Sony announced the line-up of monthly PlayStation Plus games for September 2023. The latest selection includes the popular MMO Black Desert (PS4) and the recent Saints Row reboot (PS4, PS5). Completing the trio is Generation Zero (PS4). All the new games can be claimed from September 5, 2023.

Black Desert: Traveler's Edition is the console version of the hugely popular Korean MMORPG. It puts the player in a high fantasy universe built around a conflict over the titular desert, a land that houses valuable black stones. It will be getting a spin-off game soon, with the latest Crimson Desert trailer recently making an appearance at gamescom. Black Desert has been around since 2014 on PC, although the PS4 version launched in 2019. It’s normally priced at $29.99.

Saints Row is the latest in the open world crime series, this time rebooting the whole franchise. You play as a character who builds a new gang from the ground up, with the goal of taking over the city of Santo Ileso. It originally released in 2022 and is normally available for $59.99.

Generation Zero is a first-person shooter set in a robot-infested Sweden in an alternate history 1989. It released in 2019 and is normally $29.99.

The August 2023 games are still available until September 4, 2023. They include Dreams (PS4), Death’s Door (PS4, PS5) and PGA Tour 2K23 (PS4, PS5).

The next round of PlayStation Plus game will be available from September 5, 2023.

Fairly recently, Black Desert added a new martial arts-based class, the Striker, to the game. Now the class has received its Awakening weapon thanks to a new update. In Black Desert, Awakenings are weapons that are used for endgame content. The weapons unlock entirely new skillsets for each of the game’s classes and help to better complement their weaknesses.

Black Desert is available for PC and is set to release for Xbox One and Xbox One X sometime in early 2018. The game is also scheduled for a PlayStation 4 release, though any more details are not currently known.

Pearl Abyss announced during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference that their popular MMORPG title, Black Desert, is headed to Xbox One as a console launch exclusive.

Developer Pearl Abyss is working on plenty of new content and improvements for their MMORPG Black Desert Online and we got a peek at its new hand-to-hand fighter class called “Striker.”

No further information was shared about the new Striker class, but it is expected to bring its martial arts moves to Korean servers sometime in the near future. Pearl Abyss also has plans to bring more classes, but no further info was shared on that either.

As far as other updates go, Black Desert Online is getting enhanced graphics and audio sometime this year. It’s also getting a new airship to fly its open world, a new sea monster boss, new battlefield, and more from the Kamyslvia expansion that makes its debut in South Korea later this summer.

Black Desert Online developer Pearl Abyss announced to day that they’ve signed a formal agreement of partnership for bilateral technical cooperation with Bravely Default makers Silicon Studio.

We mostly know Silicon Studio these days as the developers behind Bravely Default, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Muramasa, but they’re actually a technology company in charge of producing various 3D computer graphics products and middleware software, such as the post-processing visual effects library, YEBIS, which has been used in games such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls III.

“Pearl Abyss is a very competent company. With their help, we will be able to bring out the full potential of YEBIS and help foster a new generation of technology development,” says Masaki Kawase, Lead Software Engineer at Silicon Studio.

With Pearl Abyss having signed the MOU with Japan’s Silicon Studio, the two organizations will work together on graphic technology research and engine department, which should prove beneficial for Black Desert Online as they move forward.

“Black Desert Online already boasts outstanding graphics, but with the cooperation of Silicon Studio, we will be able to elevate the game’s visuals to an even greater degree of fidelity,” says Pearl Abyss CEO Kyoungin Jung.

Part one of Black Desert Online’s Valenica expansion will release on June 1, taking players to an expansive desert region of the game’s world, exposing them to the elements and giving them access to new quests and mounts.

This expansion takes players to the sandy dunes of Black Desert. Out here, players will have to manage their health against the harsh elements, staying hydrated in the heat or warm in the evening’s cold. They will also have to watch out for sandstorms, hiding in a tent to avoid damage. Players may find themselves out there for a while, too, as minimaps will be unavailable out in the desert.

Horses and wagons don’t work very well out in the sands, which is why the developers have added a camel mount. While less useful in the desert, the elephant mount has also been added into the game, which will help more in sieges.

Along with the new area, the expansion adds new weapons, armor, and accessories, and ups the enhancement system cap, allowing players to improve their gear up to +20. There are also more crafting recipes available as well.

On June 15, a two week trail period will also begin for Node and Siege Warfare. This will let players try out the new PvP mechanics for the game, entering grand-scale battles “never before seen in any MMORPG!”

The Musa and Maehwa classes are coming to Black Desert on April 20, each bringing their own unique playstyle to the game.

Musa’s high-speed sword slashes turn him into a dervish in the field, lashing out with AoE attacks while staying highly mobile. He can deal a lot of damage to many enemies using his abilities, but his character is fragile, requiring the player put his mobility skills to good use.

Maehwa, the female counterpart to Musa, specializes in one-on-one combat, tying up her opponent for an extended time. She also has an array of attacks that can knock down opponents, giving her or other players an opportunity for close-up attacks. She has the same high speed and low health as the Musa, though, so players will have to use her with care.

Mediah, a free expansion for players of Black Desert Online adds new lands, huge bosses that will take hundreds players to take down, 40v40 skirmishes, and over one thousand quests to the game.

The world size has been increased by 30% for the expansion, adding in some busy ports, farmsteads, and much more dangerous places for players to explore. In addition to these new lands, the developers have added the Crimson Battlefield, a 40v40 instanced skirmish where players can queue in groups of five or solo.

Various guild missions that lead to powerful bosses that drop strong new weapons have been added as well, along with over one thousand quests. On top of new armor and weapons, previously-gained equipment can now also be enchanted to higher levels, and craftable Alchemy Stones will also help increase the attack, defense, and life bonuses of that equipment.

Mediah is available for free for Black Desert Online players now.

Daum Games has ed the opening cinematic for its MMORPG Black Desert. Turns out that it’s narrated by Tay Zonday, who is better known as the YouTuber with the deep voice, famous for singing “Chocolate Rain.”

The cinematic itself should give you some insight into “the fate of the Central City as the legendary and dangerous Elision stone is recovered.”

Of course, the timing of this cinematic’s arrival is significant too, as Black Desert’s second closed beta rolls out in the west from February 18th to February 22nd.

The second closed beta includes special in-game events including the Bait Master Tour, in which you are tasked with catching a rare Beltfish to earn a special title. There’s also an all-new triathlon challenge to take on.

Any rewards you earn will be tied to your so you can take them into the game’s full launch on March 3rd.

The next Black Desert class to get its Awakening weapon in the Korean version of the MMORPG is to be the Tamer class (aka the Beast Master class).

Developer Pearl Abyss has released a new trailer of the Tamer class using her Awakening weapon, the Sky Rod, as you can watch above (thanks Steparu). It’s a close range weapon that allows for a flurry of attacks.

If you stick to the end of the trailer there seems to also be a teaser for the Valkyrie class – perhaps an incoming update.

Daum Games Europe opened up name reservations for Black Desert on February 9th to all those who pre-ordered the game. You can reserve your name on this dedicated page.

If you haven’t already pre-ordered one of Black Desert’s three packages (outlined here) then you have until February 26th to do so – pre-orders are taken here.

Daum Games also sent out a reminder that players who pre-order the Explorer’s or Conqueror’s package will get automatic entry to Black Desert’s second closed beta test from February 18th to February 22nd. Anyone else can to partake in the beta on this page.

Since the first closed beta test back in December, Daum Games has made a number of changes to Black Desert, including the following that will be experienced in the second closed beta test:

• Revamped Karma system, which balances player kills and death penalties
• Addition of voiceovers
• French and German localization
• Addition of tutorial videos
• Adjustments to experience gain
• Maximum player level of 55
• Improved interface

There will also be a number of events that will run throughout the beta period that are yet to be outlined. Black Desert launches soon after the second closed beta test on March 3rd.

Daum Games Europe has put up a poll for people interested in playing Black Desert in North America and Europe to vote on what server configuration they think the game should have.

The options in the poll are: Multiple servers per region (with 1 to 5 or 5 to 10 channels per server), a Mega-Server for each region, or Dynamic Servers.

Multiple servers are standard for most MMORPGs, splitting the entire player base of a region across many different servers. Mega-Servers are known, too, which mean having each region’s entire base inside a single server.

Dynamic Servers, on the other hand, require some explanation, and Daum Games has provided one.

“In regards to Dynamic Channels, this is a concept to allow for additional channels that are turned on and off automatically as needed to facilitate the players online. As an example let's say that there are 5 channels; each channel is at 80% capacity.  When this happens an additional channel is activated, and once the total population online falls below the threshold the additional channels are closed and players still in it/them are relocated to a remaining channel (along with any workers in the channel with them).  Dynamic channels is not a feature available in any region currently and is just a concept, hence why it has a stand alone poll.”

Daum Games Europe has announced that Black Desert’s second closed beta in the west starts on February 18th. Details on how long it will last and the changes since the first test are yet to come.

If you have an Explorer’s or Conqueror’s Package then you’ll automatically have access. Otherwise, s will begin in early February.

But that’s not all. Daum Games has also released a standalone version of Black Desert’s detailed character creator. You can it for free.

It lets you customize the hair, face, and body of any one of the game’s eight classes. Accompanying it is a character creator new trailer that you can watch above.
