Square Enix has opened pre-orders for a Dragon Quest Walk fan book to mark the mobile game's 5th anniversary, which fell in September 2024. People can place orders for the book on the Japanese Square Enix e-Store at 1,980 yen (~$13.30). The company will release the book in mid-November 2024.

This book will contain numerous articles that will interest players of the Dragon Quest-themed location-based game. Besides a dialogue between Yuji Horii and the mobile game's producer Takamasa Shiba, the book will also contain a new analysis of the players' gameplay behaviors. In addition, it will also have coverage of in-game souvenir items from playing the game in Taiwan, which Square Enix has made available since March 2023.

Each copy of the book will also contain a spell code that rewards a Metal King Coin in the actual game. Square Enix will set up a webpage where people can input the code in mid-November 2024.

Square Enix first launched Dragon Quest Walk for iOS and Android mobile devices in Japan on September 12, 2019. The company recorded over 5 million s for the game a week after launch, which it also owed to the Dragon Quest series' sheer popularity in Japan despite releasing the game only in the country. More than four-and-a-half years later in April 2024, Sensor Tower revealed that revenue from the game had exceeded $2 billion.

The Dragon Quest Walk 5th Anniversary Official Fan Book will be available on November 15, 2024.

As of April 24, 2024, Dragon Quest Walk made over $2 billion in revenue for Square Enix. It reached this milestone under five years. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

This information comes from Sensor Tower, which released an analysis report of Dragon Quest Walk on April 24, 2024. Aside from analyzing how much money Dragon Quest Walk accumulated per year, we can also see that it makes the most revenue out of all of Square Enix’s mobile games. When it comes to similar games, people are also spending far more time on Dragon Quest Walk compared to Pikmin Bloom and Pokemon Go. Players spend an average of 192 minutes per week on Pokemon Go and 154 minutes on Pikmin Bloom. In comparison, people average 545 minutes weekly on Dragon Quest Walk.

As mentioned earlier, Dragon Quest Walk is very similar to Pokemon Go and Pikmin Bloom. It’s an AR game in which the phone uses your location information to send your character on adventures. You can also fight various monsters to level up and get items, as well as interact with characters. The quest system makes players go to real-world locations, which will unlock more enemies and characters. As of the time of writing, the game is only available in Japan.

Dragon Quest Walk is readily available on mobile devices in Japan.

014 Dragon Quest Walk was announced last month as a new augmented reality smartphone game for the series. Square Enix shared screenshots and details explaining how it plays.   In Dragon Quest Walk players become the protagonist guided by a “mysterious voice” in a new kind of RPG where they’ll walk in a world of Dragon Quest that’s been fused with the real world. In the game you’ll select quests and work your way to the objective, defeating monsters and meeting new characters along the way. Furthermore, you can make a “home” anywhere you want.   In today’s update from Square Enix, we get details explaining the Main Quest game flow. When selecting a quest you’ll see several objectives appear on the map, and from there you choose a place you want to go and simply walk there.   Quests have everything from doing favors for villagers to battles against powerful foes. New allies the party as you advance through the Main Quests.   Here’s an example of how a quest works:   Select a quest 001 Dragon Quest Walk’s story is told through a series of quests.   Select a destination 002 After accepting a quest you’ll see several destinations on the map. Select the destination of your choice.   Destination appears. Make your way to the real-life destination

 003 004

Next, you walk to your destination. You might encounter some familiar monsters on the way.   Arrive to the destination where a tough monster fight may await

009 010

When you arrive to the destination you’ll advance through the story. Make progress through quests by talking to different people.   Quest Clear! 012   Fighting monsters to level up You’ll level as you defeat the many monsters that appear on the field. By leveling, you’ll learn new spells and skills, so you’ll want to make sure you’re leveled high enough to take on tough enemies. Furthermore, there’s a Monster Bestiary to each monster you encounter.

005 006

When encountering monsters, defeat them using attacks and skill commands, and level up with experience points.   008 The urn-like object is a “Recovery Spot” where you can go to recover your HP and MP. If you lose HP and MP after battles, be sure to go to these spots.   007 You’ll also encounter the likes of Metal Slimes that are known for being difficult to hit but reward you with an abundance of EXP.   011 There are also dungeons in Dragon Quest Walk. These dungeons have extra tough monsters so you’ll need to bring  your A game and a party of allies to take on.   013 Dragon Quest Walk releases for iOS and Android in Japan in 2019. You can check out its announcement trailer in our previous report.
