Compile Heart’s Neptune may not win the strangest game of the week award. Sunsoft is in the running with a revival of Ikki, an arcade game (pictured) where a sickle slinging farmer fights ninjas.
That was the plot of the original game. Ikki Online doesn’t seem that much different except you don’t have to be a farmer. You can the ranks of the oppressive government who has ninjas in online battles. According to this week’s issue of Famitsu, Ikki Online s up to twelve players with online lobbies. Players can talk to each other with icon chat.
Sunsoft designed Ikki Online with two graphic styles: classic and gorgeous. The latter has updated 3D models while classic uses retro graphics.
Since Ikki Online is a PlayStation Network title and Sunsoft has a US branch again, there’s a chance this could see a Stateside release.
