Dokibird announced she is holding a Dokibird x Oversight Esports Apex Legends Custom tournament that features 60 Vtubers and other notable players. It will be held at 6pm PT/9pm ET on November 30, 2024. An over two-hour stream covered many of the details.

Dokibird noted this is.inspired by the Apex ALGS Championship. She is contributing $30,000 for the prize pot, Gamersupps will donate the three first place medals and items for all participants, as well as second place prizes. She also confirmed the tournament involves “4 fun game modes and 2 regular matches.” 

Here are the confirmed modes and matches, as well as the locations for them. In each case, there is a $5,000 prize and medals for the first place winners in each match.

This isn’t the only major event run by Dokibird in 2024. Previously, she held WrestleTuber 2024 back in 2024. Like the Dokibird x Oversight Apex Custom tournament, it featured both indie Vtubers and ones from companies like Hololive and VShojo. The winner of the event was Unnamed.

In an interview with Famitsu, Respawn’s David Duong and Square Enix’s Yuma Watanabe gave some behind-the-scenes details about the current FFVII event in Apex Legends and talked about included items and things like Turks skins that didn't make it in. The event will last until January 31, 2024. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

In the interview, Duong noted that there are many people working on Apex who were huge fans of FFVII growing up, and so they decided to approach Square Enix for the collaboration. On Square Enix’s side, the team were also huge Apex Legends fans, so they were surprised and delighted at the suggestion. Duong also mentioned that FFVII Rebirth’s aesthetic, characters, and vast library of skills were perfect fits for the Apex world, which is why they chose to use that game for the collaboration.

In the FFVII crossover event in Apex Legends, you can get skins that look like Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and other party . However, Watanabe stated that in the original discussions, the skins would look like SOLDIERs, Shinra soldiers, and Turks instead. As a whole though, the Apex Legends team lead development on the collaboration event and very few staff from Square Enix were involved. This was to prevent any information about Rebirth from leaking out.

They mentioned lot of the work went into how the Buster Sword works. The teams spent a lot of time deg the sound, animations, and appearance to let players indulge in the fantasy of swinging it around. However, the Buster Sword in Apex Legends is shorter than the real thing. This is because the actual size would make it difficult for players to see, and the long reach would make it unsuitable for an FPS game.

FFVII Rebirth will come out for the PS5 on February 29, 2024. Apex Legends is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

EA and Respawn released a collection of Apex Legends FFVII Vtuber assets for people to use. They’re available on the official site alongside past Gaiden and Revenant ones.

The file is about a 47mb . It consists of three sorts of materials. One is Nessie Moogle mascot that has idle, cheer, dance, and sleep animations. It also has Twitch integration toggles that react to follows, raids, and subs. There are two sorts of overlays, with one featuring Aerith’s yellow flowers and the other showing materia from the series. Finally, there is a Vtuber Wattson Moogle Blanket “outfit” based on the new skin for the character in Apex Legends. That makes it look like the person is wearing the character’s new hat and coat.

Respawn also shared a brief FFVII Apex Legends Vtuber assets video clip showing the Wattson Moogle Blanket in action. It showed the Vtuber Vienna the Cosmic Dragon using it. It highlights the various patches that reference characters like the Chocobo, Cait Sith, and Cactaur.

Apex Legends is  available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Its FFVII Rebirth event is available now. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.

Apex Legends is getting a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover event, and a new gameplay trailer shows how costume skins, Materia, and the Buster Sword will look in the game. This also means we get a better idea of how things will work and be acquired when things begin on January 9, 2024.

The trailer begins with a look at the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, before some characters in the new skins drop in. It then shows how players can approach Hop-Ups to get different Materia. Purple Materia is shown off first in the gameplay footage, followed by Blue Materia and Red Materia. 

After that, it shows the Buster Sword R2R5. This is a Mythic cosmetic for all characters that will apparently be a part of the Event packs people can buy. It, like the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Apex Legends costume skins, was mentioned as being available via Apex Coins in the official press release. 

As for those costumes, here are the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth skins shown in the Apex Legends trailer.

Nijisanji and Hololive Vtubers Selen Tatsuki and Regis Altare announced they will be part of Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am, an Apex Legends charity tournament running December 14-15, 2023. This charity event is designed to (Red) and raise money for AIDS research. 

How this charity tournament works is that each team has a professionalplayer, with 40 teams total appearing. Evan Verhulst, who is part of TSM is the Apex Legends pro on Team Verhulst playing alongside the two Vtubers. They are one of the 40 teams that will be competing to be the last one standing. In addition to the main stream page, Selen confirmed she will be streaming from her perspective on YouTube. Altare didn’t mention if he will as well.

The donation page for the event is now live on Tiltify, and people can specifically the Verhulst, Selen, and Altare team on their page at the site. The team’s goal is listed as $2,000. The goal for it is $5,000. 

Selen Tatsuki and Regis Altare have played Apex Legends together multiple times. The two were on Axel Syrios’ team during V-Saikyo 2023. Selen also recently organized the December 2023 HoloNiji Apex Custom Apex Legends tournament, which featured Hololive and Nijisanji Vtubers playing together. 

The Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am tournament will run December 14-15, 2023, and Apex Legends is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices.

During TGA 2023, it was announced that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will appear in Apex Legends as part of an collaboration. It’ll start from January 9, 2024.

This announcement came at the end of the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer that Square Enix showed. For the collaboration, we can see characters wielding iconic weapons from FFVII such as Cloud’s Buster Sword. There is also a key visual for the Apex Legends collaboration, which Nomura drew.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an RPG that will serve as a sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. New characters that made an appearance in the new trailer include Vincent and Cid. As a reminder, you can watch the new trailer here:

While we know the start date, we don't know yet what the collaboration will entail. Previous crossovers featured new skins for characters. It's likely that the Buster Sword in the art will also be a skin for a weapon.

During Nijisanji Vtuber Selen Tatsuki’s 2023 birthday stream, she announced the HoloNiji Apex Custom Apex Legends tournament that will feature both Nijisanji and Hololive Vtubers. More details about it will come on December 3, 2023.

Selen noted that Team Snake Bite (TSB), which consists of her and Holostars Vtubers Regis Altare and Axel Syrios, “was cooking something.” That turned into this Apex Legends tournament. As a reminder, Syrios was invited to participate in V-Saikyo in April 2023 as the only English branch leader, and he added the other two to his team. Selen said this new Apex Legends tournament, which is officially ed by EA, has “been in the works for a very long time.” 

This HoloNiji Apex Custom event was originally going to be a chill, custom tournament. During initial planning, Selen said it only involved people from Nijisanji English and Holostars. Now it will include people from the EN, ID, and JP branches from both Anycolor and Cover. Between 10 and 15 teams, which are still being finalized, will appear. Selen herself and TSB will also be playing. No “main” broadcasting will happen during this with three for-fun and three serious game modes. Selen also noted strong teams will be nerfed.

Twitter released an list of the most tweeted video games, influencers, events, and esports outfits of 2021, and Genshin Impact took top spot. It was followed by the battle royale Apex Legends and Ensemble Stars. Meanwhile, 2020 heavy hitters like Animal Crossing and Fortnite fell slightly in the rankings.

According to Twitter, there were an estimated 2.4 billion tweets about gaming in 2021. This is a 14% increase compared to 2020. Q4 2021 was reportedly the biggest quarter for video gaming conversations on the social media platform. Specifically, Twitter highlighted conversations around NFTs, new game releases, and in-person esports events as the main drivers.

In of video game titles, there were a few that stood out in 2021. Notably, Genshin Impact climbed from eighth place in 2020 to the top spot in 2021 on Twitter. Similarly, EA's battle royale title Apex Legends went from ninth place to the runner-up. Ensemble Stars went from sixth to third place. While games like Minecraft managed to climb back into the top ten, Disney: Twisted-Wonderland and Identity V did not make it in the list. Other titles like Final Fantasy, Fate/Grand Order, and Knives Out continued to maintain their popularity.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced some of the winners in the PlayStation Partner Awards 2021 Japan Asia. It revealed the winners of the Partner and Special Awards based on sales from October 2020 to September 2021. Capcom's Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition won a Special Award for being a Japanese/Asian-made game released around the PlayStation 5's launch with noteworthy statistics, such as player numbers.

Other than Devil May Cry 5, Sony also gave PlayStation Special Awards to Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin and Apex Legends. Sakuna won an award as a game made by Japanese or Asian indie developers with the best worldwide sales. Apex Legends received the distinction as a Western-made title with the highest sales in Japan and Asia.

Sony awarded Partner Awards to games developed by Japanese and Asian companies with outstanding global sales and metrics. A total of five games received the awards in 2021:

In 2020, Sony gave a Special Award to Death Stranding for being a Japanese/Asian game developed together with SIE with the highest worldwide sales of the period. The free-to-play and online games Apex Legends, Gundam: Battle Operation 2, and Final Fantasy XIV have now won the same awards for two years in a row.

Sony will hold another award presentation on December 3, 2021, and reveal the Grand Award winners. This award goes to the three games made by Japanese and Asian companies with the highest sales from October 2020 to September 2021.

We all love the Nintendo Switch. Well, enough of us do that "port begging" is a thing. Turns out that despite a rough start, EA loves the Switch too. During the EA Play Live 2020 presentation, the publisher announced that a total of seven games will be launching for Nintendo's plucky platform. That's seven games before the end of the year. As of this writing, we know of two for sure so far.

We already knew that one of those seven is Burnout Paradise Remastered, which comes out on June 19. The next game, which was announced early on in the stream, is Apex Legends. Respawn Entertainment's red-hot battle royale shooter will be launching for the Nintendo Switch this fall, and it will include cross-play. Fans of battle royale games that also hate taking fall damage can rejoice, as a Apex Legends Switch version was confirmed during the EA Play 2020 presentation. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment also promised a Steam release for the PC edition. Previously, the game was exclusive to EA's Origin storefront on PC. Finally, cross-platform play ("cross-play") is also being added to the game, allowing PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch players to all match up and play together.

All of these changes are scheduled for a Fall 2020 release, but those hankering for something sooner won't have to wait long, as the game's fifth season of content is ongoing. A new collection event, "Lost Treasures" is set to go live on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The new event adds cosmetic items, a game mode that uses mobile respawn beacons and focuses the weapon selection to sniper rifles and shotguns.

Apex Legends launched in 2019, quickly gathering momentum and briefly eclipsing even Fortnite as one of the most-played games in the world. Though that momentum has cooled off since then, it remains a popular title, and is free to and play right now.

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella announced that his company’s hit free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends has reached the 50 million players milestone in its first month.

You pinged, you slid, you got in fights with care packages. Apex Legends just hit 50 million players – check out all the amazing things that have happened in the Apex Arena, and thank you for being part of the fun!

The 50 million players accomplished the following during Apex Legends’ first month:

• 158 million finishers used
• 1.23 billion ultimates activated
• 31 billion pings placed
• 170 million respawns

After the game’s launch on February 4, 2019, it quickly reached the 2.5 million players milestone after one day, then 10 million players by its third day, and 25 million within its first week. While Fortnite is still the top battle royale game as far as player count goes with over 200 million ed players as of November 2018, it took over four months for it to reach the 50 million players mark, a goal that was achieved by Apex Legends in one month.

Apex Legends is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
