Capcom announced it is bringing back Dead Rising again, this time with Frank West returning in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. It is expected to release in 2024, though platforms aren’t confirmed yet.

For those unfamiliar with the beat’em up game, Dead Rising involves journalist Frank West heading to a Colorado mall to find out why the military locked everything down. He quickly finds out it’s because of a zombie outbreak. He needs to survive while finding out what’s going on and potentially saving survivors. Depending on your actions, there are multiple endings to earn.

Here’s the first trailer Capcom shared. It sets the stage by showing Frank in the helicopter approaching the mall, then being dropped in to carry out his investigation over the course of three days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyZ7gagpgsU&ab_channel=OfficialCapcomEurope

The original Dead Rising appeared multiple times following its August 2006 debut on the Xbox 360. A Wii version appeared three years later. Then in 2016, remasters showed up again for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is in development and will launch in 2024. There are no product pages or websites live for it just yet, however the official social media for the series is now active and open again.

dead rising 5 development

Independent games journalist Liam Robertson, under the Did You Know? Gaming brand and his own series Game History Secrets, just dropped a huge report on the events leading to Capcom Vancouver's closure. The video, which you can watch below, goes into great detail on what happened between the successful launch of Dead Rising 2, all the way up to Capcom's restructuring and focus on Japanese game development. While we have a finished Dead Rising 4 release to see what happened there, another big nugget of information is on what went down with Dead Rising 5 development. A history of communication issues and executive function were allegedly the biggest issues, leading to Capcom needing to ultimately shutter the studio.[Thanks, Game History Secrets!]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6glExmQadfY

According to Robertson's report, Capcom Vancouver had several issues since Dead Rising 2, which led to a lot of problems through Dead Rising 3. This led to Dead Rising 5 starting development alongside 4, with a totally new team of developers brought in for fresh ideas. The project even moved from Capcom's Forge engine to Unreal Engine 4, which led to significant structural changes compared to the previous games. What the team started with was a smaller game, set between Dead Rising 2 and 3, which would have allowed two players to enjoy co-op with the returning Chuck and Katie Greene.

Leadership ended up changing drastically over a few years, with the scope changing to something more open world and... Ubisoft-like, then leaping back in the opposite direction towards Dark Souls. As that version of Dead Rising 5 development progressed, Capcom back in Japan wasn't okay with such a drastic shift and that was that. While figuring out what to do next, the decision was made to "cut their losses" and the Vancouver office was shut down, following a huge round of layoffs.

In 2006, the original Dead Rising was released on the Xbox 360 worldwide. Almost exactly 10 years after its original September releases in Japan, Europe, and Australia, remastered versions of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. Capcom has put together a list detailing exactly when and how people can get the games alone, separately, digitally, and physically.

All three Dead Rising games will be available digitally on September 13, 2016. They will be $19.99/€19.99/£15.99 each. Dead Rising will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, while Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising2: Off the Record will be on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A digital, $59.49 triple pack with all three games will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a $49.99 pre-order offer currently in effect.

dr2 Dead Rising was an Xbox 360 exclusive unless you count the Wii-make, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Dead Rising 2 will invade three platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs .

Set years after the original outbreak, Dead Rising 2 is set in Las Vegas Fortune City where there are thousands more zombies to face. Scratch that tens of thousands of zombies to face. Weapons so far include a roulette wheel, baseball bat, guitar, bicycle, and giant cell phone. While Capcom and Producer Keiji Inafune are overseeing the project Blue Castle Games in Vancouver, Canada is acting as the developer. Before Dead Rising 2 they worked on The Bigs, an arcade style baseball game published by 2K Sports.

dear Capcom announced a release date for Dead Rising: Zombie no Ikenie, better known as Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop here, will come out on February 19 in Japan. This version of Dead Rising breaks down the Xbox 360 game into a series of missions and utilizes the control scheme from Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.

You can point at the screen with the remote to aim and shoot at zombies. However, if you're expecting the same experience you're going to be sorely disappointed. As it's been mentioned many times before Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop doesn't pile the screen with zombies like the Xbox 360 game so you get a totally different kind of game. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is more like a light gun game than Dead Rising. Actually, Capcom should have gone with a straight light gun spin off or Dead Rising Snap. Both could have worked and prevented inevitable comparisons to the original game.

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop costs 7,340 yen ($75) in Japan, but I don't expect Capcom USA to sell the game for that much. Retailers in the USA are currently pricing Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop at $39.99.

You didn’t think Capcom would skip releasing the Wii version of Dead Rising in North America did you? Now we have the official English name, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, since Capcom USA is officially involved with the game’s release. The foundation of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is the Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition engine which allows players to aim their gun with motion control. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop also includes an over the shoulder camera, weapon swinging, and more save points. However, the zombie epidemic isn’t a complete package since it’s missing the photo mode.

We’re getting Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop this winter. Dead Rising: Zombie Sacrifice doesn’t have a release date in Japan yet.

dead-rising-xbox-360-clown.jpg With all the buzz about E3, it's understandable that the weekly Famitsu news would get lost in the shuffle. But here's one big story coming from Famitsu that shouldn't be missed: Dead Rising is coming to Wii. That's right. The (up to now) XBOX360 exclusive "survive a mall filled with zombies" game. Revealed in this week's Famitsu, Dead Rising for Wii isn't a rail shooter or any other kind of spinoff. It's a port of the 360 version. According to an interview with the game's producers (also in this week's Famitsu), the sales of Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition led them to port Dead Rising to the Wii.

Other interesting tidbits from the interview include the addition of motion controlled attacks, new weapons, and a new boss on top of all that. This is definitely exciting news for Wii owners who never got to play Dead Rising. No release date was stated, however, being a Wii owner who has never played Dead Rising but has always wanted to, I'm more than willing to wait as long as I have to for the chance to survive a zombie infested shopping mall on Wii.

Capcom announced that they have sold over one million copies of Dead Rising world wide since the game’s initial release on August 8, 2006 in North America. The zombie hunting game reached three regions and Japan was the last one to receive it on September 28, 2006. In some ways Dead Rising was a surprise hit. Dead Rising outsold Okami with its simple concept of running around a mall killing zombies with whatever is in sight. Since the series already has a million copies sold you can bet Capcom is working on a sequel to Dead Rising.
