Takeshi Kusao is the new voice actor for Tooru Amuro in Detective Conan. His previous voice actor, Tooru Furuya, stepped down from the role in June 2024 after a major adultery scandal. [Thanks, Oricon!]

Amuro appears in the newest episode of Detective Conan, “Kaitou Kid and the Crown Trick,” which was how fans learned that Kusao replaced Furuya. His name also appeared in the credits. According to netizens, Kusao’s performance is similar to Furuya’s, and fits the role well.

Takeshi Kusao is a veteran voice actor who belongs to Aoni Production, which was the same agency Furuya was with. Kusao debuted in 1987, and some of his most famous roles include:

In May 2024, Bunshun Online reported that veteran voice actor Tooru Furuya committed adultery with a fan. Their affair resulted in an accidental impregnation, though he forced her to get an abortion. At one point, he hit her during a verbal argument. Furuya itted to all of these crimes and stepped down from his roles as Amuro and Sabo (One Piece). Miyu Irino is his replacement in One Piece. Atlus also removed him from an unknown role in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Detective Conan is available on streaming sites such as Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles the manga. As of January 18, 2025, Takeshi Kusao is the new voice actor for Tooru Amuro in Detective Conan.

Capcom revealed that Ace Attorney protagonist Phoenix Wright (or Naruhodo Ryuichi in the original Japanese version) appeared as one of the featured characters in the Gosho Aoyama's Detective Picture Book section of the Detective Conan manga volume 106. There's also a teaser image showing how he looks in the book.

Detective Conan author Gosho Aoyama drew Phoenix Wright in his own style for the Detective Picture Book. Furthermore, Additionally, Ace Attorney series director Shu Takumi wrote an introduction to the character as part of the manga volume’s section.

Gosho Aoyama's Detective Picture Book is a section that has appeared in every volume of the Detective Conan manga ( Case Closed in North America,) and it features a famous detective or mystery literary or movie character from various popular works, as well as some information about them. Some famous characters that have appeared in the section include Sherlock Holmes, Columbo, or Hannibal Lecter.

The Detective Conan manga, or Case Closed in North America, is licensed by Viz Media. The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is the last game in the series to release, and it is readily available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.

Aoni Production has removed Tooru Furuya from his roles as Sabo from One Piece and Amuro from Detective Conan. No information on replacement voice actors has come out yet. [Thanks, LiveDoor!]

In an apology and announcement on Aoni Production’s home page (as of June 22, 2024), Aoni Production explained that it discussed the recent scandal involving Furuya’s adultery with him. Because his behavior harmed the image of Sabo and Amuro, it asked him to step down from those two roles. He complied. At the end of the announcement, Aoni Production apologized to all fans of those two works, as well as the staff and cast.

At the end of the message, Furuya added his own apology. He stated that he caused a lot of trouble for people as a result of his actions. In order to make up for fans of the characters he voices and works they appear in, he decided to step down from the roles after a lot of thinking, saying that this is the only thing he can do to apologize to everyone.

For reference, the scandal refers to Furuya cheating on his wife with a fan of his work specifically as Amuro in Detective Conan. While they were going out, he used to speak with her while affecting the intonations of Amuro’s character. During their time together, he pressured her into having unprotected sex, impregnated her, and then made her abort the baby. He also hit her during an argument once. Aside from Sabo and Amuro, Tooru Furuya also lost his role as an unknown character in Atlus’s RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Bandai announced that a new Tamagotchi model based on the Detective Conan (or Case Closed outside of Japan) manga anime series will appear. More information and details about the new collaboration Tamagotchi will appear at a later date. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]

At the time of writing, there is no information on which Detective Conan characters will be featured in the new Tamagotchi toy, nor how will the mini-games work. Given how the Detective Conan manga and anime series features many murder mystery cases, it is unclear if the new Tamagotchi will feature this aspect of the series in any form.

Many Tamagotchi collaborations with popular anime series have appeared in the past. Some of them have involved raising a generic character into one of the main characters in their respective series, while others have featured classic Tamagotchi characters dressed as characters from its collaboration anime series.

In other related news, Uniqlo recently announced the release of a new line of Detective Conan collaboration t-shirts. More information about the Detective Conan or Case Closed Tamagotchi will appear at a later date.

The Detective Conan (or Case Closed) anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, and Viz Media handles the localization and release of the manga.

Uniqlo announced its next collection of anime shirts involves the series Detective Conan, which is known outside of Japan as Case Closed. There are five shirts to choose from, with all of them being unisex t-shirts for $24.90. 

All of the shirts are available in sizes XXS through XXXL. Gosho Aoyama drew all of the designs for them. Of the five designs, three feature small accents on the front of the shirt and the full design on the back. As the collection just launched, all of the designs are available at the time of writing. However, they will be sold both in retail stores and online, so if an item ends up being sold out it is possible it might still be at a local store.

We saw another array of anime shirts at Uniqlo recently. Naruto Shippudenshirts showed up there at the beginning of March 2024. There was also a new selection of shirts that involved various Sanrio mascots dressed up as Hello Kitty in honor of her 50th anniversary.

Toho Movie has ed a trailer for the 27th Detective Conan movie, Hyaku-man Dollar no Michishirube. It'll come out on April 12, 2024 in Japan.

The title for the movie can loosely translate to “Million-Dollar Guiding Star.” The trailer is half a minute long. It looks like a major event in the movie will focus on Hattori fighting Kaitou Kid, and he expresses surprise when he sees Kid’s face without his monocle. According to Weekly Shonen Sunday, the story will involve Kaitou Kid stealing a "jewel" in Hakodate. There might also be a confession scene between Heiji and Kazuha.

The entire cast from the show will return to reprise their roles. Chika Nagaoka, who worked on the 23rd and 24th movies, will direct the movie. Meanwhile, Takahiro Ookura, who worked on the 21st and 25th movies, will provide the script.

The previous Detective Conan movie, Kurogane no Submarine, made over 13.8 billion JPY (about $94 million) at the domestic office. It came out in April 2023. It is the highest-grossing Detective Conan film in the history of the franchise, beating out The Bride of Halloween, and was the first Detective Conan film to gross over 10 billion JPY.

The 27th Detective Conan movie, Hyaku-man Dollar no Michishirube, will air in Japanese theaters on April 12, 2024.

Weekly Shonen Sunday published the results of its Heroine Grand Prix poll. In total, 275,027 people cast in their votes. This poll included characters from series that have ended, such as Magi, Hayate the Combat Butler, and Flame of Recca. Three out of the Top 10 characters originate from Detective Conan. Two Hayate the Combat Butler characters were in the Top 30, with Nagi in 23rd place and Hinagiku in 19th. Sakura Mamiya, who is the female lead of RIN-NE was in 16th. Rumiko Takahashi, who wrote Inuyasha and Urusei Yatsura, was also the mangaka for RIN-NE. Morgiana from Magi is in 25th place and Yanagi Sakoshita of Flame of Recca is 26th.

The prominence of the Detective Conan characters likely has to do with the enduring popularity of the series. The ubiquitous mass appeal of the series likely means it has a broader range of people voting for it. It is a little unclear how Ayumi beat so many other heroines in the poll. Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine came out in Japan on April 14, 2023 and it is the 26th movie in the series. It made over ten billion JPY (around $71 million) in the domestic box office.

Uniqlo announced its next line of anime shirts involves the series Detective Conan, known outside Japan as Case Closed in some regions. There are seven different unisex styles available. There’s also a special site designed to highlight each design. That page also shows characters from the series "modeling" the clothing.

Each of the seven shirts costs $24.90. They are available in sizes XXS through XXXL. Only one features a design on the front and back, and that features Shinichi Kudo’s knight hat on the front and Ran Mori with him above the words “Romantic Shuffle” on the back. The others feature characters like Conan Edogawa, Ai Haibara, Bourbon, and Shuichi Akai, as well as imagery from the series.

Uniqlo frequently releases shirts inspired by anime series or video games. For example, there will be an array of CLAMP anime series shirts appearing in July 2023 at the retailer. We also saw a Super Mario Bros Movie collection when the film launched. Attack on Titan and Pokemon Masters EX shirts appeared this year too.

The Detective Conan/Case Closed Uniqlo shirts are now available in-store and online. Viz Media handles the localization of the series outside Japan, and Crunchyroll streams the anime.

Netflix will host a new anime series based on the famed Detective Conan franchise. Called Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa, the series adapts a comedy spin-off manga that appeared in 2017. The new Netflix Detective Conan show was announced for a February 1, 2023 premiere via the official Netflix Anime social media s. The spin-off was first revealed in November 2021, and it is being produced by TMS entertainment.

The Netflix Detective Conan spin-off will star "Hanzawa", a featureless villain dressed in full-body black tights and with a mind for murder. Hanzawa originated as a visual gag from the Detective Conan series. Whenever the various crimes solved in the different cases were depicted in flashback, the villain, their identity unrevealed, would be represented by an all-black figure, regardless of their actual identity. This became something of a running joke for the series, and over time this "character" was given a name "Hanzawa" (a pun on "hanzaisha" or "perpetrator"). In 2017 a comedic manga launched, illustrated and written by Mayuko Kanba, working off the premise that Hanzawa is an actual person, "Makoto Hanzawa". In the anime, Hanzawa will be voiced by Shota Aoi. Aoi also voiced characters like Rosado in Fire Emblem Engage, Louis Kisaragi in King of Prism, and Ai Mikaze in Uta no Prince-sama.

The visual language of a silhouetted villain in flashback was adopted by other mystery series, including games like Danganronpa.

Netflix also ed a poster for the show, featuring Hanzawa, Conan himself, and other characters from the main show.

NetEase showed off a new promotional video for the Identity V x Detective Conan (Case Closed) crossover that will go live soon. This collaboration was originally exclusive to the China server. However, NetEase announced back in July 2021 that the global servers (NA/EU and Asia) would get this event as well. As a nod to the series, a familiar song appears.

The trailer shows off the characters who will appear in the first batch of the crossover. It also features the classic theme song for Detective Conan, which has remained relatively unchanged since 1996. The Detective Conan characters you can get in the first round are:

• Conan Edogawa: Orpheus
• Shinichi Kudo: Orpheus
• Ran Mouri: Coordinator
• Kogoro Mouri: Lawyer
• Ai Haibara: Perfumer
• Heiji Hattori: Forward

When the global server gets the second round, we will see characters such as Kaito Kid and Shuichi Akai. There is still no concrete date as of yet for the Detective Conan crossover in Identity V.

However, after maintenance on October 14, 2021, NetEase will implement S18 Essence 2, which includes the Wax Artist. Those who pull his S-Tier skin from the gacha can get the character for free. Other characters who will receive skins in S18 Essence 2 are Barmaid and Coordinator.

Identity V is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC globally. Detective Conan, though not all of the episodes, are on streaming services such as Crunchyroll and Netflix. The IDV x Detective Conan crossover will go live sometime in Fall 2021. If Essence 2 will feature the Wax Artist, then it most likely will arrive for Essence 3. Currently, players can still pull from both The Promised Neverland crossover Essences.

The Sherlock Holmes of the Heisei era will make his way to Oletus Manor, as NetEase announced an Detective Conan collaboration with Identity V. Detective Conan, or Case Closed, was exclusive to the Chinese server and both parts ran from July to September 2020. Though the exact date is still unknown, the Detective Conan essences will appear in Identity V in Season 17.

The second round of essences will have Kaito Kid, Akai, Amuro, and Vermouth. Of these characters, only Orpheus and Seer are getting an S-Tier skin; everyone else is receiving an A-Tier.

Identity V also recently Tweeted information on new content that will appear in the season. There will be a new hunter (Wax Artist), new survivors (Patient and “Psychologist”), and a new map (Darkwoods).

Detective Conan is a long-running manga and anime series written by Gosho Aoyama. It has been running in Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 1994, and the anime has been airing since January 1996. Detective Conan, though not the entire series, is available on streaming services such as Crunchyroll.

Identity V is readily available worldwide on mobile devices and Windows PC. The game is celebrating its third anniversary. There is less than a week left in Season 16, and the Detective Conan essences will appear on the global server at an unknown date in Season 17.

Toho has revealed that the 24th Detective Conan (Case Closed) movie, Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, will be released in 22 more countries and regions worldwide simultaneously with Japan. [Thanks, Eiga Natalie!]

Japan would usually get a head start on the releases of anime movies, while other countries would have to wait for months. That would have been the case with The Scarlet Bullet had it been released on its original launch date of April 17, 2020. The delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic led to the simultaneous release of the latest Detective Conan movie in many other countries worldwide, for the first time in the series history.

Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet will be available simultaneously in 23 countries and regions across Asia and Europe. Other than Japan, the movie will also air in Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, , Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, , United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Toho has also published a new Global Opening Movie to celebrate the worldwide launch of The Scarlet Bullet. You can listen to the Japanese, English, and Korean voices of Shinichi Kudo, as well as the German and Chinese voices of Conan Edogawa in the same trailer.

Universal Studios Japan has seen big collaboration attractions with plenty of video game and anime franchises and it is about to get bigger with the addition of Final Fantasy and Sailor Moon.

We’ve seen some pretty big franchises featured in collaboration attractions as part of Universal Studios Japan’s “Universal Cool Japan” project that aims to highlight cool Japanese brands that appeal to a worldwide audience.

In the past we’ve seen collaborations with Monster Hunter, Attack on Titan, Resident Evil, Detective Conan, and Neon Genesis Evangelion as limited-time events.

The Final Fantasy attraction will make its debut at Universal Studios Japan starting January 19, along with the return of the Detective Conan and Monster Hunter events that will be seeing a further evolution for next year as they were well-received from the fans. Sailor Moon will the mix for Universal Cool Japan later in Spring 2018.

In addition to all those big names, Universal Studios Japan has another big video game-related project on the way with “Super Nintendo World,” a new Nintendo-themed attraction area that is scheduled to become a permanent fixture with a launch expected sometime before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Namco Bandai created a case for Detective Conan to solve on the Nintendo DS. In Detective Conan: Rondo of the Blue Jewel, players will investigate areas using the Nintendo DS' stylus. Conan collects keywords when he pokes suspicious objects, which players put together to solve a mystery involving Japan and the Ander Kingdom.

Detective Conan: Rondo of the Blue Jewel comes out on April 21 in Japan.
