Eastasiasoft kicked off its 24th showcase announcing new games by revealing the Hakuoki otome game spin-off Hakuoki SSL: Sweet School Life is finally going to appear in English on the Switch. The game originally debuted in 2014 Eastasiasoft was behind the release of the Switch version of the original entry as well. This entry will debut in “late” 2025.

For those new to this story, it takes familiar faces and brings them into a whole new setting for an AU (alternate universe) story. So Chizuru and the of the Shinsengumi are still around! However, they’re leading a decidedly more peaceful life with no supernatural elements. Chizuru is a high school student. Rather than being the only woman in the Shinsengumi, she’s the first girl to attend a formerly all-boys school. Okita, Saitou, Toudou, Yamazaki, Ibuki, Nagumo, Kazama, Kyuujyu, and Shiranui are all students. Kondou is the principal and Hijikata is the vice principal. Harada and Nagakura are teachers. Sanan is the school’s doctor. As in some of the later releases, there are routes for characters like Nagakura, Sannan, and Yamazaki. So we follow Chizuru through her new life at a new school and maybe help her find love along the way.

Eastasiasoft confirmed that there will be digital and physical copies of the game available. We’ll find those at Playasia. In addition to the standard copies, 2,000 limited editions with acrylic character standees, Switch Joy-Con stickers, an art book, and a soundtrack CD will appear as well.

One of the many announcements and mentions made at Aksys’ Anime Expo 2016 had to do with Hakuoki. While the company has nothing to announce yet, RPG Site says it expressed a desire to localize Hakuoki: Sweet School Life, the alternate reality, modern-day visual novel starring the heroes and heroines from the otome series.

Originally released on Japanese PlayStation Vitas in 2014, Hakuoki: Sweet School Life follows Chizuru Yukimura as she becomes the first female student at Hakuo Academy. All of the of the Shinsengumi fill more ordinary roles. Hijikata Toshizo is her homeroom teacher and Sanosuke Harada is the PE teacher, for example. Meanwhile, Heisuke Toudou is Chizuru’s childhood friend and Souji Okita, Hajime Saito, and Chikage Kazama are upperclassmen.

While we haven’t seen a localization of the full Hakuoki: Sweet School Life experience, we did get a glimpse of it in Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi on the PlayStation 3 . It was possible to unlock and read through the short stories that inspired the spin-off.

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life reimagines the Hakuoki series in modern day with Chizuru being the first girl to attend an all boys high school. Of course, the guys from Hakuoki are her classmates, but in this game they'll email you on your cell phone.

Idea Factory also added school mini-games like a math questions, a quiz game where you run to grab the correct answer, and a water gun fight called "Relentless Shooting! Summer Survival Shooting" where you shoot other characters with a squirt gun. I can't any school with that kind of game, but then again I can't recall any school with the Shinsengumi in it either. You can catch the water gun game in the trailer and a maid cafe mini-game that looks kind of like Diner Dash.

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life comes out on March 27 for PlayStation Vita.

Right now the PSP is the main system for otome or girls romance games, but Idea Factory is determined to make PlayStation Vita the next home for the genre. They released an Otomate Special Pack with Amnesia V Edition and a Vita port of Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom in December.

This 22,050 yen ($210) bundle, which includes a white PS Vita 2000 series model and an Amnesia V animation DVD, will be reprinted to coincide with the launch of Hakuoki: Sweet School Life. This Hakuoki title is a spinoff that reimagines the series in modern Japanese high school instead of feudal Japan.

The Otomate Special Pack and Hakuoki: Sweet School Life will be available on March 27, 2014.

Well, not totally regular since all of the other Hakuoki guys are and you're the first girl to be itted to this all boys school.

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life will be released for PlayStation Vita on March 27, 2014. Aksys has been bringing over many of the Hakuoki games overseas, so perhaps this is on their radar.

The Hakuoki romance game series takes place in feudal Japan, but what if Chizuru Yukimura went to high school instead? That's the premise of Hakuoki: Sweet School Life, a PlayStation Vita game that takes place in an all boys school.

Chizuru (the same protagonist in the other Hakuoki titles) is the first girl itted to Haku High and of  course the other characters in Haukoki: Sweet School Life are the game. Hakuoki: Sweet School Life is a spinoff and Idea Factory clearly states the game is not tied to the main series.

Hakuoki: Sweet School Life is slated for release in spring 2014. Before that comes out, Diabolik Lovers Limited V Edition for Vita will come out on December 19 and Idea Factory has two other otome Vita ports. Looks like otome games are making the move from PSP to Vita now.
