holo Indie has revealed Kindred Interactive's Holoidle as a new Hololive-themed idle game coming to PC via Steam in June 2025. The now retired Gawr Gura will also appear as a playable character in Holoidle.

The game will have three playable characters in total. The other two Hololive , besides retired Vtuber Gawr Gura, will be Calliope Mori and Houshou Marine.

After selecting a Vtuber, the player will be tasked to tend to her by doing things like cooking meals and patting her head. The Vtuber will regularly generate Holocoins, which the player can spend to obtain equipable Collab Cards. Just like other idle games, Holoidle will have a Rebirth feature where the player can restart the game with more buffs while retaining all collected Collab Cards.

holo Indie has also published a new trailer featuring Holoidle on its YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCWMvIFJQXY

Gawr Gura had already graduated from Hololive Production on May 1, 2025, and is thus no longer active. However, by having a formal graduation event (as opposed to a contract termination like Uruha Rushia), fans creating Hololive indie games can still include Gura in the roster.

Meanwhile, Calliope Mori and Houshou Marine are still active as of May 2025. Marine also recently celebrated a new milestone of reaching 4 million subscribers on May 5, 2025.

Holoidle will be available worldwide for PC via Steam in June 2025.

The Hololive Holo Indie roguelike Myriad Death, which stars English Vtuber Mori Calliope, debuts next week.

The next Holo Indie game has a release date, as we’ll see the Myriad Death roguelike starring Hololive English Vtuber Mori Calliope on March 24, 2025. Steam Deck isn’t confirmed yet, though using a controller is recommended.

In Myriad Death, Mori Calliope is trying to take back the underworld from monsters who thought they could replace Death and her as leaders. However, in summoning her to come back, she’s lost almost all of her memories. This means gathering weapons, picking up abilities, and using both long and short-range attacks to tear through anything in your path.

In case you missed it, here’s the latest teaser trailer for it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJM-to6V1a0

And here are the first screenshots for the Hololive roguelike.

This is one of multiple Hololive games announced at the end of February 2025. The other was holoReversi, which is an Othello style title. At the March 2025 Hololive Super Expo event, we also learned Project Code: Dreams, Holo’s Hanafuda, and Petit Holo Village are in development. However, this is the only Hololive roguelike on the horizon so far, though there have been other Vtuber games in that genre like Holocure.

Myriad Death will come to the PC via Steam on March 24, 2025.

Petit Holo Village is a new Hololive game inspired by Animal Crossing

Holo Indie revealed a new game titled Puchi Holo no Mura or Petit Holo Village at Hololive Super Expo 2025. The game's development team has also opened a social media that also acts as the primary source for its updates. This new Hololive game will play similarly to Animal Crossing, and it will be available on PCs around the end of 2025.

The first trailer for the new Hololive game shows a number of ways the game resemblances Animal Crossing. Players will control chibi avatars based on Hololive Vtubers as they gather materials to decorate their houses. However, they can not only farm crops, chop trees, or mine rocks, as the characters can also use weapons to beat other creatures.

The first few playable characters revealed in the game include Usada Pekora, Houshou Marine, Inugami Korone, Nekomata Okayu, AZKi, and Murasaki Shion. As a reminder, Shion just announced earlier in March 2025 that she will graduate on April 26, 2025. The game will feature not only Japanese Vtubers from the group, as the trailer also revealed Hololive English's Gawr Gura. The game's official X profile also noted that it will have English language in addition to Japanese.

The reveal trailer for Petit Holo Village is also available to watch via holo Indie's YouTube channel. It highlights the multiplayer possibilities too:

Petit Holo Village will be available for PC via Steam around the end of 2025.

Chrono Gear Warden of Time

Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is the latest game from the Holo Indie initiative, where small developers put together games full of everyone’s favorite VTubers. This time, the focus is on Kronii, the personification of time itself, as she heads out on a platforming adventure developed by the team behind Freedom Planet.

I have a confession to make up front. I know next to nothing about Hololive. I don’t tend to watch a lot of streamers, whether human or animated, so their work has never been on my radar. I’m aware of how dedicated the fanbase is and honestly pretty impressed with the tech that makes VTubing work as a concept, but it’s just not for me. What I do know, however, is platformers, and Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is a decent one.

Screenshot by Siliconera

If you’ve ever played Freedom Planet, or one of the Genesis-era Sonic the Hedgehog games that inspired it, you have a small window into what to expect here. It’s not exact, as the persistent acceleration that defines those games isn’t present here. Kronii has a natural top speed when she runs, and it’s a fairly standard speed for most platformers.

That said, momentum does factor into the gameplay, as multiple mechanics can be combined to enhance Kronii’s movement. These include a ground dash, a deadly spinning air dash and time manipulation powers including the ability to temporarily increase her speed. These can be combined with level gimmicks and terrain to effectively fling her around and keep the momentum going. For example, grind rails provide consistent speed or you can jump through rings that propel Kronii forwards.

When you hit the sweet spot of chaining all this together, it can feel hugely satisfying. The circus level that introduces the aforementioned rings is a particular highlight because of how expertly placed those rings are. You’ll be hopping between them with ease, flinging yourself through the level with wild abandon and having a great time.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Sadly, not every level has this feeling though. There are more than a few Labyrinth Zone style levels in Chrono Gear: Warden of Time, where the pace slows down and the game’s flaws become a little more obvious. It still feels like a 90s platformer, but it becomes less Sonic and more like something that could have been a massive hit on the Amiga. Depending on your view, this comment could be seen as immensely derogatory or the greatest thing in the world. It’s got the same chunky feeling as many platformers on that system, the levels seem determined to throw every theme under the sun at you without much cohesion and the camera is weirdly zoomed in.

For the record, this is mostly fine. Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is a fun game the vast majority of the time. But the cracks show often enough. The slower-paced levels often feel thrown together, an assortment of obstacles lined up in ways that don’t always make sense. Sometimes puzzle sequences can be repeated an excessive number of times to the point it feels like padding. The close camera view leads to enemy attacks coming from offscreen, which is often frustrating. Some stage gimmicks have a tendency of wrenching control from you and throwing you directly into an obstacle – the fluid ages in the submarine level were especially bad for this.

I also felt like some aspects of Kronii’s moveset weren’t as fleshed out as they could be. Basic air attacks felt toothless, as she falls like a rock while using them. At best you’ll get one hit in before falling away from your target. I guess this was to encourage greater use of the spinning air dash. However, if you don’t have some distance ahead of the enemy, the dash feels a lot less viable so it would have been nice to have better options. I would have liked a system similar to The Messenger, where successful air attacks could be turned into additional jumps. I feel this would have also opened the game up to greater momentum sequences, where you could bounce off a succession of enemies before air dashing to more platforms.

Screenshot by Siliconera

The real question is, how well did I navigate the writing of Chrono Gear: Warden of Time when I have no knowledge of Hololive? Honestly, pretty well. There’s a quick introductory cutscene that explains that Kronii is part of the Council that governs the universe, along with the other . A mysterious figure has broken Kronii’s Chrono Gear and broken the space-time continuum. Since it’s her mechanism that’s been broken, she’s tasked with collecting all the Golden Gears that can be used to fix it. That’s all you need to know, now go jump around a bit.

Every level features scenes starring other Hololive talent, as they’re all wandering around the galaxy, caught up in the chaos. I have basically no idea who anyone is and no one is given a proper introduction, so this is absolutely designed as a game for fans. That said, it didn’t really matter as most of the scenes were just banter and nothing was required to understand the game’s extremely basic plot.

Instead, I just went along with whatever shenanigans unfolded. Did it matter that I felt like I was peering in on the in-jokes of a bunch of strangers? Sometimes, yet somehow it managed to be consistently entertaining. The cast are a fun bunch of goofballs and they managed to get plenty of laughs out of me. Some jokes are a little corny but it works with the general tone if you let it wash over you. Most of it is just chaos, and I mean that entirely affectionately. Does this mean I’ll start watching their streams? Absolutely not, but I was definitely having fun here.

Screenshot by Siliconera

The rest of the presentation is generally excellent. ittedly, the pixel art isn’t necessarily the best out there. The character portraits are expressive even if I felt some of the character sprites looked a little muddy. The music, however, is full of bangers. The Sonic influence is present, but it also takes influence from other great platformer soundtracks. One level in particular reminded me of the transcendent ambience of the Donkey Kong Country games. On top of that, it still maintained a strong identity of its own and I don’t recall a single level where the music was bland or forgettable. And the developers clearly knew it too, as one of the main collectibles is music tracks for an in-game jukebox, so you can listen to them any time you want.

Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is exactly what you’d expect from a project like this. It’s rough around the edges but made with such obvious love that it’s hard not to find it charming. It’s far from the best in the genre, but there’s still plenty of enjoyment to be found here, especially for Hololive fans.

Chrono Gear: Warden of Time is set for release soon for PC via Steam and itch.io.

Hololive Indie game Myriad Death will star Mori Calliope

Holo Indie revealed two more new games inspired by Hololive Vtubers on the PC gaming platform Steam. The games in question are Myriad Death, which stars Mori Calliope, and the digital Reversi board game holoReversi. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Myriad Death will be a top-down roguelike action game with chibi pixel character graphics. The player will control Mori Calliope who, together with her master Death-sensei, will strive to reclaim the underworld. The player will be able to have her equip various melee and ranged weapons that appear at random via treasure chests that appear in the dungeon.

The other new Hololive game revealed, holoReversi, will let players enjoy the Reversi board game with Hololive Vtubers as their avatars. One of the screenshots published on the game's Steam page indicates that it will have ten playable characters, with two of them confirmed to be the Japanese Vtubers Shirakami Fubuki and La+ Darknesss.

There has been an ever-increasing pace of new Hololive-themed games revealed on Steam. Earlier in January and February 2025, we also saw the reveals of The Exit 8-inspired escape game holo8, the multi-mode party game HoloRun, and Chrono Gear: Warden of Time which stars the Hololive English -Promise- Vtuber Ouro Kronii.

Myriad Death and holoReversi will be available worldwide digitally on PC via Steam. Holo Indie will inform the exact release dates for both games at a later time.

Hakui Koyori teaser in Idol Showdown Next Fes

Besto Game Team has published a new character teaser trailer for Idol Showdown: Next Fes. It hints that the Japanese Vtuber Hakui Koyori will become a new playable character in the Hololive indie fighting game Idol Showdown.

The brief trailer shows how Koyori appears to remove Tokino Sora from the screen. She can make a plush of her mascot Kokoro cling to the opponent, which will then explode after a short while.

If Hakui Koyori does become a playable character in Idol Showdown, she will be the 12th Vtuber to receive the distinction. As of early February 2025, the game's playable roster comprises Shirakami Fubuki, Inugami Korone, Hoshimachi Suisei, Tokino Sora, Kureiji Ollie, Ninomae Ina'nis, Aki Rosenthal, Nakiri Ayame, Kiryu Coco, Shishiro Botan, and Usada Pekora.

While the game does feature many more Hololive and Holostars Vtubers from Cover's Hololive Production, not all are playable as some of them only appear as collab assists, enemy bosses, or NPCs. For example, when Besto Game Team revealed Ninomae Ina'nis, Ouro Kronii, and Machina x Flayon in April 2024, only Ina'nis appeared as a new playable character. Kronii and Flayon only appeared as enemy bosses, with the latter Holostars Vtuber piloting his mech R-TRUS.

The new teaser trailer is available to view via YouTube:

Besto Game Team has also been regularly updating Idol Showdown with bug fixes in the meantime. On February 16, 2025, it released a v4.3.25 hotfix that addressed a bug that caused an online session host to lag and cause a desync for other spectators.

Idol Showdown: Next Fes is available for free on PC via Steam.

holo8 is Hololive game inspired by The Exit 8

holo Indie and Frog Blend have released holo8 on the PC gaming platform Steam. The game's title is supposed to be read as "Holo-Hachi" with the Japanese word for "eight," and it is inspired by The Exit 8.

The reference is very clear when the game primarily takes place on the 8th floor of an office. The objective of this game will be to take the correct elevator to go down to the 1st floor. However, it will instruct players to take the blue elevator only if there are no anomalies in the office or the red one if there are any. They must thus explore the office floor to notice any unusual changes.

holo8 also has an Everyday Mode that does not feature any horror effects so that horror-averse players can also enjoy the game. However, some of the anomalies will be exclusively available in the regular Anomaly Mode, which also has special effects on a game over scene.

This game features a total of 76 characters. It includes alum Vtubers who have formally graduated, such as Kiryu Coco and Minato Aqua. Players will be able to see not only the Japanese Vtubers from the original and DEV_IS groups but also staff and Vtubers from the English and Indonesian branches.

holo8 is now available worldwide on PC via Steam.

Review 702e4y Flare Nuinui Quest Is a Simple, Fun Throwback https://siliconera.voiranime.info/review-flare-nuinui-quest-is-a-simple-fun-throwback/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=review-flare-nuinui-quest-is-a-simple-fun-throwback https://siliconera.voiranime.info/review-flare-nuinui-quest-is-a-simple-fun-throwback/#respond <![CDATA[Cory Dinkel]]> Thu, 28 Nov 2024 17:00:28 +0000 <![CDATA[Featured]]> <![CDATA[PC]]> <![CDATA[Europe]]> <![CDATA[Flare Nuinui Quest]]> <![CDATA[holo indie]]> <![CDATA[Japan]]> <![CDATA[North America]]> <![CDATA[Reviews]]> https://siliconera.voiranime.info/?p=1065232 <![CDATA[

As someone who grew up loving retro platformers, from the classic Mega Man series to modern throwbacks like Shovel Knight and Azure Striker Gunvolt, I’m always eager to dive into games that celebrate the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. Flare Nuinui Quest immediately caught my eye with its vibrant pixel art. At first glance, it seemed like an indie homage to the platforming classics I adore.

However, it’s far from just another retro-inspired title. This game is based on Shiranui Flare, a Vtuber from Hololive Production. As someone completely unfamiliar with Hololive, this revelation threw me for a loop. I barely had any idea what Vtubers were, and certainly no idea who Flare was. Also, I had no idea how someone could make a game inspired by the performer.

For those unaware, Hololive Production is a virtual talent agency housing over 90 Virtual YouTubers. As of November 2024, Cover's group boasts a staggering 90 million YouTube subscribers following its talents. Shiranui Flare is a member of Hololive’s Japanese branch. She's known for her charismatic streams and distinctive design. This actually makes her an ideal candidate to anchor a retro action game. As part of the Shiraken unit, a collective of Vtuber talents, Flare brings her adventurous and friendly spirit to Flare Nuinui Quest, as do other of her unit and generation.

Image via HoloIndie

Did this bring anyone else up to speed? Despite my research, I still feel like I only loosely understand the concept. Yet, I never really felt my lack of familiarity with her character and lore left me in the dark. The game’s colorful presentation and fun gameplay were more what I'd signed up for anyway.

In Flare Nuinui Quest, evil forces have plunged the world into chaos. Now, it’s up to Flare to save her missing Shiraken comrades. Armed with her twin pistols, Smile and Go, Flare embarks on a classic side-scrolling adventure. You know the drill. There are power-ups, secrets, and challenging bosses ahead. The game features appearances from other Hololive , some of whom act as allies, while others become formidable bosses. This adds an extra layer of appeal for fans of the company, who will undoubtedly enjoy spotting familiar faces and references.

For newcomers like me, the story is largely inconsequential. It’s a straightforward setup that serves as a vehicle for the gameplay loop. Flare Nuinui Quest delivers a simple, but satisfying retro platformer experience reminiscent of Mega Man. Players progress through levels, dodging enemies and obstacles while blasting away with Flare’s pistols.

What I actually like about Flare Nuinui Quest is how it sticks to its retro roots. There are no Metroidvania mechanics or sprawling maps to navigate. This is a level-based platformer through and through. Flare’s core abilities include a sliding move and a charge shot, much like Mega Man. However, I found it just as easy and efficient to rely on rapid-fire shots for most encounters. The charge shot does become a bit more useful as you acquired new abilities after defeating bosses. These upgrades attempt to add variety to combat and encourage experimentation. But I found mashing the regular shot was still more than sufficient for most situations.

Image via HoloIndie

The level design itself is fairly straightforward, with many levels being relatively short and linear. To some this simplicity might make the game accessible and keep the action moving. However, it also means the levels don’t always stand out individually. The emphasis is on clean, functional layouts that guide players from start to finish with very little in the way of surprises or complex platforming sections. For some players, it might come across as overly basic.

Boss fights are usually a major highlight in platformers like this, and Flare Nuinui Quest actually delivers pretty well when it comes to major challenges. Each boss is modeled after a Hololive member. It is certainly a treat for fans of the franchise. Even for someone unfamiliar with the characters, the bosses are pretty well-designed and offer a fair challenge. They strike a great balance between nostalgic simplicity and fun mechanics, making each fight feel rewarding without veering into frustration. For a game of this scale, the effort put into these encounters is actually really welcome.

No retro platformer is complete without a memorable soundtrack, and Flare Nuinui Quest doesn’t disappoint. The game features 8-bit renditions of popular Hololive songs, which is an exciting touch. Even without recognizing the source material, I found the music catchy and atmospheric, perfectly complementing the pixelated visuals and fast-paced gameplay.

The Hololive branding is both a strength and a limitation, however. For fans of Shiranui Flare or the Hololive universe, Flare Nuinui Quest is a delightful celebration of the Vtuber phenomenon, packed with references and cameos. However, for players unfamiliar with Hololive, the game’s identity can feel a bit nebulous. While it stands well enough on its own as a retro platformer, the narrative and character-driven elements might not resonate as strongly with those outside the fandom.

Image via HoloIndie

One notable drawback is the game’s brevity. While Flare Nuinui Quest is undeniably fun, it’s also a very short experience. The main campaign takes just a few hours to complete, and can be done in one setting. The inclusion of additional campaigns starring Usada Pekora and Houshou Marine help extend the playtime. But even so, it feels more like a quick diversion than a substantial offering like Shovel Knight.

That said, the game’s low price point makes its short runtime more forgivable. It feels akin to a polished browser game—charming, accessible, and perfect for quick sessions. The added achievements and hidden secrets give completionists a reason to dive back in. However, the core experience is over before you know it.

Flare Nuinui Quest is a charming retro platformer that nails the look and feel of classic 8-bit games. Its simple mechanics, nostalgic design, and catchy soundtrack make it a joy to play, even for those with no knowledge of Hololive or Shiranui Flare. For fans of the Vtuber and the wider Hololive universe, the game is an even bigger treat, filled with familiar characters and references that add depth to the experience. While its short length and fan-service-heavy approach might limit its appeal to some players, the low price and polished gameplay make it an easy recommendation for anyone who loves retro platformers. Flare Nuinui Quest proves that even niche projects can deliver big on charm and fun.

Flare Nuinui Quest is available on PCs via Steam.

Holocure gen 4

After taking a brief detour to create an entirely seperate game (as one does), Kay Yu and friends have returned with a new update for bullet heaven/Survivors-like Holocure. While the update adds another two whole generations of Hololive Vtubers as characters, the real meat of Holocure Version 0.7 is the many additions to the Holohouse side-game.

But first, the new characters. Holocure Update 0.7 adds 9 vtubers from Hololive's 3rd and 4th generations, including now the now graduated Kiryu Coco (though not the terminated Uruha Rushia). Each character has their own personal weapon and set of 3 skills, some of which are fairly simple to understand while others encourage a very different style of play or build. Tsunomaki Watame's character, for example, lacks a lot of offensive power but one of her skill lets her defeat enemies by healing them. Or you could simply use her special, which fires an enormous laser, your choice.

There's also a new stage, a new hard mode, and a few new weapons. Holocure's Stage 5, Fantasy Island, honestly took me a good while to crack even with a nearly maxed out upgrade collection. It's a continuous vertical level with cannons to avoid and a lot of very tough enemies, some of which have extra projectile attacks. There's also a really cool final boss at the end and the new Fan Letter system even incentivizes going back to fight it several times for a rare drop.

The new weapons and items are a bit more subdued and situational, though. The new weapon especially isn't super powerful on its own, but combined into one of the new Collabs it can become really fearsome. The last big addition in Holocure 0.7 is the new skills, which let players choose a utility ability to take in to the game like a heal or a net that catches experience. These are all really useful, however so far I've found the dodge to be far and away the most powerful so it will be interesting to see how the Holocure team balances and builds around the mechanic.

You might be forgiven for thinking that was all, but no, Holocure has more to give. Because multiple new areas have been added to the Holohouse mode, a chill sub-game added with the previous update. Instead of a small area with a house to decorate and small fishing and management minigames, there is now an expansive area to the south containing something like 10 or 11 new minigames. One is a simple crafter-gatherer game involving hitting things until resources fall out, then fashioning them into new tools or crafting items for commission via a different activity. Another is essentially a straight up remake of platformer Jump King, while a new Usada Pekora-themed casino has several games of both chance and skill. You can even train up your mascot workers to fight in the arena, for the most adorable bloodsport.

If I had to criticize it, I'd say some of the minigames are fairly simple or a bit too self contained. There are some bonuses that can be taken into the main bullet heaven mode, but they're mostly quite small and not necessary if you want to skip them. But then that's also a positive, since if you're not as into the Holohouse side of the game you can safely ignore it.

I'd originally felt like the main game content felt a bit light, and that perhaps that was on of how much was in the Holohouse side of the update, but checking back through previous patch notes and there's just as much content in Holocure update 0.7 as usually comes with these large patches. My perception got skewed by just how much side content we got on top. It feels like Kay Yu and the Holocure team are not just getting better and more productive, but also more inventive and ambitious with what they want to try building within the game. If I were a studio looking for fresh talent I'd snap up these developers right away, but I hope we'll get to see what else they can cook up with Holocure for just a little while longer.

Holocure is immediately available for PC via Steam and itch.io.
