Frontwing and Bushiroad will release the PC visual novel Perennial Dusk: Kinsenka worldwide on May 29, 2025, however those getting game from Steam will need to an optional Expansion Patch for the full experience. Ahead of its official debut, the official site offered access to the update, explained the situation, and made it available via Google Drive.

Frontwing and Bushiroad cited “relevant ethical standards worldwide” as the reasons behind the Expansion Patch release, and the two companies specifically referenced the Steam version as the PC storefront that would need it. It didn’t explain what changes might be present. It only noted that the “complete story” is available when it is applied. It also noted the patch is in an .exe file that will apply it after being run. The “mature content” warning on Steam specifically cited “very strong violence” and “blood,” so it is possible that this patch exists due to the brutal situations depicted in the story.

Perennial Dusk: Kinsenka is a kinetic visual novel, which means there are no choices and only one route to follow. It also seems it will be something of a tragedy, as it follows young Maledict Exorcists dealing with malevolent entities for the sake of the innocent. Sai Tachibana happens upon the cursed Matsuri Benio and finds himself falling in love with her. However, her past haunts her and her present involves working to fight Maledicts with her “gift.” As a result, he finds himself becoming closer to a number of individuals like her and himself living at Maisoncycle sans Nom.

Here is the opening movie, which shows off the characters and setting:

Perenial Dusk: Kinsenka will come to the PC on May 29, 2025, and the patch for the Steam version is live via the official site now.

Frontwing confirmed that it will release Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol.8 for PCs in February 2022. It also announced that Vol.8 will be the final volume that concludes the title's long-running story. The visual novel will be available with Japanese and English subtitles.

Vol.8 will tell the story of a major war in the Grisaia universe. Grisaia Phantom Trigger 06 on Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch has been catching up with its collection of Grisaia Phantom Trigger titles. Now Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 6 will come to the popular platform this Summer. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 6 first appeared on the PC via Steam in April 2019. It explains how the protagonist Haruto has been acting rather weirdly and that it may be connected to his late master, Aoi. As the protagonist's group makes their yearly trip to Aoi's grave, they will recall memories of their late friend.

Prototype also recently released a physical Switch cartridge that contains volumes 1 to 5 on April 28, 2021. The oddly-numbered Grisaia Phantom Trigger 5.5 also appeared digitally on the platform on January 21, 2021. All Phantom Trigger titles on the platform contain Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese subtitles. The titles also feature Japanese voiceovers for almost all characters except Haruto.

This leaves Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 7 as the only volume available on PC but yet to make its way to the Switch. The latest volume to date, released on Steam in July 2020, has more than twice the content from any prior titles. While the description for Vol 7 implied that the story is entering its final chapters, the whole series' story is not completely over yet.

The Nintendo Switch version of Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 6 will be available in Summer 2021.

sharin no kuni vita

A locked post revealed Tokyo Otaku Mode and Frontwing won’t offer a Sharin no Kuni Vita version via its official Kickstarter page. In a backer-only update, which was later shared by Godsmith2 on Reddit, it was revealed the port wouldn’t happen. It blamed the development contractor, specifically citing Frontwing as the reason for the cancellation. It also said it will offer refunds or PC copy replacements to the people who did back the game via crowdfunding or the pre-order store.

In each case, the company will offer varying refund and replacement options. Should someone go for a full refund, it will send the money back to the original credit card and PayPal . Those whose cards have expired or no longer have an will be ed starting on February 15, 2021. However, people who bought goods might not be able to get a refund depending on where and how they got them. Should someone choose a PC replacement, they will get the PC version that is digital or physical when they ship in 2021.

Here is the full statement explaining what happened with the Sharin no Kuni Vita port.

Details about the cancellation of the VITA version We believe that we should be as open as possible about the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the development of the VITA game version, and as such we will share with our backers the circumstances that led up to this point.

From the beginning, the VITA development schedule suffered the effects of the delays from the development of the PC game version, but here we will focus on the developments in the last year and a half after the change of the publisher.

In the July 2019 update, we announced that our publisher agreement with Limited Run Games (LRG) had been dissolved and that we would be working from that moment on with the Hong Kong-based publisher Eastasiasoft Limited (EAS). The reason for this change was to avoid the issue of the VITA manufacturing ending in North America within that same year. The project team knew that by changing the publisher to a different region, the manufacturing deadline would also change, so we outsourced the pre-production and game development of the VITA version to a certain development company that has a license to develop VITA games, and rearranged the schedule in order to meet the deadline.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes it brought to workplaces all over the world affected that schedule, the completed master data of the game was scheduled to be delivered by October 2020 at the latest.

However, at the last minute, that date was changed and the game was not delivered to us in October due to circumstances with the development company, and the project team was not able to confirm the actual product until November. Even more problematic than that was the fact that the game was confirmed to have many bugs, including fatal flaws, at that stage, and additional development time was inevitable.

However, even at this stage and during all this time, we had repeatedly asked the development company for a clear deadline for the mastering of the VITA version in order to manufacture the cartridges by the end of the year. We set a manufacturing schedule for production through discussions with Eastasiasoft, shared this information with the development company, and the development company responded that they expected to meet this deadline.

Until the very last moment, the project team still believed that the game production was going to finish and enter the manufacturing stage, but in the end the multiple issues that kept appearing during development and the additional time required to fix every one of them resulted in the developer not being able to meet the deadline discussed with EAS. We are currently in negotiations about the liability issues derived from the failure of the development contractor to meet the delivery date.

Even after last year's delivery date had ed, throughout the month of January the project team had been studying and searching for alternative methods through various channels, including EAS, but in February it became clear that we would have to abandon the production of the VITA version, and this is why we are making this announcement.

One thing we would like to make clear is that the schedule and development estimates that we have reported in updates and comments until now were never false: they were always based on the information that was shared with us in our meetings with the development company that we outsourced the project to. We believed that we would be able to deliver the VITA game version to everyone until the very end.

As you can see, the direct cause of the cancellation of the development of the VITA game version was the overdue delivery date of the development contractor, but the final responsibility for the situation, including the management of the contractor, lies with the project team, or to be more precise, Frontwing, who is the main organizer of the project and in charge of the development management.

We would like to make clear that AKABEi SOFT2, Eastasiasoft Limited, Limited Run Games, and Tokyo Otaku Mode Inc., which have been mentioned before as project , have no role or responsibility in the delay or cancellation of the game, including the VITA version. Please refrain from ing these companies individually with any complaints or inquiries.

The Sharin no Kuni Vita and PC Kickstarter began back on November 21, 2016 and raised $188,176 from 2,427 people during its successful campaign. While it had an expected August 2017 release window, it still hasn’t appeared on any platform. In the December 2020 update, Frontwing said it expected the PC digital and physical versions to finally appear in March 2021.

Sharin no Kuni is available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, and PC in Japan.

Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 5.5

Another volume in the Grisaia Phantom Trigger visual novel series will come to Nintendo Switch. Frontwing will release Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 5.5 on the popular platform digitally in January 2021. It will be priced at 1,364 yen in the Japanese Nintendo eShop. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

The oddly-numbered volume gives the spotlight to Arisaka Shiori, who works as a teacher at Mihama Academy, the visual novel series's main setting. Arisaka will ponder to herself whether she still wants to continue teaching in a 'school filled with assassins.'

The article also revealed that Frontwing will bundle the first five Grisaia Phantom Trigger volumes into a single physical package. This bundle is slated for release in Summer 2021. These five volumes are already available digitally, with additional English and Chinese subtitles, on the Nintendo eShop. The first two volumes are even already bundled in a single digital pack.

At this rate, it will be just a matter of time until all Phantom Trigger volumes are brought to the Switch. Two more volumes are currently available only on PCs: Vol 6 and Vol 7. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.] The oddly-numbered volume gives the spotlight to Arisaka Shiori, who works as a teacher at Mihama Academy, the visual novel series's main setting. Arisaka will ponder to herself whether she still wants to continue teaching in a 'school filled with assassins.' The article also revealed that Frontwing will bundle the first five Grisaia Phantom Trigger volumes into a single physical package. The visual novels were also released on the PlayStation Vita, but it only went until the fourth volume after for the portable console was discontinued. Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 5.5 will be available for Nintendo Switch in January 2021.

Grisaia Phantom Trigger

Yet another volume in the Grisaia Phantom Trigger series is making its way to the Nintendo Switch. Volume 5 will be available on the popular console on November 19, 2020. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

The fifth volume focuses on Murasaki. Her more sociable elder sister Yuuki returns to Japan and immediately befriends everyone else in Class A, causing Murasaki to question her purpose for being. Lines for almost all characters—except the protagonist—are fully voiced in this visual novel.

The Switch version will have more features implemented. Other than an Auto Mode, there is also a feature that prevents automatic sleep while playing movies. You will also be able to jump to a specific message selected from the backlog.

At this rate, it is just a matter of time until all existing Grisaia Phantom Trigger volumes are available on the Switch. Volumes 1 and 2 were first released simultaneously in June 2020. The third volume followed in July, and the fourth was recently released on September 17, 2020. All volumes released on Switch so far also ed English and Chinese subtitles. The remaining ones still yet to have a Switch port announced are volumes 5.5, 6, and 7—the latest one released on PCs (and is also available on Steam with English subtitles) on July 22, 2020.

Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol. 5 will be released on the Nintendo Switch on November 19, 2020. It is also immediately available worldwide on PCs via Steam. Note that the above screenshot is taken from the PC version.

More parts of the Grisaia series are heading to a new platform. In Japan, the first two parts of the Grisaia Phantom Trigger Switch port are about to appear. On June 25, 2020, people will be able to head to the eShop to pick up Vol. 1 & 2. They will cost 2,000円 (~$19).

An English release of these first parts of the Grisaia Phantom Trigger Switch port hasn’t been announced yet. (The original The Grisaia Trilogy did appear in North America and Europe in November 2019.) However, there is some good news for people. The official website does list English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese as the three subtitle options.

If you want a little taste of Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol. 1 & 2 Switch, you can now catch the opening movie. A trailer has been shared showing it off. It also lets you hear the theme song “Edge of my World,” which is performed by Marina Kawano. (She also performed the Natsume’s Book of Friends ending theme “Takaramono.”

The Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 1 & 2 Switch version will launch in Japan on June 25, 2020. It is also available on the PlayStation Vita and PC in Japan. As a reminder, this is a kinetic visual novel, so you won’t be making choices as you play.
