Arc System Works and WayForward have released the Double Dragon DLC pack for River City Girls 2. The earlier reveals in April and August 2024 noted that the DLC would be out in 2024. With the pack released today, the companies have kept their promise of releasing it within the year.

The company is basing the Lee brothers' appearances on their debuts in the inaugural 1987 arcade release. However, the characters will have voiceovers by the more recent voice actors. Billy and Jimmy are voiced in Japanese by Kazuyuki Okitsu and Takehito Koyasu—the same voice actors are also providing lines for the characters in the 2025 game Double Dragon Revive. Meanwhile, Starbomb's Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson are the English voice actors for the respective characters.

After purchasing and installing this DLC pack, players can have the Lee brothers as not only new playable characters but also their inclusion in the game's storyline. The set also adds a new dojo master named Boro. A vocal song performed by Starbomb completes the DLC pack's content lineup.

River City Girls 2 is readily playable worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The Double Dragon DLC for River City Girls 2 is now available on all the above platforms.

Arc System Works has formally revealed Double Dragon Revive by publishing its official website and trailer. Following an early reveal in the Weekly Famitsu magazine, the company confirmed that the new game will be available simultaneously worldwide in 2025.

This new game will bring back the classic belt-scrolling beat 'em up game with a modern 3D presentation. Like most of the prior series entries, players will take the roles of the martial artists William "Billy" Lee and James "Jimmy" Lee. The game will be playable in both single-player and two-player co-op; both characters will appear simultaneously in the latter.

The Steam page reveals that Yuke's, the development studio best known for wrestling games like WWE 2K19 and AEW Fight Forever, is working on this new game. It also hinted that the game will have an online mode with in-game chat.

The page also shows that Double Dragon Revive will be available with voiceovers in Japanese and English. It will also have additional subtitle options in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

According to the latest issue of weekly magazine Famitsu, Double Dragon Revive will be the next title in the long running beat ‘em up franchise. The game will feature 3D graphics and is expected to release in 2025 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

The new Double Dragon game was first reported by leaker ryokutya2089. The game is reportedly being developed by Arc System Works. Protagonist brother duo Billy and Jimmy Lee and recurring series enemies Roper and Abobo will receive revamped designs in a new “stylish 3D” art style. In addition, the game’s classic control scheme and difficulty level have been adjusted for modern gaming standards.

As a reminder, the latest title in the series to release is Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, which appeared for current and last gen platforms and PC back in July 27, 2023, and featured roguelite elements. The game received the Sacred Reunion free able expansion on April 2024, and it included new playable characters, various game modes, upgrades, and online co-op functionality.

Double Dragon Revive is currently in development for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC and will appear sometime in 2025.

Modus Games revealed a new entry in the Double Dragon franchise under the name of Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons. It will be the first new game in the series after the release of Double Dragon IV back in 2017. Moreover, it will be coming to most current consoles with couch co-op available.

This game will follow the twins Billy and Jimmy Lee in 199X as they fight to take back New York City from the gangs after a nuclear war. It will have a roster of 13 playable characters, including the iconic Marian and newcomer Uncle Matin, each with their own moveset. According to the game’s Steam page, it will local co-op and remote play, but we don't see any mention of an online multiplayer option yet.

As for the gameplay, it will be a beat 'em up like other games in the franchise, but will include “roguelite elements” according to the game’s official site. You will be able to choose the mission order, and this in turn will define the length, number of enemies, and difficulty of your playthrough.

Among some of the new mechanics, it will introduce a new tag team playstyle which will let players quickly change characters to get out of danger or complete a combo. There will also be an in-game shop to unlock characters, tips, and more via tokens earned on each playing session.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is planned for a Summer 2023 release. It will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Switch.

MonkeyPaw Games are bringing six more import PSOne Classics to the PlayStation Network over the next few weeks, starting today. The first game to be made available will be Double Dragon, but not the Double Dragon you know.

This is a Double Dragon fighting game, based on the movie, and was never released outside of Japan. Originally developed for the Neo-Geo and later ported to the PlayStation, it includes both Billy and Jimmy Lee are playable characters, along with a number of others.

Double Dragon will be available today for $5.99, and MonkeyPaw have released gameplay footage of it, which you can check out above.

After being dormant for years, Double Dragon made a comeback starting with the iPhone remake from Aksys Games and then a brand new game from WayForward. This year we got the odd 3D remake of Double Dragon II on Xbox Live Arcade and just a few days ago Double Dragon Trilogy.

Siliconera hears the Double Dragon fighting game for PsOne will be released in North America as a digital import in the near future. This game was originally released for NeoGeo and was actually the last Double Dragon game from Technos. In addition to Billy and Jimmy, you can play as Marian who got kidnapped in the earlier games (why didn't she fight back then is beyond me), Abobo, and other Double Dragon bosses.

Arc System Works and Million, the company that holds the rights to Double Dragon, will bring the Famicom game to Nintendo 3DS. Double Dragon will be released as a 500 yen ($5.50) Virtual Console on February 6.

Technos also made a monochrome Double Dragon port for Game Boy, which came out as a 3DS Virtual Console port last year.

A leak from Korea's Game Rating Board revealed a Double Dragon game is coming to a PlayStation platform in the future. Double Dragon was rated with SCEK linked as the publisher. While Sony has not announced any new Double Dragon games, a Korean company is working on a Double Dragon II remake for Xbox Live Arcade.

So, what is this Double Dragon game? Our guess is a digital re-release of this PsOne Double Dragon game.

Aksys will be releasing two Double Dragon games on Nintendo’s Virtual Console service in the near future. One of them has a release date. Double Dragon for the Game Boy will be released on the 3DS Virtual Console on October 20th.

Additionally, the NES version of Double Dragon 2 is slated for release on the Wii Virtual Console sometime in the near future as well. That game doesn’t have a release date.

The Game Archives section has also been updated with Double Dragon (the NeoGeo fighting game), Strikers 1945 II, The Tiny Kingdom of Eltria, and Doki Doki Shutter Challenge. That last title is actually one of Nippon Ichi Software's old games where players race to complete jigsaw puzzles by dragging pieces with a character. It's similar to Jigsaw World which was for the Nintendo DS.

Japanese 3DS owners can play Double Dragon on the go. Nintendo put the Game Boy version on the Nintendo eShop, which is based on the NES release albeit with different level designs. Don't worry Abobo is still in the game. Arc System Works is listed as the publisher, so there's a fair chance Aksys could release Double Dragon overseas. After all, they handled the iPhone version.

Late in the Game Boy's lifespan, Nintendo decided to remake some of their Game & Watch games with Mario and Game Boy Gallery (aka Game & Watch Gallery in North America) was born. The first installment has Manhole, Octopus, Oil Panic, and Fire… where you rescue stars and baby Yoshis. Both games cost 400 yen ($5) a piece.

After Technos Japan folded, Million picked up the company's intellectual properties such as Kunio-Kun and Double Dragon. While we've seen a bunch of Kunio-Kun sports games, Million hasn't done to much with Double Dragon.

Well, until now. With Aksys as the publisher, Million gave the original Double Dragon a complete overhaul. They kept the story, Marian gets kidnapped and you have to rescue her by beating up the Black Warriors. Billy and Jimmy could just fork over the Sousetsuken scrolls, but then we wouldn't have a game. Double Dragon for iPhone has a new different attacks, enemies, bosses, and hidden characters to find. The artwork is completely different and this version has remixed music.

Brizo Interactive, the studio that developed Double Dragon for the Zeebo, are behind the iPhone game. Aksys will release Double Dragon on iTunes in March.
