Bleach Rebirth of Souls offers some solid, fun battles that are still entertaining even if they move at a slower pace. A fair amount of thought has gone into weaving multiple elements into its battle systems, giving you varied yet straightforward options that can bring depth to a fight. However, the repetitiveness of some elements, the pacing of its story mode, and the downright vacant online mode may make you rightfully hesitate to dive into this one unless you’re dying for a game about the anime.

There are a lot of systems to wrestle with when you first start playing the game. Something that took me off-guard (but I got used to fairly quickly) were the semi-Resident Evil tank controls at play in combat in this 3D fighter. Forward and back move you forward and back, with left or right on the stick making you step to either side. It seemed weird at first, but given how you’ll often want to be focusing your movement on your enemy, it made a lot of sense even if it initially felt limited.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls also throws several mechanics at you. There isn’t a set system of rounds, but instead, you have a number of Konpaku (lives) located on your Reishi (health) bar. You need to deplete all of these to defeat your opponent, which is something you can do when your opponent is at low or no health with a special Kikon Move. If your enemy’s health is empty, they’ll take a number of Konpaku damage specific to that Kikon Move (each eats up varying amounts). If you do it when the opponent is just low on health, it will deal one less Konpaku damage. Still, it might be worth just taking the faster hit when they’re low if it will end the match.

Things are further complicated by other elements. When your enemy’s health is low, the damage you do to them is modified and reduced. You can counter this by using Spiritual Pressure (special moves done with L2 and triangle/circle) or some other moves, so you need to watch those life bars or else it’ll feel like you’re chopping down a tree with your hands. Sometimes pouring on the damage is worth it as you can put your enemy in Guard Break with a ton of hits, dealing extra damage. However, your opponent also regenerates Reverse (Special) Gauge faster when at low health, so they can turn the tide with more special moves or Hoho teleports to zip behind you.

The systems in Bleach Rebirth of Souls aren’t terribly complicated but offer some nice depth, but it’s so filled with jargon that it feels a lot harder to figure out than it actually is. It took me a lot more time to figure out what I should actually be doing and looking out for until I sat down with pictures of the tutorial messages and just wrote out what the various meant in fighting game I could comprehend. When I figured them out I started to enjoy myself more, but it took some work.

I also had to wrestle with a handful of things during combat that sucked some of the fun out of it. Despite being a 3D fighter, things move at a lot slower of a pace than others I’ve played. It feels designed for a more careful approach (until you have Reverse Meter to burn for teleports), which made some moments feel slugging and annoying as I plodded toward the enemy, my bar empty. They’ll approach you soon enough, but it did feel mildly irritating waiting.

More annoyingly, the Kikon Move animations get old fairly fast due to the predictability of when they happen. Since you have to use one of a handful of these moves to cut down on your opponent’s lives every single time, you’ll typically watch these moves a handful of times every match. Every character has a few, but it felt like the animations got old fast and I just wanted to move on to the rest of the fight instead of watching them every time someone’s health got low. It doesn’t help that the game’s announcer speaks like how you sound when you repeat what someone just said in a weird voice to make fun of them. I know that’s a weird explanation, but listen to it once and see if you don’t believe me.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is fun once you get over the jargon-y names of its mechanics and some nuisance elements. It’s not exactly wowing me, but as far as 3D fighters go, it’s one of the better ones.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls Patch Ends Infinite Extended Combos

When Bleach Rebirth of Souls launched, it featured a number of issues like PC crashes, and the latest patch fixes an infinite extended combos issue that can arise. 1.04 keeps those from kicking in and happening due to a bug. There are also fixes for 19 character issues and the Battle and Free Match modes.

The Bleach Rebirth of Souls infinite extended combos issue ended up being the biggest problem. This is because it wasn’t just some offline issue that could help people beat friends or get through the story a little easier. This problem specifically came up during online fights. How it worked is during wake-up, there would be unblockable frames. So the person who started a combo would get to keep up an onslaught and there’d be no way to halt it. That’s gone now.

Some of the other additions involve the general fights. If you’re in a Battle, you can tweak how the fights look. If you’re not in a story mode fight, you can change it so Spiritual Pressure names won’t show up. You can also make the Reverse Action animations not take away from a match time limit. In Free Match, a fight now lasts 300 seconds (five minutes). There are also new defaults. The region and connection speed options are unlimited when you first get in. You also won’t get Soul Crystals and Spirit Talismans unless you enable them.

Here are the full 1.04 Bleach Rebirth of Souls patch notes that end the infinite extended combos, adjust Free Match and Battle, and change or fix issues with 19 characters.

Bandai Namco Aware of Bleach Rebirth of Souls PC Crash Reports Steam

Bleach Rebirth of Souls launched for consoles and the PC via Steam, and Bandai Namco confirmed it is aware of many PC crash reports. It announced Tamsoft is working on a patch and also shared a few possible solutions that might help in the meantime. The console versions don't seem to be affected.

There are two times when people tend to be experiencing a crash or other problem impeding play in the PC version of Bleach Rebirth of Souls bought via Steam. One involves it crashing immediately after the introduction and seeing the Bandai Namco and Tamsoft logos. This might be tied to using multiple monitors. If you do, Bandai Namco says not to switch between them. The other option might involve only seeing a red screen or the game crashing. The solution there is to change the Graphic Quality setting.

Here are the exact instructions Bandai Namco shared for the graphic adjustment that might fix one problem:

If you are encountering a red screen, please try the following solution.

Please change the display quality from [Automatically select on Windows] to [High performance] in the Application options (graphics basic settings)

Bandai Namco also requested anyone filing crash reports provide two pieces of information. One is to share the Windows system software version by sharing the edition of windows, the version, and the OS build. It also asked if you are using the Quality, Balanced, or Performance Graphic Quality option.

As of 12:30pm ET on March 21, 2025, over 1,100 comments appeared in a Steam discussion thread about the Bleach Rebirth of Souls PC crash reports. People also reported issues with shaders, audio not playing properly, and frame rate issues.

3 Versions of Ichigo Kurosaki Are in Bleach Rebirth of Souls

It’s common in fighting games based on anime series for there to be multiple versions of the same character, and that will happen with Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach Rebirth of Souls. Initially, Bandai Namco confirmed standard and Bankai versions of the series’ lead. Now, it revealed a third version called Ichigo Kurosaki (Final Getsugatensho) will also be playable.

This version of Ichigo doesn’t look all that different. He’s still in his substitute Soul Reaper uniform. He’s also wielding his Zanpakuto Tensa Zangetsu. However, his moveset for the Final Getsugatensho version will be different from the ones available in his standard and Bankai ones. So for this incarnation, his signature move is the Abrupt Throw. This has an option of potentially also leading into a follow-up attack, guaranteeing you a combo. His Spiritual Pressure 1 move is called Gargantuan Spiritual Pressure, which is a counterattack move that lets him reposition himself behind an opponent. The video ends by showing his Conclusion form replaces the Awakening that other characters have in the game and explaining how it works.

Here’s the Final Getsugatensho trailer showing all of his attacks.

Kaien Shiba Is in Bleach Rebirth of Souls

The latest Bleach Rebirth of Souls character is something of a surprising one, as it turns out Kaien Shiba will be a playable fighter in the game. His appearance was teased in a “special trailer” on February 27, 2025. Now it’s confirmed he’ll be a full part of the roster and his moveset was confirmed.

Kaien Shiba used to be the lieutenant of the Gotei 13 13th Division, working alongside Rukia Kuchiki and captain Juushiro Ukitake. He uses the Zanpakuto Nejibana. He is one of the characters in the game with a special gauge unique to him. His attack power and number of hits changes based on his Current Aura State. That gauge is, in turn, filled by using the attacks Spiritual Pressure Move Sorei Suiha and Signature Move Tumbling Current. His Spiritual Pressure Move Sakanami doesn’t affect that gauge and only deals damage.

Here’s the full Kaien Shiba Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailer:

Lots of Bleach Rebirth of Souls characters ended up confirmed ahead of the Kaien Shiba reveal. Here are the trailers looking at the movesets for all of them, in case you missed one. Before his appearance, we saw announcements sharing Espada like Coyote Starrk. The official site is also keeping track of them.

Primera Espada Coyote Starrk s Bleach Rebirth of Souls

The last few Bleach Rebirth of Souls characters involved of Aizen’s Arrancar, and the newest one coming to the new game is the Primera Espada Coyote Starrk. He also references Lilynette Gingerbuck in his introduction.

Coyote is in a unique situation in Bleach. This is because he and Lilynette are a two-for-one deal. The two are typically pictured together, and his Resurreccion Awakening in the game references her and shows them coming together. He becomes a close-range melee attacker then, while the typical moveset sees him using Los Lobos at range. His Signature Move is Alma Carma, and it almost functions like reloading since it lets him recharge his Spiritual Power for other ranged attacks. Spiritual Pressure Move 1 is the ranged Cero Automatico, which varies in power based on Spiritual Power. The Two of Us Make One temporarily removes his Spiritual Power cost for moves, however it will steadily make it decrease over time.

Here’s the full Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailer for Espada Coyote Starrk.

Since Lilynette Gingerbuck is tied to him, it’s unknown if she’ll appear as a separate, additional character.

Tier Halibel Bleach Rebirth of Souls Moveset Shared

Bandai Namco shared more details about what we can expect from the Arrancar forces appearing in Bleach Rebirth of Souls, and Tier Harribel will be unleashing combo attacks with Tiburon. She’ll be a playable character and, like quite a few others in the game's roster, has a gauge unique to her that influences her attacks.

Tier is historically one of the more powerful Arrancar in the series. She’s the Tres Espada as we head into the Hueco Mundo arc of the manga and anime. She’s known for her quick combos, and her Aura Gauge rewards players for performing them. If you keep up the assault, it will fill and increase her attack. She also has an Ola Azul Spiritual Pressure ranged attack to help maintain that type of barrage of hits. She also has a closer range I’ll Show You Spiritual Pressure move that hits three times to build up a combo.

You can see the full Bleach Rebirth of Souls Tier Halibel trailer below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-rbTLO4wJs

Here are the stills Bandai Namco also released looking at what Tier can do:

As far as other Bleach Rebirth of Souls playable characters go, these are all the ones that showed up before Tier Halibel so far. Fellow Arrancar include the Espada Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, Nnoitra Gilga, Szayelaporro Grantz, and Ulquiorra Cifer.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on March 21, 2025. The Bleach anime, including Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, are streaming on on Disney+ and HuluViz Media handles the manga series outside of Japan.

Madarame is the 28th character to be revealed for the game. He’s known for being Kenpachi Zaraki’s lieutenant in the 11th Division and working alongside Yumichika Ayasegawa, though the latter hasn’t been confirmed as a playable character yet. Another Gotei 13 lieutenant is ing the Bleach Rebirth of Souls  roster of characters, and this time it is Shuhei Hisagi. He served under Kaname Tosen, who appears as his opponent in the new gameplay footage.

Hisagi is known for using the Zanpakuto Kazeshini, as well as his proficiency with Zan Ken So Ki techniques. Like some other characters in Bleach Rebirth of Souls, he has a unique gauge that influences his attacks and their strength. His Awakening state and Konpaku affect his Fear gauge. Bleach Rebirth of Souls features another immediate spoiler for people who might jump in before getting into the anime or manga, as Captain Sajin Komamura doesn’t wear his helmet when he appears in the game. The Gotei 13 member is known for wearing it at the outset of the story, with the removal of it and his face being an early spoiler in the series.

Editor’s Note: The Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailer below will show Sajin Komamura without a helmet. 556a

The latest gameplay trailer for the Bleach fighter begins as usual. It highlights Komamura’s role in the game, as well as shows his Zanpakuto Tenken. From there, it gets into some of his specific attacks. Appropriately enough, his opponent in the footage is Kaname Tosen, a man who was one of his closest friends. Komamura’s Signature Move is Activate Ten Ken. This prepares the weapon initially, then allows use of the sword. Spiritual Pressure Move 1 is Divine Punishment and uses Kokujo Tengen Myo-oh, while Spiritual Pressure Move 2 continues to use the sword to attack.

As Komamura only appears without a helmet in this Bleach Rebirth of Souls footage, it is unknown if there will be an option to show him with his old or new helmet in-game.

Here are all of the Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailers that appeared before the one before Squad 7 Captain Sajin Komamura.

Shunsui Kyoraku Is Playable in Bleach Rebirth of Souls

It’s a Monday, which means a new Bleach reveal from Bandai Namco. This time, the company shared a trailer revealing Shunsui Kyoraku will be a playable character in Bleach Rebirth of Souls and went over some of the unique elements of his moveset.

Like many of the other characters we’ve seen show up in the game, Shunsui is a Gotei 13 captain. He’s in charge of the 8th Division, and his uniform and appearance here is based on his debut. This fighter is also one of the few to dual-wield. His Zanpakuto is Katen Kyokotsu. His Signature Move Mizukiri makes good use of both by having him spin while using them, and holding down the button extends that. Bushogoma is his Spiritual Pressure Move 1 attack, which is a longer-ranged, wind-based hit. His Spiritual Pressure Move 2 is called No Need to Panic, and it is designed to help him get in close to start a combo and attack by dashing up with both of his swords.

Here’s the full trailer for the character. In addition to details about his attacks and peeks at his gameplay, we get to see more of Shigekuni Genryusai Yamamoto.

Szayelaporro Grantz Is the Latest Bleach Rebirth of Souls Arrancar

Bandai Namco revealed another Arrancar who will be playable in Bleach Rebirth of Souls, and it is Szayelaporro Grantz. He was the eighth Espada, and his Resurreccion is Fornicarás. A new trailer goes over some of his moveset.

In the case of Szayelaporro, he’ll appear in the form we recognize best from the start of the Hueco Mundo arcs in the series. He’s known for his analytical skills, which is represented in his moveset. This involves a gauge unique to him that is tied to his Spiritual Pressure Understand Level. The progress is tied to stage level and Rokureichu collection. As his Understanding grows, he’ll deal more damage, take less damage, and will need less Rokureichu to fill the gauge. His Signature Move Retrieve Rokureichu attacks while getting Rokureichu from an enemy. Spiritual Pressure Move 1 is I Need Your Corpse Intact, and it is a counterattack that plants Rokureichu. There are no references to his brother, Yylfordt Granz, in the footage.

Here’s the full Bleach Rebirth of Souls trailer showing off Szayelaporro Grantz gameplay.

Szayelaporro Grantz is the fourth Arrancar confirmed to be playable in Bleach Rebirth of Souls. We’ll also be able to use Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, Nelliel (Nel) Tu Odelschwanck, and Ulquiorra Cifer.

Bandai Namco revealed that Shinji Hirako would the roster of playable Bleach Rebirth of Souls characters at Jump Festa 2025, and now there’s a dedicated gameplay trailer showing the Visored leader’s moveset. It focuses entirely on how he’ll fight in the game.

Things begin with us seeing Shinji head into a fight. From there, it jumps right into Bleach Rebirth of Souls gameplay of him in a match against Ichigo Kurosaki. His Signature Move changes depending on whether or not Sakanade is in an enhanced state. If it isn’t, he uses Such Fun to attack or potentially counter. If it is, it becomes That’s Not It and might unleash a back attack if circumstances are right. His Spiritual Pressure 1 Move, called It’s Your Turn, comes up after that. When it is used, he summons Hiyori Sarugaki to attack. His Spiritual Pressure 2 attack is Sakanade is his Breaker technique to potentially lead into a combo. The video closes out by showing his Visored Awakening.

Shigekuni Genryusai Yamamoto Strikes in Bleach Rebirth of Souls Gameplay

We already knew both Sosuke Aizen and Shigekuni Genryusai Yamamoto would be in Bleach Rebirth of Souls from the release date trailer, but now there’s a more focused look on gameplay for the head of the Gotei 13. The video goes over some of his moveset and shows him in a fight against Ichigo Kurosaki.

In addition to being head and founder of the Gotei 13, he’s also in charge for the 1st Division. He wields the Ryujin Jakka and is known for his Zanka no Tachi Bankai and fiery attacks. The footage begins by showing how he has an Inferno Gauge that fills with certain types of attacks like his Signature Move. When maxed out, he enters a Hellfire State that  makes his attacks stronger. One such attack tied to that form is Spiritual Pressure Move 1: Shiranui, which casts ranged flames ahead of him. His Spiritual Pressure Move 2 is the same way. If Yamamoto isn’t in Hellfire State, he’ll use Taimatsu, but if he is he’ll perform the fiery Nadegiri. His Awakening Bankai comes up at the 40 second mark of the new trailer.
