I love Little Kitty, Big City. Even though it is probably a four or five hour game, I’m at double that due to enjoying messing around in its world. Which is why I can’t help but hope for more. It feels like Little Kitty, Big City would be even better if Double Dagger Studios decided to make DLC.

The first reason I feel like DLC would be fantastic for Little Kitty, Big City is that it could fit in pretty much at any time. Open up new areas? You could enjoy it right away or in the post-game. It’s the sort of game that feels like it lends itself to perhaps more to-do items being added to the cat’s list. Especially since there are opportunities for them to or not to include additional NPCs. Maybe have a task that involves getting characters to photograph you. Perhaps add challenges tied to already present elements like the little putting green.

The fact that there are also places in the city now that look like they could lead to new places in a Little Kitty, Big City expansion are also perfect excuses to say, “The DLC could go here.” There are a lot of puddles around. Some of it seems like it is due to rain or people using hoses. Others look like they are tied to construction. Well, maybe if Double Dagger wanted to explore work on an add-on, remove the water or make it possible for the kitty to jump or sneak past those spots to access a new neighborhood.

Not to mention, there’s an awkward number of cat hats currently present in Little Kitty, Big City. There are 42 available. This means there are even two gaps in the in-game menu with “space” for two more. Even if there wouldn’t be an expansion that makes the Big City even bigger, some add-ons that bumped the number up 44 to eliminate the game would be great. Or, I mean, just give us more hats and bump that number up to 48 or 60. Kitty deserves a big wardrobe.

I suppose it all comes down to my loving Little Kitty, Big City so much that I want DLC so I can send the cat out on the town again. Yes, I could always replay it. Going into my cleared save to explore for fun is an option too. However, I can’t help but want to make more fun animal friends and experience more of these lighthearted adventures in an expansion.

Little Kitty, Big City is available for the Nintendo Switch , Xbox Series X, and PC, and no DLC has been announced.

First Little Kitty, Big City Patch Fixes Clipping and Collision Bugs

Double Dagger Studio announced that people should stop seeing Little Kitty, Big City clipping and collision bugs in its first patch. It is on the PC via Steam now and will head to the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X in the near future.

There is no new content in this first Little Kitty, Big City patch. Rather, 36 bugs and other problems are fixed in the update. Seven instances where there were collision issues are now repaired. The major clipping problem applies to the Kyoto home.

Some of the other changes are quality of life ones. For example, the Little Kitty, Big City quest involving the tennis balls belonging to Potato the Shiba Inu will make gathering them easier. It also won’t be possible to skip the first meeting with the crow and get locked out of progression.

Here are the full patch notes as shared on Steam:

  • fixed being able to open the emote menu when pawing
  • fixed being able to take a photo during the outro (and some other periods as well)
  • made improvements to the doggo quest and pushing balls
  • fixed bad collision on the kyoto style house which allowed players to clip into the building and get trapped inside
  • improved the kitty being carried behavior
  • fixed not being able to get the shiny jar on the vent near the shrine pond area
  • fixed areas that could allow the player to skip Crow and break other quests
  • improved collision inside and outside the convenience store
  • improved the collision in the arcade
  • improved the collision behavior of some of the larger, unpickupable small props (like the robot and gecku toys)
  • fixed some awkward and bad collision in the Gecku store
  • fixed a spot where you could get up on the train tracks from the back side of the construction yard and get out of bounds (and not be able to get back to the construction yard)
  • fixed the clips that cover the train tracks and prevent players front jumping on it from working
  • fixed some areas in the doggo yard where a ball could potentially fall out and/or get stuck
  • closed up a hole player could fall out of behind the covered bike structure
  • fixed a handful of trashcans that would let you enter them on the wall side and when you exited, would place you through the wall
  • major improvements to player collision code
  • fixed one of the nests falling from it's spawn spot in some cases
  • fixed the busting birds quest not counting a nest in some cases and will retroactively fix it for players who this happened to
  • fixed the pine tree needles having box shadows
  • fixed humans pushing around boxes or fans
  • fixed players being jump scared if they are interacting with a box, trashcan, etc, or being carried
  • added a failsafe for resetting the player if they happen to fall out of the map
  • added an "Unstick Me!" button to the gameplay options menu ONLY TO BE USED IN EMERGENCIES
  • added a failsafe for when tanuki is in the post pull state, but pre teleport state, to make sure she's in the right spot and enabled
  • fixed being able to open the esc menu and also open photo mode when the portal map was open and you were selecting a teleport destination
  • dev commands are no longer accessible in the release builds
  • improved auto saving to not happen in times that would cause an issue
  • fixed the camera wall detect using a box collider that was twice as big as it should be
  • if a player is stuck inside a volume when loading a save, we now put you in a safe, unstuck position
  • fixed fans pushing kitty TOO MUCH which caused players to fall out of the map or worse
  • fix trip not working on banana after picking it up
  • fixed some ground collisions that were concave mesh colliders and didn't properly detect collision when falling onto them
  • fixed a bunch of areas around the construction yard to help prevent people getting themselves stuck by getting out in creative ways
  • fixed a rare bug that would happen exiting photo mode where the main camera wouldn't re-enable
  • fixed a rare bug when exiting photo mode where kitty would get punted across the world and trigger random things along the way (like the outro, lol)

Review: Little Kitty, Big City Makes Every Day Caturday

Did you play Untitled Goose Game and love it, but also wish that maybe you didn’t have to be so mean? Well, Little Kitty, Big City offers the same sort of animal antics, only with more innocent mischief and an array of additional critters that make a city feel like a welcoming, living community.

Little Kitty, Big City begins with a comedy of errors. A small cat living in a penthouse apartment is lounging outside the window, sleeping. During this nap, they slip. A series of outside interference, such as a dog barking and a crow flying by, result in the animal landing on the street below. Too sapped of strength to commit to the arduous climb back to their home, it’s up to the cat to find fish to build up stamina and return home. Eventually.

Like Untitled Goose Game, Little Kitty, Big City is a game that involves a small animal exploring a town and interacting with the individuals who love there. However, while the goose was an antagonistic force determined to disrupt the peaceful village, the cat is an innocent, well-intentioned sweetheart who wants the best for the creatures around them as they also attempt to find some fish to eat. However, in the process of doing things for others and themselves, they… basically can also end up ruining a human’s day. Think of it as this being a hero of one story is the villain of another sort of situation.

Given the kitty is just, well, a cat, there are a handful of options for interacting with and exploring the world. When you first land in the city, you can swat with your paws. This can be an effective way of batting balls places or knocking down people. You can get the zoomies, which lets the kitty run around. It’s a faster way to move around or barrel into people or objects. Items can be picked up in your mouth to take them places. You can pull certain boxes. It is also possible to jump, which can allow you to reach higher places or pounce on birds. Eventually, you gain access to a Petwork, which lets you fast travel via manholes, and eating your first fish grants the ability to climb up ivy-covered areas as long as your stamina allows. Also, as this is a world where apparently all animals, birds, and bugs speak the same language, you can converse with creatures you come across to get quests.

Which often leads to the parts of Little Kitty, Big City that bring a player the most joy. Not only the kitty, but every critter you encounter is a delight. The script is absolutely fantastic. It’s adorable, clever, and hilarious. Each animal, bird, or bug has their own personality, making it a delight whenever someone new enters your virtual life. The animations for animals, especially the cat’s emotes, are fun. While I appreciate what is there, it made me wish there were double or triple the number of ing characters, given they are handled so well. Not to mention, every single one of them looks amazing. I love them all.

The activities are also a ball. I relished undertaking each quest. Even if it ended up being something of a fetch quest, the actions needed to accomplish it usually made it feel more special and entertaining than it would in a normal game. Especially since in some cases, you do need to think, “Okay, how can I, as a cat, get this done?” Working out how to find and eat fish, get the shinies needed for new hats, or reach a place for a reward was never boring or tedious.

There’s only one thing that got to me and keep me from considering Little Kitty, Big City a perfect game. The platforming elements can be awkward. Some challenges involve quick moves with a human in pursuit and either small spaces or water hazards. Getting the jumping or zoomies timing just right in these moments can be a bit tricky. I also encountered some issues while scaling a certain apartment building and moving between platforms. One jump involving some scaffolding led to a major drop and lost progress, and my quickly loading a past save to ensure I didn’t end up with a save that lost a lot of work. One conversation involving some NPCs in that same building also displayed awkwardly, not showing the kitty or any NPCs and cutting off the text boxes a bit due to the positioning. Still, these are minor issues, and a patch came in after that event segment that makes me suspect that one issue could have already been fixed.

Little Kitty, Big City makes me happy. It isn’t the most addictive game I played in 2024. (That’s Balatro.) It isn’t the one I spent the most time exploring. (FFVII Rebirthtakes that title.) What it did do is bring me a sense of solace and joy as I savored the antics of an extremely personable cat and their friends. So much so that my greatest wish is an expansion that opens up even more of the city to explore and additional animal encounters.

Little Kitty, Big City is available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC.
