A stage play of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has been announced. It’ll have a live band accompaniment and start airing in December 2024. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

There’s not that much information on the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 stage play at the moment. It’ll have its first performance in Tokyo some time in December 2024. Then, in January 2025, it’ll have a showing in Osaka. The dates and locations will come out some time later.

As for the cast, we only know who’ll play main characters Yuta Okkotsu and Suguru Geto. Yuki Ogoe will be Yuta. Ogoe’s previous roles include Ramon (Basshaa) in Kamen Rider Kiva and Sakamichi Onoda in live-action adaptations of Yowamushi Pedal. Ray Fujita will play Geto. Fujita previously appeared as Kitazaki (Dragon Orphnoch) in Kamen Rider 555 and Rei Suzumura (Silver Fanged Knight ZERO) in GARO.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 serves as a prequel to the main Jujutsu Kaisen series. It follows Yuta Okkotsu and his Cursed Spirit Rika, who was his childhood friend. After Gojo recruits him, Yuta s Tokyo Jujutsu Technical High and meets with Maki, Inumaki, and Panda. Geto, a sorcerer who was once Gojo’s best friend and partner, seeks to recruit Yuta to get a hold of Rika. The cinematic adaptation of the manga came out in 2021.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available for streaming on services like Crunchyroll. More information on the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 stage play will come out in the near future.

Despite feeling like it just started yesterday, the Jujutsu Kaisen is nearing its end. In fact, the manga might already be over by the time you read this if you wait until September 2024. Without a doubt, it is one of the most extraordinary shonen manga series in a long time. But I still feel the best part and arc of Jujutsu Kaisen is the beginning, consisting of arcs like Cursed Child, Fearsome Womb, and Vs. Mahito, that kicks things off..

In hindsight, the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen feels so different from the rest of the series. It initially kicks off in an almost horrific way. The weakness of Yuji Itadori against the curses he suddenly discovers is so fascinating. In addition, the gore felt so surprising and in stark contrast to the other, similar shonen series running at the time.

While elements of this introduction carried on throughout the rest of the series, such as the gory action, things eventually change. Gege Akutami pursues such a different vibe from the Kyoto Arc forward in Jujutsu Kaisen. Perhaps the greatest example of this is the more personal and focused nature of the early arcs of the series. It isn’t all about citywide destruction and unlocking new powers.

Instead, the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen that starts with the Cursed Child arc is simply about surviving excruciating missions against curses. The main characters, especially Yuji, have genuine character development due to their new circumstances. My personal favorite part of the entire series happens during the Vs. Mahito Arc. It's when the villain really appears for the first time. The initial impression is incredible, and only builds from there.

Mahito’s unhinged, terrifying nature is on full display here in a way that stings even more than his appearances later in the series. He feels like one of the most horrifying anime villains in a long time. We witness a man that is willing to massacre anyone and anything in his path. Worse still, he feels unstoppable at this point.

To make it even better, my favorite character in the series, Junpei, gets his moment here. Junpei is by far one of the most complex characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. His relationship with Yuji still feels like the most emotional for the protagonist, even as we near the end. It is here that Yuji is pushed to his limits and grows as a character in a much more natural way.

This isn’t to say there is no development for Yuji later on. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. My only issue with Jujutsu Kaisen is sometimes the character development and deaths Akutami used feel too forced or there just for shock value. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the onslaught of twists and turns.

But I also prefer the centralized nature of these early arcs. The twists in the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen are fewer and far between. This allows them breathing room to have enough attention and development. As such, they are still the most effective surprises and tragic character deaths, in my opinion.

This idea extends to Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as well. Yuta and Rika’s tale is a heartbreaking one that has the same level of focus and emotional resonance as the early parts of the main series. It isn’t to say that I don’t love Jujutsu Kaisen. In fact, it is quite the opposite. It took time but I adore this series.

Jujutsu Kaisen is by far the best in its category of new gen shonen series by a long shot. It just took time for me to realize that the crux of the series is over-the-top bombastic fights and shock after shock. Once I accepted this, I found this series has the best action out of any other similar series.

In fact, Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the only series of the more mature, gory side of shonen manga to not lose itself in the latter half. I find this to be a huge issue with other similar series like Attack on Titan and Chainsaw Man that almost lost me entirely.

Honestly, I don’t look forward to the end of Jujutsu Kaisen because I’ve enjoyed it so much as a whole. I just still prefer the earlier parts of the manga. This is where Yuji Itadori captivated me as the most compelling shonen protagonist in a long time. He isn’t the typical savior of the world or guy rising from nothing.

Instead, almost everyone hates him and wants him dead. This only made me root for him more in these earlier story arcs. As we near the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, I can’t help but reminiscence fondly about this time. After all, it still feels like the best part of the series for me.

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for a new Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which is a figma of Yuta Okkotsu. The figure will come with various accessories to replicate different poses seen in the movie. This figma is planned to release in Japan on February 2024, where it will cost ¥11,000. The release window for North America will be Q2 2024, and it will have a $78.99 price tag.

This Yuta figure comes with three different face plates: a standard face, a serious combat face, and a shouting face. As for the accessories, he will bring his unsheathed katana, a sword bag, the Inumaki family megaphone, and a series of hands for various poses. In addition, people who pre-order using the Good Smile Online Shop will also receive a Rika Illustration Sheet. This allows someone to place her behind Yuta for poses, just like in the movie.

Pre-orders for a 1/1 replica of Yuta Okkotsu’s sword from Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will start on January 12, 2023. This is part of the Proplica series of merchandise. Like other Proplica items, there are gimmicks in the swords that will let you reproduce scenes from the movie. It will cost 14,850 JPY, which is about $112.30, and will come out in June 2023. The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Yuta Okkotsu’s sword replica will have two modes. The first one is Rika Manifestation Mode, and the second one is Jujutsu High Mode. These modes mainly affect what voice lines you hear. In Rika Manifestation Mode, it will play Yuta’s lines from his fights in the movie, as well as Rika’s lines from when she appears. As for Jujutsu High Mode, it will play Rika and Yuta’s lines when they are freeing her. It will also play lines Yuta, Panda, Maki, and Toge said to each other.

As a first from Proplica, there are three separate gimmicks you can use to experience what it’s like being Yuta. The first one recreates the feeling of pouring curse energy into the blade. To activate it, you slide your hand across the blade. There are also slashing and Rika gimmicks, which make it seem like you are fighting. Both gimmicks vibrate and play voice lines from the movie.

Crunchyroll announced the various anime movies and shows coming in March 2023. Leading the pack is the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Blu-ray and DVD release. It will debut on March 14, 2023. Arifureta, Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2, Heaven Official’s Blessing, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Mieruko-chan, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, One Piece, and Sing a Bit of Harmony will also appear.

Pre-orders already opened for the movie on the Crunchyroll store. It costs $26.24. People get both the Blu-ray and DVD in the package. There are a handful of special features as well. The PVs and trailers for the film are available to watch. There is also a “2022 Special Video.”

The popular Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is getting a physical release. Studio MAPPA announced that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Blu-ray and DVD release date will fall on September 21, 2022. Both versions of the movie will include English subtitles as a standard. A Special Edition box set will also include bonus content such as an audio commentary track, booklets, a voiced comic, and live footage of the movie's first viewing. The standard Blu-ray version will cost ¥5,280 (about $40) and the DVD version will cost ¥4,180 (about $32).

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a movie based on the first Jujutsu Kaisen manga serialized in 2017. Creator Gege Akutami later renamed the manga to Jujutsu Kaisen 0 after the official launch of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. The events of both the manga and movie predate the events of the main story, making it a prequel. The movie debuted in Japanese theatres in 2021 and garnered significant attention. Within 11 days of release, it became the second-fastest grossing movie in Japan behind Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has since grossed over 10 billion yen in Japan.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray versions will be available as standard individual purchases and in a Special Edition box set. The movie will only be available with Japanese audio but will come with Japanese and English subtitle options. The Special Edition will additionally feature box art and a digipak illustrated by animator Tadashi Hiramatsu. Orders from retailers will include other merchandise such as acrylic stands, teddy bears, towels, and posters.

Furthermore, the Special Edition will include two booklets. One booklet will feature key visuals and other promotional art, while the other will include "making of" content such as re-published and newly released interviews. Notably, the boxed set also includes a voiced comic of the 9-page Jujutsu Kaisen 0.5 manga that was distributed to theatergoers. Finally, fans will also get to see the movie's actors appear in live recordings of two Jujutsu Kaisen stage greeting events.

More anime-inspired shirts are available through Uniqlo, as it released four based on the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. The items are both available in stores and on the official site. Each one is a unisex, short-sleeved cotton shirt available in sizes XXS through XXXL. Every one of them costs $19.99. However, while the collection launched on April 7, 2022, some of the items are already sold out online.

The first shirt in this Uniqlo collection features the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 logo on the front. On the back is a monochromatic picture of the cursed spirit Rika Orimoto. As of 12:30 p.m. ET on April 7, 2022, this is the first item to sell out online.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0, as its name suggests, is a prequel introducing characters like Yuta and offering insight into other allies and enemies. Which it is incredibly effective at accomplishing. It uses Yuta — who comes across here as an entirely new person — as a window into the world of Curses and Sorcerers. As a result, it becomes a perfect introduction to the series while simultaneously offering new insight to people keeping up with the series.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is, without a doubt, Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto’s story. It begins with us seeing her drive to protect him in action as some bullies come to attack him. They are all killed, and he’s left thinking he’ll isolate himself forever. But instead, following a meeting with the Jujutsu Society elders, Satoru Gojo brings him to Jujutsu High School. There, he s the same class as Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda.

In what is honestly quite a wise decision. While Yuta does come up in Jujutsu Kaisen proper, he isn’t an immediate member of the cast. The nature of his Curse means he’s as new to the world of Sorcerers as Yuji Itadori is. This means that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 can effectively introduce its characters and world to newcomers. Yuta is our eyes. When he learns something, we do too.

The structure of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie initially feels like multiple episodes of a show stitched together, which also helps with accessibility and pacing. There’s Yuta coming to the school and going on a first mission with Maki. We see hints at Yuta and Rika’s backgrounds. We get to watch another mission with Yuta and Toge. It all leads up to a grand battle with the Night Parade of 100 Demons. Everything feels like an easily digestible part, to keep there from being an information overload. At the same time, it all ties together, with the threads becoming more obvious once we reach the end.

But even more important is what Jujutsu Kaisen 0 does for characters we already know. Odds are, someone is coming to the film with some degree of knowledge about the series. In the main series, the first years at the Tokyo branch of the school, Yuji, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki, are the focus and stars. This film lets the Maki, Toge, and Panda be in the spotlight. We get to learn more about Maki and Toge’s abilities and backgrounds specifically. The one-on-one moments with Yuta and them allow not only him to identify with them, but the audience to know them better.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is also good at giving ing characters a few minutes of their own. This mainly comes up during the Night Parade of 100 Demons. Sorcerers and staff from the Tokyo and Kyoto schools show up for cameo appearances. In many cases, it is a chance to offer for what we already know about them and their abilities.

In short, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is effective at fleshing out Yuta and other characters for both newcomers and folks familiar with the series. The pacing gives people a chance to learn more about Yuta, as well as his new classmates. First, it happens via one-on-one settings. But then, once the viewer is assured of everyone’s growth, via a bigger battle that brings in cameos from even more characters. It’s a handy and well-executed supplement.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is about to make its debut outside of Japan, and the English dub cast’s been revealed ahead of that. The two new cast for the prequel were shared. In addition, five returning actors will appear in the movie. There's also a new trailer accompanying the announcement.

Here’s the full list of voice actors who will appear in the English Jujutsu Kaisen 0 dub’s cast. Kaiji Tang, Allegra Clark, Lex Lang, Xander Mobus, and Matthew David Rudd will reprise their roles as Satoru Gojo, Maki Zen’in, Suguru Geto, Toge Inumaki, and Panda.

Toho Movie announced that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has reached a revenue of 10.4 billion yen (~$90.4 million) with over 7.6 million tickets sold. The anime movie sured the 10 billion yen milestone 43 days after it came out in Japanese theaters on December 24, 2021.

The movie adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen's prequel has become one of the most popular anime movies. It grossed over 5.8 billion yen with 4.3 million tickets sold within its first 11 days. However, it still did not come anywhere close to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train. The Demon Slayer movie hit the 10 billion mark in just ten days after its release in October 2020.

The Japan Academy Film Prize Association had also put Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as one of the nominees for the Best Animation of the Year. The nominee list also includes Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time. Revenue-wise, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 outpaced Evangelion, which needed four months from March to July 2021 to reach 10 billion yen. The association will announce the award winner in March 2022.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is immediately available to watch in Japanese theaters. The English version of the movie will be available in the USA and Canada on March 18, 2022. This release will include both subtitles and dubs. The movie will also appear in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, and French-speaking African countries at an unspecified date.

The English version of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has a release date in the USA and Canada. People will be able to catch it in theaters starting on March 18, 2022. 1,500 movie theaters in North America will show it. It will also head to Europe, though the exact release date there isn’t available yet.

Crunchyroll offered details on the showings. First, people can get a ticket for one starting on February 25, 2022. Next, they will have a choice when it comes to its presentation. Folks who attend could pick a showing in Japanese with English subtitles or with its English dub. It is part of the company's Movie Night series. (In the past, that included Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown and Konosuba: Legend of Crimson.)

Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time and Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie are two of the top five animated films in the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize. All five titles win the Excellent Animation of the Year awards for the year, but they are also contesting for the Best Animation of the Year award. The Japan Academy Film Prize Association will announce the award winner on March 11, 2022.

While Evangelion grossed 3.3 billion yen during its launch week, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 outpaced it by reaching 5.8 billion yen just eleven days after its debut in theaters on December 24, 2021.

In the 44th Japan Academy Film Prize held in 2021, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train won the Best Animation of the Year award. It bested Violet Evergarden: The Movie and Stand by Me Doraemon 2, which were part of the nominee list in the same year.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is currently available to watch in Japanese theaters. However, it does not have a Western release date yet. Meanwhile, Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time is immediately available worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.

The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie reached over ¥5.8 billion (about $50.1 million) in gross sales. It sold over 4.3 million tickets just 11 days after its release on December 24, 2021. In its first three days, the movie became Japan's second-fastest grossing movie behind last year's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train.

This makes Jujutsu Kaisen 0 one of the top-selling anime movie adaptations. It officially outpaced last year's Evangelion 3.0+1.0, which grossed ¥3.3 billion in its first week. Additionally, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 grossed ¥2.6 billion (about $22.4 million) in its first three days. In comparison, the only movie to outsell Jujutsu Kaisen 0 within the same timespan is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train at ¥4.62 billion.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the movie adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami's prequel manga of the same name. It follows Yuta Okkotsu, a new student at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. The powerful ghost of a dead childhood sweetheart haunts Okkotsu, who must find a way to control his curse for good. The veteran voice actor of Evangelion fame Megumi Ogata voices the character.

MAPPA animated the movie, and it is also currently in charge of the anime series. MAPPA has worked on other notable anime franchises, including Chainsaw Man and the final season of Attack on Titan.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is available to watch in Japanese theatres. There is no confirmed western release date.
