Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for the Gundam collaboration in Call of Duty. The trailer is under a minute long and it shows off the various Gundams you’ll be able to play as. [Thanks, Gundam Info!]

You can watch the trailer here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtX883ULUb8

In the trailer, we can see the Gundam, the Aerial, and the Char Zaku II. Each pack include the mobile suits wielding weapons familiar with fans of their respective shows, along with charms and stickers. It seems that they chose two of the more recognizable Gundams (as the original Gundam and Char’s Zaku II were from the original series) and one from the newest one. The latest mainline entry in the Gundam anime series was The Witch From Mercury, with Aerial serving as protagonist Suletta’s machine.

Here’s when each Tracer Pack will be available, as well as how long you’ll have to get them:

  • Zaku II: June 2 to August 31, 2024
  • Aerial: June 4 to September 2, 2024
  • Gundam: June 6 to September 4, 2024

There will also be a Mobile Suit Gundam Legends event from June 6 to June 20, 2024. During this time, you can get Gundam-themed rewards. Those with the above Gundam skins will also have additional bonuses.

The Gundam collaboration will be in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. The event will run from June 2 to September 4, 2024. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and WIndows PC. Call of Duty: Warzone is readily available on the PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, with the mobile version on Android and iOS devices.

Gundam crossover content coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare III and Warzone 2

Activision has unveiled details about the crossover content from the Mobile Suit Gundam series that will appear in Call of Duty games. The titles that will receive this content are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. The first two are available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. Meanwhile, the latter is a mobile game for Android and iOS devices.

The Gundam content will appear as part of the Season 4 update for the aforementioned titles. The units that will be featured in this collaboration are the RX-78-2 Gundam and the Char Aznable custom MS-06S Zaku II from the first Mobile Suit Gundam title, as well as the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial from The Witch From Mercury.

All images for the Gundam crossover content, including the teaser video published earlier, were taken on the new Tokyo map. The 6v6 core map based on Japan's capital city will newly appear in Modern Warfare III's Season 4 update.

Bandai Namco has also published a Japanese press release that specifies the sales periods for the Gundam Tracer Pack bundles. The bundles' releases will also go in line with the "Mobile Suit Gundam Legends" event, which Activision will hold on June 5-19, 2024.

With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Activision spared no expense in giving the game all of the classic elements of the series, which means the return of the ever-popular Call of Duty Zombies. In this mode, players get many different weapons, tools, and customization options to do battle in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, and one of these features is the insured slot for your weapons.

What are Insured Slots in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies? 36p22

Insured slots in Modern Warfare 3: Zombies are an integral tool for your survival. The Insured Slot is a weapon of your choice that you bring with you onto the battlefield. When you lose it, it will simply enter a cooldown status for several hours. This is in contrast to contraband weapons, which you lose permanently when you lose them in battle. This is an important feature, as it always ensures that you have a gun handy when you descend onto the battlefield.

On the other hand, Contraband weapons are those you pick up in battle. They are lost when you die. You will start out with a single insured weapon slot, but you can gain more. Be careful which weapon you pick before you can unlock more slots.

Players unlock more insured slots by completing missions in Zombies Mode. You earn a slot for each of the two acts you complete in Zombies. Unlike other mission tasks, each of the acts is a total of many smaller missions, with six tiers in total. For example, "Direct Line" has you complete a contract on the map, and "Treasure Hunter" has you open a certain number of chests. Even if it will be a long time until you receive your extra slots, you will have motivation to continue.

MW3 campaign review

Throughout the Call of Duty franchise, critical fans have argued that the single-player campaign often feels like a tutorial for the real meat of the game: multiplayer. If that argument rings true for any game, though, it is Modern Warfare 3, as the MW3 campaign is a glorified Warzone tutorial.

Picking up immediately after 2022’s MW2 campaign, this seemingly rushed title from developer Sledgehammer Games is a direct sequel to the previous game. This feels odd in-and-of itself for a series, which usually hops between sub-series each year. But the main issue with the single-player MW3 campaign isn’t its continuity but its length and structure.

Sure, it has some of the classic blockbuster cinematic action movie-like missions you know and expect from the series. But these are few and far between, with the bulk of the campaign being the new open-world-like missions. You are dumped into an open map with few objectives, such as stealing some items or planting a GPS.

These freeform objectives sound fun and intriguing at a glance, but the execution is quite poor. It turns out you can ignore and run past most enemies, making the missions relatively easy and nothing more than a slightly more focused version of DMZ. They offer no challenge, which results in the mode feeling like a tutorial for the core battle royale experience.

This is even right down to the fact you have armor plates like in the battle royale mode. You even open up supply crates and can loot weapons you find, and so on. The actual story elements within these open missions are scarce as well. You pretty much play a DMZ mission for 10-20 minutes to then get some actual story cutscenes as a reward.

Screenshot by Siliconera

This would be somewhat acceptable if the occasional traditional missions were actually good. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case, either. The opening mission of breaking Makarov out of prison feels messy and random. But the biggest culprit of the “traditional” CoD story mission comes from the later one, “engers.”

This is, unfortunately, the direct sequel to the infamous “No Russian” no one asked for. Without spoiling too much, this triggering and problematic mission sees you forced to hijack a plane in the middle of the sky. It may not go as dark as Call of Duty’s most unforgettable (in a bad way) campaign mission, but it still goes further than it should.

As for the actual story itself, this doesn’t necessarily do anything impressive. I certainly enjoyed the characters and plot from even recent games like Vanguard more than this one. With how throwaway this single-player campaign feels like, it honestly reeks of DLC material in its short, 3-4-hour length. In my opinion, you are better off watching the cutscenes on YouTube at this point. And then you can save time for what will presumably be more enjoyable in the multiplayer, Zombies, and actual Warzone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Activision Blizzard announced through social media that the company currently has no plans to put Diablo IV or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Xbox Game . Activision Blizzard mentioned that while working towards regulatory approval for the Microsoft deal, they do not have plans to add these games to Game . Once the deal has closed, they will be working closely with Xbox to bring games to players around the world. The company anticipates adding games from their catalog to Game by next year.

Microsoft announced plans to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion back in January 2022, and the acquisition included studios like King, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Toys for Bob. They are currently on track to finalize the acquisition on October 18, 2023.

Diablo IV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC through Battle.net. The Steam version will be released on October 17, 2023. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III releases on November 10, 2023, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

With 2011 over and done with, the NPD Group have released a list of the top-10 selling games (via physical retail channels) during the year. You can peruse this list below:

Rank Title System Publisher
01. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS3, 360, Wii, PC Activision Blizzard
02. Just Dance 3 PS3, 360, Wii Ubisoft
03. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PS3, 360, PC Bethesda Softworks
04. Battlefield 3 PS3, 360, PC Electronic Arts
05. Madden NFL 12 PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, PS2 Electronic Arts
06. Call of Duty: Black Ops PS3, 360, Wii, PC, DS Activision Blizzard

08. Gears of War 3 360 Microsoft
09. Just Dance 2 Wii Ubisoft
10. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations PS3, 360, PC Ubisoft

A few points to note about 2011: 1. Total consumer spend on videogame-related content and hardware via physical channels was down 8% in 2011 as compared to the previous year.   2. However, the NPD Group estimate that other forms of monetization — used games, digital full game and add-on content s, mobile games, social network games, subscriptions and rentals — saw an increase of 7% over 2010, offsetting the drop in total physical spend to an extent.   3. The bottom line is that total consumer spend in 2011 across all categories is estimated to be down approximately 5%.   4. The Xbox 360 was the best-selling platform in the U.S. in 2011, and both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 saw increased sales over 2010.   5. Driven by Just Dance sales, the dance genre grew 66% over 2010.

Gather around, kiddies; it’s that time of the month. The NPD Group’s report for December is in, and NPD analyst, Anita Frazier, says that December was a “rough month” for physical sales of games software, hardware and accessories. For starters, total videogame sales in December were down 21% compared to 2010.

“Because of the great slate of content that came to market during the fourth quarter, I had expected December sales to represent a larger portion of total year sales than what occurred,” Frazier says. “This year, December ed for just 23% of annual sales, while the average for the past ten years has been 28.”

Hardware sales in December were hit particularly hard. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS were the only consoles to see a sales increase from November, which is unusual as this trend is usually visible across all platforms. Total spend in 2011 was down 5%.

That said, 2011 was bright for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, both of which saw increased sales of 5% across all categories over 2010.

The top-10 software sales chart for December 2011 was as follows:

Rank Title System Publisher
01. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS3, 360, Wii, PC Activision Blizzard
02. Just Dance 3 PS3, 360, Wii Ubisoft
03. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PS3, 360, PC Bethesda Softworks
04. Mario Kart 7 3DS Nintendo
05. Battlefield 3 PS3, 360, PC Electronic Arts
06. Madden NFL 12 PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, PS2 Electronic Arts
07. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations PS3, 360, PC Ubisoft
08. NBA 2K12 PS3, 360, Wii, PC, PSP, PS2 Take 2 Interactive
09. Super Mario 3D Land 3DS Nintendo
10. Batman: Arkham City PS3, 360, PC Warner Bros.

Two more things to note about the software sales chart:

1. Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC-only) was the 14th best-selling title in December.

2. Were the software sales chart ranked by sales on individual consoles, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would have been the 10th best-selling SKU for the month.

Period: The week of December 19th – December 25th (2011) Top-seller: Mario Kart 7 – 260,836 Nintendo 3DS sales: 482,200 | Total sales: 4,084,190 PlayStation Vita sales: 72,479 | Total sales: 397,338   Media-Create’s sales figures back up what Enterbrain reported earlier this week: Christmas saw Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 cross the 1 million mark in Japan, while Nintendo 3DS sales crossed 4 million. Monster Hunter 3G had another week of reasonably strong sales as well, and should cross the million mark itself in about two weeks’ time.   3DS saw a new release last week, too: SD Gundam G Generation 3D, which had a very nice 3DS bundle. This game sold close to 91,000 copies in its first week. For the curious, here are first week sales of the PSP G Generation titles: SD Gundam G Generation Portable (2006): 155,634 SD Gundam G Generation World (2011): 192,981   Future SD Gundam G Generation titles will likely sell more as the 3DS acquires a greater base over time.   Tecmo Koei released Warriors Orochi 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last week, too. While the 360 version didn’t chart, the PlayStation 3 version sold 200,526 copies. Further down the list, Inazuma Eleven Strikers Xtreme 2012, an upgraded re-release of Inazuma Eleven Strikers, sold about 10k more than the original in its first week.   Overall, you can see the holiday effect in all its glory in the sales chart below. Several Wii and DS titles third and first-party titles received boosts from the holidays (compared to the week prior), and even Mario Kart Wii made a return to the top-20. Konami’s new Magician’s Quest title on the DS is doing well, too, and I expect we’ll see it brought back on the 3DS sooner rather than later.   Unfortunately, PlayStation Vita sales took a steep dive, with only 72,000 Vita devices selling during the week. No Vita software was present in the top-20, and the system was outsold by the PSP by a wide margin (PSP sold 100k). Meanwhile, Konami’s Frontier Gate, released last week on PSP, failed to chart in the top-20.   The full top-20 for the week is as follows:

Long story short: North America saw lots of sequels released in November and they all sold better than their predecessors, according to the NPD Group. Let's take these in order:

#1 - First month sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bested last year’s Black Ops by about 7%.

#2 - In one month, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sold 5x the amount Oblivion did in the same timeframe. In a month, the game was just half a million copies short of Oblivion's lifetime sales.

#3 - Battlefield 3 is the best-selling game in the Battlefield series to date.

#9 - This isn't from the NPD Group, but Nintendo of America reported that Skyward Sword is the fastest-selling Zelda game of all time. The game sold 600,000 copies in its first.

#10 - Following strong sales, Batman: Arkham City is just shy of Arkham Asylum's lifetime sales.

Finally, while it isn't on the list, Super Mario 3D Land is the fastest-selling portable Mario game ever. It sold 625,000 copies in November. It and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary would have charted in the top-ten had the chart been broken up by sales on individual platforms.

Here’s the full top-10 chart for the month:

Period: The week of November 14th – November 20th (2011)

Top-seller: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Subtitled) – 180,372

Nintendo 3DS sales: 96,219 | Total sales: 2,557,096

Last week was an interesting ones for video game sales in Japan. Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, published in Japan by Square Enix, topped the chart, with 180,000 copies sold in its first week on the PlayStation 3. Lower in the chart, the Xbox 360 version sold another 30,000 copies.

That’s a higher number than the previous game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, sold within the same timeframe. Black Ops sold 129,000 copies in its first week, back in November 2010.

At #2 was One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 for the Nintendo DS, pulling in some very impressive numbers of its own. Then, at #3, was Level 5’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. This game...didn’t do well, all things considered.

Wrath of the White Witch sold just 67,000 copies in its first week on the PlayStation 3. For the sake of comparison, the Nintendo DS version of Ni no Kuni, released in 2010, sold 170,548 copies in its first week. It eventually went on to sell over 500,000 copies in total, albeit after a few price cuts. This has probably given Level 5 a few things to think about.

The complete top-20 chart for the week was as follows:
