MegaHouse announced that 2B from NieR: Automata will become a Desktop Army figure. She’ll launch in the second half of October 2025 in Japan. She’ll cost 9,900円 (~$68). At time of writing, it seems the only store with worldwide shipping carrying it is AmiAmi, which is selling it for about $58.46.

The trademark of the Desktop Army line is that all of the characters are about 80mm (three inches) tall, and the figures are articulated, come with accessories, and are compatible with all past armor and accessories with other characters. This figure includes both 2B and Pod 042. You also get two swords with her, which are Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty. These can be held in her hand or attached to her back. 

Here's a closer look at the character, some possible poses, and the accessories she'll come with from MegaHouse.

Desktop Army is an established MegaHouse line of original figures that included plenty of crossovers prior to the 2B NieR: Automata announcement. For example, Persona 3’s Aigis ed the collection in 2021. One set brought Evangelion’s Shinji and Kaworu into the fold. There were also ones based on Fate/Stay Night characters, Princess Connect heroines, and Alice Gear units.

This isn’t the only recent NieR: Automata merchandise to appear. Square Enix shared a Black Box rubber tray with glow-in-the-dark elements as part of a new collection headed to Japan. 

MegaHouse’s NieR: Automata 2B Desktop Army figure will debut in Japan in late October 2025. The gamecan be found on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The NieR: Automata anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

When it comes to figures and models, so many can take up quite a bit of space. Even if you aren’t going with 1/7th scale one, get enough Nendoroids and smaller items and they’ll be a bit cluttered. With MegaHouse’s Desktop Army series, that isn’t an issue. These are three inch tall figures with light assembly requirements. And when it comes to the Desktop Army Persona 3 Aigis figures, they seem especially small and intricate.

Now, heading into a Desktop Army purchase you need to be aware of three things. One is that these are blind box items. Each “collection” has three boxes. So if you buy a full set, you’re guaranteed one of each. Second is that there is some mild assembly. In the case of the Desktop Army Aigis, you’re assembling her accessories. Finally, the official art on the box might show a character with a setup that requires you to have a full set of figures. In this case, each figure only comes with one sort of firearm.

So, in the case of my impulse Desktop Army purchase, I got the Persona 4 Arena version of Aigis. She a launcher that attaches to her shoulder and an open smile, compared to the Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES variants in this assortment. She’s about three inches tall, as promised. Due to the shape of her feet, she can’t stand on her own. There are optional parts to remedy that, but they didn’t help my figure. However, her clear stand, once assembled, allows for quite a few positions.

This miniature Aigis arrives with a pretty accurate and elaborate paint job. Mine’s paint job was perfect, with no errors or imperfections. Her ts also bend at her knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and neck. However, be advised that sitting isn’t exactly her thing. You can manage that pose, but she needs to sit normally on her own.

As for the building part, it is incredibly easy to assemble Aigis’ gun in these sets. The Persona 4 Arena launcher involved only six steps and, after the initial ts, I didn’t need to look at the directions to finish it off. Everything snaps together, and no glue, nippers, or paint are required. It affixes snuggly to her back, but requires no effort to remove if you prefer to pose her unarmed.

I’d honestly consider the Desktop Army Persona 3 Aigis series of figures a good item fit for anyone. If you like Persona, she’s a fun piece of merchandise at a reasonable price. If you want to display a figure at your desk or somewhere, but don’t want it occupying too much space, Desktop Army is perfect for a small novelty. Or maybe if you’d like to try taking pictures on location, but wonder about carrying a large figure around, Aigis is tiny enough to fit in a pocket or purse.

The Desktop Army Persona 3 Aigis figures are now available. They cost ¥2,178, and should be around $20 each if you find one online or in a store like Kinokuniya.

The next Megahouse Desktop Army figure collaboration is about to hit another major milestone. On Twitter, the official shared that Desktop Army Persona 3 Aigis figures’ pre-orders will open on September 3, 2020. Each one one the three will be blind boxed, cost ¥1,980 ($19), and ship out in February 2021.

As is common with the Desktop Army line, this collaboration will involve three different versions of Aigis. Each one will be blind boxed, so you won’t know which one you’ll get. (However, buying a full “box” of three will get you one of each.) The designs are inspired by the Persona 3, Persona 3 FES, and Persona 4 Arena versions of the heroine. Each one will look slightly different, with different facial expressions and armor options, and come with its own artillery. If you collect all three, you can combine all the weapons together for a special “look.

Another Aigis figure is due out in 2021 too. That’s a Good Smile Company one based on her Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight appearance, though. It’s much larger as well, as that is 1/7th scale and these Desktop Army figures are each 80mm tall.

Pre-orders for the Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka and Eva Unit-02 Limited Run Desktop Army figures are now live, giving fans a chance to get their hands on yet another set of Desktop Army figurines to add to their collection. This set comes with Eva pilot Asuka Langely and Evangelion Unit-02. Unlike other figurines featuring Asuka and her Eva, this version is based off of the designs featured in the theatrical release of Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0. The Asuka and Eva Unit-02 figures will cost ¥8,228 or roughly $77. Since this version of Unit-02 is based off of the theatrical release, Unit-02 will have a new weapon--a double-bladed naginata. Asuka will also be able to hold this weapon as well. In addition to this, the accessories from the Desktop Army set featuring Asuka, Rei, and Mari can be used with the Neon Genesis Evangelion Unit-02 and Asuka Limited Run Desktop Army set.

However, despite the release of this new trailer, no new information has been shared as to when the movie will finally hit theaters.
