Kotobukiya announced a revised release date for the two new Mega Man 11 model kits. The kits will now be releasing sometime in June 2025. They are planned to appear in every region, though we will likely see them launch first in Japan.

The Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive Mega Man model kits were originally available for pre-order on October 10, 2024. However, pre-orders were temporarily halted on November 14, 2024. No reason was provided for the suspension of orders at the time. Originally, Mega Man Scramble Thunder was set for an April 2025 release and Mega Man Pile Driver was set for a May 2025 release. They will both now be released in June 2025. Pre-orders have also resumed. It’s unclear if existing pre-orders will be maintained.

The model kits are based on the Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive variations of Mega Man from the eleventh game in the mainline series. These weapons were obtained from Fuse Man and Impact Man respectively. The Scramble Thunder variation is a green and black color with a helmet decorated with electrical coils. The Pile Drive variation is an orange and black construction site aesthetic. Both model kits are available to pre-order from Kotobukiya for ¥8,580 each. The completed figures are around 5 inches tall.

The Pile Drive and Scramble Thunder Mega Man kits are the latest in a long line of Mega Man kits from Kotobukiya. These range from standard versions of Mega Man in his standard Mega Buster form to a large range based on the Mega Man X subseries.

The Mega Man 11 Kotobukiya Pile Drive and Scramble Thunder model kits are available for pre-order now. They will release sometime in June 2025.

Mega Man 11 Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive model kits by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya has opened pre-orders for two new plastic model kits based on Capcom's Mega Man 11. These kits will separately feature Mega Man in his Scramble Thunder and Pile Driver versions. Both of them will have the same price tag of 8,580 yen (~$57.55).

These kits will depict Mega Man in two of the special weapon versions that appeared in the classic series' eleventh mainline entry. In the original game, Mega Man can get the Scramble Thunder by defeating Fuse Man and the Pile Driver set by clearing Impact Man's stage.

Even though Kotobukiya listed the kits as non-scale, they should be interchangeable with not only each other but also the regular Mega Man kit released in 2023. The Pile Driver set will have an overall height of around 13.5 cm (~5.31 inches). The Scramble Thunder kit will be taller at 14.7 cm (~5.79 inches) due to the helmet's shape. Each kit will also come with a different set of facial expression parts.

These Mega Man 11 model kits have been under development for quite some time. Kotobukiya had previously shared sample images of unpainted prototypes for the two kits in February 2024. The company has since published newer sample images with the prototypes already fully painted, which also signify that both kits are ready for pre-orders.

Kotobukiya will release the Mega Man 11 Scramble Thunder model kit first in April 2025. The Pile Driver Mega Man model kit will follow the month after in May 2025.

Mega Man Sigma and Bass Exe model kits under development by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya will produce and release even more plastic model kits modeled after Capcom's Mega Man metaseries. The company newly revealed at Kotobukiya Collection 2024 that it will produce new model kits of Sigma from the Mega Man X series and Bass.EXE from the Battle Network series. It also unveiled new prototypes of kits based on special weapon variants from Mega Man 11 and Mega Man X3. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The Mega Man franchise kits of Sigma and Bass.EXE are still in a very early development phase, so Kotobukiya has yet to share any prototype samples for either character. It instead published unpainted prototypes of the weapon variant Mega Men.

Two of them are the Scramble Thunder and Pile Driver, both of which came from Mega Man 11. In the original game, Mega Man would obtain the weapons by defeating Fuse Man and Impact Man, respectively. The other unpainted prototype features Mega Man X in Max Armor with the Triad Thunder weapon obtained from destroying Volt Catfish in Mega Man X3. A painted prototype of Black Zero, who debuted in Mega Man X4, completes the new lineup.

People who reside in Tokyo, Japan, can visit the plastic model kit exhibition on the 5th floor of Kotobukiya's Akihabara store to take a direct look at the new Mega Man model kit prototypes. The exhibition also includes kits that have been already announced or even released, such as the regular Mega Man from Mega Man 11 and MegaMan.EXE, and Roll.EXE from Battle Network. The Kotobukiya Collection 2024 event will run until February 4, 2024.

(Thanks, Expansive DLC!) At the moment, the free Mega Man 11 Wily Numbers Instrumental Stage Tracks DLC is only showing up in a few storefronts. On the Xbox Store, it is there. (That product page even noted, “This pre-order bonus DLC is not available for separate purchase. It may become available at a later date.”) The European PlayStation Store listing is also live. However, it is not showing up on the North American PlayStation Store, Steam, or the eShop yet. If someone gets the Mega Man 11 Wily Numbers Instrumental Stage Tracks, they have the option to switch to eight alternate versions of the songs. Each one is a piano arrangement. Back when the preorder promotion was first announced, Capcom released the following trailer to offer a sample of each track. Mega Man 11 is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Capcom and Red Bull announced today that they are teaming up to have Mega Man promote the Red Bull Crashed Ice skating sports event that will be held for the first time in Japan in Yokohama this year. A special site has been created for the collaboration, with a minigame playable via web browser on smartphones or PC here. In it, you play as Mega Man ice skating against Mega Man 11’s Tundra Man in a race to the goal. E-Tanks won’t save you here, as touching anything is a one-hit kill in this race. Instead, a new R-Tank (Red Bull) will transform Mega Man’s look and literally give him wings that speed him up and give unlimited strength to keep dashing. By beating Tundra Man, you unlock a second Extreme difficulty against Air Man. By playing the minigame and tweeting out your time, you can enter a lucky draw for a six-pack of Red Bull, a clear folder with Mega Man’s new design, and maybe even a copy of Mega Man 11 for PlayStation 4. Finally, Mega Man 11 will be featured as part of a tournament at the Red Bull Monday Night Streaks event at Red Bull Gaming Sphere Tokyo. Mega Man 11 is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Capcom has unveiled a developer interview with Mega Man 11’s producer, Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, who has worked on the series since Mega Man 7. In particular, he talked about finding the balance between appealing to old fans and a new audience. Here are the highlights: Is there anything in particular you had to keep in mind while making Mega Man 11, the first new game in quite a while? Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, Producer: “The series has a long history overflowing with rich scenarios, however, we made sure to avoid creating something that directly relied on this history. We couldn’t allow the project to become a game made by us old guys for other old guys. We told the development team that this was a clean slate, and that we were going to rebuild it from the ground up with that in mind.” Was that a difficult task? Tsuchiya: “We told them that as long as they held to that condition, they were free to interpret it and tweak it as they saw fit. We didn’t want to restrict them too severely—everyone on the development team is a professional, after all, and they all have their own unique methods of approaching a problem. I had high hopes that they would find interesting solutions that I hadn’t imagined.” Can you think of any specific things where you thought “wow, this is more than I could have hoped for">Siliconera.

Mega Man 11 is a bit on the shorter side, but that length is supposedly bolstered by the extra Challenge Mode. Here's an introduction to what they offer, and whether they're worth the time.

The post Mega Man 11’s Challenges Are Fun, But Don’t Last Long appeared first on Siliconera.

<![CDATA[

By now, at least a few people have beaten Mega Man 11 and realized that the most contentious part of this latest game is probably the game length. The game feels perfect for the most part, in of balance, but it does seem to end earlier than it should, which isn’t helped by some of the later stages being on the shorter end. According to the development team, the challenges are meant to be the main method of increasing replayability and game length.

Spoiler warning: As the challenges are meant to be a post-game extra mode, I will be going a little bit into spoiler territory.

So how do they fare? As you may have judged from the title, they’re perfectly fine, but won’t take long to wear out the welcome – especially if you’re not the type to chase after high scores or the best time.

rockman 11 challenges 2

rockman 11 challenges 1

The first time I went full tryhard on a time trial, I got beaten within two days after the game’s official launch.

Basically, the challenges mostly come down to time trials in the various stages, but with different stipulations for each category. There’s the basic time trial, where the goal is to get to the end as fast as possible, but other categories add in options like Minimum Jumps or Minimum Attacks in an attempt to change up how you play through a stage.

Here’s the thing though – these stages don’t change in of layout or enemy placement. It doesn’t feel like a refreshing change, but rather is more of a side mission. Personally, I’d liken it to playing as DLC characters in games like Blaster Master Zero or Mighty Gunvolt Burst, in that it is superfluously different, but ultimately just another run through the game.

rockman 11 challenges 3

Perhaps this is why one of the main enjoyments of the Challenges comes from the new Balloon Attack mode, where every enemy is removed in favor of red and blue balloons. You are judged by your time in your trek through the stage, with red balloons adding 10 seconds to your timer, and missing any blue balloon on that screen will cost 30 seconds.

It forces you to access the options available without hitting red balloons or missing blue balloons, and use Rush and the special weapons at ideal times. The platforming is the main focus, and some of the later levels come out with devious ways to make you pop that extra red balloon. It’s fun, and changes up the way you progress in a much more natural way.

rockman 11 challenges 4

Another challenge I enjoyed, to some extent, were the Medal Collector missions, where you need to collect Plates with Mega Man and his family’s faces on them while completing a stage. While enemies are back, I had fun trying to reach these cutesy plates, with some that really require some strategic thinking.

It also harkens back to the older Mega Man games, where there would be collectibles such as BEAT or MEGAMAN 5 letters that could unlock new weapon abilities. The Mega Man X games had heart tanks, Mega Man Zero had Cyber Elves, and so on. Collectibles are missing in the main game of Mega Man 11, so it was nice to see them being represented in some form.

rockman 11 challenges 5

The Playground is full of challenge runs that aren’t ranked worldwide. There are awkward modes such as trying to bounce an enemy without touching the ground as many times as possible, or pushing back an enemy as far as you can within a time limit, but there are also some neat options, such as a mode where you need to defeat as many common enemies using their weakness as possible.

There are also separate challenges against mid-bosses and bosses, meaning you can practice your timing, especially if you’re going for the main time trials. If you’re going to practice the Wily Stage bosses, do it here. Oh, and the Boss Rush mode is basically what it says on the tin.

rockman 11 challenges 6

rockman 11 challenges 7

Finally, we have Dr. Light’s Trial, easily the best part of the Challenges, and one that I’ll it that I haven’t beaten yet. It basically takes a page out of the recent Mario games, and acts as the final challenge of Mega Man 11. Mega Man is put through 30 different consecutive mini-levels one one health bar and full special weapon bars, and dying once means you start over from the beginning. It’s the very definition of tough love.

Dr. Light’s Trial tests every bit of mettle you have as a Mega Man player, and you’re pitted against enemy combinations not seen in the main game, tough bosses, and even the health and weapon energy refills are a scramble against time thanks to Evil Eddie. Also, Bounce Man’s stage balloons are the bane of my existence. If you complete this challenge, you’re definitely worthy of being called a master of Mega Man.

Overall, the challenges only really offer as much as what you value. If you don’t really like time trials, the Challenges aren’t really going to give you much in of unique content that feels worth your time. However, do try out Balloon Attack, and if you have the skill and guts, man, take on Dr. Light’s Trial for a final challenge.

Food for Thought:

1. Your right thumb is going to be sore from all the frantic special weapon switching you will be doing in the time trials. But that also really speaks to one of Mega Man 11’s greatest QOL improvements.

2. I haven’t found the right place to talk about it, but the music in Mega Man 11 ranges from okay to mindblowingly good, with Wily Stage’s theme being among the absolute highlights. While it seems people are iffy on the soundtrack, personally I believe it’s because of the soundfont and not the melodies themselves, which are quite amazing. Only time will tell, but I hope eventual arrangements and remixes will vindicate my opinion.

Mega Man 11 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of October 1 to October 7, 2018. The #1 spot of the week went to Super Mario Party with 142,868 units sold for the Nintendo Switch. This is the best debut for the Mario Party series since Mario Party 9 which sold 152,883 units on the Wii back in 2012. At #2 we have Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with 45,166 units sold on PS4, which is close to last year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins which sold 49,419 units back in November. Warriors Orochi 4 continues selling with 24,005 units on PS4 to chart #3 in its second week. The next new title of the week is Mega Man 11 which sold 14,650 units on Nintendo Switch to chart at #4 and 12,052 units on PS4 to chart #7. Combined, the game sold 26,702 units between the two. While it might not be anywhere near the mega sales we saw from Mega Man games in the past, we can’t give it a proper comparison with previous entries in the series as it was the first retail release at launch since Mega Man 8 for PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Other new titles of the week include Sumikko Gurashi Atsumare! Sumikko Town which sold 5,221 units on Switch to chart at #16 and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission with 4,963 units sold on PS4 to chart at #17. In hardware sales, we’re seeing a slight drop in PlayStation sales after having strong two month streak of PS4 titles in the #1 spot dating back to early-August’s retail release of Minecraft on Switch. The PlayStation 4 console sold 11,575 units and an additional 2,490 units from the PS4 Pro model to total 14,065 units. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console with 45,762 units sold in the week to make up about 64.6% of all hardware sold. Going by Media Create’s figures, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 5,100,881 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017. The top-20 chart of the week is as follows:

It basically removed all the obstacles sans instant death spikes out of the way of finishing a stage, and also made it obvious to players that they were playing the easier difficulty. It’s like I Wanna Be The Guy making The Kid wear a pink bow in Medium difficulty. On the other hand, Mega Man 11 does have a lot of saving features for newcomers to the genre, but lets new players try out the platforming challenges for themselves, making it so that going from Newcomer to Casual, for example, doesn’t mean a sudden difficulty spike. rockman 11 newcomer mode 2 rockman 11 newcomer mode 3 For example, Newcomer Mode has Beat on-call at all times, in order to fish Mega Man out of death pits. Meanwhile, spikes will hurt, but not kill Mega Man. Do these offer an easier option for players? They do, but they get to learn how to properly take on the challenge of the stage, instead of skipping the challenge altogether. It takes the punishment of the regular difficulty and turns it into a cautionary tale. There are also some subtle differences that aren’t noticed at first glance. For example, Mega Man’s shots are no longer limited to three on screen at a time, while the Double Gear system is takes longer to fill up and cools down quicker, enhancing Mega Man’s capabilities while leaving room to experiment freely. Items drop more easily, and some regular item pick ups turn into better versions. Checkpoints are also plentiful, meaning that instead of being set back half a stage, now you’re set back every other room. Again, this is an example of lessening the punishment without losing sight of teaching people how to play. rockman 11 newcomer mode 4 Jumping from Newcomer to Casual Mode, I found that while some of Newcomer Mode’s features were kept, Mega Man is back to a three-shot limit, and that instant kills such as spikes and pits now will work as intended. However, it still provides nearly as many checkpoints as Newcomer Mode, and still keeps an increased item drop rate. I found it to be the much-needed middle ground that was missing between Easy and Normal difficulty that was missing last time. Overall, I’d say subtlety is key: I find that making it less obvious you’re playing Easy Mode, such as even the act of naming it Newcomer Mode instead, lessens the mental barrier around choosing such a mode. Mega Man 11’s Newcomer and Casual Modes provide a great way to try out the series’ traditional platforming challenges, without just completely cutting them out altogether. Mega Man 11 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A demo is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
