Nintendo talked a bit about the Switch 2 update options for existing Switch games after it announced the system, and now it shared more detailed information about the free patches for games like ARMS and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. All of the initially announced ones will be available on June 5, 2025, the same day the new console debuts. 

The extent of the upgrades varies for each title. In the case of ARMS, the Switch 2 free update will be a bit more extensive. Nintendo noted there will be graphical optimizations and an improved frame rate. It also noted that if the system is docked with a ed TV, it will also display in HDR. 

However, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch 2 free updates are a little more subdued. Both versions of the game will visually look better. Again, the frame rates will be improved.

In some cases, we’ll see the free updates add GameShare for the Switch 2. Big Brain Academy: Brain vs Brain will feature online and local GameChat, and four people could play its Party Mode. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will let up to two people play every course via GameChat locally or online, in addition to new visual upgrades and HDR . Four people can play Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics together, with GameChat local and online sharing ed. Both Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will look better and have HDR , GameShare multiplayer is included as well as via GameChat, with two being able to work together in the former and four in the latter.

Dr-Richie-74 on Reddit discovered that ARMS comic writer Ian Flynn listed on his official website that the planned Dark Horse series about the game is canceled. In the Dark Horse Portfolio section, the ARMS comic is listed, but noted as a "planned, but unfortunately canceled" project. [Thanks, Reddit!]

Dark Horse and Flynn both announced the comic back in 2018. The Free Comic Book Day May 2018 preview issue offered a glimpse at the potential direction of the adaptation. The 12-page comic primarily focused on the “new” Spring Man’s introduction. (He’s the version of the fighter that appears in the ARMS game.) It ends with him challenging commissioner Max Brass, then Brass looking at the competitors for the next Grand Prix.

The cliffhanger noted that ARMS Volume 1: Contenders would continue the story. While the cover said a graphic novel would launch in Fall 2018, Flynn’s May 2018 tweet noted it would appear in 2019.

ARMS itself is available for the Nintendo Switch worldwide. While there haven’t been any recent updates since its last ARMS Party Crash Bash in 2019 and 2020 North American Online Open, Min Min appeared in as a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character.

The Super Smash Bros Ultimate Min Min fighter has been revealed via the YouTube video set in Director Masahiro Sakurai's home. The ARMS heroine will be ing the cast. This marks the second time the fighter has “won” a competition. This is because she also was the one to win a series of ARMS Party Crash Bash events held in-game when it was most popular.

Her reveal began with a cartoon showing off all of the ARMS characters. However, it began in Min Min’s family’s restaurant, where F-Zero’s Captain Falcon and Kirby were eating ramen and she was on the side waiting on them. As other characters fought it out for the invite, with it coming down to Kid Cobra and Twintelle, Min Min dashed in, stole the invite for herself, and beat them both. Unfortunately, this final match-up is not also a reference to the Party Crash Bash events, as the second-place winner was Ninjara. (Twintelle and Mechanica made it to the semifinals.)

Also, because it is important, here is what Kirby looks like if he inhales and absorbs Min Min’s abilities.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch. So is ARMS. The Super Smash Bros Ultimate Min Min release date is June 29, 2020.

The next Super Smash Bros Ultimate character is about to be revealed. After quite a bit of teasing and wondering if the next character would be revealed in June 2020, we know that at 7am PT/10am ET/4pm CET, the next candidate will show up. We also know that this will be the first SSBU ARMS character to the roster as a playable character.

You can watch the reveal below. Keep in mind that it will be about 30 minutes long. Like with past reveals, Director Masahiro Sakurai will be discussing the new fighter and going over their various nuances. This time, as pointed out by Nintendo via Twitter, the entire presentation was filmed at Sakurai’s home. (This is due to the current state of affairs and pandemic, naturally.)

As a reminder, the finalARMS Party Crash Bash winner was Min Min. However, if Nintendo is going to avoid making it a SSBU ARMS character already in the game as a Spirit, then that rules out Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Twintelle, and Ninjara. In addition, Spring Man already appears in the game as an Assist Trophy.

Both ARMS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are available for the Nintendo Switch.

The time has come. Back in March 2020, Nintendo announced that it would be bringing a Super Smash Bros Ultimate ARMS competitor into the ring as the next fighter. A reveal was set for June 2020, and the company is keeping that promise. On June 22, 2020 at 7am PT/10am ET/4pm CET, the new fighter will be revealed.

As is customary with these events, this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ARMS presentation will be just over 30 minutes long and feature Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s director, talking about the new fighter and showing them off. As a reminder, due to the current state of affairs and the world, Sakurai has been watching over things remotely. There was even talk of a delay for this character, due to the pandemic. 

The identity of the Super Smash Bros Ultimate ARMS fighter will be revealed there. No hints have been provided. However, Min Min was the winner of the ARMS Party Crash Bash and appeared in the second anniversary artwork. However, Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are considered mascot characters for the fighting game. At the moment, Spirits based on Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Twintelle, and Ninjara are all in the game.

Nintendo also went out of its way to note that only the ARMS character will be revealed.

Dust off your copy of ARMS. Nintendo has announced a new competition people can for, and they don’t have to leave their homes to take part. The ARMS North American Online Open will be held on April 4, 2020 at 10am PT/1pm ET. Registration is now open at Battlefy.

It isn’t too difficult to get into the ARMS North American Online Open. People need a copy of ARMS and to be Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, of course. They also need to live in Canada, Mexico, or the United States and meet the age requirements, which are over 13 in Canada and the US and over 18 in Mexico. Once people set up a Battlefy and , they’ll have a chance to win the Gold Points.

There will be eight ARMS North American Online Open winners in total. Each one will receive 2,500 Gold Points. These could be spent at My Nintendo to get 3DS games or discounts on eShop titles. Or, someone could use them as eShop credit to, say, get a $25 game for their Nintendo Switch.

ARMS is available for the Nintendo Switch. It’s the fighter where each competitor has extendible arms that can fly across the arena with their incredible reach. A free demo is available. One of its last major events was a final ARMS Party Crash Bash, during which Min Min was crowned the winning character.

We reported that Min Min was the winner of the final Party Crash Bash event in ARMS earlier this month, and the ARMS team released a new piece of artwork to commemorate this, as well as celebrate the game’s 2nd anniversary.   ARMS was released on June 16, 2017, and has since sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the top-selling games on the system. Since its release, it has gotten several new playable characters, arenas, and ARMS. Meanwhile, the Party Crash Bash events began in December 2017, and have been running up to this month.   It seems that this marks the end of regular ARMS content on the Nintendo Switch, as Nintendo noted in the tweet, “Thank you to all for ing ARMS on #NintendoSwitch!”   ARMS is available for the Nintendo Switch.

  The ARMS Party Crash Bash events are over. An ultimate “winner” has been crowned. Min Min beat Ninjara in the Martial Arts Mash-Up 53% to 47%. This means, as far as Party Crash Bashes go, Min Min is the “favorite” ARMS fighter.   Nintendo noted that the last ARMS Party Crash Bash began at 2am PT on June 14, 2019 and ended at 2am PT on June 17, 2019. Prior to this event, both Min Min and Ninjara had each won five of these events. However, in a fun twist, Ninjara actually won their first match up against one another. From December 8-11, 2017, the original Martial Arts Mash-Up ran and pitted the two against one another. During that one, Ninjara won 58% to 42%.   During ARMS’ run, a Party Crash Bash was an event where for three days, people would not be able to take part in normal Party Match fights and would instead be forced to use one of the two designated characters. You would get points for participating and a winner would be “crowned” based on usage and points. The very first one was held November 22-24, 2017 and had Spring Man face Ribbon Girl.   ARMS is available for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo released its financial results briefing of the second quarter for fiscal year ending March 2019 with talk from president Shuntaro Furukawa about plans for encouraging long-term play.  

At the financial results briefing in April, then-president Kimishima noted how important it was for Nintendo Switch in its second year to continue to provide consumers who purchased the hardware with reasons to stay interested in playing on the system. Here, let me introduce several initiatives that the company has undertaken to this end.  

One initiative involves the continual updating and delivery of add-on content for games. For example, titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 that were released last year have gotten more updates since April of this year with additions to game elements. And titles like Kirby Star Allies and Mario Tennis Aces that were just released this year have been updated for free

Alongside these additions of content, we have held recurring, limited-time in-game online events for individual titles. For titles like the ones shown here, the final rankings from the events are shown on the official website.

The Splatoon 2 World Championship and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate exhibition matches held in June of this year at E3 are just two examples of the variety of nononline events we have also been holding. Game contests are a place where gamers can put their practiced skills to the test, but the venues also are prepared as fun experiences that can draw crowds of spectators. We view these events as places where crowds of people can gather to feel the energy of our game communities. The events are streamed live over the internet, so people at home can also enjoy the thrills of exciting matches.

We are planning all kinds of events going forward. In the Japanese market, Nintendo Live 2018 is set to take place in November, and will feature tournaments for Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis Aces, and ARMS, as well as a tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ahead of its release. And we’re not just planning competitions: we’re also planning events such as demos for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, as part of our wholehearted effort to prepare events that a wide range of consumers can enjoy.

ARMS is getting its next update tomorrow, four months after the last update. Version 5.4 was revealed today on Twitter, but the contents of the update has not been revealed.   However, Biff teases that a new character may be coming to the game. He says that Dr. Coyle has been busy inside the ARMS Lab recently, while ing by the ARMS Lab one day, he heard her speaking as if she was talking to somebody inside the room.   Keep in mind that Nintendo Switch Online is also set to start this week, so one of the elements added in this update is likely to involve Nintendo’s new service as well.   Check out Biff’s Tweet below:
