The first case in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth begins with a murder, but instead of sitting in a comfy office like Phoenix Wright, the game starts with Edgeworth on the scene. A frazzled Dick Gumshoe follows runs in late.

These story bits are told with text and sprites, not text and portraits like the Phoenix Wright games. Some scenes still use talking heads and it's nice to have both. You can see other officers dusting the crime scene for prints while Edgeworth and Gumshoe talk. Edgeworth takes a moment out of the chaos to introduce himself too, just in case a player isn't familiar with the Ace Attorney series.

During a conversation Edgeworth automatically picks up two clues, the murder location is his office and the door requires a key to open. Using logic (i.e. the logic system by pressing the L button) the player can select these clues and then hit conclude to make Edgeworth put them together. Since there are only two clues now you can't get this puzzle wrong. When Edgeworth realizes he's on the right track a swirl of green lights spiral on the top screen and Edgeworth smugly crosses his arms and wags his index finger. The conclusion gives Edgeworth access to another clue that the culprit purposely made the murder to take place in Edgeworth's office.

Now you get to walk around with Edgeworth, freely walk around. You can move Edgeworth and Gumshoe, who follows behind like the second hero in an RPG, with the D-pad or dragging the stylus in the room area. You can tap on Gumshoe's face to talk to him. A pop up examine command lets you know if there is an interesting object near by.

Well, there is a gun on the floor. I'll start with that. Inspecting the gun adds another clue to the logic bank. Now it's time to search the body. The game zooms in on the lifeless victim and you can target specific areas, similar to the Phoenix Wright games. Searching the body adds evidence to your court file. This is the first piece of evidence I obtained other than the prosecutor's badge, which Edgeworth starts with. Hit R and you view the case file which has all of the items and profiles you discovered. Searching the badge next to the body adds another clue to your logic menu.  You can continue to search for more clues, Gumshoe thinks lots of things are relevant clues, but that's really all you need to move forward. Matching the badge with the gun in the logic board makes Edgeworth deduce the gun is actually the victim's which adds another item to the case file. If you make a mistake and match the gun with the murder location clue you lose a bit of logic energy. Not as much as some objections in Phoenix Wright, just a smidgen.

The case moves forward with Makoto, an athletic looking prosecutor wearing a sweatband and carrying a sports coat on his shoulder, dashing in. Edgeworth explains the victim was moved around after noticing two sets of bloody finger prints and out of place case files on the bookshelf. After moving the body and the files back in its proper place he notices one file was stolen! A clue goes into the case file and the demo ends.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth feels like it retains the brainteasing fun of the Ace Attorney series. In addition to using evidence players need to connect clues to move the story forward.

Our detective work was right on the mark! Capcom is localizing the Phoenix Wright spin-off, Gyakuten Kenji, as Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. Teamed up with bumbling detective Dick Gumshoe and "mischievous thief" Kay Faraday you (as Edgeworth) investigate crime scenes and put the pieces together to bring perpetrators to justice.

Since Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth doesn't take place in court you actually have a little sprite that walks around. Also, since you're not standing in front of a jury, legal battles are out. Instead you confront suspects and present evidence that proves their culpability. To move cases forward Edgeworth has to deduce how the clues connect with a logic system. When he gets something right he shouts his new catch phrase, "Eureka!".

Expect Phoenix Wright fans to add that word to their vocabulary when Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth comes out this winter.

Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor) brings Miles Edgeworth out of the courtroom and into crime scenes. Makeshift evidence to reverse your case isn't presented to a judge in this game, but you still have to put the pieces together.

When Edgeworth and Detective Gumshoe investigate areas they find clues. These appear in Edgeworth's mind, represented in the game in logic mode. Touch two clues and Edgeworth tries to connect them. If you're right the case moves forward. Make a mistake and the green life bar carried over from Phoenix Wright takes a hit. Make too many mistakes and you have to restart the case.

While the setting and characters are different Gyakuten Kenji retains the spirit of the Ace Attorney series. Check out these videos sent in by Justin (thanks!!) to get a better feel for what I mean.

Capcom USA has not announced Gyakuten Kenji for the US yet, but a trademark we discovered for Ace Attorney Investigations is pretty solid evidence that they are working on it.

In typical Capcom fashion Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor) has a limited edition bundle containing bonus items such as music CDs and a business card holder. Separately, Capcom announced a Nintendo DSi pack containing the game and a DSi with Taiho-kun. We know the game's police mascot here as the Blue Badger.

The Nintendo DSi bundle goes on sale for 23,940 yen ($239). Aside from the special DSi the pack doesn't come with any other Ace Attorney goodies like a Blue Badger manga or Edgeworth coffee mug.

Worried that Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor) won't come out over here? I wouldn't be worried. Capcom USA published every Nintendo DS game in the Ace Attorney series so far, but courtroom drama fans want a little evidence right?

I found some, a trademark for Ace Attorney Investigations ed by Capcom. With Ace Attorney, Apollo Justice, and Phoenix Wright already ed I'm confident this will be used for Gyakuten Kenji. This DS game has Edgeworth and Gumshoe playing more of a detective role exploring crime scenes and piecing together evidence to crack cases instead of saving innocent defendants in court. The Japanese version comes out in May. Localizing Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney took around ten month so I wouldn't expect to see Ace Attorney Investigations until the end of this year at the earliest.

Capcom is giving Miles Edgeworth his own game known in Japan as Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor). Like a few other Ace Attorney games for the Nintendo DS Capcom is also selling it in a bundle package for fans.

The Gyakuten Kenji limited edition comes with a business card holder, two discs with promotional videos, character illustration portraits, a CD featuring five tracks from the Ace Attorney concert where the game was announced performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, a revised mini pamphlet from the concert, a limited edition box, and the game for 9,240 yen ($96). That's almost double the price of Gyakuten Kenji which retails alone for 5,040 yen ($51).

Capcom's limited edition Gyakuten box sets tend to be rare and go up in price fast. If you're into collecting these kinds of things be on the look out for it and a bunch of other Ace Attorney swag Capcom is selling like a Gyakuten Kenji t-shirt (3,150 yen), Edgeworth shot glasses (1,050 yen), IC card decoration stickers (630 yen), and Godot's coffee mug (1,050 yen).

Phoenix Wright's rival Miles Edgeworth is starring in his own game. In Japan it's called Gyakuten Kenji (Reversal Prosecutor) and Capcom will release it on May 28. The official site mentions a limited edition too, but there aren't any details about what it contains.

It's Edgeworth's job to identify the perpetrator and the motive. You investigate crime scenes, but for the first time players can freely move their characters to search every nook and cranny for evidence. Once Edgeworth has enough clues you get to put the pieces together with the game's logic system to build a case. While Gyakuten Kenji is a spin-off of the Phoenix Wright games it sounds closer to a point and click adventure than the other games in the series.

Gyakuten Kenji (Reversal Prosecutor)? We heard about the Miles Edgeworth spinoff a few months ago, but Capcom hasn't said much about it after the original announcement. Finally, we have new screenshots that show Gyakuten Kenji's opening case and a sporty looking public prosecutor Makoto Yuuki. His name literally translates into something like honest courage.

When you're at the scene of a crime Edgeworth points out contradictions during investigations. These scenes look similar to the courtroom sequences in the Phoenix Wright games where you need to use evidence to prove your point.

Gyakuten Kenji will also be on display at Capcom's Tokyo Game Show booth and we're looking forward to checking it out.
