Sony talked a lot about PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility 2020. Now, we have another company stepping up with additional confirmations. Ubisoft’s Australian page has been updated with details about PlayStation 4 to PS5 upgrades. When it did, it also confirmed the PS5 backwards compatibility limitations and how it only applies to PS4 games. [Thanks, Resetera!]

To be specific, Ubisoft clarifies two points. It first noted that cross-play will be possible with the PS4 and PS5. (This is provided that people are playing the same game.) Then, it reminded people that PS1, PS2, and PS3 games won’t be ed.

As part of their next-gen upgrade process, PlayStation offer a number of features designed to help you move from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 4 players will be able to multiplayer games with PlayStation 5 players.

Backwards compatibility will be available for ed PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games.

The note about “ed PlayStation 4 titles” seems to reference the previous announcement from March 2020. That’s when Sony said PS5 backwards compatibility will the 100 most-played PS4 games.

The PlayStation 5 will be released in 2020. It is possible to for a Sony pre-order invitation now.
