Best Bravely Default Jobs

Every Bravely Default job can be a valid pick for characters, as your decisions when pairing up learned Commands and abilities with active roles really result in the best builds. And every character can be the strongest ally on your time with a little work. Not to mention that any one of them can fill any role. I would say each job can be great depending on party composition and goals. There are seven I’ve found can be quite helpful though, so let’s go over why I’d suggest considering them. Also, since the “meat” of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is identical to the original, you could use these suggestions with either the Switch 2 or 3DS release when trying to come up with ideas for best jobs for your needs.

Arcanist

This is for the folks who want a more traditional kind of Black Mage character in Bravely Default. Its Save BM MP makes Black magic spells cheaper, and Sacrifice and increase the power of your spells. It also has commands that damage anyone on the field suffering from status effects, like Exterminate for poisoned ones and Twilight for those asleep. Put it together with a Black Mage and you’re set.

It’s a good role for Ringabel or Agnes.

Dark Knight

As in Final Fantasy games, the Dark Knight in Bravely Default is a class that deals dark damage by tapping into a character’s own health. Dark Bane and Dark Nebula both do that, and See You in Hell flat out damages every enemy if the character is KO-ed. It’s fantastic for wiping out single enemies or groups of foes. I feel it works best with Pirate, but it can work with many other roles.

Any character can fill any role in Bravely Default, but some starting stats do sort of set up Edea and Tiz as the big physical DPS units or tanks, so Dark Knight might be the best job for one of them.

Performer

The Performer job in Bravely Default is one of the best er roles in the game. It can be a BP battery, allowing you to more readily use the Brave command on other characters in battle with One More for You. Many of its other buff skills raise everyone’s stats, such as Love Power for everyone’s physical attack and Little Devil for magic attack. Pair it with White Mage for healing skills or Time Mage for abilities like Haste, Slow, Reraise, and Meteor.

I like to make Ringabel my performer, because it is fun with his personality, but Agnes could fill this position too.

Pirate

I would consider the Pirate one of the best Bravely Default jobs due to how much damage it can deal or dealing damage while weakening defenses. It’s also good at buffing itself, potentially with high risk/high reward techniques that involve putting the character in danger. Mass Attack is good for pulling in plenty of people to attack with you, and Shell Split, Scale Strip, and Shin Smash debuff opponents’ stats while dealing damage. Combine it with some Knight or Dark Knight techniques, and you could bolster defenses or prepare to deal even more damage with HP sacrificing moves.

This role is a good fit for Edea or Tiz.

Spell Fencer

I recommend a Spell Fencer in Bravely Default if you are also willing to make that person a Ranger, as combining the two allows you to put together a person who is the best at targeting enemy weaknesses. The Spell Fencer relies on Sword Magic that attaches elemental affinities to weapons to exploit that weakness. Status effects can be added too! Add in Ranger, and you can go after specific types of opponents by using Beast Slayer on beasts or Aerial Slayer on birds.

Anyone could go with this build!

Spiritmancer

Spiritmancer is one of those ultimate er sorts of roles that comes up in Bravely Default that is best at ensuring the party survives, and its abilities are invaluable in the endgame for the protection they provide. Spirit Ward and Enigma can prevent elemental attacks from hurting people, and Fairy Ward can prevent status effects. It’s also built to pair with White Mage, due to Holy One sacrificing the ’s physical attack damage for basically a white magic boost. You could also use it with Salve Maker, but then you don’t get the White magic boosts.

Agnes or Ringabel could be good as one of these.

Vampire

While the name in Bravely Default is Vampire, I find the best comparison is the Final Fantasy Blue Mage job due to Genome Ability using monsters’ attacks. It can be a great damage dealer that also can buff and heal itself. Battle Thirst gets you one BP, Magic Thirst restores MP, and Blood Thirst restores HP. You can also set yourself up to survive being killed if you use Rise from the Dead in time. Pairing it with Red Mage skills or even Thief or Ninja attacks could be fun.

If you want an Agnes or Ringabel who doesn’t rely on magic or act as a er, Vampire can be fun for both of them.

Bravely Default is available on the 3DS and Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is available on the Switch 2.
