Nintendo announced that the Japan regional version of the Nintendo eShop and the My Nintendo Store will stop accepting overseas payment methods, such as credit and debit cards issued outside of Japan or PayPal s created in countries other than Japan. The changes to the payment method options will go in effect on March 25, 2025.
The changes to the payment options for the Japan Nintendo eShop and the My Nintendo Store mean that the only ways to purchase software and goods from the respective storefronts will be via using credit or debit cards issued in Japan, a Japanese PayPal , as well as by purchasing Japanese prepaid Nintendo eShop gift cards to redeem on a Japanese Nintendo . Nintendo made this change in order to prevent fraudulent use of the eShop and My Nintendo Store services in Japan.
