one other work so far, Namenna yo! Nameneko Matakichi Saikyou Densetsu. Neither appeared in English until now.

This comes as Minecraft hits its 15th anniversary. A number of sales on the original game and its spin-offs appeared to honor the occasion. Netflix announced an animated series from WildBrain. There’s also an movie based on the property, which is currently in development.

Minecraft: The Manga will launch in English in Spring 2025. The game is available on the New 3DS, PS3, PS4, Switch, Vita, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, and mobile devices. The current anniversary sale on games will run until June 5, 2024.

The Minecraft adaptation and Mortal Kombat 2 movies will reportedly resume filming in 2024. This is thanks to studios and the SAG-AFTRA union reaching a tentative agreement, ending the strikes that halted production for the past three months. [Thanks, Deadline!]

Minecraft and Mortal Kombat 2 are part of a range of movies that are set to resume filming in 2024. Minecraft is an adaptation of Mojang’s beloved crafting game. While plot details are unknown, it will be directed by Jared Hess and star Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows).

Mortal Kombat 2 is the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat reboot of the movie timeline. It will be directed by Simon McQuoid, just like the first movie. While initial reports suggesting filming will resume in 2024, producer Todd Garner confirmed that filming is set to resume before the end of 2023.

The news of these movies resuming production isn’t the only recent adaptation news. Nintendo announced that an adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is the works, with producer Avi Arad working alongside Shigeru Miyamoto.

No release date has been confirmed for either Minecraft or Mortal Kombat 2. Minecraft is on the PS3, PS4, Vita, Switch, 3DS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. Mortal Kombat 1 is on the PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC.

With a newly released DLC pack, Minecraft: Bedrock Edition players can take on the role of Mega Man. The comes with levels, skins, and music from the classic Capcom game. The DLC pack is available now for 1,340 Minecraft coins, which costs around $8.

The Mega Man X DLC pack recreates several levels from the original game series, complete with boss fights. Vile (in his Ride Armor), Chill Penguin, Storm Eagle, Armored Armadillo, and Sting Chameleon are available to fight. After defeating all of them, Sigma will be waiting for a showdown in his four-stage fortress. Nine of Mega Man's weapons are available to use, and gear can also be unlocked and upgraded as players progress through the DLC.

On top of the levels, the Mega Man X DLC for Minecraft also adds 14 new skins to the game. Players can dress themselves up as characters such as Mega Man, Zero, and Dr. Wily. The Mega Man X soundtrack is also available to listen to as part of the pack.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Mega Man X DLC pack is available to now at a price of 1,340 Minecraft coins. A spin-off game, Minecraft Legends, releases on April 18, 2023, for the same systems.

Minecraft-themed pillows and blankets will appear in Japan. Fashion Center Shimamura has announced that it will sell the aforementioned items, which also include hugging pillows of Alex, Steve, and the Zombie from Minecraft. The shop will start selling the items exclusively on its web store on October 22, 2022.

The Minecraft hugging pillows will replicate the characters' appearances in the original game. The pillows will be around 60 cm (~23.6 inches) tall with 22 cm (~8.66 inches) in the other two dimensions. Each item will be available at 2,970 yen (~$20).

Other than hugging pillows, the store will also sell bolsters sized 20 x 90 cm (~7.9 x 35 in) decorated with Minecraft items and creatures for 1,969 yen each. Shimamura will also sell half-sized blankets at 100 x 140 cm (~39 x 55 in) with designs of Polar Bears, Axolotls, the Creeper, and the Ender Dragon for 1,419 yen each.

The globally popular game Minecraft is also well-known in Japan. Children readers of the Japanese manga magazine CoroCoro voted for Minecraft among their top ten liked game series in 2020. Characters from the game also made their way into the DLC lineup of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The latest version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is available on PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 with cross-play . The PlayStation versions also the original PlayStation VR device.

On October 1, 2020, Nintendo announced that Steve from Minecraft would soon be playable in the company’s popular fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game’s director, Masahiro Sakurai, appeared in a video on October 3, 2020 to give a closer look at what fans can expect from this unconventional choice and show off Steve's moveset.

A lot of focus was on Steve’s unique abilities and mechanic. The character’s main attacks, which make use of upgradeable axes, swords, and pickaxes, are short range and can be used repeatedly by holding down the attack button. Also mapped to the attack button are the lava bucket and magma block abilities. The lava bucket is a down smash that sends opponents flying at a low trajectory. The magma block is an up smash that creates a block above Steve’s head that can help launch a juggled opponent. Steve can also send an anvil plummeting straight down if players press down and attack while in the air.

Steve’s mobility further evokes the feeling of Minecraft. Unlike other characters,  Steve is incapable of jumping high enough to reach the platforms on the Battlefield stage without a double jump or other assistance. He can, however, build and suspend blocks in midair, which will allow him to walk or climb about the stage with relative freedom. These blocks can be broken with attacks and disappear. Their characteristics will change slightly depending on what material is used to build them and where they are placed on the stage.

Materials are used for far more than blocks. When Steve is selected, a crafting table will appear at the beginning of the round. Players can also summon the crafting table by pressing the shield and special button at the same time. It is at these tables that players can upgrade their weapons and tools to be more effective using materials they mine from the stage. This means different stages will likely call for different strategies, as different moves require different materials. Moves can also be enhanced by materials. Steve’s side special allows him to ride a mine cart across the stage. The cart can move faster at the cost of some materials.

Steve will launch alongside a Minecraft themed stage. The stage alternates between different multiple biomes that should be familiar to fans of the original game. Seven songs from Minecraft games, like Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons, will also be included. Six of these seven songs are new arrangements. The presentation also showed off some of the new spirits as well. One screen displayed a Creeper, Enderman, Ghast, and others.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Minecraft DLC comes out for the Nintendo Switch on October 13, 2020.

Ultimate Minecraft DLC was confirmed during Nintendo’s presentation on October 1, 2020. Steve is heading to the game. Though, it isn’t really just Steve. It turns out the DLC will also let people swap appearances and be Alex, Enderman, and a Zombie.

In the video, Nintendo showed how Steve (and his palette swaps) will work. People will actually be able to place Minecraft blocks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stages. Steve and Alex will have swords and pickaxes, and it seems you could “craft” to upgrade the sword. TNT will also be available.

Here’s the full video. Toward the second part of it, we can see how the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Minecraft stage will look and how it will change to reflect the seasons.

When Masahiro Sakurai, the director, spoke after the segment, he mentioned how he “didn’t think this day would come.” He also said Nintendo came to him asking if this could happen. He said, “The wizardry required to make it work in this game… it’s impossible! So I laid it out straight for them. I said, ‘Yes, I can do it.’” He went on to explain that stages had to be “reworked” for Steve and Alex’s blocks and the series’ biomes.

Steve is one of six characters available in Fighters 2. Only one of them was released so far, and that’s ARMS’ Min Min.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch, and the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Minecraft Steve, and the Alex, Enderman, and Zombie options, will appear in Challenger Pack 7. Minecraft is available on platforms like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Minecraft virtual reality has been a thing for a while now. Mojang has ed headsets on different platforms, like the Oculus Rift. The Windows 10 version of the game even had Windows Mixed Reality . But, there wasn’t any PlayStation VR . That is, until this month. Mojang announced on the PlayStation Blog that a Minecraft PSVR update is on the way in September 2020.

Like the Windows Mixed Reality VR experience, the Minecraft PSVR experience will be free feature. If you have the PlayStation 4, it will get the patch that will let anyone with the PSVR headset play the game in the first-person with it. It won’t be any separate version of the game. You can immediately play what you already have, just with the headset.

The announcement also went over a few details about how this will all work. This VR experience is based on all the other Minecraft VR experiences. Both Sony and SkyBox Labs were involved with making it happen. Folks can use their DualShock 4s to play, as usual. There will also be Immersive and Living Room modes to help people find the experience and option that best suits their playstyle.

Minecraft is available on Sony platforms like the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. Minecraft PSVR will arrive in September 2020. The game also s cross-play on all platforms and has its own CoroCoro manga in Japan.

CoroCoro released its Big Survey 2020 results that show Fortnite, Pokemon, Mario, and other favorite game series that kids in Japan voted as the best this year.

CoroCoro usually releases its Big Survey for its anniversary in May, but this year's results were delayed due to the pandemic. The survey went out back in February 2020. Out of about 60 questions, the one we're focusing on today is about favorite video game series.

Keep in mind that the readers of CoroCoro are much younger target audience than readers of Shonen manga, so titles like Monster Hunter are never too high on the list.

Fortnite saw a meteoric rise in popularity to finish at #1 with 20% of the votes. The game rose to the top from #5 last year when it had about 9% of the votes. Pokemon also had 9% of the votes to come #4 last year, but this year it made the jump to #2 with 15% of the votes. We can certainly attribute that to the latest release in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Last year's top series Super Smash Bros. went from 17% of the votes to 9% to chart at #4.
