hatsune miku project diva megamix controller

Hori will re-release the Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega Mix Switch and PC controller in March 2025. While it is designed for the Switch and Steam versions of the game, there will be an option to swap the buttons to show PlayStation controls.

While supplies last, four △◯✕□ buttons will come with the controller. This is for people who’re used to playing with a PlayStation controller or who just prefer this aesthetic over the XYBA buttons. The buttons and sliders glow when you use them, and they’re the same size as the s on the Future Tone arcade machines. So you can feel like you’re playing the game at an arcade while remaining at home.

Unlike the Future Tone DX controller Hori released for the PS4, this Switch/PC controller does not have a “Normal Mode” to switch to. This means that you can literally only use it for Project Diva Mega Mix. As well, it’s not a wireless controller. To use it, you must plug in the USB cord.

Pre-orders for the Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega Mix controller re-release opened on January 1, 2025. It costs 38,478 JPY ($245.90). You can put in your pre-order via the Hori website. However, Hori does not offer international shipping. The game is also a separate purchase.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega Mega Mix is available on the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC via Steam.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix+ plus pc steam

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix+ is here! The franchise’s debut on PC, the shadowdropped Mega Mix+ iterates on the series’ more recent entries. Interested? We’ve spent some time with it and can tell you what you need to know.

What’s Project Diva Mega Mix? l393g

If you’re a PC-only player, you may need a quick primer on Project Diva as a whole! And we’re happy to help. Starring Hatsune Miku and her Vocaloid pals, Diva is about hitting D-pad directions and face buttons at precise times. Rather than sticking to a line, the prompts can show up all over the place, and when the symbols line up, hit the button. This all shows up over cool and fun music videos, which you’re too distracted to watch while you’re playing.

Originally released on the Nintendo Switch, Mega Mix bundled a heck of a lot of songs from the franchise’s arcade releases into one package. Like PlayStation 4 release Future Tone before it, this approach goes for quantity of content over a console-like structure.

There’s no narrative! Instead, the focus is on options. Costumes! Button prompts and sounds! Whatever can keep you going through the 170-plus included songs. (A DLC pack adds another 72.)

What’s different in this new Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix+ PC version? 62243

Well… it’s on PC? That may sound like a cop-out, but it’s important in a number of ways. First: content-wise, it’s very similar to the Switch release. If you’ve played and enjoyed that one, there’s not a heck of a lot here for you; it’s really trying to reach a new audience with the same game. A few little extras here and there might be of interest to super-fans, like being able to play songs in both Mega Mix and Future Tone visual modes. The poppy Mega Mix look was designed to look nice with the lower visual fidelity of the Switch, while Future Tone uses more realistic lighting.

Still, being on PC has consequences! You can use all sorts of controllers and play at higher resolutions, given patience for a bit of configuration that comes with most PC titles. Our first play using a DualShock 4 loaded up an incorrect button layout and didn’t default to PlayStation icons, so that was a fun few minutes! And lag will vary, depending on your setup. (It’s probably why we’ve loved this series most on the handheld Vita and Switch, since that’s not an issue.)

We’d definitely recommend using some sort of controller, despite the game’s theoretical keyboard . After all, Project Diva is designed specifically with four buttons in a diamond shape for each hand! It can be sort of clunky to play any other way, even if it’s doable.

This freedom also comes with benefits. We’re for sure going to see expert play on some truly weird control setups. The modding community will likely jump at the opportunity to mess with an entry in the series for the first time. New costumes and songs? They might have something to say about that.

They might have something to say about that. hatsune miku project diva mega mix+ plus pc steam Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix+ is available now on PC via Steam. The Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series is great. With each one, we’re getting collections of amazing Vocaloid songs that are already some of the best of the best out there. The thing is, people coming to these games could be entirely new to Vocaloids. They might not know who they are or what sorts of songs they could like. Which could be further exacerbated if they aren’t familiar with Japanese rock and pop music. Which brings us to this, a Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix song guide. Since there’s no way to sort by “genre” in-game, here are a few selections people can quickly jump into that might fall in line with styles they already know they enjoy.

Top 40-like Tunes 5k3i14

“Catch the Wave”

The theme song for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix, it has a great chorus and is definitely an earworm.

“Freely Tomorrow”

This upbeat track is definitely poppy, but is the sort that could easily transcend genres.

“Odds & Ends”

There’s an exceptional piano part throughout the song and its concept, about someone trying their hardest and being ed by Miku, is quite identifiable.

“Ooedo Julianight”

While there is a traditional Japanese music vibe to it, the fact that it pairs Miku’s poppy vocals with Kaito’s raps makes it mimic something you’d hear on a weekend countdown.

hatsune miku songs hatsune miku project diva megamix cendrillon

Heartfelt Ballads 1l5s6c

“Acute”

The story of a love triangle, we hear the mournful parts of the pleading Miku, who is in love with Kaito, Kaito who is in love with Luka, but also cares for Miku, and Luka, who is dear friends with Miku, but loves Kaito too.

“Cendrillon”

Yet another sorrowful song, this heartfelt alternate take on a Cinderella story has a prince and potential princess who do love each other, but the young woman knows she will end up having to kill her love at the end.

“From Y to Y”

What really sets this song apart is how for much of it, it really focuses only on Miku’s voice accompanied by a piano and keeps returning to those two parts as the focus of a moving song about heartbreak.

“Magnet”

While the other ballads here have all been about heartbreak, this is one about an active love where the two women deeply love one another deeply and are drawn together like magnets.

Incredibly Poppy 6b212n

“Ageage Again”

This is one of the most bubbly Hatsune Miku songs out there, with the repetitious “ageage again” turning into an inevitable earworm. It is bubblegum pop at its finest.

“Colorful x Melody”

Ah, another bubblegum pop song. Here we have Miku and Rin’s vocals paired together. If you like The Idolmaster, it sounds like the sort of song one of the groups would perform on stage, and the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2nd video shown in the Niconico video even has it performed like a brief idol live to drum up interest in a group.

“Just Be Friends”

There’s a very casual back-and-forth with “Just Be Friends.” Even though we’re hearing about a failed relationship, everyone seems to be ready to move on and, well, be friends. It’s cordial.

“Melt”

Easily a candidate for a ballad as well, this love song keeps things constantly upbeat and memorable.

Rock 2h6p4u

“2D Dream Fever”

While there are electronic influences here too, the guitar parts are exceptional and really stand out.

“Doubleganger”

The guitar parts and pairing of Miku and Rin on a rock track always get me, and I love how the music video calls to mind series like KON! with the two depicted as high schoolers with a band in their spare time attempting to compete.

“Ghost Rule”

Yet another Miku song with guitar sections that really stand out, this also has a sort of gritty and real feel to it. (I also wish there was an extended version with a drum solo.)

“Tengaku”

Now this Rin rock song delivers on drum solos. I always think of it as her “rage” song, since in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F and subsequent games, the music video has her literally burning the house down.

Jazzy or Just Plain Different 20t1p

“Karakuri Pierrot”

There’s a bit of a jazzy hook to “Karakuri Pierrot” that keeps it from sounding like the typical Miku song. It’s not R&B, but there are some fun moments where it plays around with the tone and beat and feels different.

“Miracle Paint”

Now here’s the real jazzy Miku song. The syncopation gets me when actually playing it, as right when you think you’re starting to see a pattern you can rely on, you might het a hold note or see another note come up quicker than expected.

“On the Rocks”

Funny how OSTER Project is responsible for multiple songs here! (The producer also did “Miracle Paint” and “Piano x Forte x Scandal.”) This is a Meiko and Kaito song that songs like it could be playing in a pub or before a big heist.

“Piano x Forte x Scandal”

Another Meiko song that sounds like it could be played in a piano bar. It has this sense of rushing and building while, yes, keeping a tone that seems somewhat smoky.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix songs

An interesting thing can happen with Vocaloid songs. Since these are characters who don’t have defined roles or personalities, people will sometimes use the music to create personas and situations for all of them. There can be whole story arcs, like the Story of Evil line that begins with Rin’s “Aku no Musume,” or “Black Rock Shooter,” the Hatsune Miku ryo song based on a Ryohei “Huke” Fuke illustration that led to anime adaptations, mangas, and a game. While Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix isn’t filled with these sorts of songs and is more of a fond return upon the series’ tenth anniversary, its wide selection helps introduce people to its “stories.”

For example, when you first head to the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix songs, “Acute” is the first track that comes up by, well, virtue of things being in alphabetical order. Which is an appropriate, albeit dark, way to start. This is a love triangle song, where both Miku and Luka are in love with Kaito, but he loves Luka. It is a dark one with a story eventually based on it that highlights the obsessive nature of the affair and a tragedy that ensues. Yet still, right away it shows how the Vocaloid software and these characters can be used to set a stage in such a short period of time and inspire something larger.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix songs acute

It’s one of many telling a tale of one or many characters. “Cendrillon” is a take on the Cinderella story. Except here, Miku meets the prince, Kaito, to kill him and falls in love with him instead. However, fate cannot be escaped. In “Odds&Ends,” the Miku program encourages someone learning to use the Vocaloid software to create something beautiful. “Hello, Planet” follows Miku as an Android attempting to save a plant from a post-apocalyptic and dying world and is fourth in a series of five Doomsday songs by Sasakure.UK. We also have the second Love & Hate song, “Love-Hate,” which follows Len after he’s broken up with Miku, realized he is in love with Rin, and Rin is trying to determine her own feelings and what she wants.

As for tracks to flesh out specific character attributes, there are plenty of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix songs offering potential personality traits. “Sadistic.Music∞Factory” is a fantastic example. It suggests that Miku is constantly hungering for new music, devouring the tracks that people create, and the intense pace and imagery keeps up the pressure even if you aren’t aware of what is being said. There’s also “Tell Your World,” which offers an opposite sentiment that suggests Miku wants to share all songs and music with everyone… rather than chowing down on creators’ creativity. One of the more haunting ones here is “The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku,” which follows her realization that she is a Vocaloid and program, one that is about to be uninstalled.

This doesn’t really happen with the new Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix songs. Of them, only one of them attempts to have a storyline. The Luka-led “Dreamin’ Chuchu” follows a young woman who is in love. Valentine’s Day has arrived so, to finally share her feelings, she’s making chocolates as a way to confess. It isn’t as detailed or intricate, but it does give people a chance to see an animated version of “Luka” as she puts all her efforts into preparing something for someone she adores.

There’s just one feature missing that could really have helped people using Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix as a means of learning about Vocaloids and their music: translations. While localizations of the actual songs are never a guaranteed inclusion, some releases have offered them. For example, 2014’s Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd does offer English translations for the lyrics running along the bottom of the screen, which is very helpful for songs with actual stories like “Romeo and Cinderella” or “Love-Hate.” There are no translations here, which is a bit of a bummer, but hopefully some of the tracks with rather obvious stories conveyed, like “Acute,” will prompt players to explore more.

Given the gap between Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone, which launched in June 2016 in Japan January 2017 outside Japan, and the way the Nintendo Switch has found its way into people’s homes as of late, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix could be some’s entry into the series. People unaware of the sagas some songs can create may not realize the stories they can tell or the way composers and lyricists can use songs to define otherwise blank slate characters. Thanks to a 100-plus track library, the songs here can help set the stage.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix songs

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix is a textbook example of the importance of context. It’s largely the same as its predecessor, and it does pack a few bonus tunes. What makes it particularly valuable, though, isn’t about that.

The Project Diva series is a long-running one, spanning back to the halcyon days of the PlayStation Portable. Once it broke out in the West, it did so with gusto! Things have quieted down as of late, though, with the last main release showing up back in 2016.

That’s great news for the series’ tenth anniversary project, Project Diva Mega Mix. The game is, generally speaking, a port of Project Diva Future Tone. That game compiled dozens of songs from the popular Japanese arcade version, and it did so with lots of in-song customization but without a lot of the progression and trimmings of the recent home versions. The menus have been reworked here, and there are some fresh tracks among its monstrous selection. Most of its appeal, though, is having that library on a platform with the flexibility and portability of the Switch.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix

The other main draw of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix is, much like the rhythm gameplay itself, about great timing. Is it the long wait since the last release, which was itself crowded up against the release date of the fewer-songs, more-options Project Diva X? Is it the increased time for games many have in the world’s current state? Or is it the game’s release date falling into the window many Switch owners, new and old, are increasingly looking for alternatives to Animal Crossing: New Horizons? All of these benefit the game greatly.

There are some new things, though! The largest of these is Mix Mode, a new Joy-Con control solution that’s meant to take advantage of the platform’s motion controls. In our experience, it’s more of a novelty than a real replacement for buttons. Hey, it’s an option! Another addition is the ability to draw and customize T-shirts for the characters to wear. With generous zoom capabilities and a skilled hand, an artist could make something convincing and cool! The rest of us will be bad. Very bad. And that’s fun too, sometimes. It’s hard to justify using this more than once or twice, given the huge library of actual costumes available in the game.

hatsune miku project diva mega mix

Ten tracks are new in this installment: “Alien Alien,” “Dreamin Chuchu,” “Hibana,” “Jigsaw Puzzle,” “Jitterbug,” “Ooedo Julianight,” “Roki,” “Teo,” and theme song “Catch the Wave.” Outside of the last one, these are generally trickier tracks suited more for challenging gameplay than an anthemic concert. That does mean they’re in the right place, though.

These ten the returning lineup to total 101 songs in the main package, with 36 more available in the game’s add-on offerings. That, plus the Switch’s portability, means it’s also the best release for using as a Vocaloid jukebox. Full playlist capability returns here, so you can actually watch the videos that are tougher to see with button prompts covering them up and generally enjoy composers’ craft.

Whether avid Future Tone players will get enough out of Mega Mix to justify a second purchase is a little more up-in-the-air. Nintendo loyalists, though, have so much more to explore than have been included in the 3DS’ Project Mirai releases. Total newcomers will be bowled over by the breadth of options. Rarely do games with “Mega” in the name earn the distinction so unequivocally.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega Mix will release May 15, 2020 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Ten of its songs will be added to its PlayStation 4 predecessor, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone, at a later date.

Project DIVA Mega Mix

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix might already feature two different play modes, with Rhythm Game mode and the gyro control-focused Mix Mode, but a third major control option is being added to the game via the update releasing tomorrow in Japan: Touch Play Mode. Essentially, it adds button controls to the Nintendo Switch touch screen in Tabletop Mode or Handheld Mode.

First revealed earlier in March 2020, Touch Play Mode features the buttons in the same order as they are presented in the Project DIVA Arcade game, letting players have an option to play with similar controls even without buying the extra arcade pad. As you can see via the screenshots above, the symbols on the buttons will reflect whichever four button symbols you are using at the time. (You can use the PlayStation symbols or arrows, rather than ABXY, if you prefer.)

You don't actually have to touch on the buttons themselves, but rather the column they appear in, which will help considering the many directions the notes fly in from. Slide and Chain Slide icons are performed by swiping quickly or slowly in the shown direction depending on which one you're doing. That said, Sega warns that once Touch Play Mode is active, Joy-Cons and other controllers will become inactive, limiting you to the touchscreen only. You won't be able to use a combination of the two.

Here's a look at Touch Play Mode in action:

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. It will come to other regions on May 15, 2020.

The Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix release date has been revealed! People outside Japan will be able to begin playing through the rhythm game on their Nintendo Switch systems on May 15, 2020. There will be two versions available at launch. One will be a $39.39 base game, with the price offering a nod to Miku’s official number, while the other is a $59.99 Mega Pack that includes the game and six DLC song packs with 36 more songs. Both will be a digital-only eShop releases. Meanwhile, the free demo is out now.

Details about the additional Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix DLC were also announced. Preordering or buying the game at launch gives people the Theme Song DLC Pack. This includes Deco*27’s “Yumeyume,” Kosaki Satoru’s “The Secret Garden,” Ryo’s “Look This Way, Baby,” and Ryo’s “Sekiranun Graffiti.” It will be available with preorders or show up free for everyone on June 12, 2020.

The Mega Pack’s six DLC packs give people 36 additional songs. People who get the cheaper base version will have the option to get these later either in $6.99 individual packs or in a $29.99 bundle. Should people get all the DLC, they will have access to 100 songs.

As for the free demo, it includes two songs that can be played in Arcade or Mix Mode. (The latter uses the Joy-Cons and motion controls.) “Arifureta Sekai Seifuku” and “Romeo and Cinderella” are the two tracks available. This means it is identical to the Japanese demo.

Project Diva MegaMix

Sega released Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix for the Nintendo Switch on February 13th in Japan, but it appears the publisher and its retail partners underestimated demand for the game. As of this week, the game is facing shortages across several retail stores.

In a post to the Project Diva blog, Sega apologizes for the stock problems and requests that customers buy the digital version of the game via the Nintendo eShop instead. For those that still wish to buy physical, Sega notes that added shipments will take a little longer to reach the market and recommends reserving a physical copy in advance.

Famitsu reported earlier in the week that Project Diva MegaMix sold 53,606 units in its first week on store shelves. While that isn't a particularly high figure, MegaMix is performing better than the previous game in the series, Project Diva: Future Tone, which sold 33,527 units at launch in 2017. MegaMix would presumably have been even higher, had Sega and retailers anticipated demand correctly.

To make amends, the company is extending its early buyer bonus—four extra songs—to the game's second shipment when it arrives on store shelves.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix will be available in western markets later this year.
