Activision has unveiled details about the crossover content from the Mobile Suit Gundam series that will appear in Call of Duty games. The titles that will receive this content are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. The first two are available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. Meanwhile, the latter is a mobile game for Android and iOS devices.

The units that will be featured in this collaboration are the RX-78-2 Gundam and the Char Aznable custom MS-06S Zaku II from the first Mobile Suit Gundam title, as well as the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial from The Witch From Mercury.

All images for the Gundam crossover content, including the teaser video published earlier, were taken on the new Tokyo map. The 6v6 core map based on Japan's capital city will newly appear in Modern Warfare III's Season 4 update.

Bandai Namco has also published a Japanese press release that specifies the sales periods for the Gundam Tracer Pack bundles. The bundles' releases will also go in line with the "Mobile Suit Gundam Legends" event, which Activision will hold on June 5-19, 2024.

  • MS-06S Zaku II (Char Aznable custom) - June 2, 2024, to August 31, 2024
  • XVX-016 Gundam Aerial - June 4, 2024, to September 2, 2024
  • RX-78-2 Gundam - June 6, 2024, to September 4, 2024

The Mobile Suit Gundam series crossover content will be available to obtain in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile from June 2, 2024, to September 4, 2024.

Gundam content teaser in Call of Duty

New crossover content from the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise will appear in the Call of Duty series. Activision and Bandai Namco have published a teaser tweet on their respective X s. The tweet includes a brief video showing a Gundam shadow silhouette imposed on a Japanese city building.

Neither company has specified which title will receive the Gundam crossover content, as there are multiple Call of Duty titles running concurrently. However, the "Season 4" mention in the teaser tweet can narrow down the titles. While Call of Duty: Mobile is about to enter Season 5, Modern Warfare III and Warzone 2.0 are both still in Season 3 as of May 2024.

A prior anime collaboration may also provide another clue to the new crossover content's availability. In early 2022, Activision released crossover content based on Attack on Titan for both the original Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard. It featured multiple bundles that let players obtain exclusive weapon blueprints and operator skins. The latter included the Armored Titan and Levi's Survey Corps uniform.

The teaser tweet is available to view right below:

https://twitter.com/CallofDuty/status/1792238845557133808

In-game crossover content from the Gundam franchise used to be rarely seen outside of Bandai Namco's own crossover titles like Super Robot Wars and Another Century's Episode. However, a number of external games have managed to achieve the feat in recent years. The Japanese mobile games Puzzle & Dragons and Monster Strike are examples of those titles.

Activision and Bandai Namco will reveal more details about the Mobile Suit Gundam crossover content in the Call of Duty series in the coming days.

The recent Call of Duty games, published by Square Enix in Japan, have done reasonably well in of sales, with Modern Warfare 2 selling around 178,000 copies during the week of its debut. For a first-person shooter, that's fantastic.

Now, Square are preparing a real treat for their Call of Duty fanbase. For Call of Duty: Black Ops, Square Enix are going to release two versions of the game -- one with English voices and Japanese subtitles, and the other fully dubbed in Japanese.

The subtitled version will hit the market first on November 18th. The dubbed version will follow a month later on December 16th. Square revealed on their Call of Duty: Black Ops blog -- yes, such a thing exists -- that, in to a poll they conducted, 60% of participants voted for subtitles while 40% preferred a full dub.

Interestingly, Spike conducted a similar poll on a much larger scale last year. You can view the results here.

If there’s one thing Activision is known for its milking franchises and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is their biggest cash cow. Freshly filed trademarks suggest spinoffs are in the cards.

The mega publisher just ed trademarks for Call of Duty Space Warfare, Call of Duty Secret Warfare, Call of Duty Future Warfare, and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. In addition to those, Activision also filed paperwork for Secret Warfare, Space Warfare, and Future Warfare individually.

Prepare yourself for Call of Duty space marines, people.

A few weeks ago, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 pleasantly surprised market watchers with its strong debut in the Japanese market, selling 178,000 units in its first week across the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Data from Enterbrain has now additionally confirmed that the original Modern Warfare has topped the "Best" line -- similar to the "Platinum range" or "Greatest hits" re-releases in the West -- on the PS3 at 88,573 units sold. The following are the available numbers for all versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in Japan:

Title Sales System Publisher
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 113,957 PS3 Ubisoft
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (The Best) 88,573 PS3 Square Enix
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 54,752 Xbox 360 Activision
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Platinum Coll.) 24,567 Xbox 360 Square Enix

Other strong performers in the "Best" line on PS3 were Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds at 88,346 units and Valkyria Chronicles at 81,625 units. We would recommend glossing over the complete list at the link above; the remaining entries across both the PS3 and 360 are interesting.

Seems like countdowns for western developed games don't get as much care and effort put into them in Japan. While the new Lord of Vermillion and Four Warriors of Light's countdowns at least attempted to keep us in suspense, Square's latest teaser site is clearly for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

If the big "2" from the Modern Warfare 2 logo doesn't give it away, Activision and Call of Duty being credited at the bottom of the page certainly does.

Square Enix have been taking quite the interest in Western games of late, even outside of their acquisition of Eidos. They've already published Lost Winds (Wiiware) and Quantam of Solace in Japan, and will also be publishing Supreme Commander 2 in the West once it's completed.

With Capcom publishing GTA and Square now grabbing the rights to Call of Duty, what other big Western franchises can Japanese publishers compete for?
