During the Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024, a trailer for Lego Horizon Adventures came out. This will be available on not only the PlayStation 5, but also the Nintendo Switch and PC.

This will be a crossover title between Lego and the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise .In the trailer, we saw a Lego version of Aloy roaming around, exploring, and defeating enemies. It seems like there’s some sort of multiplayer function in the game, as you can attack your friends. However, it seems that the multiplayer is limited to you and a friend. There’s also a build function where you can set up your own base.

You can watch the trailer here. It includes references to Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as Forbidden West. A number of returning enemies, as well as some of Aloy's allies, all show up during it in Lego form.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKv41GP4tw0

Lego Horizon Adventures will come out during the holiday season 2024 for the PS5, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

New Horizon Games Teased

A Horizon Forbidden West sequel seems to be on its way in the future, as confirmed by developer Guerrilla Games. The information was teased as part of a retrospective of Guerrilla’s work celebrating their 20th anniversary on the PlayStation Blog. Studio Director Jan-Bart van Beek said that he looks forward to fans seeing where Aloy goes next in her story.

Guerilla also confirmed that the Horizon franchise has sold 32.7 million units combined. Horizon Forbidden West makes up 8.4 million units of this total. However, there is a higher number of players due to subscriptions such as PlayStation Plus.

Elsewhere in the post, Van Beek looks back at the history of the studio, starting out in 2003 on Shellshock: Nam ’67. He then goes through the history of making the Killzone series for Sony and how it led to them becoming a first-party studio.

Naturally, a big chunk of the blog is dedicated to the development of Horizon Zero Dawn. Van Beek talks about the challenges of making the shift from a sci-fi FPS franchise to an open world action adventure. He also discusses the nervousness he and the other staff experienced showing off the reveal trailer for the first time.

Horizon Forbidden West is out now for PS5 and PS4. A major expansion, Burning Shores, released on April 19, 2023 for PS5 exclusively.

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores

A new entry on the official Playstation Blog featured an interview with Horizon series Game Director Mathijs de Jonge. In it, de Jonge discussed the advantages of developing content solely for PS5. Burning Shores, the DLC for Horizon Forbidden West, was previously announced as being exclusive to the system. Game Director de Jonge said focusing on PS5 development allowed Guerilla to "charge forward" with development without having to plan around PS4 optimization.

Game Director de Jonge talked about how environmental richness was a priority for the Horizon series, and the PS5's technical power meant they could add more detail while running at higher framerates and resolutions. He also explained that the extra processing power meant they could run simulations faster, as well as making it easier to review sections of the game without stopping for loading times.

Here is de Jonge's full explanation:

One of our key priorities with Horizon games is to add a ton of detail and richness to our environments. On Horizon Forbidden West, everything we added or increased was something we’d need to have a plan around how to optimize for PS4 as well. On Burning Shores, since we can just focus on PS5, we’ve been able to charge forward and we’re really excited about what we’ve been able to pull off in creating this stunning post-post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles.

The cityscape ruins of LA and its surroundings are highly detailed and require a lot of processing power as well as fast streaming technology to run properly; especially when the player is flying over the lands and can see a lot at once. One of the settlements is situated in and around those detailed ruins, and we were able to squeeze a lot of activity in there.

Another notable one is a particular battle scene that requires a LOT of memory and processing power! To achieve this grand vision both technically and creatively, we definitely were thankful for the many advantages that the PS5 hardware brings.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores will see players traveling to post-post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, which has become a flooded, coastal jungle. You can watch the trailer for it below:

Horizon Forbidden West is immediately available for the PS4 and PS5, and its Burning Shores DLC will release on April 19, 2023 on the PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West Collector's Edition

Sony announced all of the different Horizon Forbidden West Collector’s Edition and special variants. However, people will have to pay attention if they want a physical copy of the game or one with a free PS5 upgrade. Some of the editions don’t include physical copies of the game on a Blu-ray disc, while others don’t offer a free PS5 copy with it.

To be specific, only the $59.99 PS4 and $69.99 Launch Editions and $69.99 PS4 and $79.99 PS5 Special Editions include a copy of the game. If someone picks up the $79.99 Horizon Forbidden West Digital Deluxe Edition, $199.99 Collector’s Edition, or $259.99 Regalla Edition, they get a code that can be redeemed for both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. All pre-orders include the Nora Legacy Outfit and Spear for Aloy.

The Horizon Forbidden West Launch Edition and Special Edition are both rather basic. The former includes the game. The latter adds a SteelBook case, digital soundtrack, and mini art book. As for the Digital Deluxe, you get a digital copy of the art book and soundtrack, a The Sunhawk digital comic book, and in-game add-ons like an Apex Clawstrider Strike Piece, a Carja Behemoth Elite Outfit with short bow, a Nora Thunder Elite Outfit with sling, Photo Mode face paint and pose, and a Resources Pack.

It’s the other editions that get more elaborate. The Horizon Forbidden West Collector’s Edition includes everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Special Edition’s mini art book and SteelBook case to display, and Strike figures of Aloy facing a Tremortusk. The Regalla Edition involves everything in the Collector’s Edition, then adds two art print cards, a canvas map of the game’s world, a Focus you can display, and some Clawstrider and Sunwing pieces to go with Aloy and the Tremortusk.

Finally, here's the latest trailer.

Horizon Forbidden West will appear on the PS4 and PS5 on February 17, 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West

A trailer promoting the release of the PlayStation 5 may have clarified the expected release windows of games like Horizon: Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Gran Turismo 7 (Thanks, Eurogamer!).

The clarifications are seen in small print in PlayStation's "New Worlds to Explore" PS5 trailer, which was ed to Youtube on November 5, 2020:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHJd6QwU91A&

The trailer shows off brief footage from Horizon: Forbidden Wilds, Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, and the Demon's Souls remake.

While none of what's shown is particularly new to folks keeping up with coverage of the games, the fine print does mention that while Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls will be out in time for the PS5's November 12, 2020 launch day, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal are "anticipated" for the first half of 2021. Meanwhile, Horizon: Forbidden West is anticipated for the second half of 2021. Before this, the anticipated dates were just left vague at "2021".

Horizon: Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn, the hit open-world PS4 action game developed by Guerilla Games. The game will follow protagonist Aloy as she journeys to the titular Forbidden West on her mission to save the world. It is also in development for PS4.

The PlayStation 5 will launch in Japan and North America on November 12, 2020 alongside Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls. Horizon: Forbidden West is due in the second half of 2021.

horizon zero dawn pc

Rumors about a Horizon Zero Dawn PC version have appeared again. This time, Kotaku said that three anonymous sources have confirmed a port of the game is in development.

This is not the first time rumors about a Horizon Zero Dawn PC port have emerged. Back in December 2019, Anton Logvinov claimed that the PlayStation 4 exclusive would be coming to a new platform. (He previously talked about the Death Stranding PC version before its official announcement.) In his video claiming the Guerilla game would be going multiplatform, he suggested a February 2020 release window could be possible.

In Horizon Zero Dawn, players follow Aloy. She is a hunter in a futuristic world who has always been something of an outcast. When she finally gets what she wanted for years, cultists attack and steal it all away. In the process, she learns she has a far greater destiny and heads out to explore a large world, fighting the machine “animals” roaming around and searching for answers about herself.

Horizon Zero Dawn is also a part of the PlayStation Hits line. The Complete Edition is $19.99 and gives people the PlayStation 4 game, its The Frozen Wilds expansion, a digital art book, a PlayStation 4 theme, and extra outfits and weapons for Aloy.

Horizon Zero Dawn is immediately available for the PlayStation 4.

These wildly creative experiences deserve focus, and a champion like Shu at PlayStation who will ensure the entire SIE organization works together to better engage with independent developers through a culture of ing and celebrating their contributions to PlayStation platforms."
