After many long years of exclusivity on feature phones in Japan, an anonymous made Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Lost Chronicle available for all regions. They’re both only in Japanese at the moment, but Bluesky “ValakTurtle” is working on an English translation patch, and a translation patch should be ready in a few months. [Thanks, RockmanCosmo!]

Xenosaga: Pied Piper originally came out in 2004 through Vodafone live. You could play it on your mobile phone and pay 525 JPY ($3.50 today) to play each chapter. This business model meant that it never appeared outside of Japan. As for the story, it takes place about a century prior to Xenosaga Episode I. The focus of the story involves how Ziggurat became the cyborg he is in the main trilogy. He's the primary focus, so don't expect to see many other characters.

Lost Chronicle, like Xenosaga: Pied Piper, is another mobile-only title from Bandai Namco. It came out in 2008 for NTT Docomo devices, and was a fantasy RPG spanning about twenty hours. You could play it for a monthly fee of 315 JPY ($2.10 today).

Both Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Lost Chronicle are now preserved via emulation, and a fan translation for Pied Piper is in the works. The console games in the series are available worldwide on the PS2.
