Bayonetta January 2025 calendar illustration from 15th anniversary webpage

PlatinumGames has opened a new webpage on its official site to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Bayonetta. The new page is available in both Japanese and English.

Even though Sega first released Bayonetta for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan in late October 2009, PlatinumGames opted to start celebrating the game's 15th anniversary in January 2025 to coincide with its global releases. Sega subsequently released Bayonetta on the same platforms in North America on January 5, 2010, in Australia on January 7, 2010, and in Europe on January 8, 2010.

The company that developed the Bayonetta video game series will use the new webpage to share new smartphone wallpapers with an optional calendar every month. The January 2025 wallpaper features Bayonetta and Jeanne with Japanese attires to symbolize the New Year festival season.

On the same webpage, PlatinumGames also shared the new Bayonetta music box, which Wayo Records will release in Q1 2025 for €220.00. The latter will design the music box after Bayonetta's Super Mirror, and it will play Masami Ueda's "Theme of Bayonetta - Mysterious Destiny" for 30 seconds with 10 loops.

The first Bayonetta is available on not only the PS3, Xbox 360, and Switch, but also PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC worldwide.

bayonetta super groupies re-release

Super Groupies has announced a re-run of all of its Bayonetta collaboration items. They’re only available while supplies last, so if you want them, you should act fast before they sell out.

For reference, Super Groupies does offer international shipping. So you don’t have to use a proxy service to purchase from them. On another note, though there are eight items in total in the Super Groupies’s Bayonetta crossover, only two of them are available for purchase.

The two items are a Bayonetta backpack and a wallet. The backpack costs 26,400 JPY ($176.75), and the wallet costs 17,600 JPY ($117.85). An Umbra Witch’s magic circle appears as motifs around it. You can see it on the buckle, helping to keep the backpack closed, for example.

There are also letters from the Demonic Alphabet on the belt-like pieces of fabric. As a whole, both items have a black-and-red color scheme. This is due to Bayonetta herself wearing all black with red accent colors.

The Bayonetta backpack and wallet are readily available from Super Groupies while supplies last. These items originally appeared in January 2023. The previous wave of Bayonetta goods unavailable as part of this re-release included a necklace, a jacket, and a watch.

SuperGroupies New Bayonetta Merchandise Involves a Backpack

Once again, SuperGroupies is taking orders for Bayonetta merchandise, with this second run adding a backpack and long wallet to the collection. Both items are expected to appear in “late” August 2023. The wallet is the cheaper of the two items at $160. The backpack is $240. All items are based on Bayonetta's appearance in the original game.

First, the Bayonetta long wallet is black and features a red ribbon-like stripe with her name in the Infernal Alphabet. It also has a golden chain with a lipstick bullet charm attached. The inscription “Balder and Rosa: With Love Until the End of Time” is on that. The wallet has her “Let’s Dance, Boys!” quote on it with an embossed kiss. The lining features things like the Infernal Alphabet and Beast Within transformations. It is made of fake leather and is over seven and a half inches long.

The Bayonetta backpack is also black and made of fake leather. It has the same sort of lining as the wallet. There are Umbra Witches insignias, a rose like the one on her outfit, and again her name is in the Infernal Alphabet on the red straps. It is almost 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide, and the main pocket can hold items that are about 9.8 inches by 13.9 inches.

As a reminder, this isn't the first time Supergroupies offered Bayonetta merchandise. This is basically its second batch. The first wave included a $130 necklace, a $280 jacket, and a $320 watch.

Pre-orders for the SuperGroupies new Bayonetta merchandise are open until February 12, 2023. Bayonetta 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch. The next game in the series will be Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, which will come to the Switch on March 17, 2023.

Bayonetta Last Cloudia

A Bayonetta crossover will appear in Last Cloudia on January 26, 2023. However, more information as to what characters will appear, along with how players can obtain them, will appear in the future. Leading up to the crossover, the official Last Cloudia Twitter shared an image. The crossover promotional features the logos of the Bayonetta series and Last Cloudia set against a moon.

Last Cloudia has seen a plethora of collaborations appear in the mobile game. This has ranged from Devil May Cry, NieR: Automata, and a Tales of series collaboration. Each of these events featured several crossover characters that could be obtained during their event period. For example, during the Devil May Cry crossover, Nero, Dante, and V were available to obtain. One of these characters was distributed through event participation. More information as to what character could potentially be available to get through event participation will be revealed once the event is closer at hand.

This wouldn't be the first time Bayonetta has appeared in another game as part of a crossover. Specifically, Bayonetta and Jeanne appeared in Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation. Both Bayonetta and Jeanne were available to obtain through the event, and the subsequent re-run that appeared.

Last Cloudia is available for Android and iOS devices. The Bayonetta crossover event will begin on January 26, 2023.

Bayonetta Voice Actress Offers More Details About Bayonetta 3 Offer

More details about the Bayonetta 3 voice acting situation have come to light, with former Bayonetta voice actress Hellena Taylor sharing more details about PlatinumGames’ offer via Twitter. In the newest update, she noted the initial offer to return as the character was $10,000. Then, after that, the amount increased to $15,000. She then said she declined following that offer, which led to a flat $4,000 offer to “voice some lines.”

In her initial video message, Taylor claimed the developer offered her a flat $4,000 to play the character. That same announcement also included a call to boycott Bayonetta 3. A follow-up Bloomberg report from Jason Schreier claimed the offer to return as the voice actress for Bayonetta was $15,000, which now seems to be confirmed by Taylor.

Here is Taylor's latest series of tweets about the topic:

Bayonetta 3 will come to the Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022, with Jennifer Hale as the voice actress for Bayonetta. Previously, Hale voiced characters in Mass Effect, Overwatch, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.

Bayonetta 3 limited edition

Bayonetta 3 is coming in late October 2022, finally ending the years-long wait endured by fans of the Umbra Witch. Nintendo's set to take advantage, of course, by offering a Bayonetta 3 limited edition package filled with goodies. Formally known as the "Trinity Masquerade Edition" of the game, the Bayonetta 3 limited edition package will be sold at select retailers and the My Nintendo Store.

Check out a preview of the pack below.

https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1547270745780273153

The Bayonetta 3 Trinity Masquerade Edition comes with the game in a standard-size Switch cartridge case. It also includes a 200-page art book and three special game case art inserts. Each art insert corresponds to one of the Bayonetta series titles, and the three combine to form a single panoramic work. A large box decorated with the Bayonetta 3 box art holds the goods.

You might be wondering why Nintendo would include box art for Bayonetta 1 in the package when the Switch version of Bayonetta was a digital-only release. Wonder no more, for Nintendo has also confirmed that there will be a separate physical release of Bayonetta on September 30, 2022.

Previously, the Switch port of the first Bayonetta game was -only. Copies were included as codes with certain physical editions of Bayonetta 2 on Switch or sold via the Nintendo eShop. With a physical edition of the trilogy available, players can opt to use the custom art inserts on all three copies if they choose.

Bayonetta 3 and its limited edition go on sale on October 28, 2022. The physical release of Bayonetta is set for September 30, 2022. Bayonetta 2 is available physically and digitally on Switch.

Bayonetta 3 Release Date

The long wait is over: The witch is back. Nintendo and PlatinumGames formally confirmed the release date of Bayonetta 3. That date is October 28, 2022, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Previously, the game was confirmed only for a 2022 release window.

To celebrate, PlatinumGames released a lengthy new trailer for the game. Check it out below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6a5-8_kt3E

The Bayonetta 3 release date trailer shows off known characters like Bayonetta, Jeanne, Luka, and Rodin. The biggest new addition is Viola, an apprentice witch. Viola wears a purple leather jacket accessorized with pouches, and jeans. With multicolored hair in a pixie cut, she wields a long katana against her enemies. Her slashes seem to be able to place symbols on the ground that can summon a monstrous cat.

Bayonetta herself will have some new tricks to deploy upon the Bayonetta 3 release date. Besides her guns and hair-powered special moves, Bayonetta is able to go into Demon Masquerade, changing her form and summoning giant monsters.

On its release Bayonetta 3 will also have an additional mode for shy players. PlatinumGames added the optional, tongue-in-cheek "Naive Angel Mode" to the final release. This mode subtly alters outfits and character designs to be slightly more covered-up, cutting down on visible nudity in the game. The mode should make Bayonetta 3 easier to play in public or around polite company.

Check Naive Angel mode in action below.

Bayonetta 3 is in development and will release on the Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022. Bayonetta 2 is also available on the Switch. The original Bayonetta is available on Switch, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Bayonetta English Voice Actor

Hellena Taylor, the English voice actor behind the titular protagonist of the Bayonetta series, has hinted at a possible departure from the role. When asked for further clarification, Taylor stated that she is unable to provide any details due to contractual obligations.

The news comes from Twitter, where the actress expressed gratitude towards fans of the Bayonetta franchise. However, when one stated that they "[couldn't] imagine Bayonetta without [Taylor's] amazing voice" the actress responded, "Well you might have to."

Furthermore, in response to several s expressing excitement over her possible involvement in the Bayonetta 3, the actress stated that she was "bound by confidentiality clause" and was "not at liberty to say" further details.

Since the release of Bayonetta in 2009, Taylor has voiced the character in all of its mainline titles as well appearances in other games like Super Smash Bros. and PlatinumGames' Anarchy Reigns. She also voiced the character in the English dub of the Bayonetta: Bloody Fate animated film released in 2014.

In contrast to this, Nintendo stated in June 2021 that the development of Bayonetta 3 has been "progressing well." Originally announced back in 2017, PlatinumGames and Nintendo have since offered little in of updates. PlatinumGames founder Hideki Kamiya also mentioned in early 2021 that he hoped to give fans further information within the year.

Bayonetta 3 is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.

  • Kamiya: "I there was a great big cheer at the development studio when we tested out Bayonetta summoning demons and losing her clothes."
  • Inaba: "Not in a dirty way. It was a joyous cheer to celebrate that our ideas all fit together well."

  • Kamiya: "I hope Viewtiful Joe will also get some focus. That was the first game I included slow motion in. We added Dante on the PS2 version."

  • Kamiya: "Bayonetta 3's development is progressing smoothly. Actually, there's a lot of info hidden in the teaser announcement in 2017."

bayonetta and vanquish 10th anniversary playtest feature

“Cult Classic” isn’t so much a genre or a label with a concrete definition anymore. The media landscape has come a long way since “so bad it’s good” or “guilty pleasure.” Sincerity is at an all-time high, and entire studios have built their brands atop a foundation of beloved trash. Hausu is in the Criterion Collection, for chrissakes. But while “cult” fanbases can underground film releases, “cult classic” in video games usually means trawling auction listings for out of print discs. Digital stores have brought some exceptions, but retail depends far too much on new releases and blockbusters. But two games in particular not only put a rising developer on the map, but reappeared several times over a decade despite their relative obscurity: Bayonetta and Vanquish.

PlatinumGames and Sega are celebrating the tenth anniversary of both Bayonetta and Vanquish. They’re doing so with a celebratory PlayStation 4 release, the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. In a vacuum this isn’t a spectacular release; functionally it makes these games playable on PS4 natively, but doesn’t come with anything new. There are special themes you get for buying digitally, but the games come as separate, no-frills s. However, there is a retail version, which includes both games on the disc and a steelbook case with some nice, new cover art celebrating both games.

When you look at retail video game re-releases, they’re usually institutions. Remasters are popular, ensuring series like Resident Evil or Uncharted are playable on current hardware. Usually these projects come to promote a new release (Devil May Cry), or to get content on newer platforms in-between franchise entries (Assassin’s Creed), or to keep classic games alive and accessible (Mega Man). But the common thread in these releases is, if they’re retail, they’re projects that have plenty of renown and past success, guaranteeing interest and sales. There are exceptions, but those are usually limited or super niche like the GameStop-exclusive Metal Wolf Chaos XD or Limited Run’s Night Trap.

In my mind there are two key points that make this Bayonetta and Vanquish package special. One, this is a full retail product. It isn’t a specialty preorder or limited print run sort of deal. You can just walk into a store and buy it. Two, Bayonetta and especially Vanquish are not the usual sort of games to get a release like this. And yet, both games have managed to survive well beyond expectations. PlatinumGames is pretty big now for sure, but at the time these two dropped, the company was barely figuring itself out after forming from the remnants of Capcom’s Clover Studio.

Bayonetta was a critical darling, but as a project ended up being a huge risk that could have jeopardized PlatinumGames as a company. It sold under PlatinumGames’ own expectations, and that’s after its first two titles (Mad World and Infinite Space) had already hampered the budding dev’s relationship with Sega. Vanquish was a more modest project that wasn’t totally sunk by its okay sales, but it was also more of a niche even with critics. These are not the kinds of games to typically get the royal treatment, yet here we are.

Both games have been re-released on PC, Bayonetta is part of the Nintendo family, and they were both part of Microsoft’s limited Xbox One backwards compatibility initiative. Now, here’s a full retail release of both for the PS4, with Sega, a company that once struggled with localizing its smaller Japanese games, doing a fan-oriented release akin to a “cult classic” home video release.

Only a few years ago, Sega nearly cancelled Bayonetta 2. Now, the original is re-released, at retail, with official messaging like “We know how special Bayonetta and Vanquish are to fans, and they’re an important part of Sega’s history as well, so we wanted to go big for their 10th anniversary.” No mention of sales or success here, but rather historical language. To me, this shows games have started to reach a milestone. The Cult Classic can be a viable presence, not just for fans and the secondary market, but for publishers and developers too.

Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle is headed to the PS4 on February 18, 2020.

Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle is headed to the PS4 on February 18, 2020.

bayonetta and vanquish 10th anniversary

The Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle features an original cover that brings the two series together. This meant a slipcover and Launch Edition Steelbook case that would blend the two leads together so Bayonetta and Sam Gideon share the spotlight. To help people better understand how this vision was realized, a new video from Sega looks at how Illustrator Dan Dussault put together the Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary key art with input from Weapons Van Art Director Scott Spatola and Production Manager Jason Rau.

In the very opening, Spatola says, “We wanted the two characters to look like they were meant to go together, and we wanted it to kind of look like a choreographed scene.” A goal was to show how the two could connect and play off of each other in their respective scenes and on the cover.

Making sure the details were accurate was another critical part, with PlatinumGames offering on preliminary sketches. One anecdote noted that in an early sketch, PlatinumGames let Dussault know one charm actually belonged on Bayonetta's left gun, rather than her right one. This sort of attention also led the trio to catch details they weren't even aware of, like the embossed symbol that appears on the soles of Bayonetta’s shoes.

Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 18, 2020. Bayonetta is also available on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Vanquish is also available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
