On February 27, 2021, Post Malone was featured in a virtual Pokemon concert in honor of Pokemon’s 25th anniversary. The concert ended with the message that “the P25 music celebration has just begun” before another message revealed that additional artists would be performing as part of the P25 Music Presents project. One of these artists is J Balvin, the Latin Grammy nominee known for the single “Ginza.”
With Katy Perry and Post Malone, but “many more” artists are expected to contribute according to the announcement. The official Pokemon website says that, in addition to these performers, “one more surprise superstar artist” will release a Pokemon-inspired song. Each song from these four artists will be accompanied by a music video.
The album will be released by Universal Music Group’s Capitol Records and will be comprised of 14 songs. Katy Perry, J Balvin, and Post Malone are currently Universal Music Group artists and the entire album will feature eight more artists from the label. One of the songs is a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s “I Only Wanna Be with You,” which Post Malone performed as part of the P25 Music virtual concert.
The digital album is due out at the end of 2021. There is no word, at the moment, as to whether or not there will be a physical release of the compilation.
