evangelion white cat project

Neon Genesis Evangelion will return to White Cat Project with swimsuit outfits for everyone. The collaboration started on August 9, 2024 and will run until August 22, 2024. [Thanks, Nordot!]

During this event, you’ll be able to get Ikari Shinji, Ayanami Rei, Shikinami Asuka Langley, Makinami Mari Illustrious, and Nagisa Kaworu in the gacha. All of these characters are from the Rebuild of Evangelion film series timeline rather than the original show, much like most collaborations with Neon Genesis Evangelion today. You’ll also be able to get a Jewel Pack that lets you change the characters into their Summer Festival Version outfits.

Here are the Summer Festival Versions of the Evangelion characters as they appear in White Cat Project:

The last time Evangelion appeared in White Cat Project was in 2021. Back then, you could get the Spear of Longinus for free if you completed a specific quest. You could also get the original version of Rei Ayanami after completing the story, and you would have needed the Rebuild version to unlock her. All of the character art for this year’s Evangelion collaboration are, by default, the same as 2021’s.

White Cat Project is available on mobile devices. It is only available in Japanese and within Japan.

dragon quest walk

As of April 24, 2024, Dragon Quest Walk made over $2 billion in revenue for Square Enix. It reached this milestone under five years. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

This information comes from Sensor Tower, which released an analysis report of Dragon Quest Walk on April 24, 2024. Aside from analyzing how much money Dragon Quest Walk accumulated per year, we can also see that it makes the most revenue out of all of Square Enix’s mobile games. When it comes to similar games, people are also spending far more time on Dragon Quest Walk compared to Pikmin Bloom and Pokemon Go. Players spend an average of 192 minutes per week on Pokemon Go and 154 minutes on Pikmin Bloom. In comparison, people average 545 minutes weekly on Dragon Quest Walk.

As mentioned earlier, Dragon Quest Walk is very similar to Pokemon Go and Pikmin Bloom. It’s an AR game in which the phone uses your location information to send your character on adventures. You can also fight various monsters to level up and get items, as well as interact with characters. The quest system makes players go to real-world locations, which will unlock more enemies and characters. As of the time of writing, the game is only available in Japan.

Dragon Quest Walk is readily available on mobile devices in Japan.

colopl

Colopl has announced some of its plans for the future, including something for the 15th anniversary of Steins;Gate. It also plans on releasing several new games, as well as focusing more on blockchain games, AI, and XR/Metaverse. [Thanks, KaroshiMyriad!]

For starters, Colopl will release four new mobile titles, as well as focus on its Shironeko Project IP, as it will be its 10th anniversary. There aren’t any details about what Colopl plans to do for the 15th anniversary of Steins;Gate. However, it states that it will be a “year of new excitement,” and that there will be a collaboration event at Akihabara Radiokaikan. There will be five new console games as well.

As for Colopl’s other projects, 80% of 2500 participants in a beta test for Brilliant Crypto had a positive reception to the game. It’ll come out some time in early Spring 2024. Brilliant Crypto will be a sustainable play-to-earn blockchain game. There will be another closed beta in December 2023, and this one will have multiplayer and AI features that weren’t in the previous one. Finally, Colopl has signed a partnership with Pixel Canvas Inc. This is a metaverse platform that’s based in the US, which uses the Unreal Engine. Colopl specifically mentioned the Unreal Engine in the report, as it will help to expand metaverse services.

This information was in the FY September 2023/4Q result report on Colopl’s website. The report also gave details on Colopl’s profits and losses. In 4Q, it made 8.4 billion JPY, with a total of 30.9 billion JPY for the whole year. According to the report, Colopl saw some declines in sales, but some of its older titles sold better than in 2022. As a whole, it’s incurring some impairment losses. However, it plans to continue with its aggressive investments, and will make back some of its money by selling shares.

You can read the entire report for Colopl here.

Alice Gear Aegis CS Best Gear

Alice Gear Aegis CS Concerto of Simulatrix is out, and with the sheer number of weapons and gear pieces available for its twenty-two playable characters, you might be wondering which items to buy first. Luckily, the game's gear system only looks complicated at first, and we've come up with a capsule guide to help you find the best gear in Alice Gear Aegis CS.

Explaining Alice Gear Aegis CS' Gear System 6b622q

Every playable Actress in Alice Gear Aegis CS has four pieces of gear to wear:

  • Firearm Gear - One of 4 types of ranged weapon: rifle, SMG, rocket launcher, and sniper rifle
  • Clash Gear - A melee weapon, either a greatsword, sword and shield, spear, or hammer
  • Torso Gear - Gear worn on the arms and shoulders of the Actress
  • Legs Gear - Gear worn on the legs and waist of the Actress

There's a range of items available, and many variations in multiple elements. Most pieces of gear in the game can be worn by any Actress, with some notable exceptions, for the best gear.

Though there's a lot of gear available in the pool, for the most part you want to focus on getting both unique gear sets for every Actress. Unique gear, i.e. pieces that are patterned on the "canonical" equipment worn by the Actress in question, are built for that specific actress, and unlock unique abilities. Each Actress has two gear sets. A cheaper, "low-tier" set that's generally a customized variation of the common gear, and a genuinely unique "high-tier" gear set made just for them. Low-tier gear can be shared between different Actresses, while high-tier gear can only be worn by the specific Actress. You can identify unique gear pieces by looking at them in the Gear Shop. If the gear icon has a small picture of the Actresses' face on it, that's their unique gear.

[caption id="attachment_955796" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Unique Gear items are identified by the little face on the icon.[/caption]

In general, high-tier unique gear is the best gear in Alice Gear Aegis CS, and unless you're getting very deep into trying to build a setup that's uniquely your own, you should focus your efforts on acquiring the unique gear sets above others. Those pieces have the highest stats and unlock unique abilities that suit the Actresses' fighting style. Getting unique gear early on simplifies your choices, and cuts down on the amount of grinding you'll need to do to unlock everything.

Another bonus of purchasing unique gear sets is that they unlock character-specific poses in the "Preview" function, the better to enjoy the design or set up for some screenshots.

To further improve your efficiency grinding, use your first run of a story to purchase an Actresses' low-tier gear, then their high-tier gear by the end of the story. If you don't spend money on costumes or accessories, you should have enough left over to purchase the low-tier gear of a new Actress, giving you a head start on your next story run. By the time you've gotten all the best gear in Alice Gear Aegis CS, you'll have plenty of coins left over to buy costumes and accessories for your favorite characters.

Alice Gear Aegis CS is available on the PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Check out Siliconera's official review of the Switch edition.

Alice Gear Aegis CS Concerto of Simulatrix

Girls wearing mecha parts. That is the core concept of "Mecha Musume," and love for the idea lies at the very core of Alice Gear Aegis CS Concerto of Simulatrix. The game is a spin-off of the (Japan-exclusive) Alice Gear Aegis mobile game, bringing its characters and world to consoles.

Like the original, Alice Gear Aegis CS takes place in the future, centuries after humanity was forced to abandon Earth due to the invasion of the Vice, an alien race. The remnants of humankind have taken to the stars, inhabiting "Shards," spacefaring replicas of Earthbound life built into floating pieces of what used to be the moon. Defending these colonies are "Actresses," young women who can channel a mysterious energy to power the titular Alice Gear. A suite of powerful weapons worn and wielded by each Actress in battle, they're the only effective weapons against the Vice. This Actress system's proven so successful that defense against the aliens has been privatized, with up-and-coming Actresses working for various agencies like weaponized idol units.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9EBPb80slE

Concerto of Simulatrix flips the script on the mobile game's alien-shooting setup. Instead of fighting the Vice, the 22 playable Actresses of Alice Gear Aegis are taking aim at each other. The scenario is the testing of a new simulation technology and the accompanying tournament to popularize it. For three weeks, friend will fight friend, teammate will fight teammate, and the Actresses will be (temporary) adversaries in the pursuit of fame, glory, and fat stacks of cash.

That's actually about the extent of the story. There's not much of a central plot in Alice Gear Aegis CS. The story mode plays out like many a fighting game's arcade mode. You pick a character, and play a dozen or so fights with them, seeing a few story scenes focused on them or their team before it's over. Then you'll buy some new gear or cosmetic accessories with the money you earned fighting and pick a new character to do it all over again.

The story path is represented as a grid of hexes players need to navigate. Each hex on the map is one of the 21 days of the tournament, and most hexes represent a one-on-one fight with another Actress. A few times over the course of the three-week run, you'll take on a team battle that features your Actress and two teammates against a team of three other Actresses. In story mode, all the teams and alliances are locked in: Yotsuyu will always fight alongside her friends Sitara and Fumika, and Meika will always be accompanied by her drinking buddies Anna and Mari. These team battles represent the bulk of Alice Gear Aegis CS' storytelling, since they involve bits of dialog and a few scenes between the character, their teammates, and their opponents.

Each character has a unique story path, but none of them are particularly involved. The game is clearly intended to be a sort of fan-service title for players familiar with the core Alice Gear Aegis mobile game. Aside from a few capsule profiles and detailed item descriptions, the writing and dialog are written presuming players know who these characters are and why they're connected to each other.

Unfortunately, most of the people playing the English version of Alice Gear Aegis CS are likely to be experiencing the series for the very first time. The mobile game is Japan-exclusive and aside from an animated series set to debut in April 2023, there's basically no other media able to tell the core story or do the heavy lifting of introducing the world and characters to the audience.

That's a shame, since the characters seem fun, if not particularly novel. I'm particularly amused by the antics of Meika Yorozuba. When not flying around as an Actress, Meika is the CEO of one of the companies that manufactures Alice Gears and often uses her battles to show off new merchandise. The twist is that Meika is the stereotypical "gyaru" archetype, a party-girl character who revels in tanned skin, dyed hair, garishly fashionable clothing, and an almost incomprehensibly thick, slang-laden street dialect.

If Alice Gear Aegis CS isn't as well-ed by its writing or storytelling, its simple-but-solid mechanics make the experience of playing it pleasantly engaging. The transition from a microtransaction-based mobile game to a single-player arena fighter has proven to be fairly smooth. Alice Gear Aegis CS plays like a simplified version of Virtual On or the Gundam VS series. Players can move their characters back and forth, and are automatically locked onto a hostile target. They can then fire their weapons, most of which have automatic aim and some level of homing or tracking movement. They can also use different abilities depending on their equipped Alice Gear. Different gear sets have different abilities, ranging from homing lasers to missile barrages to ring-shaped floating traps.

Being based on a 2018-era title meant for smartphones, the game's visuals aren't top-of-the-line, but they run without a hitch on even the aging hardware of my launch-model Switch. I only detected drops in performance when playing the six-player Battle Royale fights in handheld mode. At all other times, gameplay was smooth and responsive. I sadly wasn't able to test online multiplayer, but Alice Gear Aegis CS s both casual and ranked matching. Like the free battles, multiplayer allows much more freedom in team compositions, letting you experiment with the best combinations of girls and gear.

There's also a wealth of different gear options to earn for the characters. Aside from a pool of common gear anyone can use, each character has two Alice Gear sets unique to them. One is a cheaper "low-tier" set that anyone can use but is tailored to its assigned character, and one is a high-tier exclusive set that only they can use. That's pretty much their best gear set, which tends to obviate the need to consider other in-game factors like elemental properties.

The story mode, where most of your coins will be earned, will usually hand out enough money in a single run to buy up both of a characters' unique gear sets and get a head start on a set for a new character. However, players with a need to unlock everything, particularly costumes, should expect to grind the story at least twice on every character. This can be quite repetitious, since even accessories that aren't character-specific need to be bought for every individual character. This is one aspect where the mobile game-like grinding could stand to be toned down.

Though Alice Gear Aegis CS Concerto of Simulatrix won't wow mecha fans with its storytelling, its substantial content base and appealing characters make it a pleasant distraction, and a showcase for top-notch mecha musume designs.

Alice Gear Aegis CS is available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5.

monster universe

Colopl’s new 3D action-RPG, Monster Universe, will come out in late January 2023. It will be available for mobile devices, as well as for Windows PC via Steam. You can breed, raise, and battle monsters in it. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The goal of the game is to raise monsters that are able to use a wide variety of different skills and use them to explore Fort Lemuria Island. You will fight against enemies “as one” with your monsters. In screenshots of the game, it shows the playable human characters fighting alongside the monsters they bred. While there are no concrete details on how the breeding mechanic will work, the developer announced you can make your monster and your friend’s monster mate.

As for the plot, you are trying to revive Volzark, which is a guardian dragon of a certain legendary island. The game will be free-to-play, though you can unlock more playable characters as paid DLC. Unlike FTP mobile games like Genshin Impact or Fate/Grand Order, you will immediately be able to play until the end of the main story in Monster Universe.

Colopl previously worked on Shironeko Project, and is the parent company of game developer Mages. Monster Universe is the very first multi-platform project that Colopl handled. According to Colopl, the development team put a lot of work into the system, and it was a challenging title to work on.

Monster Universe will come out for smartphones and Windows PC through Steam in late January 2023. English for it will come out in a future update.

Alice Gear Aegis

Mecha musume mobile game Alice Gear Aegis is coming to consoles. Publisher Colopl announced the development during the game's 4th Anniversary livestream event on January 21, 2022. The announcement was also confirmed via the official Twitter .

https://twitter.com/colopl_alice/status/1484486263923036161?s=20

The announcement itself can be seen on the livestream archive at the 52-minute mark.

The tweet also included new art by Alice Gear Aegis character designer Fumikane Shimada. Shimada is famous for being at the forefront of the "mecha musume" boom of the early 2000s, when anime and games featured female characters wearing mechanical dresses or parts. Shimada contributed character designs to series like Sky Girls, Strike Witches, Busou Shinki, Kantai Collection, Frame Arms Girl, and to non-mecha musume titles like Fate/Grand Order (the character Galatea's design). Items and costumes from the game made their way into Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation in 2020.

Though the announcement mentioned a 2022 release window for the console editions, it did not specify which platforms would be covered. Nor did it mention a chance of an English or international release. The same livestream also announced the production of an anime TV series based on Alice Gear Aegis. A teaser trailer was on hand to preview.

Alice Gear Aegis originally launched for mobile platforms in 2018 in Japan. It's a sci-fi action game, where humanity is fighting a losing war against the interdimensional alien race "Weiss". Weiss, being impervious to normal weapons, quickly defeated humankind, driving it to near extinction. Humanity survived by converting a shard of the moon into a massive colony ship and escaping the solar system. During the long exodus, scientists discovered "super-dimensional energy", a mysterious power source that can only be manipulated by young women. Thus came the Alice Gear, a weapons system designed to allow its wearer to use super-dimensional energy to break past the Weiss' defenses. Three centuries after the exodus, the anti-Weiss organization Aegis manages various "Actresses", the job title of an Alice Gear wearer.

Alice Gear Aegis is available on mobile platforms in Japan, and will come to consoles in 2022.

White Cat Project Evangelion

Colopl revealed a new White Cat Project collaboration with Evangelion which adds fully voiced playable pilot characters. In addition to an entirely original scenario, the collaboration also rewards players with the Spear of Longinus after completing a specific quest. The Evangelion collaboration will run until November 30, 2021. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

During the event, players will have access to a special collaboration gacha featuring Shinji, Asuka, Rei (Rebuild), Mari, and Kaworu. Players can roll the gacha for free once every day. Notably, all of the characters are voiced by their original actors, including Megumi Ogata as Shinji Ikari. The five Eva pilots are modeled after their appearances in the recent Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

Players can also acquire the original Rei Ayanami by completing the collaboration story scenario in normal mode. The original Rei will require Rei (Rebuild) in order to unlock. Similarly, players will also receive the Spear of Longinus once they complete a specific story mission. Any character with the Lancer job can equip the Spear of Longinus.

Finally, players can also dress up White Cat Project characters in Evangelion plugsuits, though at a significant cost. Colopl is offering jewel packs at ¥10,000 each (about $87). These packs include jewels, collaboration character and weapon tickets, and other upgrade currencies. From the second purchase onward, players will also receive special collaboration outfit tickets for Charlotte, Oscroll, and Rekuto.
