iam8bit Persona 3 Reload 4xLP Vinyl Soundtrack Looks and Sounds Stylish

We’ve come to expect iam8bit Persona soundtracks. The company’s worked with Atlus on both mainline and spin-offs. It arrived a year after launch, but now the Persona 3 Reload 4xLP vinyl release that consists of four records packed with songs from the soundtrack is out. Just like past releases, it does a great job of offering another way to listen to the music while also making the records look colorful and packaging match the UI and design direction for this entry.

To start, there are 60 songs on the iam8bit Persona 3 Reload 4xLP vinyl version of the soundtrack. The digital copies of the soundtrack feature two fewer tracks. The only ones missing are “Burn My Dread -Reload-“ and “Deep Breath Deep Breath -Reincarnation Reload-.” I was incredibly psyched about that, as this isn’t a release with songs left out. Atlus and iam8bit brought the full experience for the vinyl release and didn’t cherry pick the ones considered more “important.” On average, between five and ten songs tend to appear on a side, with about 14 on each album.

I listened to each record, and the quality is quite good. Everything is crisp and sounds fantastic. Also, given the nature of them and the genres, I think they’re especially well suited to the medium. “Full Moon Full Life,” “Want to be Close -Reload-,” “Mass Destruction -Reload-,” “Color Your Night,” and “Aria of the Soul” especially sound so appropriate on vinyl.

However, this really is about style and substance. Anyone who has played Persona 3, Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 Portable, or Persona 3 Reload knows the soundtrack for the game is both extraordinary and memorable. We know the songs are fantastic. But the presentation iam8bit went with also maintains the ambiance expected from this installment. The color scheme from the albums matches the ones used in the game, and imagery such as the Persona mask, Fool tarot card, Dark Hour moon, Tartarus clock, and Gekkoukan High School imagery are great nods to this entry. Likewise, the use of a pop-art approach to character portraits for each album’s sleeve works for it.

The only downside is the holographic shape effect is only on one side of each vinyl. This means that you need to really be under good light to see it. It’s present and a neat effect when it is visible. And it is especially noticeable on side H, thanks to the contrast between the black record and prismatic shapes. Just know that it isn’t the main draw. I felt it was more of a pleasant bonus for side B, D, F, and H.

I also honestly appreciate that iam8bit went with Drew Wise for the Makoto box art on the Persona 3 Reload 4xLP vinyl soundtrack set, since it maintains a sense of consistency with past record releases. For reference, Wise also worked on the company’s releases of Atlus’ Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth 4xLP, Persona 4 4xLP, and Persona 5 Royal 3xLP. It means if you are keeping up and collecting each one, you could display the boxes in a way that maintains the theme. Wise also ended up being tapped for the Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis -The Answer- 2xLP, so that will eventually pair well with this too.

The Persona 3 Reload 4xLP vinyl soundtrack release is a much appreciated one, and I really like how the records turned out. They look fun, thanks to the bright colors that stand out while still referencing the game and its UI and themes. The audio quality for the album is good. It’s also giving us the full experience. It’s another example of a solid continuing collection of providing Persona game soundtracks on another platform.

The iam8bit Persona 3 Reload 4xLP vinyl set is available now. Persona 3 Reload is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

iam8bit Persona 25th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set

iam8bit unveiled a new Persona 25th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set, which features 15 LPs from all main Persona titles. The collection will include over 8.5 hours of remastered music from Persona through Persona 5, pressed on colored vinyl records set to each title's theme. The full box set will cost $400. Each album will also be available for individual purchase via the iam8bit website. Pre-orders will open on December 14, 2021, at 7 a.m. Pacific (5 p.m. CEST).

https://twitter.com/iam8bit/status/1469321526771994629

The box set will feature albums dedicated to each Persona game, including both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. The album collection was made in collaboration with the Atlus Sound Team. The team reportedly remastered every track for the vinyl release. All five soundtracks will come in a special 25th-anniversary slipcase, and also include a certificate of authenticity.

As a bonus, the box set will also feature exclusive stickers and postcard pack-ins. Additionally, the anniversary slipcase will also be available for individual purchase and cost $35. The vinyl box set will ship in two waves. The first wave will ship in the third quarter of 2022, and the second wave will ship sometime in 2023.

You can get a better look at the iam8bit Persona 25th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set album art and tracklist below.

Back in 2017, iam8bit released the Persona 5 Essential Edition vinyl set. However, some shipments were delayed earlier this year due to shipping container shortages. Furthermore, iam8bit is also selling vinyl sets of the Persona 5 Royal soundtrack.

The iam8bit Persona 25th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set will open for pre-order on December 14, 2021, at 7 a.m. Pacific (5 p.m. CEST). The full box set will cost $400, and ship starting late 2022.

Persona 5 Essential Edition Delayed

The Persona 5 Essential Edition vinyl soundtrack set planned to ship in Q2 2021 will be delayed ten weeks, production company iam8bit announced on Twitter. The delay itself is caused by a worldwide shipping container shortage, which has been increasing transportation costs globally. iam8bit states that the set is now planned to ship in July 2021, along with ordered copies of the Persona 5 Royal soundtrack.

https://twitter.com/iam8bit/status/1392575373934612480?s=20

Curated by the Atlus sound team, the vinyl set features four LPs contained in a box set alongside an exclusive sticker sheet and postcard. The LPs feature the Persona 5 soundtrack's most popular songs, such as "Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There" and "Life Will Change". iam8bit also ed a video series detailing the process of creating a record, from mastering the songs to packaging and creating artwork.

Unfortunately, those who ordered it will have to wait a little longer. The main reason for the delay is a scarcity of shipping containers. These are mainly produced by Chinese manufactures and purchased by equipment leasing companies in the US. However, the production of containers is currently unable to keep up with the rising demand. Other factors, such as the Ever Given incident in the Suez Canal back in April, have also caused much of the existing containers to be held up.

iam8bit's Persona 5 Essential Edition vinyl set will be delayed until July 2021. Persona 5 Royal is immediately available for the PlayStation 4.

persona 5 royal soundtrack vinyl

People will have a new way to hear the Persona 5 Royal soundtrack next year. iam8bit announced it will offer it on vinyl. Pre-orders will open on December 17, 2020, and the set will ship in Q2 2021. And, for people who missed out, the Persona 5: Essential Edition records will also return in Q2 2021 too.

The Persona 5 Royal soundtrack will be $75. It will be a three record set and have a jacket that is supposedly interactive. It will also have gold foil inner sleeves. The color of the LPs haven’t been announced yet and the Drew Wise art for the album is also temporarily a secret. However, orders placed before December 31, 2020 will include a “Hymn of the Soul” 7” LP when the order ships. A track listing wasn’t shared.

As for the Persona 5: Essential Edition, it will be $100. Only the four-LP version of the soundtrack will be available this time around. When it originally launched in 2017, there was also a 1,000-print deluxe edition with six LPs. (The deluxe edition was also how people were originally able to get the “Hymn of the Soul” 7” LP.)

In other Persona 5 music-related news, Lyn Inaizumi performed “Last Surprise” at The Game Awards 2020.

iam8bit’s Persona 5 Royal vinyl soundtrack will appear in Q2 2021. Persona 5 Royal is available for the PlayStation 4.

One of The Game Awards 2020 announcements was a new look for an old adventure. Disco Elysium Final Cut is on the way. It will arrive in March 2021. ori and the will of the wisps switch

There are certain sorts of games that seem right on a hybrid platform like the Nintendo Switch. Metroidvanias have always been one of them. There’s something about a game where you’re constantly able to do and see more as you explore and unlock abilities that translates well to a system where you can play it on a big TV or all cozy on a smaller screen somewhere. The Ori and the Will of the Wisps Switch port is a game where it not only fits perfectly on the system, but works in sublime ways you would never expect.

Ori begins on an optimistic tone, which quickly turns sour. Ori is living with Naru, Gumo, and a new owl friend named Ku. We watch this family grow together, though there’s a pallor over their happiness as Ku longs to fly, but can’t. After Gumo and Ori help fashion a fix for Ku’s injured wing, Ori and Ku set out on a flight together. Which… leaves them separated, stranded, and in danger.

ori and the will of the wisps switch 2

It’s also a perfect excuse for any Metroidvania staple, which is starting out with nothing and building up to something. You quickly lose the ability to Glide, due to being separated from Ku and the feather. And so, the game is organized in such a way that eventually Ori will gain abilities that let you reach more places. Eventually, Ori will learn to burrow into sandy spaces or grapple onto flowers. You might become better at battling and surviving after buying the ability to throw Spirit Stars or finding out how to regenerate health.

It's a fairly typical sort of platformer, though one where everything feels tight, responsive, and perfectly plotted out. Ori is able to jump, drop, and scurry through the forest seamlessly. Areas get more precarious as you venture further, which makes sense since prior locations prepare you for it. You'll find yourself needing to collect items to appease people or reach new locations. Enemies will start out rather basic and mostly harmless, but eventually become real threats that you have to be prepared to fight. It doesn't do anything super unconventional or new, but it is satisfying.

ori and the will of the wisps switch 3

And, with this sequel, there are features that feel even more in tune with a Switch lifestyle. The save system is a bit different this time around. In Ori and the Blind Forest, you saved at Spirit Wells, fast traveling was only implemented later, and you could create Soul Links with energy to act as a checkpoint. Here, the Spirit Wells are back and immediately act as fast travel points, but the game frequently autosaves. How frequently? You have 10 backup saves ready to help you out. It works very well for someone perhaps playing on the go.

A lot of what’s going on with Ori and the Will of the Wisps is building. The story is more intense and we have a greater sense of connection, since we know who Ori is at this point, the bonds they have with the people they love, and the challenges they face in Niwen. It feels like the platforming is tighter, the enemy design makes as much sense as usual, and you’re more equipped to seek out those little extra rewards and skills to let you reach places you maybe couldn’t before. (And all those saves and fast travel options certainly make it easier and more encouraging to do so.)

ori and the will of the wisps switch 4

It also helps that it feels smooth and natural. Now, while Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a very pretty game on the Switch, it isn’t as gorgeous as the Xbox One or PC versions. You can tell that the sacrifices made to make this port happen knocked things back a bit. This is especially true in darker areas, like the Inkwater Marsh where everything kicks off. But while that price was paid, it otherwise functions so effortlessly that it can feel like a good trade-off. Whether I played docked or in handheld mode, it stayed at 60fps. Ori practically sailed across the screen and gently flowed when I would use combos or tumbled through areas.

Though, if you are playing it portably, I would say that the audio takes a hit as well. There’s only so much the Switch’s built-in speakers can do, unfortunately. But then, it still has this incredible and lush soundtrack that really helps hammer home those absolutely heart-wrenching moments. (And oh, boy, does Ori and the Will of the Wisps have a lot of those.)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps being a great game isn’t something that’s exactly hard to contest. It’s gorgeous, offers a gracious challenge if you let it, and builds on the prior’s foundation both in of story and mechanics. The Ori and the Will of the Wisps Switch port is fantastic fun and the sort of title any Metroidvania fan should own. Is it as gorgeous and great as its big siblings on the Xbox One and PC? No, but it comes very close and excels in other ways by letting you play it anywhere with some minor sacrifices.

ori and the will of the wisps switch

There was a shadowdrop during the September 2020 Nintendo Direct Mini! It is Moon Studios’ Ori and the Will of the Wisps Switch version. Which makes sense, since Ori and the Blind Forest is already there. The digital copy is immediately available for $29.99/€29.99.

Here’s the reveal trailer, which looks at how the Metroidvania runs on the system.

In addition to the digital copy, a physical release for multiple platforms was revealed. iam8bit is working on a $149.99 Ori Collector’s Edition for the Switch, Xbox One, and PC. It will launch in December 2020.

As you’d expect, physical copies of both Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be included in the set. However, there are other bonuses included in the special packaging. You also get a The Flora & Fauna of Ori Field Guide book, a sketchbook zine with concept and production art, a collection of art cards, a stain-glass style art piece, digital copies of the soundtracks, and a glow-in-the-dark enamel pin of Ori with a familiar owl.

battletoads nes battletoads legacy cartridge collection a

Battletoads is back, and I’m not talking about the Xbox One and PC version from Rare and Dlala Studios that just launched on August 20, 2020. iam8bit, Rare, Xbox Game Studios, Retrotainment Games, Infinite NES Lives, and Jango Snow Art & Design are all teaming up for a Battletoads NES rerelease. The Legacy Cartridge Collection will arrive in Q3 2020.

The Battletoads Legacy Cartridge Collection is a limited release of new, playable NES cartridges. For $99.99, people get one of the 2,000 copies. It’s packed in a replica of the original package, comes with a instruction manual with new forward from Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil, and will supposedly have “retro pack-in surprises.”

What’s neat is that there will actually be two different possible Battletoads NES cartridges you could get. Each box will randomly include either the translucent Zitz Green or Pimple Brown cart. The green one is the common design, while the brown will be the rare one.

Here’s a look at all of the cartridge options and their boxes.

There’s also a new Battletoads soundtrack release on the way from iam8bit. The Battletoads: Smash Hits 2xLP will have one disc with original Battletoads music from David Wise and a second with songs from the 2020 game. It’s $42.99 for the Pimple Pink vinyl, and 500 copies will come with Rash’s Toadally Rad Adventure on a cassette.

Battletoads Legacy Cartridge Collection will launch in Q3 2020, while Battletoads: Smash Hits will appear in Q4 2020.

iam8bit e3 2020

iam8bit, the company poised to assist with E3 2020 as a “tastemaker” who would “reinvigorate the show,” has pulled out of the event. Its team will no longer be acting as creative directors. No explanation was offered for the decision, which was announced on Twitter.

This makes iam8bit the third to back out of the event. First, Sony announced that it would not attend in January 2020. (It previously had skipped E3 2019.) Geoff Keighley also decided to not produce E3 Coliseum for this year’s event back in February 2020.

The Entertainment Software Association trade association issued a statement to GameIndustry.biz regarding iam8bit’s decision. It reads as follows.

We can confirm that Iam8bit is no longer part of the inter-agency group working on E3 2020. We greatly value their ion for the video game industry and the contributions they brought toward our vision for this year's show.

We have an innovative and experienced team in place including Endeavor's creative agency 160over90, event innovators Mat+Lo and longtime E3 partners, GES, Dolaher Events and Double Forte--all collaborating to bring to life an exciting and authentic experience for fans, the media and the industry.

E3 2020 will be held June 9-11, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. However, in a recent statement on The ESA’s official site, it noted that it is monitoring the COVID-19 coronavirus situation and will act accordingly following Los Angeles declaring a state of emergency.

e3 2020

The Entertainment Software Association issued a statement about its plans for E3 2020. This time, it’s going over two very different elements about the show. One has to do with a collaboration with iam8bit, a company known for physical editions of certain indie games, vinyl records, and accessories. The other has to do with the security breach that leaked the personal information for analysts and of the media who attended E3 2019.

The information about the iam8bit collaboration is slim. However, the ESA referred to the people from the store as “tastemakers” and said their presence would “reinvigorate the show.” In the past iam8bit has done things like create 30th anniversary cartridges for Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X, released a vinyl soundtrack for Doki Doki Literature Club, and a Daemon x Machina CD soundtrack. This could have something to do with the merchandise that the ESA will sell at the show this year.

As for security, the ESA says that this year it has updated all of its methods of securing information provided by attendees. It noted that a cybersecurity firm had been tapped to work on its website. It also says all of the data acquired about individuals will not be stored on its site, it will ask for less when people , and it has gone over how it tackles things.

E3 2020 will be held June 9-11, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. While Sony won’t be attending the event, Microsoft has confirmed it will be there.
