Zenless Zone Zero is one of Japan Game Awards 2023 Future Division winners

The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) announced the winners of Japan Game Awards 2023 Future Division on the last day of Tokyo Game Show 2023. A total of 11 games received the honors. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Dragon's Dogma 2 are some of the titles included in the list.

The association determined the winners by collecting votes from visitors on the first three days of the event from September 21 to 23, 2023. Japanese publishers will include this recognition in their games' accolades as a testament that they have garnered a lot of interest from the Japanese public.

A special mention went to Zenless Zone Zero, the game under development by the Chinese company miHoYo, as the only non-Japanese title that made the list. In the 2022 edition, the Indonesian indie game A Space for the Unbound achieved this feat.

Inazuma Eleven Victory Road - Raika Shinohara thumbnail

Level-5 published new gameplay details and character art for Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road in a new post on its development blog. The company also confirmed plans to set up playable demos for the game at Tokyo Game Show 2023.

In the new blog post, Level-5 revealed some changes in Victory Road's gameplay system:

  • Focus - Maneuvers in the midfield will no longer be a simple multiple-selection process. The decision-making will now involve actions with player skills, data strengths, and luck as additional factors.
  • Zone - Activities in front of the goal are no longer limited to choosing which shot the character should use. They can now also opt to give a to another teammate.
  • Scramble - When trying to gain control of an airborne ball, the game will now show markers for the player to press at the right time for decisions like keeping the ball or heading it toward another teammate.
  • Tension Gauge - The gauge will now apply to the whole team instead of individual characters. Focus will fill up the gauge, while using techniques will consume it.

Inazuma Eleven Victory Road gameplay

The company also explained how the Football Frontier tournament in Victory Road mode will work. It will regularly run a season every 2 or 3 months. Participants will first gather points by doing preliminary online matches during the period. The organizer will then invite top-ranked participants to the finals tournament at a specified time.

Each team in Football Frontier can field up to five Eternal Players, with existing Seasonal Players occupying the remaining slots. Seasonal Players will randomly appear and become valid for three seasonal years as they grow up. Afterward, they will graduate and become Eternal Players. Notable key characters like Yuto Kido and Shirou Fubuki may also rarely spawn as Seasonal Players for some lucky people.

At the end of the post, Level-5 shared artworks for some of the new characters in Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road. They are Heita Kisoji, Raika Shinohara, Kameo Kodoukai, and a mysterious blonde boy who is apparently related to another existing character.

While almost every player from prior titles will return to form the 4,500-character roster, Level-5 will only include Keshin spirits for finisher technique presentations at launch. Other enhancements like Mixi Max and Keshin Armed are not considered at the moment.

Level-5 games

In an interview with Famitsu, President and CEO of Level-5 Akihiro Hino offered some new details about games announced at the Level-5 Vision 2023 (Tsuzumi) event. Hino also said that Level-5's objective for the future is to aim for simultaneous worldwide releases of its games, something that it intends to achieve gradually. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Regarding Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Keiji Inafune will act as the producer of the game. Two new jobs will be included in the game, but no further details were given about them. However, Hino confirmed that these two unknown jobs are not Farmer and Postman, which were created exclusively for Fantasy Life Online. Characters from the original Fantasy Life and Fantasy Life Online will make appear the new entry.

Hino said that the development team for Decapolice has been working on the game for about three years. The concept behind the game was to create an RPG with a mystery plot as engaging as those in Professor Layton. The game was originally going to be marketed as “the next game from the creators of Professor Layton,” and as a spiritual successor. But since the announcement of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, the developers at Level-5 decided that they could no longer do that.

An important part of combat in Decapolice revolves around negotiating with criminals. Since the game is not a traditional RPG where you fight monsters, engaging with enemies in order to convince them to give up will play an important part. If negotiation fails, regular combat will play as usual, and the criminals will be arrested upon winning.

When talking about Megaton Musashi Wired, Hino stated that the inclusion of two different frame types for the mechs will be a new feature of the game. These will be the classic Gorilla type, and the brand new Slim type. This was made to accommodate for the new crossover mechs that will appear in the game.

Level-5 recently announced during their latest Level-5 Vision five new titles in the making. These are Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Megaton Musashi Wired, and the detective mystery-RPG hybrid Decapolice. All five games are being developed for the Nintendo Switch. Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road will also launch on PS4.

New Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Features 4,500 Characters from Past Games

Level-5 used its Vision 2023 Tsuzumi presentation to bring up more news about Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road for the Switch. The game has been through quite a bit in its lifespan, but now seems closer to release. At the end of the showcase, a full explanation and gameplay footage appeared. So did a 2023 release window.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road is set at Nagasaki, Kyushu’s Nagumoharu Junior High. Players follow Unmei Sasanami, who gave up soccer. However, he gets pulled back into that world and the Soccer Summit by Haru Endo. They can then go through the story to become champions, recruiting over 4,500 characters from past games. However, there is also a Inazuma V Caravan that allows someone to “travel through history” to go through Chronicle Competition Routes based on past games.

There will be 5v5 games, with a freestyle mode. People can play in landscape or portrait modes, with quick actions that can use touch controls to play. You can create your own team of characters from the past and future. These can be used against “hidden” competitors too, as well as when playing online.

This is the latest trailer.

As a reminder, this Inazuma Eleven game began life as Inazuma Eleven: Balance of Ares. That was announced back in July 2016. However, due to development issues, work restarted and it instead became Inazuma Eleven: Great Road of Heroes in September 2019. After further development over the years and during COVID, it eventually ended up renamed as Victory Road of Heroes, or Victory Road for short. Since then, more footage appeared and Level-5’s talked more about the project.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and mobile devices in 2023.

Level-5 Vision 2023

Publisher/Developer Level-5 delivered a number of new project announcements this year, and its next big event will have more information about them. The Level-5 Vision 2023 livestream event is scheduled for early March 2023. It'll stream on March 9, 2023 at 3am PT/6am ET/8pm JST, via Level-5's official YouTube channel. Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be among the games appearing.

Though the company hasn't detailed exactly what it plans to reveal, the event will feature new details about recently announced games like Professor Layton and the New World of SteamFantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, and Deca PoliceAll three games were announced during the February 8, 2023 Nintendo Direct broadcast. Additionally, the Level-5 Vision 2023 event will bring more info on the previously announced Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Megaton Musashi Wired.

Of the featured games in Level-5's event docket, two notable pieces of info can be gleaned. First is that Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road is the official English title for the game. The Japanese title translates to Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes. This suggests that Level-5 intends an international release for the game.

A second new bit of info is the existence of Megaton Musashi Wired (or Megaton Musashi W). The game appears to be a new entry in the series (or perhaps an updated release), and includes an English-formatted logo and design. As with Inazuma Eleven, the changes suggest international release plans. At the moment the Megaton Musashi franchise, both its anime series and the Megaton Musashi X game, are Japan-exclusive.

The Level-5 Vision 2023 streaming event launches on March 9, 2023 at 3am PT/6am ET/8pm JST on YouTube.

inazuma eleven victory road of heroes trailer

A new trailer for Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes shows off how you can control your team in matches. The full details of the development process is on the Level-5 blog. Part of the reason for the lack of updates was due to difficulties in developing how matches would play without a touch pen.

Because Inazuma Eleven players are more familiar with using a touch pen (since the series originated on the Nintendo DS) they had to figure out a good way to bring that same experience onto consoles. Though the team tried to create a control system similar to existing soccer games, it was not the answer they were looking for.

If players had always played with a touch pen, then why not just keep it that way? So with that thought in mind, they created the current control system. The team then continued development from there. You can use a touch pen, your finger, or the D-pad and analog stick to freely move in any direction.

This was the biggest wall in the development of the game. You can view the new trailer showing off matches in Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes here:

As you can see in the video, ing and shooting all use one button. You can choose which hissatsu moves you want to use. The video shows tons of characters from the previous series, but none of the new ones.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes is in development and will come out on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and mobile devices in Japan. More information on the game (including the story, characters, and other game mechanics) will appear in February 2023.

Inazuma Eleven Victory Road of Heroes

Inazuma Eleven: Great Road of Heroes has received a new name after news about its development went silent for a long time. Level-5 revamped its website and blog while revealing that it has renamed the new Inazuma Eleven game to Victory Road of Heroes. The name change also came with a large overhaul of the game's storyline.

While the green-haired Unmei Sasanami will still be the new game's protagonist, the revamped Story Mode will focus on depicting his own story. The main storyline will have Unmei gather for a soccer club at a new school in Nagasaki with an all-new cast of characters. Level-5 will still retain the promised feature of recruiting characters from prior Inazuma Eleven entries, but players will do that in a separate Chronicle Mode.

Level-5 also promised more versatility in the new game's controls and displays. All platform versions will allow players to choose between horizontal and vertical play fields. Mobile devices and undocked Switches will also have a screen orientation option. The Nintendo Switch version will have the most versatile control scheme where players can utilize both the controller and touchscreen.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android mobile devices in Japan. Level-5 will publish more information about the title in Winter 2022.
