The next free Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will arrive on April 23, 2020, and it brings back so many familiar faces. After a datamining suggested Leif the sloth would return for Earth Day 2020 and Redd the fox would continue his 19-year run of selling us both real and counterfeit paintings, the day has arrived. Nintendo has sent out a patch and, after you apply the Animal Crossing: New Horizons update, you’ll start seeing Leif and Redd at your town and being able to partake in new events.
Leif is a character who has been a part of Animal Crossing since the Nintendo 3DS game Animal Crossing: New Leaf. There, he ran a gardening store where you could buy bushes, flowers, and trees. Like Kicks the skunk, he’ll show up in your town square in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with plants. This means that bushes will now be available to decorate your islands.
As for “Jolly” Redd, formerly known as “Crazy” Redd, he will show up with a boat filled with pieces of art and furniture. He’s been a fixture since Doubutsu no Mori on the Nintendo 64. As usual, he might have real or counterfeit art. Buying a piece will let you update your museum, as giving a real piece of art will result in Blathers adding a new wing dedicated to paintings and statues. Redd will also have some furniture with color schemes you might normally not see.
This Animal Crossing: New Horizons update also adds a few more holidays to the game. Here’s the full list of which events will be coming up and what they will involve.
- Animal Crossing Nature Day: Between April 23-May 4, 2020, Nook Miles challenges involving flowers and trees will appear more frequently.
- Animal Crossing May Day Tour: Between May 1-7, 2020, everyone gets a May Day Ticket that people can use to have Orville and Wilbur fly them to an island with a special NPC.
- Animal Crossing National Museum Day: Between May 18-31, 2020, a Stamp Rally involving Blather’s museum will give you a chance to earn a reward for visiting exhibits.
- Animal Crossing Wedding Season: Between June 1-30, 2020, the Animal Crossing: New Leaf Re-Tail alpacas Cyrus and Reese will be at Harv’s Island and you can take wedding anniversary photos for the couple to get special wedding-themed items.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch.
