Amazon announced it will be the streaming home of Look Back, the movie based on the one-shot manga by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. We’ll be able to watch it next month starting on November 7, 2024. An Amazon Prime subscription will be required. 

Look Back follows two students named Fujino and Kyomoto who love creating manga. While the two start out close while in school, events end up leading to the two growing apart as they get older and their goals shift. However, events cause the two to become involved in each others’ lives again.

The film recently appeared in theaters outside Japan. GKids announced a limited run of it in October 2024. Showings only appeared between October 6-7, 2024.

Look Back isn’t the only one-shot manga and story by Tatsuki Fujimoto, as the Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch mangaka created a number of others both before and after his two long-running series. Goodbye Eri appeared after Look Back, with the manga available worldwide. Viz Media also released the compilations Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man: 17–21 and Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man: 22–26 outside Japan. These are collections that gather multiple past stories the author created together.

The movie Look Back will be streaming on Amazon Prime starting on November 7, 2024. The manga is available outside Japan via Viz Media.

The Look Back anime film based on the Tatsuki Fujimoto manga is headed to movie theaters in the US on October 6-7, 2024. following an early release in select venues on October 4, 2024. This comes after it debuted in Japan in June 2024. 

Look Back is the story of two young women who aspire to become mangaka and create their own original manga series. The two meet while in school together. While Fujino is the more talented of the two, causing a complex in Kyomoto, the two eventually are drawn together and become close. The story follows the growth of their art and relationship from elementary school until college, and the effect the two have on each others’ lives.

The official GKids site offers information on buying tickets for showings. It seems only ones for the showings on October 6-7, 2024 are available. Prices vary depending on the theater selected. The options shown note that only the Japanese dub with English subtitles will be available. 

Look Back first appeared as a manga back in 2021, before the one shot was turned into a movie. This came after creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s other works Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch. As a result of its success, physical copies were released. 

The Look Back anime adaptation will be in US movie theaters in New York City, New York and Los Angeles, California on October 4, 2024, then throughout the country between October 6-7, 2024. The manga was released in English via Viz Media.

Shonen Jump Plus announced that the free one-shot manga Look Back reached over 2.5 million views in a single day. It broke the site's record for most views in a single day. Additionally, publisher Shueisha will release a print version of the Look Back manga on September 3, 2021 for ¥484 (about $4.42).

Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of the Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch series, created the 145-page short manga along with several prominent Shonen Jump Plus artists. The story follows the lives of two elementary school students with a ion for manga and their journey to become professional artists in the manga industry. It deals with themes such as creative rivalry, loss, and the regret that comes with looking back on the past.

After its release on July 19, 2021, Japanese social media was abuzz with praise for the one-shot's emotional storytelling, reaching the top trends on Twitter for the day. Artists such as Solanin's Inio Asano, contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara were among many prominent figures that discussed the manga's heartfelt themes.

According to Shueisha's official website, the print version of the manga will release in Japan on September 3, 2021. While there are listings for Look Back on the Japanese Amazon storefront, it is currently unconfirmed whether the manga will receive a global print release.

Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of popular manga series Chainsaw Man, has released a new oneshot manga titled Look Back. The oneshot follows two students with a ion for manga as they strive to become professional artists. Look Back is currently available to read in English for free on Viz Media's website as well as Shueisha's Manga Plus.

The 145-page short story follows two elementary school students who start drawing four- comics in their school newspaper. The story touches on topics such as creative rivalry, growth as an artist, and the inability to change the past. The oneshot is seemingly unrelated to Chainsaw Man in of worldbuilding. Nevertheless, it serves as an emotional coming-of-age story that is almost semi-autobiographical in nature.

Fujimoto's "younger sister" also took to Twitter to thank the artists who helped create the oneshot manga in her brother's stead, many of whom have worked on other Shonen Jump+ series and oneshots such as Dandadan and Doctor Mermaid. Look Back even includes references to Chainsaw Man and Fujimoto's past works in the form of background art.

A Chainsaw Man anime adaptation was announced back in December 2020, with Jujutsu Kaisen studio MAPPA producing. MAPPA also shared a teaser trailer for the anime last month, giving fans some brief glimpses at the series' signature gore and action sequences in a blend of 2D and 3D animation.
