Aniplex confirmed yet another returning magical girl will be a playable character in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra, as Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story anime’s Sana Futaba will appear in the game. Pre-registrations also ed 900,000, which means the fan kit now includes A-Q, Name, and Nighthawk. 

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer that hints at what it will be like to use Sana Futaba in-battle in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra. In her original appearance, she wished she would be ignored and invisible. As such, a lot of her abilities are defensive. We see her summon a shield, which she uses to hide and attack in the footage. 

Aniplex also confirmed that Yui Ogura will return as the character in the game. She’s also known as the voice of March 7th in Honkai: Star Rail, Shiroko Sunaookami in Blue Archive, Feri Al-Fayed in Trails Through Daybreak, and Shiori in Rent-a-Girlfriend. During the video, we hear her talk about Iroha, Ai, and her feelings toward them.

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica series is one of the most beloved pieces of magical girl media in existence. Its dark and often surprisingly twisted concept is the ultimate deconstruction of the genre. The free-to-play smartphone game has typical mobile turn-based gameplay, with auto battles, different magical girls to collect, and the like. It stands out, though, because of its worthy story and great 2D graphics reminiscent of Shaft’s incredible work on the original series.

There are some goofy and weird elements to this series, but it lands decently enough as a whole. It is pretty short, too, with only a few volumes to read. It tells a succinct and fascinating enough tale about magical girls and witches.

If you want the best manga side story of this series, Oriko is the one to pick up. Once again, it centers on a new magical girl the series hasn’t seen before. At the same time, though, it brings back some fan-favorite characters like Mami, who tragically didn’t get as much screen time as they deserved in the original series.

If you don’t mind playing in Japanese (or using a fan translation), there is a video game adaptation of Madoka Magica for the PSP. It interestingly enough plays as a dungeon crawler RPG-meets-visual novel. This is a must-play for fans of the series, as it has routes for all of the main magical girls, including ones like Homura, Mami, and Sayaka. You can even change the fates of some of them and see extra story content.

Aniplex has announced that it will gradually close the Japanese releases of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story in July 2024. The PC version that has been available on DMM Games will cease first on July 1, 2024. The iOS and Android mobile releases will follow suit at the end of the month on July 31, 2024. [Thanks, Gamer.]

The company added that it will temporarily publish an offline archive version until October 14, 2024. Players who have accessed the Japanese version of Magia Record will be able to review the content they have obtained during the game's lifespan.

The Japanese mobile release of Magia Record appeared first in August 2017. The PC version followed later on in April 2019. While Aniplex also released international versions of the game, none of them lasted as long as the Japanese release. The English version notably only lasted barely past a year from June 2019 until October 2020.

In its announcement, Aniplex also revealed that the entry Magia Exedra will replace Magia Record. Even though the company has yet to specify the new game's release date beyond the 2024 window, it teased that existing Magia Record players will be able to carry over some of their play data to the new game. The offline archive version of Magia Record will contain a unique serial code for each player, and they will be able to input it in Magia Exedra.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story is available in Japan until July 1, 2024, for the PC version, and July 31, 2024, for the iOS and Android releases.

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica scene0 prequel to the anime series will be available to play within the Japanese version of smartphone game Magia Record from October 3, 2023. A new reveal trailer for the new storyline was also released, and it features Mabayu Aki as the protagonist of the scene0 storyline. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The new storyline was revealed on Magia Day 2023, which celebrated the 6th anniversary of the release of Magia Records. Vio Shimokura from Nitroplus is in charge of writing scene0. Additionally, GLOW performs "Shiyui" as the theme song for the new Puella Magi Madoka Magica scene0 story.

The new story features Mabayu Aki as the protagonist. Aki is a character that should have been part of the original anime series. The new story will explore the character, and why her existence has been erased.

Saori Hayami voices Mabayu Aki in the game. Hayami is well known for voicing Yor Forger in Spy × Family, Yamato in One Piece, and Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

As a reminder, the English version of Magia Record shut down on September 29, 2020. However, fans of the game can still experience the story thanks to the Magia Record anime adaptation. The anime has three seasons, and they are available for streaming on Funimation, Crunchyroll, and HIDIVE.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story just took an important step toward offering people a means of preserving memories of the mobile game. The Magia Record gallery update is live. Should people get version 1.2.0 of the app and video data by October 30, 2020, they’ll still be able to see all the characters after October 31, 2020.

Back in August 2020, Aniplex announced it would be shutting down the English version of the game. However, it then offered a stay of execution as it prepared a Gallery Mode that would allow people to still see all of the Magia Record characters they had collected after the end. While people waited and to help them make the most of their final days, it offered ten daily Fate Weave Tickets to all players.

As for the gallery itself, you need to the update and then open the game. Once you do, you will need to video data from the Video Settings section under Settings and Manage Data. This will let you then see the characters and their Magical Girl transformations in the Magia Record gallery even after the game ends this month.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story is currently available on Android and Apple iOS devices worldwide. However, the English version of the game will be closed at 11:59pm PT on October 30, 2020 and shift to an offline Gallery for people who ed version 1.2.0 before that cut-off point.

At least, it might feel that way if you're playing Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, the magical girl mobile game. The Magia Record English version will be shutting down on September 29, 2020, according to an announcement on the game's official website.

The announcement thanked players for their and noted the exact time of the shutdown: 11:59 PM PDT on September 29th, 2020. Magia Stones will still be purchasable until September 10, but can't be refunded. No "carryover" for English -holder who want to keep playing on the Japanese server was announced.

Magia Record exits the competitive world of mobile gacha games roughly fifteen months after its English-language debut in June 2019. The original Japanese version of the game launched in 2017. The game is a spin-off of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, a magical girl series animated by Studio SHAFT and written by Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Psycho-). In its world, the city of Kamihama continues to be menaced by witches and magical girls oppose them. Iroha Tamaki became a magical girl to find a way to help her sister, who's gone missing.

Magia Record also hosted many other magical girls, including characters from the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica cast. Players could acquire new magical girls by summoning them with currency, and the game operated on a gacha-style system that awarded new characters by semi-random chance.

Magia Record also received an anime series adaptation, which is currently airing Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story has finally received a global release, giving people worldwide a chance to experience another story set within the Puella Magi Madoka Magica world. (As well as present itself as a contender for “Longest Game Title of 2019.”) While another game like this might have people wondering if it’s another opportunity for new systems to learn and concepts to grasp, this is turn-based RPG that should feel rather familiar from the outset. Namely, it’s a lot like Fate/Grand Order and games that attempted to mimic its formula, like Revue Starlight Re Live.

Fate/Grand Order is a game made by DELiGHTWORKS and published by Aniplex, while Magia Record is a f4samurai game also published by Aniplex. The two of them feeling familiar shouldn’t come as too much a shock. Especially since they, and Ateam’s Revue Starlight: Re Live all follow the format of having visual novel segments telling the story between RPG battles with preset teams you arrange ahead of time. It’s tending to be a common thread in mobile games, which means it can help with determining if you might like Magia Record or would have trouble adapting to it.

In Magia Record, you are building up a team of Magical Girls to fight the many, many Witches and their Familiars in Kamihama City. You start out with Iroha, but gradually get to fill your ranks typically through, you guessed it, gacha. Characters start out at different ranks, though you can improve them with hard work and collected materials. Essentially, it’s the same sort of system you see in many, many mobile RPGs.

Both Magia Record and Fate/Grand Order follow a system where for each turn, players select three actions from a pool of possible actions your party can perform. The former uses Disks, while the latter has Command Cards. There are three types for each, and getting a chain of the same time of action or actions from the same character can trigger combos, which have effects like increasing damage or increasing charges. Characters also have skills, which they can use in a fight to trigger certain abilities.

While Fate/Grand Order has Arts (to deal normal damage and majorly boost NP), Buster (to deal more damage than usual, at the cost of NP and stars), and Quick (to get significantly more stars, at the cost of less damage), Magia Record is a bit different. Accele Disks boost MP, Blast will deal damage to all enemies in a horizontal or vertical row (an icon shows which), and Charge will boost the damage or MP of a Blast or Accele attack after it. While using three of the same kind at once is very beneficial, the nature of it means that Puella Combos, which have three actions from the same heroine, but could involve three different discs, can be incredibly effective. But, since Blast attacks hit a whole line of enemies, it could be wiser to avoid a combo if you have a party that you know could take out a whole group of enemies in a single turn with the right Blast attacks.

However, like Revue Starlight: Re Live, positioning can be a big deal in Magia Record. While in that game, it is about picking people for your party and having the game assign them automatically to positions based on the role they were designed to play, Magia Record requires actual effort on the part of the player. It involves Magical Formations. When you put together a party, you determine where your up to five heroines stand. Placement determines which magical girl will receive buffs when in certain positions. (So, if you have someone who is a three-star Magical Girl or higher when starting out, make sure she’s getting the buffs.) These formations also determine who might be most likely to be targeted. Plus, you can swap places during a fight, if someone looks like they are in danger or would be better in a different place.

Just like both Fate/Grand Order and Revue Starlight: Re Live, Magia Record has special summon items you can equip to characters to improve their abilities and provide bonuses in battle. While these are Craft Essences in the former and Memoirs, Magia Record has Memoria. These can be leveled up, improved, and ascended, just like the Magical Girls you recruit. When you get one, it clearly says when its ability will be available. For example, the “I Won’t Stray” Memoria will have Bloom Rise V, which gives attack up V and defense up IV for three turns to the the one character using it, and it will be available after nine turns. Unlike the other games, there are no caps that force you to level up and improve before you can start using a certain number of characters or equipping Memoria. If you have Magical Girls and open slots on them, you can load them up right away.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story is a very easy game to get into. It has lots of familiar concepts and conditions. If you have played similar mobile RPGs with visual novel elements, you’ll have no problem adjusting. Especially if you already have been going through Fate/Grand Order or Revue Starlight: Re Live. Though, if you are already playing one or both of those games, that might make this one a little bit more of the same. Still, it’s interesting enough, with some small changes that could make it more appealing for people in search of a new free-to-play diversion.

The English release date for Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story has been revealed. Aniplex USA has revealed people can start playing it on Android and Apple iOS devices starting on June 25, 2019. Google Play and iTunes preorders are both open for the free-to-play game.

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story follows a magical girl named Iroha Tamaki. She formed a contract after her little sister, Ui, fell ill. However, after becoming a magical girl, Ui disappeared. From what Iroha can tell she is in Kamihama City. Once she got there, she encountered Homura Akemi, from the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Homura is looking for a way to save Madoka, so the two end up ing forces.

A preregistration program is currently in effect for Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story. Aniplex USA is keeping track of how many people preorder. There are 5,000, 10,000, 15,000, and 20,000 tiers. If the first three tiers are met, each one will award 50 Magia Stones to players. If 20,000 sign up, everyone will receive Homura Akemi (Glasses).

Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, a mobile spinoff of the hit magical girl show Puella Magi Madoka Magica that released in 2017, was announced at SakuraCon to be coming Westwards in Summer 2019.

Aniplex of America will be handling the translation and localization. The game features new characters, such as the protagonist Iroha Tamaki, as well as many returning characters from the anime.

In Iroha’s case, she became a Magical Girl in order to cure her sister Ui’s illness, and when Ui goes missing, she heads to Kamihama in order to search for her. Iroha is a cheerful and earnest girl who sometimes pays too much attention to other people’s needs.
