A long time has ed since a new mainline Danganronpa game has been released. Sadly, it doesn’t look like one is happening anytime soon, either. With , similar titles from creator Kazutaka Kodaka like The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy on the horizon, it appears this series is indefinitely on hold. This is likely due to a number of factors, such as the infamous Danganronpa V3 ending, which shouldn’t stop new Danganronpa games.

I will try my best to avoid spoilers, but it is pretty much inevitable. As such, if you have yet to finish Danganronpa V3, this is your chance to walk away and come back later. Still here? Well, the ending is controversial for a reason. It upends this entire series in more ways than one, but namely because of the many lies.

As we find out, pretty much everything we knew about the series was a blatant lie or at least somewhat fake. The characters existed and participated in these games, but with fake personas. It is an intriguing commentary on the fans and the series, and one I’ve grown to appreciate in the years since. But the ending seemed to put a cap on the series.

After all, what is the point now that we know the truth? But I beg to differ. I feel like this series ended just as it was getting started. V3, and even the second game before it, did a lot to deconstruct and surprise players. Characters you might expect to be evil died while the more innocent “main characters” turned out to be killers. Despite these wonderful twists, such as the Kaede and Chiaki ones, there was still so much room for new turns.

For instance, what if a new game didn’t go the whole multiple survivors route? It would be a shock to have only the protagonist survive or, dare I say it, finish the final case by trying to get away with murder. This would be a fascinating twist on the courtroom sessions.

Alternatively, what about a game with multiple endings? Here, you could make choices that determine what conclusion you get. Maybe befriending a possible killer in one route results in multiple survivors, while alienating that Nagito or Ouma-like person results in them pinning a murder on you and walking away as the winner. Or they could even finish you off as their victim.

These are just a few options for a new Danganronpa. I’m not even bringing up the amazing character options. Think of all the Ultimates we haven’t seen yet. There is almost limitless potential for where the series goes next. In fact, I think it is better to look at the V3 ending this way.

For one, Spike Chunsoft and Kodaka (or a new team) could opt for a fresh reboot. Scratch the entire ending and start over with a new class and no expectations. Or, heck, set it in a new universe and move on to Ultimate university students. Another option would be to fill in the gaps between games.

Spoiler warning once more, but we now know the most recent game is actually the 53rd game in the universe. That means there are about 50 different games we haven’t played yet. That is an unbelievable amount of content to go back and look at. Could we see Rantaro’s game, for example? Or just a fresh case without any strings attached. This would even be the chance for them to go ahead and call a game Danganronpa 4 and show the fourth game.

Finally, there is the big one. What if we just got a direct sequel to Danganronpa V3? I know that sounds ridiculous with the ending, but there is nothing to hide now. The games can continue onward as they were. This time, though, we know the truth about the matter.

This route gives a lot of possibilities for how Spike can play with the characters and story. We can have more deranged students, such as someone who keeps switching between their old personality and their new, fake one. We could get to know the people behind the actual broadcasted game, not the weird Junko despair mess.

If anything, this gives the team a chance to avoid the pitfalls of the original trilogy. Instead of connecting all three games like before, just give us standalone experiences that are one and done death games. This leaves the room open for anything to happen. Whatever the case is, I sincerely Danganronpa V3 isn’t the ending for this series and we do get new Danganronpa games at some point.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code was a solid distraction in 2023, but it fell just a tad short of what I want to see. And then there is The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. After how much I hated the unnecessary battles in a story-driven game like 13 Sentinels, I expect this to be a similar situation. These fun diversions are exciting to try out, but I hope Kodaka gives us a new Danganronpa game sooner rather than later.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is available for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and PC.

Danganronpa ID Cards

A new collectable item featuring the characters from the Danganronpa series is now available to pre-order on AmiAmi, which ships worldwide, until November 19, 2023. The new Danganronpa student ID cards will cost 550 yen (~$3.67) each and will be released in Japan in February 2024.

All characters from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony appear on these student ID replicas. That means there are 48 student ID cards to collect in total. The cards mimic the descriptions that are written on the e-Handbook that is given to the students when they enroll in Monokuma’s institution. They are all in Japanese. For those that would like to carry one with them or use it for cosplay, the cards are made of PVC materials in an attempt to make them more durable.

By pre-ordering a single Danganronpa student ID card, you will receive one at random when they are released. If someone would like to secure all of the cards, a full set for each of the three games is also available for purchase from AmiAmi. One set costs 8,800 yen (~$58.85).

The new Danganronpa student ID cards are available for pre-order until November 19, 2023 ahead of the February 2024 debut. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony are all available worldwide on the PS4, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.

Pink Junko Enoshima Curry

Due to the popularity of the Master Detective Archives: Rain Code booth at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Spike Chunsoft decided that a pop-up shop selling merchandise originally only available at the booth will appear at the AmiAmi Akihabara Radio Kaikan store starting on September 29, 2023 in Japan. At the shop, some Danganronpa curry varieties will also be available for purchase. Pink Junko Enoshima curry, white Nagito Komaeda curry, and black Kokichi Oma curry will be available only at the in-person store for 1,200 yen ($8.06) per box. [Thanks, Denfaminico Gamer!]

With each purchase of a box of Danganronpa curry, people get a bonus sticker. Each character has a different set of four possible stickers you can get. The pink Junko Enoshima curry has a color reminiscent of the unorthodox blood from the Danganronpa series, as well as Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. Both of these series were written by Kazutaka Kodaka.

As a reminder, Junko Enoshima is a world-class model from the first Danganronpa game. Nagito Komaeda is a "lucky" character from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Kokichi Oma is the Ultimate Supreme Leader from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.

A series of multi-color Danganronpa curries will be available for purchase at the Master Detective Archives: Rain Code pop-up store at the Amiami Akihabara Radio Kaikan store. The store will be open from September 29, 2023 through October 9, 2023. Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is available on the Nintendo Switch. The first two Danganronpa games are available on the PS4 and Steam as a bundle called Danganronpa 1.2 Reload, and both games are also available separately on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PSP, PSVita, Android and iOS devices, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PSVita, Xbox One, Steam, and Android and iOS devices.

Identity V Danganronpa V3

In an update to its announcement on the Identity V and Danganronpa V3 collaboration, NetEase has revealed which Survivors will get A skins when the event starts on August 3, 2023. As a reminder, the skins from previous Danganronpa collaboration events will return as well. NetEase has also revealed a large number of skins for the game, including one for a new character.

The Survivors who will get new Danganronpa V3 skins in identity V are:

  • Acrobat: Kokichi Oma
  • Journalist: Kaede Akamatsu
  • Novelist: Shuichi Saihara
  • “Prisoner”: Rantaro Amami
  • Toy Merchant: Miu Iruma

Of these skins, only Journalist’s is an S-tier. The others are A-tier. Journalist is a relatively new character in the game. But it's possible that NetEase chose her to represent Kaede due to her having an in-lore connection with Novelist. Novelist is the younger version of the Detective in Identity V, which connects him to Shuichi for reasons beyond aesthetics. NetEase has not yet ed showcases for the skins so it’s unclear if they have any special effects, such as how the Mikan skin for Doctor changed her syringe.

Other collaborations include one with the Hangzhou West Lake and Sanrio. NetEase also announced S skins for Aeroplanist (an unreleased Survivor), Grave Keeper, and Enchantress. There will also be a 5th Anniversary Essence featuring the Patient, “Psychologist,” and Photographer characters. Doctor, Painter, and Bloody Queen will also get new skins from existing costume series.

Identity V is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PCs. The Danganronpa V3 collaboration skins in Identity V will be available from August 3, 2023.

Danganronpa V3 Identity V

NetEase announced an collaboration between its asymmetrical horror game Identity V and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. This news first appeared during the Call of the Abyss VI stream, which is the world finals for the game. Other future updates will bring a new map, mode, and characters.

There is no information on what characters will appear in the Danganronpa V3 crossover event in Identity V so far. NetEase will reveal them closer to the release window. During the event’s run, we will see the previous Danganronpa and Super Danganronpa 2 skins return. This will likely be the final chance for players to obtain these limited skins. Some outfits that NetEase released for the previous Danganronpa collaboration events include Nagito Komaeda for Mercenary and Kyoko Kirigiri for Coordinator.

https://twitter.com/GameIdentityV/status/1653672343540215808

Other than new outfits, NetEase also announced a new Hide and Seek game mode. Judging by the key visual, this might be another 2v8 type of mode, which means there’ll be a total of two Hunters and eight Survivors per match. There will also be a new Race Course map, which might tie into the lore for the Cheerleader, who’ll be a new character. She and Aeroplanist will be new Survivors, and the Opera Singer will be a new Hunter. More details on their kits will appear at a later date.

Identity V is available worldwide on mobile devices and Windows PC. More information on the Danganronpa V3 collaboration event, as well as new characters, will appear on the Identity V social media s in the near future.

Danganronpa V3 Manages to Make Due on Mobile Devices

The mobile version of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is here after quite a wait, with Android and iOS ports available. Given the nature of the game, people might wonder how well it works. After all, this is a huge Danganronpa installment. It does a lot! There’s a lot of data! It’s visually intense. But even considering all that, it functions better than I expected.

The first thing I noticed is the cost. I’m a big fan of the Danganronpa V3 iOS price, as the mobile version is the cheapest one. On both the PS4 and PC, a digital copy will normally cost you $39.99. The Switch version goes for $29.99. Grabbing it from the App Store or Google Play only costs someone $15.99. Considering the size and scope of the game, it’s frankly a ridiculous deal. To compare, it only hit that 60% off price point during the 2022 Golden Week PlayStation Store and Steam sale.

Rantaro Amami

Once I actually started playing it, I was surprised at how good this port is. Danganronpa V3 is the most demanding of the three mainline games, and the mobile version was running rather well on my 2018 iPad Pro. Visually, it looked great. The trials had some issues, but I think the movement problems I experienced were the kind of bug that could be patched out rather than a genuine issue. They might even be attributed to the age of my device. It looks very good, considering the compromises needed to likely get it running on a phone or tablet.

There is an issue I noticed once I finished the prologue. Danganronpa V3 will begin ing additional data once it is done. However, it seems like there might be a bug here too. It will sometimes look as though the data isn’t ing at a steady pace, even though it is. Given the extra data was an over 2GB on iOS devices, this can take a while. I recommend having your phone or tablet plugged in and on WiFi. Maybe check the screen every once in a while, to make sure the bar is gradually progressing. When I gave it enough time, it worked out. It just meant jumping from 0% to 48% along the way.

Danganronpa V3 Manages to Make Due on Mobile Devices

I also appreciated how well the touchscreen controls worked, for the most part. When investigating, they work great. It is responsive and accurate. I had no problem with the game picking out what I was selecting. Granted, I was using an iPad Pro, so I did have plenty of surface space. The menu and UI are also very well organized. I did notice that during trials things sometimes weren’t as snappy as they are during the more leisurely looks around the school. But again, it is quite functional. I wasn’t too concerned as well, as it could be something that perhaps could be adjusted with patches down the road or be due to the age of my tablet.

The downside is, I can not get used to the virtual control pad for moving around Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. How it works is this. On the left side of the screen is the virtual joypad used to move. On the right is the one that controls the camera. During the introductory segment, in which Exisals are chasing Kaede, it’s pretty difficult to get your bearings! (Yes, the pun is intended.) It took me a few tries to find the “sweet spot” to make her run. And it wasn’t until after I could freely explore the school that I finally figured out how to make it work for me. Still, it isn’t comfortable! It doesn’t work well, which is sad considering how well the rest of the port functions.

Danganronpa V3 Manages to Make Due on Mobile Devices

In fact, I was also delighted to see that the Danganronpa V3 iOS version worked on another platform. While it isn’t verified for macOS, I found it worked just fine on my MacBook Air. Granted, I was just messing around when I tried it. Especially since there’s no controller and I didn’t have a touchscreen to make those exploration segments easier. But it is a welcome surprise to see that yes, someone could play it on a Mac if they are patient enough.

I’d say Danganronpa V3 has the potential to be really great on mobile devices. The virtual analog sticks take some getting used to. Class trials too. But the game generally looks great and runs rather well, all things considered. It being on more platforms is a perk too. It’s a fantastic thriller and adventure, and this just means more people can enjoy it.

Rantaro Amami Once I actually started playing it, I was surprised at how good this port is. Danganronpa V3 Manages to Make Due on Mobile Devices I also appreciated how well the touchscreen controls worked, for the most part. New Danganronpa V3 Kaede Akamatsu Figure Costs Over $243

Back in February 2021, a new Good Smile Company Phat! Danganronpa V3 figure of Kaede Akamatsu was announced. However, it didn’t get a release window or concept art. Now, pre-orders for the figure appeared. It will cost ¥26,800/$243.99. People in Japan will get it in October 2023. It won’t show up in North America until December 2023.

As a nod to Kaede’s roots as the Ultimate Pianist, there is a music theme to the whole figure. She’s standing on a piano keyboard alongside Monokuma. Sheet music is scattered around her. Monokuma is dressed as a conductor and is wielding a baton. Kaede is also wearing her school uniform. As this is a 1/7th scale figure, it will be almost nine and a half inches tall.

Here’s a closer look at the Danganronpa V3 Kaede and Monokuma figure.

This won’t be the only figure of the character showing up next year. There will also be a bunny girl version of her. That will be showing up sooner, however. It is set to come to Japan in January 2023 and North America in March 2023. She’s the more expensive of the two, though, as she’ll cost someone ¥30,800/$307.99.

The Danganronpa V3 Kaede Akamatsu figure will appear in October 2023 in Japan and in December 2023 in North America. Pre-orders are open until June 8, 2022.

Spike Chunsoft announced mobile ports of the mainline Danganronpa games for the series’s 10th anniversary. The first two games have been available on iOS and Android since 2020. Danganronpa V3 for mobile devices originally had a release window of May 2021. However, Spike Chunsoft delayed it until an unspecified date. The reason for the delay was the discovery of a major flaw in the game.
