Opening Pokémon TCG packs is always exciting. The tension of not knowing if you’ll get that rare Charizard or the exact card you need to complete the perfect deck. However, sometimes getting the cards you want is a challenge, especially with rare packs and scalpers swiping all the stock.
This is where BOXED.GG comes in. It offers you all the fun of opening card packs while dodging scalpers, avoiding bulk and allowing you to independent stores and collectors.
Headquartered in Seattle, BOXED is backed by investors such as Bitkraft, who have also invested in Discord and Epic Games. BOXED is run by an experienced team from Microsoft, Twitch, LucasArts, 2K and even NASA. All this expertise comes together for one goal: to empower collectors to find the cards they need.
Here’s how it works. BOXED offers a selection of digital card boxes for you to open. Choose the box you want, open it and receive a card. While some boxes for the Pokémon TCG align with real packs, such as the Prismatic Eeveelutions, there are also boxes built around themes you can’t find anywhere else. For instance, if you’re looking for a specific Charizard, you can pull from a box that only contains different Charizard variations. These packs increase your chances of tracking down exactly what you want.
The cards aren’t just digital though. Once you do have the cards you want, they will go into your inventory. Once you’re satisfied with the contents of your inventory, you can have the physical cards shipped to you. These cards are obtained by BOXED through local game stores and collectors and stored safely in a secure US-based shipping facility. There are currently more than 50k cards in storage waiting to be shipped out.
To ensure that your collection of Pikachu cards reaches you in the best condition, all cards that BOXED sell are Mint or Near Mint condition. When shipping, cards are always packaged in a double sleeve, stored in a top loader and shipped in a bubble mailer. Currently, BOXED ships across the US, along with Canada and the UK. More regions are in the works. Delivery can take 2-4 weeks to arrive.
BOXED offers a provably fair system when it comes to card drops. The drop rates for each card are clearly available, and all possible cards are displayed visually during a pull, with more common cards showing up more often. On top of this, each pull makes use of a cryptographic algorithm that ensures a true random selection.
Of course, this still doesn’t always ensure you’ll get the card you want. However, using BOXED makes it much easier to deal with these unwanted cards. Every card can be sold back for their gem price, so all those Energy cards you have way too many of can be put towards more boxes. Cards can also be traded through the Marketplace, where up to thirty unwanted cards can be exchanged for the exact card that you’re looking for.
BOXED is more than just a marketplace though, it’s also a community. The site has a chat built directly into it, or you can jump into the official Discord, so you can interact with more than 100k other collectors. Other community efforts include features such as Box Battles, where players can together to see who can get the best pulls from a selection of community-curated boxes. These boxes can be produced in The Forge and freely shared on the site. You can also curate a box you personally want to open, giving you even more options to track down the cards you need.
BOXED cares about keeping the community happy too. To avoid scalping, box prices are set purely by the rarity of the contents. If the contents become less rare, the price comes down. In addition, the leadership team have invested in a great deal of anti-bot measures and community moderation to tackle unwanted interactions such as scams and abuse.
While Pokémon is a big part of what BOXED has to offer, it’s also perfect for Magic the Gathering and the One Piece Card Game. Other trading cards are in the works too, with Lorcana currently in beta.
