Nintendo, Arad Productions, and Sony Pictures started working on a The Legend of Zelda live-action movie years ago, but now we’ve learned it’s going to be slightly delayed. The film first had a March 26, 2027 release date. Shigeru Miyamoto took to the official Japanese social media to confirm the new debut is set for May 7, 2027. This will apply worldwide to theaters in every region.
As is common for these sort of delays, Miyamoto cited quality concerns as the reason for The Legend of Zelda live-action movie being delayed. He specifically suggested the move is to ensure an optimal performance. Here’s the full statement:
We have no idea what this movie will look like yet. No cast are confirmed. Wes Ball ended up confirmed as director back in 2023. Both Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto are acting as producers.
This will be the third Nintendo movie in recent years. The Super Mario Bros Movie came out in April 2023. A sequel to that is set to arrive on April 3, 2026.
The Legend of Zelda live-action film will show up in movie theaters on May 7, 2027, now that it’s been delayed out of March 2027.
