Like Tales of Hearts before it, Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate drops technique points, a staple in most Tales games.

A chain capacity meter replaces the TP stat. See the number 5 in the screenshot? That’s the CC meter. It drops after each attack, a point for a basic hit or three if you do a special move like Gengetsuga where Keroro temporarily transforms into a samurai.

Each attack fills up the blazing rise meter, the blue bar underneath the HP meter. When the BR meter is full you can press L and activate a mode where you can attack relentlessly without worrying about your CC meter.

I tried a demo of Keroro RPG’s system and aside from the lack of TP it feels just like a Tales game. Seeing Keroro leap into the air for a multi-hit spinning sword slash called F-hornet is pretty amusing too. This frog can fight. You can switch to Keroro’s allies by opening the menu and pressing L to change characters. Kululu acts like a magic armed with cure spells and magic missiles which he can fire out of a DS-like device.

Like Tales of Hearts, Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate has Namco cameos. Pac-Man and Haseo from .hack://G.U. make appearances in this Nintendo DS game.

All of the Namco guests are characters that Keroro can call in battle by selecting them on the touch screen. The list includes modern Namco stars like the Prince of Cosmos and Wada-Don from Taiko no Tatsujin plus nostalgic characters such as Valkyrie, Dig Dug, and Wonder Momo.

Look for Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate on March 4 when it comes out in Japan.

Tales of Graces just got on the market and there’s already another Tales game to look forward to. Well, kind of. Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate is made by the Tales team and borrows the trademark linear motion battle system. Basically, it’s a Tales spin off starring Sgt. Frog.

Namco Bandai announced Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate will be finished on March 4, 2010. A pictograph system was also revealed. Players can unlock over 300 treasure maps with codes consisting of five symbols. An example treasure map is below, and it looks like these secret items are going to be tough to find without them.

You know how the game’s title mentions a “legendary pirate”? Here’s a teaser image of Captain Keparou.

The picture on the left is Keroro as a warrior. His pirate and knight costumes are below.

These field screenshots show a pirate ship and a snowy area that resembles Japan. Perhaps, that’s where Keroro dons his samurai gear.

Keroro RPG borrows more than the linear motion battle system. Story scenes are told like Tales skits. While Keroro takes the spotlight, Namco Bandai says this game is intended for fans of Keroro and Tales.

The story of Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate begins with a video game that brings monsters from the game into Keroro’s world. Meanwhile, Keroro and four of his platoon friends are sent into the video game world. The “RPG” part of Keroro RPG means this game will have event scenes and some of them will have voice acting.

Similar to Tales of Hearts, Keroro will be able to call characters to help him. Since Keroro RPG is set in a video game world Namco Bandai has plenty of cameo opportunities.

Famitsu posted this trailer which is funny since the countdown site still says there are still three days to go before the reveal.

Namco Bandai’s mysterious K-Project? It’s a code name for a Keroro RPG made by the Tales Studio. Namco Bandai has been making Keroro (aka Sgt. Frog here) games since 2004, but I never imagined this combination!

Keroro RPG: The Knight, Warrior, and Legendary Pirate even uses Tales’ trademark linear motion battle system and has Tales style skits. The game is set to come out on the Nintendo DS sometime next year.
