Bandai Namco’s been sharing details about Digimon Story: Time Stranger characters on social media, and we now know a lot more about the cast and various Digimon set to appear as a result. While some of the early announcements about the game confirmed Dan Yuki and Kanan Yuki as protagonists and Patamon, Gomamon, or DemiDevimon as the starters, the latest few images and trailers highlighted other important people. 

First, here’s a gallery of the latest images highlighting Dan and Kanan, which point out their roles at the Special Investigation Bureau ADAMAS, and their three possible partners. The descriptions for the partners highlight their special moves, attributes, and types as well.

Some of the new additions introduced Inori Misono and her partner Digimon Aegiomon, who will both fight alongside us when we go through the story. In the case of Inori, supposedly an incident in her past shaped who she is today and set her on this course, but we don't know what it is yet.

One of the places we’ll visit in the game is Central Town, where the Iliad Digimon live. It is run by the Mega Deity Merukimon. While he’s an ally and person we’ll turn to in the game, it’s unknown if he’ll actually fight alongside us as well. This is a Digimon we’ve seen in past games, and it also appeared in both Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memory.

The other reveals involved short trailers of Digimon we’ll meet, fight, and perhaps even recruit on social media. Here’s the full list of links of them, as well as their types and attributes.

More information on the game Digimon Story: Time Stranger was shared during a presentation at Digimon Con 2025, including a better look at the main characters and story. The game itself is still expected to release sometime in 2025, and it has been confirmed to be coming to both the PC and Xbox Series X/S as well as PS5 consoles.

The new details were shown off by Producer Ryosuke Hara, who explained that the new game's Human World areas will focus on the Shinjuku and Akihabara areas of Tokyo. Meanwhile, visits to the Digital World will be more frequent than in the Cyber Sleuth games. The new player characters in Digimon Story: Time Stranger are named Dan Yuki and Kanan Yuki, and they are elite operators from an organization that investigates anomalies. Players will choose which of the two to control, with the other character going on to provide from the organization's headquarters. Additionally, Hara confirmed that players will be able to choose Patamon, Gomamon, or DemiDevimon as their starting Digimon, though the game will feature over 450 obtainable Digimon in total.

The first we heard of the game was back in February 2025, when a placeholder listing appeared on the Gamestop online store ahead of its official announcement. Said announcement came a little later during the 2025 Sony State of Play alongside a launch trailer.

Ever since I was little, I have adored the Digimon series. I always found the various anime series to be far better than Pokemon’s anime, but the games were always severely lacking to me. That was, at least, until the Cyber Sleuth games. The turn-based combat and in-depth Digimon evolution system reeled me in for hundreds of hours. With Digimon Story: Time Stranger on the horizon, there are a few features and improvements I want to see.

For starters, bigger isn’t always better in of the amount of Digimon that will be available in Digimon Story: Time Stranger. The last game in this JRPG sub-series had nearly 350 different ones to choose from. While more is welcome, such as around 400 Digimon in total, I want to see more of a focus on quality than quantity.

There were only a couple of brand new, original Digimon featured in Hacker’s Memory. Almost every single Digimon in that game already existed in some form or another. And the totally new ones? Well, you’d have to get pretty deep into the experience to check them out. That needs to change for this title.

I’d like to see more original Digimon, especially early on. It doesn’t have to be a lot — maybe 15-20 — but it’d be nice if the three starters you can pick from were all brand new monsters. This would immediately surprise players and provide tons of replayability since players would want to know what the others turn into.

Another feature that would be great would be player customization. The protagonists of the previous two titles were pretty much set in stone in design. It appears this may be a similar situation in the title, but it would at least be nice to have clothing options. This would give you more stores to buy from, which would be neat in a fashion-forward location like Tokyo where places like Shibuya and Harajuku exist.

From there, it would be nice to have an expansion of the Digimon systems. The Digi Farm is a great part of the previous games. You could leave Digimon behind to level up and the like. I’d love to see an expansion of this, such as the ability to farm for special evolution materials that are otherwise a challenge to get. It would also be nice to have a breeding system of sorts. It is a grind to find certain Digimon and it is annoying having to constantly devolve and Digivolve rarer ones to see the other evolutions.

Finally, there is the element of Digimon Story: Time Stranger multiplayer. There were light multiplayer options available in the previous titles, such as battling online. I would like to see a full expansion of this aspect. Let there be rooms or hub areas you can explore online alongside others. Having a more co-op focus would be thrilling and encourage playing more.

In addition, maybe these hub areas could act as places to challenge other players to battles or, dare I say, trade. Trading would be an intriguing feature. It isn’t a requirement, but it would help with some of the grind to obtain fan-favorite Digimon.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is suddenly one of my most anticipated games of 2025. I spent over 100 hours with both Cyber Sleuth games in the past and I fully expect to do the same here. While more of the same is better in this experience, there is room for improvements and changes. If Digimon Story: Time Stranger can bring more original Digimon, improve online, and bring player customization, it could be a must-play monster-collector and JRPG in 2025.

Bandai Namco and Toei Animation have published the list of content they will reveal at Digimon Con 2025. One of the highlighted entries will be the revelation of new crossover merchandise between the Digimon and Godzilla franchises.

The Digimon - Godzilla crossover is listed under the Toy category, but further details on the merchandise are still very scarce as of mid-February 2025. It is yet to be known whether the crossover will simply pair Digimon with Kaiju or if there will be Digimon versions of the giant creatures, such as Godzillamon or Mothramon.

The crossover toy will be one of the seven topics covered at Digimon Con 2025. The game segment will have new details on Digimon Story: Time Stranger, which Bandai Namco revealed recently at the February 2025 State of Play. There will also be a new project announced besides Digimon Card Game in the card segment.

Meanwhile, the anime segment will show the Digimon Adventure -Beyond- video to mark the 25th anniversary of the Digimon anime series. As a reminder, the first Digimon Adventure anime appeared in 1999, while its sequel Digimon Adventure 02 followed in 2000.

The remaining segments in Digimon Con 2025 will cover a special concert for the Music category, new information for Digimon comics, and goods or merchandise made specifically to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Digimon Adventure 02 in 2025.

Digimon Con 2025 will run in Japan on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at noon JST. People living in the Americas will also be able to watch the show simultaneously live on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 7 PM PST or 10 PM EST.

Bandai Namco has announced a new game in the Digimon Story series, subtitled Time Stranger. The game is set to release sometime in 2025, with the only confirmed platform being Playstation 5.

The announcement came via a trailer shown at the February, 2025, Sony State of Play. While light on specific story details, the trailer showed a variety of areas including ones reminiscent of Tokyo Highstreets and subway tracks as well as more fantastical locations that likely belong to the digital world. Several classic digimon also make their appearance, including Agumon, Garurumon, and Greymon, that it looks like players can train as partners.

The game's name and existence seemed to have leaked slightly early due to a recent listing on Gamestop's website. Other new games announced at the Sony State of Play include the new 2D action game Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. This also included a release date for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is scheduled for release sometime in 2025, for PS5 consoles. More information, which includes a release date, will appear in the future.

It seems a new Digimon game could be on the way, as GameStop is showing a product listing for an unannounced title called Digimon Story: Time Stranger. It is showing as a potential PS5 and Xbox Series X game. Pre-orders can be placed. [Thanks, Wario64!]

As this is a placeholder page, there isn’t a lot of information showing about what to expect from Digimon Story: Time Stranger. There’s no box art present. The release date is set as December 31, 2025, which is common for titles that don’t have a set one. Its gameplay is listed as a “third person adventure” lower down the page. No ESRB rating is available, and there also isn’t any description going over the possible plot. 

The Digimon Story series is a line of established RPGs, and the last new game in that line was Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory. It appeared on the Switch, PS4, Vita, and PC, and it was connected to Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. 

We do know that a new entry is in development. Bandai Namco didn’t share many details about it back at Digimon Con 2022.  Chief Producer Kazumasa Habu did say it would involve the Olympos XII characters.
