The Nintendo Switch 2 is almost upon us. With the recent Direct, we now know almost everything about the console. This even includes its launch lineup and beyond. So many games and new entries in beloved series are on the way. As such, the Siliconera staff has come together with our picks for the most anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 game.

I've always thought of Mario Kart as a fun party style game, but never gave it much thought outside of that. But with Mario Kart World going the open route, I'm very curious to see how Nintendo approaches this new style of racing. -- Daniel

If I may be cheeky, the return of Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness were by far the most exciting announcements for me. It's not just because they are two of the best games that launched on GameCube but also because it suggests that something similar could happen again. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet featured double battles as the main mechanic in the Indigo Disc DLC and I hope these games' popularity will inspire more doubles and battle focused Pokémon games in the future. -- George

Honestly, I felt a little underwhelmed by what they showed at the Direct. As much as Mario Kart World looks like it'll tap into whatever part of my brain decided Forza Horizon 5 was my GOTY for 2021, the price announcements dulled that excitement significantly. Nothing else in the Direct felt essential enough for me to dip into the new system just yet either. So my answer remains the same as it does for the original Switch: Metroid Prime 4. The Metroid series is still one of my favorite Nintendo franchises, and the Prime games are always superb. And now there's telekinesis? Heck yeah. -- Leigh

Right now, it is Pokemon Legends Z-A for me. While we don’t know exactly what the dedicated Switch 2 Edition will entail, I look forward to playing it on the new console. I love the idea of a Pokemon game taking place entirely within one massive city and I hope the Switch 2 is able to make it run at preferably 60FPS while lookin much sharper and cleaner in 4K. It seems likely, given the June 5 launch date for the Switch 2, that this version will be out in time for the game’s release, but for now, we will have to wait and see. -- Cody

A remake of the 2010 Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns launched for the Nintendo Switch under the name Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on January 16. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition 4u4c36

A full remaster of the Wii U action RPG from 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition launched for Nintendo Switch on March 20. Pokémon Legends: Z-A 195733

Announced during Pokémon Day 2024, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the next game in the Legends subseries following Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It will feature a different battle system from both the mainline Pokémon games and Arceus, and will focus on catching Pokémon out in the wild. The game’s Royal Tournament was announced during the March Nintendo Direct. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is launching in late-2025, and is expected to be available on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond 4o2l47

The long-awaited new entry in the Metroid Prime series, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is scheduled to launch in 2025. Metroid Prime 4 was first announced in 2017, but we didn’t see footage until 2024. The first-person action game will see the return of Samus Aran, and introduces psychic power to her arsenal. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is expected to launch late in the year, and be available for both Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.

Mario Kart World th45

Mario Kart World is a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. This latest mainline entry in the series will boast the most players at once with up to 24 players in the lobby. In addition, the game will feature an entire open-world map to explore. Players can pick select tracks to race on or even explore the various regions with friends.

Kirby Air Riders 3g5i5u

This looks to be a full-on remake or at least remaster of the original Nintendo GameCube racing game. Players will be able to race as Kirby and friends throughout gorgeous landscapes. Perhaps most surprisingly, Masahiro Sakurai himself will be returning to the helm as the director of this Switch 2 title. It will release sometime for Switch 2 in 2025.

Donkey Kong Bananza 145q18

This open-world adventure from Nintendo appears to be a pseudo-successor to Donkey Kong 64. Players will be able to explore a vast world. There are mines, open areas, and plenty of enemies to fight in the Switch 2 game. Most of the adventure seems to take place from a 3D perspective. However, there are also the occasional, traditional 2D moments. It will release on July 17, 2025.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025, and a Nintendo Direct with more information on the console appeared on April 2, 2025.

A new gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was revealed at the March 2025 Nintendo Direct. The game will release for Switch sometime in 2025.

In new gameplay trailer, Nintendo showed more of Metroid Prime 4. The trailer introduced us to Planet Viewros, a jungle planet built around a giant tree, along with a selection of new enemies that Samus will face off against. The trailer also revealed that most of Samus' new abilities are going to revolve around psychic powers. Telekinesis was the main power shown off, with Samus moving energy around, manipulating objects and changing the trajectory of her beams.

We also got hints at the game's plot, as a mysterious alien race appear to have called Samus to their planet. One of them calls her the Chosen One. A new red suit was also shown right at the end of the trailer too, although it's not clear what the purpose of it is yet.

Metroid Prime 4 was first announced way back in 2017. It was being worked on by an unconfirmed developer until 2019, when development restarted under original Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios. It finally resurfaced at the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, now under the title Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release for Nintendo Switch later in 2025.

Nintendo published the company’s financial results for Q3 of the current fiscal year ending in March 31, 2025. In its report, Nintendo also confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be coming out in 2025.

As part of the latest financial results, Nintendo reported a 31.4% decrease in general sales year-over-year (YoY,) with the sales for Q1-Q3 of the Fiscal Year 2025 amounting to 956.2 billion yen (~$6.19 billion) earned, compared to the 1,394.7 billion yen (~$9.038 billion) earned in Fiscal Year 2024. Meanwhile, the company’s operating profit in FY2025 for Q1-Q3 was 247.5 billion yen (~$1.6 billion,) which saw a 46.7% decrease YoY compared to the 464.4 billion yen (~$3.01 billion) earned in FY2024/Q1-Q3.

As for its ordinary profit, Nintendo saw a 42.3% decrease YoY with 327.1 billion yen (~$2.12 billion) earned in FY2025 for Q1-Q3, and 567.3 billion yen (~$3.67 billion) the previous year. The company’s quarter net income also saw a 41.9% decrease YoY, with 237.1 billion yen (~$1,53 billion) earned in FY2025/Q1-Q3 compared to the 408 billion yen (~$2,64 billion) earned in FY2024/Q1-Q3.

The highest selling titles for Nintendo in this period were Super Mario Party Jamboree with 6.17 million units sold, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 5.38 million units, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was third selling 3.91 million units, and Nintendo Switch Sports was fourth with 2.63 million units sold.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be coming out on 2025 for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo still hasn’t confirmed if the games will also appear on the Nintendo Switch 2.
