SuperGroupies announced a Metaphor: ReFantazio clothing and accessory collection that includes items based on the protagonist, like Will’s coat, and could be used for everyday use or worn as a cosplay item. A Protagonist Model Trench Coat and Shoulder Bag will both be available in “late” November 2025. As a reminder, Super Groupies did note that Trump tariffs will affect prices for those of us in the US, so it is important to keep in mind possible “tariff adjustment charges” before using the worldwide shipping option to purchase any items.

The SuperGroupies Protagonist Model Trench Coat based on the one Will wears throughout Metaphor: ReFantazio is the more expensive of the two items at $299.99, and it is also the one that most resembles the actual jacket that is close enough to the real costume that it could be used for cosplay. It is a double-breasted style with a light white and grey plaid print. There’s a belt at the waist, and there is an optional, removable throat tab designed to resemble the armor at the neck in-game. The interior tag resembles the novel our avatar carries, and there’s a reference to Gallica with a gold silhouette on the inside as well. It is available in sizes medium through XXL. It is also a unisex style, so anyone can wear it.

Here’s a closer look at that coat.

The $239.99 Protagonist Model Shoulder Bag is inspired by the one Will carries throughout Metaphor: ReFantazio. It’s not an exact replica, however. It is about a foot tall and is over 15 inches wide. It comes with a shoulder strap that is about 55 inches long, so you can wear it cross-body. It can hold B4 size papers and books. It also has a tag inside that resembles the novel in the game and matches the tag in the coat.

These are the first photos of it:

This isn’t the only SuperGroupies item that could be used everyday or for cosplay. The Vash coat in the Trigun Stampede collection could be as well.

Pre-orders for the Metaphor: ReFantazio Protagonist Model Trench Coat and Shoulder Bag are open until June 15, 2025, and the items that can be worn everyday or used for cosplay will launch in late November 2025. Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The manga based on it is running now worldwide.

Hyte Shared Metaphor: ReFantazio Y70 PC Case and Keycaps

Hyte and Atlus announced a Metaphor: ReFantazio collection that includes a Y70 PC case, set of keyboard keycaps, keychain, wallscroll, and three different desk pad mousepads. Pre-orders are open, though the official Amazon storefront doesn't show them yet. However, it is important to also note that Hyte products are subject to US President Donald Trump tariffs. As a result, the company announced price increases due to the new duties and Product Director Rob Teller said on Reddit that US new pre-orders that aren’t open are paused and headed to other regions.

In the case of the Y70 Metaphor: ReFantazio PC case, it costs $299.99 before taxes and any additional fees. To go along with the game’s themes and color schemes, the case itself is mahogany. However, the whole cast doesn’t appear on it. The main character, Leon Strohl da Haliaetus, Eiselin Burchelli Meijal Hulkenberg, and Heismay Noctule show up on the glass s. The first 500 pre-orders include the matching wall scroll, according to the product page

The Metaphor: ReFantazio keycaps are also designed to match the Y70. The keys are mahogany with gold letters and iconography based on the game. A Gallica silhouette appears on the enter key, as does the avatar’s sword. Other keys feature things like the teeth monsters and the game’s logo. That set is expected to ship in August 2025, and its price before fees is $109.99.

The other items in the set are more straightforward. Here’s the list:

Hyte shared multiple photos of the different items, which you can see in the gallery below:

Hyte frequently releases PC cases, keycaps, and accessories based on games. One of the major 2023 releases from the company involved a Persona 3 Reload collection. In 2024, a Honkai: Star Rail set based on Silver Wolf showed up. There are also many Hololive items as well.

The Hyte Metaphor: ReFantazio collection begins shipping in July 2025. The game is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The PS5 has been out for a while now, but that doesn’t mean that developers have stopped making games for the PS4. It’s still going strong, and we’ve had a look into the console’s library to find our favorite 3D turn-based JRPGs. If you’re looking for a game to play on your PlayStation 4 then we have 10 must-play JRPGs listed below.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age 551z6n

Dragon Quest is one of the most iconic series of all time, and when it comes to turn-based JRPGs it’s one of the first series that will likely come to mind. However, the most famous games in the series are the original pixel art games. While 3D designs were introduced in Dragon Quest IX, it only reached its full modern form in one of the series’ greatest entries, Dragon Quest XI.

If you love the combat in other Dragon Quest games, then you’re getting more of that here, alongside the other Dragon Quest hallmarks. You’ll explore a wide-open world full of secrets, speak with NPCs, and feel the world change seemingly separate from your actions. It wraps everything fans have loved about the series for decades in a gripping and fresh new story.

Persona 3 Reload 4xf3j

Persona is one of the most popular series of turn-based JRPGs, and Persona 3 is a personal favorite – despite the original not allowing you to control your teammates. Persona 5 Royal is perhaps the more obvious choice for this slot – and it is incredible – I was surprised to find that the excellent remake Persona 3 Reload was simultaneously released on PS4 as well as PS5.

Aside from shiny new graphics, and a UI so beautiful it will make you weep, Persona 3 Reload adds new battle elements including the much needed alterations to the game’s difficulty. There are more Personas, items, and fusions than ever before, and you don’t have to worry about upsetting people and reversing their social links. Persona 3 is a must play, and if you’re used to the comforts of Persona 5 then Reload is the version you’ll want.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth 4z6b1m

Image via Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio

Another extremely recent release that is also available on PS4, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of the best games in the Yakuza series. While games in the series are usually action RPGs, this changed with the also brilliant Yakuza: Like A Dragon, where our new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga perceives every street brawl as a turn-based battle. Despite being ed by the original protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, both of our guys take turns when they fight.

In Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Ichiban travels to Hawaii to find his biological mother after being told where she lives. He finds that she has gone missing, and after a chance encounter, he teams up with Kiryu to solve the mystery. It’s not only a heart-warming story, but it has all of the goofy side quests, must-play mini games, and karaoke that the series is known for.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 5u3a37

Screenshot of the party from Valkyria Chronicles 4
Image via Sega

When it comes to turn-based JRPGs, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is instantly intriguing with its dreamy yet comic book-style aesthetic. Unlike other JRPGs, which are set in high school, and / or epic open world exploration, Valkyria Chronicles is based on war. The series as a whole is about your army’s strategic plays, and the bonds between your units.

Valkyria Chronicles' strength as a series has long been its robust post game. There is almost more to do after you roll credits than before, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 really pushes the boat out on this. Alongside more battles, there are six more recruitable characters, and even characters you can bring back from the dead. If you’re looking to try out the series, the fourth entry puts its best foot forward.

Metaphor: ReFantazio 1f5p5b

One of the best games of 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio, released on PS4 as well as PS5 making it the perfect game for this list. The team that created Metaphor contains many of the developers from the modern Persona series, and it shows through the structure of the gameplay. Metaphor is more high-fantasy than high school, but you will still split your days between crawling dungeons and bonding with your party .

When the king is assassinated it is decided that the next king will be decided democratically. In an effort to prevent the king’s assassin Louis from taking the throne, you decide to run for the position. You and the few followers that you recruit travel the world, helping citizens in different towns around the country. Metaphor keeps the spirit of Persona, but includes a lot of learnings from the series’ weaknesses.

Disgaea 5 3o6m57

Screenshot of characters talking in Disgaea 5
Image via Nippon Ichi Software

Disgaea 5 is one of the darker entries in what has historically been a goofy JRPG series. You still have the Prinnys – human souls trapped in a penguinesque bodies that are obsessed with the word dude – but there is the overarching sense of foreboding. You get the feeling that the game is taking itself a bit more seriously even if you don’t.

Disgaea 5 is a mix of visual novel, and 3D isometric strategic battles that can be quite challenging if you don’t get to grips with how the combat system works. All of the Disgaea games tie together, but you can enjoy each as their own standalone game, up to and including the most recent Disgaea 7, on PS4. A fantastic series to lose your life to.

Final Fantasy IX 492m12

Screenshot of a battle from Final Fantasy IX
Image via Square Enix

Almost every Final Fantasy game is available on PS4, though most are excluded from this list as the early games are in 2D, and the later games are action RPGs. In our list of the best 3D turn-based JRPGs on Switch we included Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy VIII – both of which are excellent games – but we thought that Final Fantasy IX also deserved the love, particularly given the long-standing rumors that a remake is on the way.

Final Fantasy IX takes everything learned from the previous games of the series, and works as a nostalgic trip down memory lane for long-time fans of the series. The developers took players’ favorite parts of the other games in the series, and mixed them with a new and heartfelt story making it one of the best Final Fantasy games.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory 9122s

Screenshot of two Digimon from Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory
Image via Bandai Namco

You’ve likely heard something along the lines of Digimon being a more mature version of Pokémon, and while it definitely has darker themes, the combat systems are not at all similar. They are both creature collectors, but how those creatures grow stronger, and your team works together is completely different. Digimon not only grow stronger, but they grow weaker and stronger again to reach their final forms, and you battle with three at a time.

The actual ‘mons aside, Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory is far darker than even Drampa burning down the houses of bullies with them inside. It’s deep and emotional and the polar opposite to Pokémon’s surface level stories, and it’s all the stronger for it. It’s very narratively deep and feels almost like a visual novel with how extensive the story-telling is. If you want a deep JRPG adventure, then Hacker’s Memory is definitely worth playing.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III 6x5mz

Screenshot of two people talking from The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3
Image via NIS America

The Legend of Heroes is a long-running and iconic JRPG series, and Trails of Cold Steel is one of its most iconic subseries. If you’re new to the Trails of Cold Steel, you should probably start at the beginning as the story carries over between entries, but we’ve picked the third game here as it’s probably the strongest. Trails of Cold Steel III’s introduction will catch you up, but you owe it to yourself to play the whole subseries.

The games in the Trails of Cold Steel series tell an epic adventure. In the third game our characters are a little older, and the war is over, but there is still political tensions hiding just beneath the surface. It’s heavy on the story, and how the characters live and interact with each other, but also has a deep combat system. If you’re a fan of turn-based party combat, and how the characters synergize in battle, then this is the choice for you.

Blue Reflection: Second Light 676y45

Screenshot of a character shooting from Blue Reflection: Second Light
Image via Koei Tecmo

The least well-known series on the list, Blue Reflection didn’t receive much hype when it launched back in 2017. It was seen as a mediocre JRPG with your standard themes of high school girls and the power of friendship. However, the sequel Blue Reflection: Second Light allows the series to step into its own, with powerful storytelling, and touching characterization.

It’s clear that lessons have been learned from the mediocre reception to the first game. Combat system has changed from the original to make it more complex and engaging. The same goes for the characters, which are not only more fleshed out, but the juxtaposition between the intense battles and the girls’ touching relationships make for a stark contrast. One to try.

One to try.

Let us know what your favorite JRPGs for the PlayStation 4 are in the comments below!

When we thought gaming couldn’t get any better, 2024 raised the bar once again. Gamers have been eating well over the past year, and we have the excellent developers behind our favorite games to thank for that. This International Women’s Day, we’re honoring six game makers who made the year better via their contributions to our favorite video games. The list is by no means exhaustive, but hopefully shouting out just a few incredible women who work on games, it will encourage more people to look behind the curtain at just who brings these amazing experiences to life. Here's our list of six games you should check out below:

Pinki Li – Writer, 1000xResist 2e2f1c

Image via Sunset Visitor

1000xResist is one of the standout releases of last year. Telling the story of a society cloned from a single teenage girl immune to a disease that devastated the planet, 1000xResist examines everything from Chinese diaspora in Canada, and the building of culture from nothing, to the internal struggle of burden, and loss.

It is not an easy story to tell, and even just playing through it you will need to take time to digest it. However, as one of the main writers on the project Pinki Li tackles these topics with grace, and nuance, while not shying away from showing a darker side to emmigration. 1000xResist’s power comes from the strength of its narrative, and we have Pinki Li to thank for that. It is a powerful game, a powerful narrative, and a powerful experience, and one of the must play games of the last 12 months.

1000xResist launched on May 9, 2024, and is available on PC and Nintendo Switch.

Azusa Kido – Director of daily events, Metaphor: ReFantazio 4q5c4m

Metaphor: ReFantazio is indisputably one of the best games of last year. Developer Studio Zero took their work on the modern Persona series and elevated it to a whole new level with changes that go beyond the high-fantasy setting. Metaphor: ReFantazio splits the gameplay, and story between dungeon-crawling action, improving your Kingly Virtues, and forming tighter bonds with the people you meet.

Metaphor: ReFantazio’s biggest improvement over the Persona series is the wider variety of actions you can do when not on the critical path, and the more lenient time frame you have to complete them. We can thank the director of daily events Azusa Kido for these improvements, as she worked to tweak the formula, make daily life more engaging, and give players more options to individualize their playthroughs. As one of the many amazing women in gaming, Kido’s contribution to Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the most important additions to the game.

Metaphor: ReFantazio was released on October 11, 2024, and is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.

Anna Todich and Anastasia Dyachuk – Actors, Indika 3t7010

Screenshot from Indika. Indika looks away from the camera with a questioning gaze.

Indika is one of the most singular experiences of 2024. There is no other game I can compare it to. It tells the story of a Russian nun who is ostracized from her community as she suffers a mental health crisis. She begins to have a crisis of faith, and on her journey to deliver a letter, comes across a dying man, who believes he can be healed by visiting a holy artifact, the Kudets, and she decides to him hoping to heal herself and reclaim her faith.

Anna Todich voices the titular Indika, and Anastasia Dyachuk worked as her face model making for a dynamic duo of women in gaming. With so few characters in the game, Indika’s strength is in the skill of its actors. Indika’s inner torment can be read through her facial expression and her voice, and as a character study, Indika would not be as incredible as it is without the work of these actors.

Indika launched on May 2, 2024, and is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.

Åsa Wallander – 2D artist, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes 6h1354

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was developed by Simogo, the same team that created the rhythm-based acid trip Sayonara Wild Hearts. Before I talk about the game and Åsa Wallander’s contributions, I want to shout out Simogo in general for highlighting each of its developers and giving them all the recognition they deserve. Developers are the lifeblood of the industry and they deserve so much more recognition than they receive.

If Celeste is the hardest platformer anyone can beat, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is the hardest puzzle game anyone can beat, if they put in the effort without immediately giving up the ghost. It will make you feel the smartest and dumbest you’ve ever been all at once. Åsa Wallander’s work is not meant to be noticed; it’s the type of work that players only notice when it’s done poorly. The environmental art is a masterclass in style, sucking you into the world that is beholden to no particular period leaving you with a sense of unease. If you appreciated the atmosphere of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Åsa Wallander is to thank.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was released on May 16, 2024, and is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5.

Saho Nishikawa – Producer, Fantasian: Neo Dimension xhc

Square Enix and RPGs go hand-in-hand, and not only does the company love producing them, but it is excellent at doing so. Not only that but Fantasian: Neo Dimension was developed by Mistwalker, best known for creating the Wii cult classic, The Last Story. From this pedigree it seemed inevitable that Fantasian: Neo Dimension would be an excellent game, but there is something specific that sets it apart.

Every background, every environment, every scene, is created physically before being put into the game. Everything except the sprites and the UI, including the towns and the battle grounds are dioramas; real life paper craft, and models that make up the backgrounds. It takes the 2D-HD art style that became popular with Octopath Traveler and pushes it to the next level. Producer Saho Nishikawa’s work focused on the creation of these dioramas, alongside the special effects that make them blend so seamlessly into the game. We hope that more women in gaming push game art like this in the future.

Fantasian: Neo Dimension was released on December 5, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Strohl Dubbed Most Popular Character in Metaphor: ReFantazio Poll

Atlus shared the final results that revealed the most popular character in Metaphor: ReFantazio in a showcase on March 7, 2025, and Leon Strohl da Haliaetus won. This means the results didn’t change much from the check-in released in January 2025, as he was in first back then too. All results stemmed from a poll for the game held on an official Japanese site, which opened back in December 2024.

Here are the top 20 people who placed in the final poll results, which showed the top three most popular characters in Metaphor: ReFantazio remained Strohl, Louis, and the hero.

  1. Leon Strohl da Haliaetus – 10,047 votes
  2. Louis Guiabern – 9,308 votes
  3. Hero (aka Will) – 7,872 votes
  4. Basilio Magnus – 6,526 votes
  5. Euphausia “Eupha” Etoreika – 4,926 votes

Once again, Junah was the only party member to not appear in the top 10.

Here's a screenshot of the top 50 from the final results:

There honestly wasn’t that much variation between the midterm results and final ones. Only Heismay and Hulkenberg swapped spots.

  1. Leon Strohl da Haliaetus – 4,637 votes
  2. Louis Guiabern – 4,408 votes
  3. Hero (aka Will) – 3,483 votes
  4. Basilio Magnus – 3,379 votes

You can watch the showcase below. The results come up at the end. As you might expect, one of the guests was Kensho Ono. He’s the Japanese voice actor for Strohl in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Metaphor: ReFantazio can be found on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The manga adaptation is available worldwide, with MangaPlus offering it in English.

Metaphor ReFantazio Gallica figure by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya has formally opened pre-orders for its figure of Gallica from Metaphor: ReFantazio. It will release the figure in Japan in October 2025 with a price tag of 16,500 yen.

The non-scale 22.6 cm (~8.9 inches) tall figure has had a long road in development ever since Kotobukiya first announced the plan in June 2024. The company gradually published updates about the figure's development, which included an unpainted prototype showcase in September 2024. In a more recent update in early 2025, Kotobukiya showed that the Gallica figure prototype had been fully painted, which meant it would soon reveal the figure's release window and open the pre-orders.

Kotobukiya has also revealed an exclusive bonus part for orders made on its Kotobukiya Online Shop, which can only ship the figure domestically in Japan. This part will let the owner replace Gallica's face with another facial expression that shows her smiling with closed happy eyes.

The figure is also available on Atlus D Shop, which offers a different exclusive bonus in the form of a B2-sized hanging tapestry poster. However, neither Kotobukiya nor Atlus s international shipping outside of Japan. People who reside outside the country can place their orders on HobbyLink Japan, which can ship the figure worldwide at $120.29, although it does not seem to have any exclusive bonuses.

Kotobukiya's Metaphor: ReFantazio figure of Gallica will be available in October 2025.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Figure Update Shows Gallica, Junah, Hulkenberg

The many Kotobukiya Collection 2025 event announcements included an update on some Metaphor: ReFantazio figure designs for Gallica, Juani “Junah” Cygnus, and Eiselin Burchelli Meijal Hulkenberg. No release windows are available for any of them yet. However, the Gallica one is the furthest along in development. This means we could see pre-orders open for her in the next few weeks or months.

The Gallica and Hulkenberg Metaphor: ReFantazio figure announcements first showed up back in June 2024. At the time, concept art for both appeared. While Gallica’s finished figure looked pretty much identical, it seems like the pose for Hulkenberg’s is slightly different. The Junah one came up in October 2024

Two of the three figures appeared as unpainted prototypes this time. However, the Gallica one is painted this time around. The unpainted example appeared back in September 2024 for the first time. Both Hulkenberg and Junah are unpainted at the moment.

Here’s how all three are looking so far. We don't know what the bases could look like for Hulkenberg and Junah yet, but the one for Gallica already appeared below.

As a reminder, Metaphor: ReFantazio isn’t just a game now. It’s also a manga. The first chapter debuted on January 20, 2025 worldwide, and the next one launches on February 19, 2025.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is out on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC worldwide.

Atlus shared an update on its Metaphor: ReFantazio Character Election popularity poll, and Strohl is winning it at the moment.

Back in December 2024, Atlus kicked off a Metaphor: ReFantazio Character Election popularity poll that tasked visitors with voting for their favorite characters, and the latest video update shared that Leon Strohl da Haliaetus is currently winning as of January 17, 2025. The survey ends on January 31, 2025, at which point the “winner” will be “elected.” Voting is open at the official site now.

There are 46 possible options to vote for in the Metaphor: ReFantazio Character Election popularity poll. While the hero and his allies are all represented, so are antagonists and both major and minor NPCs. As expected, party and major characters all round out the top 10.

Here are the top ten Metaphor: ReFantazio characters in the interim results so far who appear alongside Strohl. I also noted the number of votes they had at the time the video was shared:

  1. Leon Strohl da Haliaetus - 4,637 votes
  2. Louis Guiabern - 4,408 votes
  3. Hero (aka Will) - 3,483 votes
  4. Basilio Magnus - 3,379 votes
  5. Euphausia “Eupha” Etoreika - 2,370
  6. Gallica - 2,370 votes
  7. Heismay Noctule - 2,154 votes
  8. Eiselin Burchelli Meijal Hulkenberg - 1,931 votes
  9. Fidelio Magnus - 1,290 votes
  10. Brigitta Lycaon - 1,159 votes

The only allies to not make it into the top 10 are Juani “Junah” Cygnus and Arvid Svendel Grius. Junah was at 792 votes as of the interim results announcement, while Grius was at 119. Brigitta was the only follower to make it into the top 10.

Shueisha announced we will be able to read the Metaphor: ReFantazio manga in English via MangaPlus. The series, which will also appear in V-Jump in Japan, will begin running in English on January 1, 2025.

The company shared the announcement on social media. In the reveal, it noted that chapters of the Metaphor: ReFantazio manga will release simultaneously worldwide. The image included also showed how the main character and Gallica will look in this adaptation.

When the run was first announced, we also got some details about what the first chapter will entail. It will be longer than usual and come in at 58 pages. It will also be in color, though that won’t be true of all episodes. On MangaPlus, typically the first three chapters and three most recent ones are all free for visitors to read, so everyone should be able to constantly have access to the first chapter of Metaphor: ReFantazio as long as Shueisha makes it available. We don't know how much of the story will be covered in this introduction, but presumably we'll see the hero and Gallica meet Strohl and perhaps Grius.

The Metaphor: ReFantazio manga English run will begin on January 21, 2025 on MangaPlus. The game is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC worldwide.
