Good Smile Company announced it will rerelease both the Samus Aran Zero Suit and standard figma figures based on the character’s Metroid: Other M opinions. The two initially launched over 10 years ago, with the standard Power Suit option debuting back in 2012 and the Zero Suit design debuting in 2016. Due to the Trump tariffs, the US site orders aren’t open. Both figures are priced at ¥9,800 (~68) in the Japanese storefront. The Power Suit version will appear in January 2026 in Japan, followed by Zero Suit in February 2026.

In the case of the Power Suit, that doesn’t come with any additional face parts. This is because Samus wears a helmet throughout, of course. Instead, the extra parts are designed to showcase different poses or actions. There are two beam effects to show her firing her gun. You can also make it look like she found and is shooting missiles. One part includes a thumbs up hand for her left hand. You also get a Morph Ball.

Here’s how that one looks:

With the Zero Suit Samus, we get various head parts in addition to other accessories. Smiling and stern face plates are included. You can also swap the hair pieces so she can be displayed with either short hair or a long-haired ponytail. Her right hand thumbs up part is included. So are a gun and replica of Adam’s helmet to hold.

These are all the photos Good Smile Company shared of that version of her.

The Metroid: Other M Samus Aran Power Suit figma will debut in January 2026 in Japan, followed by the Zero Suit figure in February 2026. There’s no word on US release dates yet. Pre-orders close on July 2, 2025. Metroid: Other M appeared on the Wii worldwide.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Metroid: Other M, and Demon's Crest have come to the North American Virtual Console library.

There are three new additions to North America’s Virtual Console today. Nintendo Wii U owners can pick up two installments in iconic series, as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Metroid: Other M appear in the eShop. Meanwhile, New Nintendo 3DS owners can play Demon’s Crest.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon originally appeared on the Nintendo DS. This is a remake of the very first Fire Emblem game, which only appeared on the Famicom in Japan. Prince Marth of Altea, accompanied by Princess Caeda of Talys and other allies, must travel across Archanea to defeat the Dark Dragon Medeus, resurrected by a sorcerer named Gharnef. The DS released offered a number of features not present in the original game, such as the ability to change characters’ classes, recruit units, choose a difficulty level, and save during battle. It’s $9.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.

Metroid: Other M is a Team Ninja, D-Rockets, and Nintendo game that first appeared on the Nintendo Wii in 2010. It follows Samus between the events of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion as she works with Adam Malkovich, her former Galactic Federation commanding officer, as they explore a Galactic Federation Bottle Ship. People can explore and fight from a third-person perspective, though it is possible to switch to a first-person view to explore or fire missiles. Samus can also use melee attacks against enemies, under the right circumstances. It’s $19.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.

Demon’s Crest originally appeared on the Super Nintendo in 1994 and is the third entry in the Gargoyle’s Quest series. Firebrand is attempting to become the most powerful demon and, at the outset of the game, has acquired the six Crests that would make that possible. However, he’s injured as he gets the last one, the Crest of Heaven, and another demon named Phalanx steals everything except the Crest of Fire from him. Firebrand heads out to regain the Crests and overthrow Phalanx, earning one of three endings in the process. However, getting the “best” ending gives you a that lets you fight a secret boss. It’s $7.99 in the New Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Capcom USA and Nintendo have confirmed that the Metroid: Other M collaborative equipment in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be available in the West. The collaboration was announced via a Japanese Nintendo Direct for the game earlier this morning.

Metroid isn’t the only Nintendo franchise that will be represented in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Players will also be able to use Link’s tunic and weapons from the Zelda series, and will also be able to dress their Palicoes (AKA Felynes) up as Isabelle and Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Meanwhile, other non-Nintendo franchises are being included in the game, too. A collaboration with Bandai Namco’s Taiko Drum Master and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog are part of the mix, and Capcom even said to Siliconera that the Sonic collaboration was created with MH4U’s Western release in mind.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be released in North America and Europe in early 2015.

Earlier this morning, Nintendo streamed their latest Nintendo Direct presentation for the Japanese release of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which will be available this weekend in Japan. At the end of the stream, there was a special little something for Metroid fans.

Similar to the other collaborations, the one with Metroid: Other M will feature quests that will allow you to gather materials to make Samus’ Power Suit and Zero Suit, along with a Bowgun weapon that looks like her Arm Cannon. By collecting all the pieces of the set, they will make some sounds you might be familiar with from the Metroid series.

The collaboration will run from December 17th, 2014 - January 28th, 2015. It will be available via 7-Eleven stores throughout Japan.

2014-10-08_052540

Not limited to the collaboration with Metroid: Other M, all collaborations will feature special limited edition Guild Cards as well.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will release in Japan this Saturday, and a western release in early 2015 for Nintendo 3DS. Since the Zelda and Animal Crossing collaborations are confirmed for the West, the Metroid collaboration will probably make its way over, too.

Relax, Nintendo still loves Metroid. The company is still working on the series, reports Kotaku, who had a chance to speak with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi.

“So it has been a while since we released the last one and we're having discussions internally about what we can do next,” said Takahashi, who is now the general manager of Nintendo's Software Planning & Development team, which previously reported to Satoru Iwata.

“So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game,” Takahashi continued. "We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we'll be able to share something about them.”

Takahashi goes on to say that he’s fond of both styles of Metroid, and that they both have a different kind of appeal.

Earlier in the year, Miyamoto stated that Retro Studios, who have been working on a new project since November, are “a very high priority in of the potential team that would be considered for working on a Metroid game”.

Last year, Max Factory released Figma figurines of Link, Samus and Pit in Japan, which sold out relatively quickly. Now, it looks like the Link and Samus figures are making their way over to the U.S., as a store named Big Bad Toy Store lists both of them along with the following message:

Great News! We have just confirmed that the licensing issue that previously caused this item not to be released in the USA has been worked out. A new production run will be made and release is confirmed for the 4th Quarter 2013!

The Link figurine can be pre-ordered here, while Samus can be found here. Both figures cost $50 each. In addition to the two Figmas, the PVC statue of Samus in her Zero Suit is listed as well, can be found here for $100.

Pit, however, may not be coming over any time soon, as the Big Bad Toy Store only lists an import version of the Pit Figma, with no listing for a U.S. release.

What two Nintendo series does Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto want to see on the Wii U? Metroid and StarFox, according to an IGN interview.   “With Metroid it’s very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U,” Miyamoto said to IGN. “I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that.”   While Metroid is a series that Miyamoto thinks would benefit from the Wii U controller from an objective standpoint, the one he’d like to see most on the system personally is StarFox. However, he didn’t share any thoughts regarding what a potential StarFox game on Wii U would be like.

Last year, Metroid fansite, Shinesparkers.net, released an entire album of Metroid music, titled “Harmony of a Hunter,” comprising of various remixes and re-imaginings of the series’ music across the different different games. The project was a celebration of Metroid’s 25th anniversary in Japan. You can listen to a preview here and the soundtrack for free here.

Recently, Shinesparkers announced that they’re updating the album with more music sometime in the near future. Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run will contain a few new tracks that weren’t in the original release. Here’s a preview of some of these songs:

Earlier in the week, we read reports that Max Factory would be creating two officially-licensed Samus figurines for release in 2012, based on her look in Metroid: Other M.

I held off on posting the news since no images of the figures were available, but since then, Tokyo Hunter and Tomopop have managed to get ahold of some.

Both figures are planned for release in 2012. The one pictured to the right is a Figma.

The one below is a 1/8 scale static PVC figure of Zero Suit Samus:

You can find more images of both figures over at Tomopop in the link above.

I just happened to notice the other day while browsing Nintendo of Europe’s site, that they actually translated an interesting discussion between Satoru Iwata, Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Metroid producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, in August 2010. I never caught wind of this, so perhaps some of our readers haven’t either.

It’s an odd trio that you think wouldn’t have much in common, but after developing the original Final Fantasy, Sakaguchi worked with Sakamoto on an adventure game titled Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School. Squaresoft and Nintendo developed the game together, and it involved the player’s character transferring to a school that Japanese celebrity, Miho Nakayama, was attending.

The two developers discuss their styles of development and how they’re similar. Sakaguchi gives away a little more information regarding how he developed The Last Story as well, saying it’s the first game since Final Fantasy VII where he chose to flesh the game and its systems out, and then inserted the story into it where appropriate. The only other game he’s approached in this manner is the original Final Fantasy.

“There are also places in games,” Sakaguchi says, “such as the moment when you open a castle door for the first time, when you think, ‘I’d like some story here’. For The Last Story, especially because I wasn’t making it using my usual method but rather started by implementing the game systems, there were times when I’d have to begin by finding such places.”

“I was thinking about where I could bury the story, as it were,” he elaborated. “That’s why I used a new method of writing the script, trying to write it in map units. During the process of making these into a game, I’d think ‘where can I bury this episode?’, and if the order I buried the different parts changed, there were times when I’d also change the flow of the story.”

“I think players hate it when they play a game where the story isn’t developed where they want it to. Can’t you imagine them thinking ‘I’m being pushed around by some self-important story writer’?”

Going back to his castle door reference, Sakaguchi emphasized: “So when the door opens with a thud, as well as playing the dun-dun-dun-duuun music and displaying a message saying ‘this is ___ castle’, that is the moment for adding some kind of story. That was the thing I was most aware of on this project.”

Food for thought:

In the Tokimeki High School game, Nakayama’s true identity was hidden, and it was up to the player to get to know her. The quirky part is that Square wanted this to be a game that had players making use of telephones, and so, there was a number that players could call to listen to hints regarding the game and its story.

The folks over at the Metroid Database have gone ahead and translated another Japanese piece of Metroid media, this time directing their efforts toward the Metroid: Other M concept art gallery, which they ripped from the game.

If you look through it, you’ll find some fun oddities that are a result of director Yoshio Sakamoto’s oddball sense of humour, like a mention of Waver courting rituals and flaming poo. The concept gallery also points out some interesting facts, such as how elevators in Other M were designed to feel like “safe zones” for the player.

Oh, one I liked is the concept for young Samus, which points out her “wild dog feel”.

Another concept -- one for the Zero Suit -- suggests linking the glowing of the suit patterns to Samus' movements. You can find the entire gallery of translated concepts at the Metroid Database.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions on the Nintendo 3DS is developed by Team Ninja, who also, tly with Nintendo, developed Metroid: Other M on the Wii. Thanks to this close partnership, Team Ninja’s fighting game has a Metroid: Other M bonus stage in it.

Metroid series antagonist, the seemingly-immortal, but always cute and cuddly Pterodactyl, Ridley, is present in the stage, too, as an on-site hazard. He’ll be istering the same treatment as he did to Other M players, to anyone unlucky enough to get caught up in his claws.

Luckily, Metroid’s Samus Aran appears in the stage as an assist character to help you out. Here’s a clearer look at the stage (and Ridley’s antics):

Samus merely shows up to assist the player, according to Team Ninja lead, Yosuke Hayashi.

Last week, a Dead or Alive: Dimensions trailer showed off a Metroid: Other M stage in the Team Ninja fighting game. The trailer, which you can view above, led most to believe that Metroid protagonist, Samus Aran, would be a playable character in the game as well.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case, according to Team Ninja lead, Yosuke Hayashi. Speaking with Eurogamer, he confirmed: “This time she’s not playable. But Samus Aran will be shown in the game. She comes to help the player. That’s the collaboration shown there [in the trailer]. But how you can unlock Samus Aran? Please find out by yourself.”

For those that haven’t kept up with it, Dimensions is a chronicling of the first four Dead or Alive games with added content. According to Hayashi, Team Ninja’s intent was to create the “best version of Dead or Alive” and including Samus was not pertinent to that goal.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is a Nintendo 3DS launch window game, which means it will release sometime between the system’s launch and E3 in June.
