Kingdom Hearts series Director Tetsuya Nomura appeared during the 2oth anniversary event and answered several questions during a special Q&A segment. Questions ranged from talking about fan reception and how it's influenced the series, to greater mysteries within the Kingdom Hearts universe. However, Nomura also answered a question concerning the two different endings to the Kingdom Hearts 3 ReMIND DLC. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

At the end of the DLC, players receive different cutscenes depending on if they emerge victorious from the final fight. Nomura elaborated on why this choice was made and what it contributes to the overall narrative of Kingdom Hearts. This is what he had to say:

"Yozora is so strong that players probably won't be able to win. So I thought it would be better for players to see something even when they lose. It doesn't mean much in of the story."

Nomura also answered a question concerning the Keyblade Riku gave to Kairi in Kingdom Hearts 2, mentioning that he will elaborate on how Riku came to acquire it in the future. Additionally, Nomura also revealed why Roxas and Xion made a return in Kingdom Hearts 3. He states that it was largely due to fans feeling strongly about the characters, as he had already written a story route without either character reappearing.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In it, Director Tetsuya Nomura answered several questions concerning changes made throughout the series and addressed several ongoing mysteries in Kingdom Hearts. However, he also revealed that fan input impacted the decision for characters like Roxas and Xion to reappear in Kingdom Hearts 3. Regarding character designs, Nomura mentions that Riku received a new hairstyle after Kingdom Hearts 2 because of fan reception. This was due to the sheer number of fans talking about his hair. However, shortly after, Nomura states that this wasn't the only thing that changed because of the fans. He goes on to talk about the fate of Roxas and Xion in Kingdom Hearts, and why they reappeared in the story. This is what Nomura had to say:

"Regarding Roxas and Xion reappearing Kingdom Hearts 3, I was hesitant up until the very end about bringing them back, and even had a story route where they would not return. However, since I knew that the fans would want to see these characters again, I went with the route where they would return."

Alongside the Q&A segment, trailers for Kingdom Hearts 4 and Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link were revealed at the 20th anniversary event. Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link will be an all-new mobile title set within the Kingdom Hearts universe. And while an announcement trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 was shown, a release date was not revealed.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Square Enix will release a tote bag for Kingdom Hearts 3, featuring plushes of Sora and King Mickey on it. Pre-orders are already open. The bag costs 11,000 JPY at the Japanese store and $99.99 at the North American one. It has a release window of June 2022 for Japan and October 2022 for North America. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

For those who think the two plushes are too big or worry about them getting dirty, you can remove them from the Kingdom Hearts 3 tote bag. You can also swap them around if you have a certain preference. In addition, the loops used to hang the dolls can double as a place for you to hang items such as water bottles.

Other new pieces of Kingdom Hearts merchandise from the Square Enix e-Store include suitcases of the five main Keyblade wielders. Each trunk case costs $549.99 and will come out in September 2022. However, these trunks are slightly larger than some airlines’ carry-on size requirements. So those who wish to travel with them may need to check their airline in advance.

The Kingdom Hearts 3 tote bag is available to pre-order from the Square Enix e-Store. It will come out in June 2022 for Japanese customers and October 2022 for North American ones.

Hikaru Utada released a new remix video for "Face My Fears," which serves as the main theme for Kingdom Hearts 3. The music video premiered exclusively through the musician's YouTube . It features several key scenes from Kingdom Hearts 3, including major spoilers for story events in the title. The new "Face My Fears" remix was done in collaboration with A.G. Cooks and arrives just as the Kingdom Hearts series arrives on Nintendo Switch through its cloud system.

This new version of the song first appeared on Utada's album Bad Mode as a bonus track. Shortly after, it was announced that a music video for "Face My Fears" remix would appear on YouTube with scenes from Kingdom Hearts 3. The original version of the song was made in collaboration with Skrillex. While both versions of the song have a more electronic sound, this version sounds significantly different.

In January 2019, consumers could purchase a Face My Fears EP, which included the English and Japanese version of "Face My Fears." It also included "Don't Think Twice," which is another song that appears in the game.

Microsoft announced Sora's Xbox Game adventures are at an end, as Kingdom Hearts 3 will leave the service. People can play it until January 15, 2022. After that, it will be removed.

This means that by the end of the month, there will be no Kingdom Hearts games on Xbox Game . Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue left the service in May 2021. Between those collections, people had access to every past mainline game and spin-off that appeared prior to Kingdom Hearts 3.

These are the new games coming to Xbox Game in January 2022.

• January 4th: Gorogoa (Cloud, Console, and PC), Olija (Cloud, Console, and PC), and The Pedestrian (Cloud, Console, and PC)

SSBU Director Masahiro Sakurai announced that several Kingdom Hearts ports will arrive on the Nintendo Switch during the final Super Smash Bros Ultimate broadcast. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be available to play as cloud versions. This means all mainline games will be available. More details will be available in the future.

During the announcement, PlayStation 4 footage of the games was shown. There is currently no available footage of how the Kingdom Hearts compilations and Kingdom Hearts III Nintendo Switch ports will look.

This information was revealed at the tail end of the broadcast. The majority of the presentation was dedicated to the reveal of Sora being the final Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC character. The presentation featured a look at his move set, and the new stage that will appear through his inclusion into the title. Additionally, several songs from Kingdom Hearts will be added into the game.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III will arrive on Nintendo Switch sometime in the future. All three titles are immediately available for PlayStation 4.

Kingdom Hearts 3 isn’t being worked on by the original Kingdom Hearts team. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura himself is busy on Final Fantasy XV.

Instead, Kingdom Hearts 3 is being developed by Square Enix’s Osaka studio, the publisher revealed this morning at a Q&A. The Osaka studio worked on Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and are also working on Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix.

Square Enix also confirmed that, like Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3 makes use of Direct X 11.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will feature a mature Sora who will adventure with Mickey, Donald and Goofy and visit unseen new worlds, Square Enix and Disney said at a presentation in Los Angeles this morning.

Kingdom Hearts has sold over 19 million copies to date, Disney revealed, stating that the franchise is important to them beyond games in toys, music and books.

The two companies then stated that Kingdom Hearts 3 will be available for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well, just like Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy has always been the centre of attention, with many varying opinions, Matsuda said, and that Square Enix would like to assert the strength of the brand.

The Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Ultimania guidebook goes on sale in Japan tomorrow. However, an interview with Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura contained within has already made its way onto the net. In the interview, Nomura discusses the future of the franchise.

“About the next title, Kingdom Hearts 3 depends on Final Fantasy XIII Versus, but development of the next title is already underway. There are two titles other than Kingdom Hearts 3 in conception, and I think I’ll release one within this year.”

 

“As from next year, I want to put out a title with multiple main characters.”

Nomura goes on to suggest that KH3 won't necessarily signal the end of the franchise. Rather, Kingdom Hearts 3 will bring the Xehanort saga to an end, and Sora will still be a part of the games that follow as the "hero." He also reveals that the overseas release of Birth by Sleep will include more cutscenes than the original.
