In early October 2024, the Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Twitter posted a video introducing a young version of Angeal, but did you know an even younger version of Angeal first appeared in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion? He doesn’t show up as a character, per se, but rather as an easter egg you can see in a photo.

https://twitter.com/ffviir_cloud/status/1853633342329291155

The official Twitter for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series posted several screenshots from Reunion. In them, Zack is looking at several photos of Angeal from his youth. One picture shows him as a baby, and another shows him soon after he became a SOLDIER. Zack points out yet another photo, depicting Angeal with Genesis. All of these photos are difficult to see, as they’re more akin to props in the game. But if you zoom in on the pictures, you can make him out.

The young version of Angeal debuted in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis in mid-October 2024, as part of the The First Soldier storyline. In the mainline games, Angeal Hewley is a major ing character and is a SOLDIER 1st Class in charge of mentoring Zack. He was the one who ed down the Buster Sword to Zack, who in turn ed it down to Cloud. Since Angeal is part of Zack’s story, he was only in Crisis Core and not the original Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available on Windows PC and mobile devices. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

Square Enix announced the release of a silver necklace inspired by the shape of potion bottles in Crisis Core FFVII Reunion. The necklace costs 27,500 yen (or about $183) and is expected to be released in Japan on February 24, 2024.

Pre-orders for the new necklace are now open from the Square Enix Japanese online store. The new potion necklace comes with a chain. Both the necklace and chain are made of 925 sterling silver. Meanwhile, the transparent parts of the potion are made with resin.

More Crisis Core FFVII Trivia About SOLDIER Recruitment Process

Although Square Enix recently released Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion trivia about the SOLDIER recruitment process, the developer has revealed new details about the series' lore. In a follow-up post on social media, the studio shared an interesting aspect of how the Shinra Electric Power Company uses SOLDIERs in their society.

As explained in their previous trivia, the physical fitness exam is the most important factor when deciding who can become a SOLDIER. Anyone can be recruited to the program if they have the physical and mental strength to withstand exposure to Mako. However, even though the written test isn't as important as the physical fitness portion, Shinra still holds the exam to leave room for applicants to have hopes and dreams.

According to Square Enix, SOLDIERs are the people's idols in the world of Final Fantasy VII, so if they believe in the idea that "if you work hard, you can become one of them someday," then they will be inspired to try and become a SOLDIER. Another way people can be recruited into SOLDIER is through Turks scouting people out. This method is less about people's aspirations, though, as citizens of Midgar are often forced to be scouted by the Turks.

According to the developer, there are two main routes to recruit SOLDIERs for the Shinra Electric Power Company.

Crisis Core FFVII wings

Square Enix shared a social media post explaining the symbolism behind the wings that some characters like Sephiroth in Crisis Core FFVII and FFVII Remake have. To be more specific, the post explains the meaning behind Sephiroth, Genesis, and Angeal’s wings, which includes the positioning on the side of the character’s back and the different colors.

Note: There will be spoilers for the plot of Crisis Core FFVII and the original Final Fantasy VII when discussing the symbolism behind the wings. 6o6s1f

Both Angeal and Sephiroth have wings on the same side because of both characters’ unique connection to the Buster Sword. Angeal is the original owner of the sword and ed it down to Zack, who would eventually it down to Cloud, Sephiroth’s nemesis and rival.

Meanwhile, Genesis’ wing is on the opposite side of Sephiroth’s wing to symbolize them being different beings. They were created by Project G and Project S, respectively. Angeal’s white wing symbolizes the character not falling down the wrong path, with Sephiroth and Genesis’ indicating the opposite.

The post was shared on October 4, 2023 which could be read as “tenshi” (10/4,) the Japanese word for “angel.” You can check out the original post by Square Enix here:

Crisis Core FFVII SOLDIER Perks

Square Enix shared new Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII SOLDIER trivia. It explains the various perks 1st Class SOLDIER characters receive. As a reminder, these are the folks like Sephiroth, Angeal, and eventually Zack.

1st Class SOLDIERs an elite group in SOLDIER who are typically sent out onto missions that are extremely difficult or require a specialized skillset. They are the highest level of SOLDIERs at the Shinra Electric Power Company which is why they are afforded so many privileges and perks.

1st Class SOLDIERs are granted the right to refuse a mission. Typically, 3rd Class and 2nd Class SOLDIERs must work any mission assigned to them, but 1st Class SOLDIERs are afforded the perk to refuse a mission due to their unique talents and strength. 1st Class SOLDIERs are also allowed the right to carry special equipment, use items that are not supplied by Shinra, and wear their own clothes.

There are some 1st Class SOLDIERs like Angeal Hewley who prefer to stick to tradition and wear the standard black 1st Class SOLDIER outfit in Final Fantasy VII. This is due to Angeal's commitment to duty and his serious attitude. Others like Sephiroth and Genesis Rhapsodos have modified or completely swapped out standard uniform for more elaborate, distinctive outfits.

Crisis Core FFVII Zack Fair Virtual Reality System

Square Enix shared brand new trivia on the official Final Fantasy VII Remake social media detailing information about Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion’s in-game virtual reality device. The Virtual Reality System (VRS) is a one that creates a virtual space and collects the wearer’s physical data as they take on simulated missions. SOLDIERs are required to wear them for training missions and when they take the SOLDIER class promotion exam.

Zack Fair, the protagonist of Crisis Core: FFVII, is seen wearing the VRS at the beginning of Crisis Core: FFVII during a training mission in Midgar. This training mission Zack undertakes ultimately has him facing off against a virtual Sephiroth. Sephiroth’s virtual data is so powerful that it breaks Zack’s sword.

This virtual reality system can be seen throughout Crisis Core: FFVII in different training rooms in the Shinra Building. VRS is also referenced in the descriptions of various optional in-game missions that take place in simulated spaces. Notably, Professor Hojo's mission quest line heavily utilizes simulated spaces to have Zack fight a variety of difficult foes whose strength has been amplified for experimental study.

Final Fantasy VII Remake also features a Virtual Reality (VR) arena where Cloud Strife can take on various VR missions from a strange boy named Chadley who appears in the Sector 7 Slums. These VR missions allow Cloud to earn Summon materia and items to be used in battle.

Square Enix has been consistently sharing trivia about Final Fantasy VII, including information about Tifa's role in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Rufus Shinra's outfit, and Cloud’s dress in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Tifa in Nibelheim

Square Enix's FFVII Remake Twitter posted new trivia about Tifa Lockhart and her role in Nibelheim during Crisis Core FFVII. Some hardcore Final Fantasy VII fans might be aware of this trivia, but the origin of this information comes from the Japan-exclusive mobile game, Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII.

As described in the recent tweet, Mount Nibel is a complicated mountain for outsiders to navigate as it is infamous for being “the mountain that can never be crossed by the living.” When Shinra sent Sephiroth and Zack to investigate Mount Nibel's Mako Reactor in Chapter 8 of Crisis Core FFVII, they required a local guide with knowledge about the mountain. Tifa was chosen as that guide, but something that is little known by fans is that it was the Turks who actually recommended Tifa to the SOLDIERs. The Turks had been investigating the Mako Reactor on top of Mount Nibel before Sephiroth and the others arrived. Tifa helped one of the Turks navigate the mountain ahead of Crisis Core FFVII's events.

Square Enix has been consistently sharing trivia about Final Fantasy VII, including information about the Turks and one of the three options for Cloud’s dress in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Crisis Core FFVII Final Fantasy X Blitzball easter egg

Square Enix recently shared new information about a Final Fantasy X Blitzball Easter egg included in Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion and its original release. It involves various Gun Bull Head robot enemies in Crisis Core: FFVII being named after Final Fantasy X Blitzball players. These enemies can be found during the sniper minigame in Chapter 9.

The original Japanese tweet shared by the FFVII Remake Twitter reads as follows:

“Surely many of you have recognized before the names of the Gun Bull Heads during the sniping section in Nibel Plains.

Several of them are named after Blitzball players in FFX!

Today (July 19) is the day that #FF10 was released back in 2001!

Congratulations!”

You can also check out the original tweet talking about the Crisis Core FFVII FFX Easter egg here:

https://twitter.com/FFVIIR_CLOUD/status/1681499109247647744

The sniper minigame occurs during Chapter 9 on the Nibel Plains, and shortly after the Nibelheim escape section of the game. In it, Zack has to defeat several Gun Bull Head robots before they flee and alert Shinra troops. While the tweet shared the Japanese names of the Gun Bull Heads, the localized English names of the robots coincide with the names of the Blitzball players in FFX.

The previous Crisis Core: FFVII bit of information shared by Square Enix relates to the Turks, and their tasks within Shinra.

Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

ffvii crisis core turks

Square Enix's FFVII Remake Twitter posted some trivia regarding the Turks as they appear in Crisis Core. This piece of information has to do with the difference between the Turks and the SOLDIERs. In addition, there are a few pictures of Turks such as Reno and Rude.

According to the tweet, the Turks have a long history within Shinra. They existed ever since Shinra was a simple weapon manufacturer. By the time we see Shinra in the game proper, it’s a huge industrial enterprise and mega corporation that influences almost all aspects of the series' world. SOLDIERs are the public face of Shinra’s security department, whereas Turks are the ace up their sleeve in private. Despite that status, Turks historically guarded Sector 8, which is where the Loveless musical usually airs.

Ever since the release of FFVII Remake, Square Enix used its Twitter to share pieces of trivia or behind-the-scenes information on the game. For example, it shared the Remake version of Aerith’s theme, as well as discussed Rufus’s design. There was also an interview that Square Enix had with 4Gamer going into details about how it designed props for the game.

Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Zack Wears a Swimsuit in Final Fantasy VII July 2023 Calendar

Each month, Square Enix releases a Final Fantasy VII calendar, and the July 2023 one features Zack Fair in a swimsuit. This is a nod both to the current summer season and to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion.

Here's the official announcement. It features both landscape and portrait mode versions of the Final Fantasy VII July 2023 calendar to use on a PC/tablet or phone. The announcement also reminds people to stay hydrated in the summer.

In the event Twitter is still limiting the number of tweet and who can view them, here's a gallery of the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Zack swimsuit backgrounds.
[gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="971340,971341" link="file"]

Typically, these calendars also show if one of the characters from the game's birthdays falls in that month. For example, the May 2023 showed Tifa's birthday on May 3rd. However, no characters' birthdays fall in July.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is available for the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives on the PS5 in early 2024.

Crisis Core FFVII lip sync

In an interview with Japanese outlet Automaton, developers at Square Enix and Tose responsible for the recent Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion discussed some details about the development of this remaster. The Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion developers talked about the methods used to remaster a 15-year-old PSP game for modern platforms, the technology used for lip sync, and the process behind adding full voice acting to the game. [Thanks, Automaton!]

Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion uses the CRI LipSync technology from CRI Middleware to emulate realistic lip sync in both the English and Japanese dubs of the game. The game uses a pre-analysis method, which transforms the voice audio into files that determine the movement of the mouth, and can be manually adjusted if needed.

Program Director Haruyuki Yamaguchi of Tose said that adapting the game to Unreal Engine 4 was a relatively easy process. The original PSP game was originally programmed using C++, and since Unreal Engine 4 also uses C++ as its base, there wasn’t much difficulty when changing engines.

While one of the most obvious upgrades in Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is its graphics, another important focus in the remaster was on adding full voice acting. The producer of this remaster, Mariko Sato, cited the series of side missions involving Yuffie as one of the things that benefited from this transition to full voice acting, and event virector Masaru Oka mentioned the scene where Zack gifts Aerith her ribbon in the Midgar slums as a particularly emotional scene.

Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion is immediately available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC via Steam.
