Season 2 of Too Many Losing Heroines has been announced, with more information to come later. The first season ended in 2024.

To commemorate the second season, the Too Many Losing Heroines X (formerly Twitter) ed a GIF of heroine Anna, holding two Pocky sticks in her mouth. The announcement that a second season has been greenlit appears under her. As of the time of writing, this post accumulated over 24,000 retweets and 74,000 likes on the platform.

Too Many Losing Heroines, or Makeine, is a light novel series that focuses on a high school boy and the “loser heroines” around him. This is the term for girls who like someone already in a relationship or don’t have any interest in them. The light novel series started in 2021, and is still ongoing. Meanwhile, a manga adaptation of the series started in 2022. It is also ongoing. When the first season ended, the finale was an original episode that Takibi Amamori, the author of the light novel series, wrote. The second season will likely continue with the story from before this episode.

Too Many Losing Heroines season 2 is in production, with more information on it to appear later. Seven Seas licensed both the original light novel and the manga adaptation, and you can watch the first season on streaming services like Crunchyroll.

Persona 3 The Movie Anime

Persona 3 Reload finally brought one of my favorite JRPGs of all time to modern audiences in a way that matches the visuals and quality-of-life features of games coming out today. Now that this wish of mine is finally granted, it is time to look ahead to the future. For instance, how it is currently nigh-impossible to legally watch the excellent Persona 3 anime movies.

Persona 3 The Movie was the first in this quartet of films, coming out in Japan on November 23, 2013. Each movie came out about a year after one another, with the final one — Winter of Rebirth — dropping in 2016. What may be surprising about this situation is how relatively new (so to speak) these movies are.

Image via Aniplex

After all, the final movie in the series came out not even 10 years ago at this time. This is quite intriguing since the original Persona 3 came out in 2006. In fact, these movies are even newer than the Persona 4 anime series. It came out in 2011 and even its Golden version came out in 2014.

That said, there is a stark difference between the Persona 3 anime movies and the anime adaptations of both Persona 4 and 5. Both of the latter series are available to stream right now legally on services like Crunchyroll. Despite the Persona 3 movies being newer than the Persona 4 anime, it isn’t available to stream anywhere.

In fact, if you would like to watch these movies legally, you would have to buy the physical copies of the films or a digital version. And, to be frank, good luck with that. Not only are the physical copies hard to find, but they are quite expensive these days. Furthermore, there seems to be a digital version you can get of these films, but it is only available on Amazon Prime as of right now.

Buying digital copies isn’t the most sure-fire solution, especially when it’s only on one platform, and things could change anytime. In addition, it would cost $60 to get all four movies this way. There is a rental option, but then you only have a limited set of time to watch them. It would be much better if you could stream these movies on a service like Netflix or Crunchyroll. This was possible in the past, and is how I watched them, but no longer is the case.

Image via Aniplex

It truly is a shame that the Persona 3 anime movies are unavailable to stream because more fans of the series deserve to see them. I get if you are jaded by the anime adaptations of these masterpiece JRPGs since both Persona 4 and 5’s anime series are a bit lackluster. However, that isn’t the case at all with their Persona 3 counterpart.

For one, the visuals of these movies are incredible. These are movies for a reason, rather than a TV series, and it shows in the quality and budget of the series. Studio A-1 Pictures —that worked on movies 2-4 — is hit-or-miss sometimes when it comes to its animation quality, but these movies are some of the best work the studio has ever done. It captures the dark and grim aesthetics of the original JRPG so well.

In addition, having the movies divided up into four movies gives just enough time to do most of the story justice. Sure, you don’t get some of the side stories here. That said, thankfully, most of the main plot points happen and are done well. In addition, you get just enough time with certain characters to experience their full arc before tragic events happen.

Plus, bringing back the Persona 3 anime movies would allow a service like Crunchyroll to finally dub them. It is a shame there is no official dub for them at this time. With the recent release of the original game’s remake, Persona 3 Reload, in 2024, now feels like the perfect time for these to return. Here’s hoping the Persona 3 anime movies come back soon. After all, fans of the series and this game, in particular, are missing out otherwise.

Persona 3 Reload is available right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

fate/strange fake anime

The first episode of the Fate/strange Fake anime (with Japanese dub) will air on December 31, 2024 during the special New Year’s television special for the Fate series. There is also a trailer for the first episode. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Here is the newest trailer for Fate/strange Fake:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1HBflk_E1M

All of the content will appear in the first episode. It shows off the various Servants and Masters participating in the Snowfield Holy Grail War. Characters like Flat and Caster appear, as well as familiar faces such as Gilgamesh and Enkidu. There is also a brief shot of Ayaka and Saber’s first meeting, which parallels the signature scene of Saber greeting Shirou for the first time.

Aniplex announced in 2023 that it was producing a TV series based on Fate/strange Fake. This news came after the “Whispers of Dawn” OVA. The TV series will cover a bit of what the OVA did, but with more detail, as well as show what happens afterwards.

As for Fate/strange Fake, it is a spin-off light novel series penned by Ryogo Narita. Narita is a light novelist and manga writer whose original works include Durarara!! and Baccano!. The story of Fate/strange Fake follows a faulty Holy Grail War in Nevada. As an unsuccessful copy of the Holy Grail War in Fuyuki, the one in Nevada has some bizarre aspects to it, such as a missing Saber class and a blurred definition of what a hero is.

The anime adaptation of Fate/strange Fake will premiere at the end of 2024. Technically speaking, for a limited time, you can watch the English dub of the first episode on Crunchyroll's YouTube channel.

Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream Cross Platform Compatibility Confirmed

Sword Art Online is certainly a guilty pleasure of mine. The first half of the original season and Season 3 Alicization have a special place in my heart as some of my favorite seasons of anime of all time. But all things must come to an end at some point. It is high time for the final new season of Sword Art Online and 2025 feels like its last shot.

For the record, the last season of proper SAO was Season 4 War of Underworld that concluded in 2020. That was more than four years ago at the time of writing. That may not sound like a ton, but it is quite a lot considering the biggest gaps before now between seasons was between Season 2 and 3. That was also four years.

If you redeem a new Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream code, you can get an outfit inspired by SAO theme song singer ReoNa.

The problem, though, is we have no release date or formal announcement of an season. Waiting five years for a new season is some Attack on Titan-level patience and it shouldn’t happen. 2025 certainly feels like the last time Sword Art Online will feel relevant enough to garner a new season and it just needs to happen.

To make matters worse, as of this year, we are now in the official SAO timeline. In the anime lore, the original Aincrad game came to an end in 2024, which we are now in. It has also been a whopping 12 years since the first season dropped. There is no reason to keep fans waiting this long, especially considering how close to the end it is.

Sure, the light novel series is still going in the midst of the final arc known as Unital Ring, but that equally needs to wrap up soon. It is in its seventh book thus far, which is coming close to matching the full length of the Alicization arc. Given how weak Season 4 and the conclusion of Alicization was, it is only more frustrating SAO isn’t returning yet.

Then there is the matter of other similar anime. Attack on Titan started after Sword Art Online. And even with the infamous wait for that series, it still managed to conclude long before Season 5 of SAO. The same goes for Tokyo Ghoul and its four-season adaptation of two different manga series. But, to be fair, those are series that started around the same era as SAO.

Sword Art Online
Image via A-1 Pictures

What about series that came long after Sword Art Online’s beginning? Equally notable and popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, Black Clover, Boruto, Oshi no Ko, and even My Hero Academia are done right now, at least in manga form. All of these series started after SAO and several of them even have many more anime episodes as well. Heck, even One Piece is in the final stretch and could finish first.

With the prevalence of virtual reality and AR in culture today, there is no better time to bring back Sword Art Online. Any longer, though, and it has the chance to come back with a whimper. To help, Gun Gale Online Season 2 is happening right now in the Fall 2024 anime season. It is doing just as great as the first season and is filling a nice gap right now.

But Gun Gale Online Season 2 should only be the start of the return of SAO. It feels like a neat appetizer for the main event next year. Plus, it would help the other aspects of the franchise, such as video games. The games have been in a slump for a few entries now and being able to fully adapt the Unital Ring arc alongside the anime would be an excellent opportunity.

It is high time for Sword Art Online to come back with a new and, hopefully final, season in 2025. Next year feels like the final opportunity for this series to stay relevant and popular. It already feels almost too late if it wasn’t for the ongoing Gun Gale Online Season 2. If Aniplex and A-1 Pictures waits past 2025, it may not even be worth going back to Kirito, Asuna, Alice, and the gang for the community and company alike. The return needs to be announced now.

Sword Art Online is available to stream right now on Crunchyroll.

The last puppet show episode for Nier Automata Ver1.1a has appeared on X (formerly Twitter), depicting a happy ending. The short clip shows 2B handing 9S a bouquet of flowers and then everyone cheers.

Here is the clip on the final puppet show episode for Nier Automata Ver1.1a via its creator's X:

Aoki Yuka (moge) was the one in charge of the C parts in Nier Automata Ver1.1a. These little shorts appear at the end of the episode, showing puppet versions of the characters. Considering how the actual episodes are rather dramatic and tragic, they can be fun and cute palate cleansers. The contrast is also something that is in Yoko Taro’s works ever since the early days of Drakengard, which can be very humorous in tone despite how dark the narrative can get.

Nier Automata Ver1.1a is the anime adaptation of Nier Automata. Though it includes elements that weren’t in the game proper, it mostly follows along the plot. It started airing in January 2023 and recently had its final episode on September 27, 2024, with a total of 24 episodes.

Nier Automata Ver1.1a is available on streaming services like Crunchyroll. As for the game, you can play it on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

nier automata ver1.1a hidden messages

A Japanese Twitter deciphered the hidden messages in each episode of NieR Automata anime and discovered that the last episode teases more to come for 2B and 9S. The message spoils what happens to them at the end of the show though, so if you haven't finished it or the game yet, you should be aware of that. [Thanks, moshii3456!]

During the last episode of the show, the message began with an emergency report regarding 2B and 9S. It then stated that the two of them surviving the final battle will lead to some great calamity or disaster. The message ended with a warning for the council, asking it to observe the pair with great care. As the show ended on September 27, 2024, it may be a sign that there’s a sequel or something else in the works. This will either be something original to the anime (as the anime ended as the game did), or it might adapt the storyline from the concert.

Ever since the NieR Automata anime adaptation started airing, people have known about the secret messages, but it wasn't known that they relate to 2B and 9S. They appeared in the eye catch animations each episode. In NieR Automata Ver1.1a, there are lines of code that appear which, when deciphered using a hexadecimal converter, turn into Japanese text.

The messages started with contemplation about an android’s existence, as well as observations on robotic lifeforms imitating humanity. As the episodes continued, they related more and more to the events at hand. For instance, it stated that the final mission of the YoRHA has begun and it’s forbidden to interfere with the events. It also noted that A2’s presence may be affecting how the story branches into different routes. Since robotic lifeforms operate in a network and humans are the ones that have a council in NieR Automata, these messages may be, on a meta level, for us as well.

NieR Automata is readily available on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. You can watch NieR Automata Ver1.1a on Crunchyroll.

aldnoah zero blu-ray

A-1 Pictures and Troyca have announced a new Blu-ray disc box for Aldnoah Zero. It’ll contain all 24 episodes of the anime, as well as the new Episode 24.5: Ame no Danshou - The Penultimate Truth -.

You can watch a short trailer for the Blu-ray disc box on the official X (formerly known as Twitter) for Aldnoah Zero. As a note, the trailer does contain pretty major spoilers for the entire series. So if you haven’t watched the show yet, then you should be mindful of that.

https://twitter.com/aldnoahzero/status/1835542153621303533

The trailer gives an overview of the whole show, with clips from both seasons. Aldnoah Zero aired from July 2014 to March 2015. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Rusty Rabbit, Fate/Zero) plotted the show. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, Xenoblade Chronicles X) composed the music and Kalafina (Yuki Kajiura’s vocal group) sang the opening.

As for the plot of the show, it takes place in an alternate universe in which the Apollo 17 mission discovered a Hypergate on the moon. This Hypergate allowed humans to teleport to Mars, facilitating colonization. On Mars, they discovered alien technology called Aldnoah, and so they decided to declare independence from Earth to form the Vers Empire. War erupts between the Vers Empire and Earth over Earth’s resources. Aldnoah Zero follows the perspectives of two protagonists—Inaho Kaizuka of Earth and Slaine Troyard of Mars—as they navigate the conflict from different sides, with the climax of both seasons being their showdowns with each other.

The Blu-ray disc box for Aldnoah Zero will come out on March 26, 2025. You can also watch Aldnoah Zero on Crunchyroll.

nier automata ver1.1a part 2

Part 2 of the NieR Automata Ver1.1a anime will start airing on Crunchyroll from July 5, 2024. This is the same starting date as Japan.

You can watch the trailer for it here. However, it’s the same as Promotion File 11, which Aniplex released earlier in 2024:

https://twitter.com/NieRA_anime_EN/status/1803095519952077050

A-1 Pictures first announced the second cour in late May 2024. The trailer teases some of the battles that the YoRHa androids will undergo, as well as shows part of the Red Girls’ more sinister true personality. As a reminder, LiSA will be singing “Black Box,” the opening of NieR Automata Ver1.1a part 2. In the past, LiSA contributed opening or ending songs for anime like Fate/Zero, and Demon Slayer. Though it was only for the Japanese dub, she also sang the theme song for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

NieR Automata Ver1.1a is an animated adaptation of the award-wining NieR Automata video game. However, rather than a straight adaptation, it features some characters from the stage play as well. The main voice actors have reprised their roles and like the game, it features music from MONACA.

The anime adaptation of NieR Automata Ver1.1a is readily available for streaming on Crunchyroll and part 2 will start airing from July 5, 2024.

blue exorcist shimane illuminati saga

Aniplex has ed the opening song and sequence for Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga. The opening song for this series is UVERworld’s “Eye’s Sentry.”

The single for the song will come out on March 6, 2024. It’ll be available as both a physical and a digital release. This is not the first time that UVERworld sang a song for Blue Exorcist. The band sang “Core Pride” and “One Drop Impact,” which were the first openings for the original series and the Kyoto Saga, respectively.

You can watch the opening of Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga here:

The opening shows the majority of the main cast, which comprises of the Okumura twins, Rin’s classmates, Shura, and Mephisto. It also hints at some of the events that’ll happen later in the arc, such as Izumo’s importance. However, it’s fairly vague, which makes it a safe opening to watch for those who have not read the manga or are caught up on the anime. This is the third anime series for Blue Exorcist, so here is a guide for those who need to watch the previous entries of the show.

Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga is available on Crunchyroll. The full version of “Eye’s Sentry” will come out on March 6, 2024.
