hatsune miku fitness boxing review

Fiction usually depicts nerds and gamers in two extremes: a big dude inhaling burgers while lying on the couch, or a scrawny beanpole of a person with long hair and big glasses. Very unfortunately, I am the type who prefers lying around all day while munching on snacks. You can imagine the wonders that does to my figure. But never fear, fellow nerds and gamers who can’t be bothered to slot the Joy-Cons into the Ring Fit ring every day! Hatsune Miku and her Vocaloid friends are here to whip you into shape with some fitness boxing in Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku, and she’s ready to throw hands.

For starters, something that you’ll notice when you boot up the game is that the Vocaloids all speak in their native Japanese. However, the instructor who coaches you through your exercises speaks in English. It personally is a little jarring to hear a Vocaloid’s synthetic voice chitter away at me in Japanese, followed by Lin, carefully enunciating every syllable, telling me (in English) to keep my back straight. It didn't take long for me to sort of tune it out while exercising, but it was a little distracting on the first day.

Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku is pretty much what it says on the tin. An instructor tells you what to do or reminds you what proper form is. Meanwhile, a Vocaloid of your choice boxes with you while offering words of encouragement. They're nice even if you mess up your combo, and the positive atmosphere made it easy to keep going every day. Miku Exercise is the mode where you get to box to a Vocaloid song. I’m a fan of the selection, which features classics like “Melt” all the way to “The Vampire.” Other favorites include “Melancholic,” “World End Dancehall,” and “Romeo and Cinderella.” I’m hoping that DLC in the future will introduce some more songs and Vocaloid partners.

In Fitness Boxing, you have to punch and move while staying in rhythm. The action the game wants you to do appears on screen, like Beat Saber or a more violent version of Colorful Stage. You start out with simple jabs and straights, then move on to hooks and uppercuts, before finally adding in dodges like sways. So the more you play, the more variation you’ll get in your daily workout. Of course, you can also go straight to the Miku Exercise and jump past all the combo lessons if you’re confident in your skills.

When I first started fitness boxing, I thought that it wasn’t as useful as Ring Fit. The physical ring that you have to use, as well as all the different kinds of exercise you can do in that game, made it feel like I was getting a lot more out of my workout. But as I continued on my fitness boxing journey, certain stretches and moves became easier than they were when I first started. That was a great feeling. I don’t understand why I never get that satisfied sense of exhaustion I always felt after yoga or Ring Fit, but maybe my daily workouts need to be a lot longer than thirty to forty minutes per session.

Since I tossed my scale ages ago for mental health reasons, I don’t know the effect Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku has on my weight or my waist line. I certainly feel better though! Compared to Ring Fit, it's way easier to boot up, so I'm less tempted to skip a day or two out of sheer laziness. Though my review ends here, my fitness journey has only just begun.

Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku is readily available on the Nintendo Switch.

Aksys Picks Up Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku

Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku is going to be available for exercise “classes” worldwide, with Aksys confirming it is responsible for the English release outside Japan. People will see it on the Switch in more regions in Fall 2024.

This latest entry in the Fitness Boxing series has already been available in Japan for quite a while. It debuted in the region back in March 2024. People get to work out alongside Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloids like Megurine Luka and Kagamine Rin and Len. Though for those familiar with past games Evan and Lin also return. When people go through the various punches and moves, which are sensed by holding a Switch Joy-Con in each hand, you’ll have the option of using Vocaloid songs as background music.

Here’s the first Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku English teaser trailer. It is incredibly brief and just shows Miku in her standard costume punching. In-game, all four Vocaloids will be wear workout clothing in addition to their classic outfits.

This is the second Fitness Boxing crossover to show up in recent years. Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star ended up appearing worldwide too. As you can imagine, it mean working out with characters from the anime.

Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku is available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan and will head to other regions in Fall 2024.

It turns out Fit Boxing feat Hatsune Miku, part of the Fitness Boxing series, will feature other Vocaloid characters as trainers. Imagineer confirmed Kagamine Len, Kagamine Rin, and Megurine Luka will also show up.

Initially, Miku was the only character confirmed to appear in the rhythm and exercise game. All videos and screenshots only showed her. However, the latest announcement confirmed Len, Rin, and Luka will also be characters you can choose. They will then show up on screen as the person whose movements you’ll need to follow, as well as offer like trainers in other Fitness Boxing games

A number of new screenshots showing the additional characters showed up on the official site. While none of them show Rin in action, the new images do feature both Len and Luka. You can take a look at them in the gallery below.

There’s also a new trailer for the game. It features a cosMo song called “Let’s Mikusasaizu,” as a sort of pun combining “Miku” and “exercise.” It offers a brief clip of the track while showing some of the exercise segments with Hatsune Miku as a trainer.

The Japanese version of the September 2023 Nintendo Direct confirmed the release date for Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku. The fitness training game that stars the Vocaloid idol will be available physically and digitally on the Nintendo Switch on March 7, 2024.

The Japanese Direct trailer informed us that this collaboration game with Hatsune Miku will have the same interface as Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise. Imagineer's press release added that two instructors from the original Fitness Boxing 2, Lin and Evan, will also appear to Miku in the Exercise Mode.

Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku will also have a new "Mixercise" mode that synchronizes the training regiments with some of Miku's popular songs, such as "Melt" by ryo and "Vampire" by DECO*27.

Imagineer had previously revealed Fitness Boxing feat Hatsune Miku at the beginning of September 2023. However, its first trailer did not include a release date. This Fitness Boxing game will be one of the numerous collaborations that Crypton set up to celebrate Hatsune Miku's 16th birthday. The company has also announced Project Voltage, where Hatsune Miku will perform new songs related to the Pokemon franchise.

Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku will be available for Nintendo Switch in Japan on March 7, 2024.
