Kadokawa released various videos “celebrating” the Sword Art Online video game being “beaten” and ending. In the original light novel, manga, and anime, the Sword Art Online VR MMORPG game itself was beaten by Kirito on November 7, 2024 at 2:55pm JST.

To celebrate the occasion and to promote the original light novel series, the Dengeki Bunko official YouTube channel posted a fictionalized news report sharing the news of the Sword Art Online game being beaten, and approximately 6,000 people waking up from their induced comas.

Shakugan no Shana SIV Light Novel

After about eleven years of radio silence, Shakugan no Shana will return. Kadokawa announced via its Dengeki Bunko Twitter that a new volume for the series, with the working title of Shakugan no Shana SIV, will come out some time in 2023. [Thanks ANN!]

Miki Kazuma, an editor for Dengeki Bunko, teased the news in the early hours of May 23, 2023 by stating that there will be news that’ll move veteran Dengeki Bunko fans to tears. The news in  question, of course, is the announcement of Shakugan no Shana SIV. This will be the fourth short story collection following SIII. For reference, SIII came out in Japan on November 10, 2012. There’s not much concrete information beyond this, though.

Shakugan no Shana, written by Yashichiro Takahashi and illustrated by Noizi Ito, ran from 2002 to 2012. There are also manga and anime adaptations of it, along with a film. It follows the story of ordinary boy (though not so ordinary later) Yuji Sakai and Flame Haze Shana as they fight against other Flame Hazes and Denizens to protect Earth. The series was a highly popular and influential piece of media. Shana in particular was one of the blueprints for the small flat-chested tsundere love interest during the early to mid-2000s.

Shakugan no Shana SIV will come out some time in 2023.
